Multilanguage DVDs - diferent tracks to be picked

Hi.
I author DVDs in 10 languages and know there's an option to make the same menu in diferent languages. But in my case, the user chooses the language in the begining and I use scripts to link to each language. No big deal.
But I wanna try the DVDSP multilanguage support, but using it the DVD automaticaly uses the language from my region. How can I use it after the user pick the language he wants?
Thanks,
Luiz

Luiz, Drew, I just want to make it clear that I wasn't advocating one method over the other (forced navigation by scripts vs "official" SPRM). I was just pointing out how each works, and the fact that scripts are not needed for the later, since DVD SP takes care of that.
Adolfo, just to make sure (was not sure if it came across wrong somehow), I was in fact was agreeing that the using the "old fashioned" method of letting people set up language selections and other things via menus is something they are used to doing and there needs to be flexibility for people to make decisions for all of the reasons you pointed out earlier.
To the extent that it came across as something else ( "old fashioned" being derisive as I used it) I was not my intent by any stretch. Was not sure if you took it that way or not, but just wanted to make sure you did not

You would use a 3rd party application like Audio Hijack to do that, then import into GB:

    Hello Flemcat,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are missing content from iTunes library. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • DVD main track won't play on standalone DVD players

    Hi!
I have a problem and I was wondering if anybody could help me here.
So, i got a DVD which I had to reauthor so I demuxed the disc with bbdemux and got an m2v and an audio file. I could import both files to DVDSP without using compressor. Than I added a first play track which is 20seconds long and after it goes to the menu. The menu has a main play button and a button to the track selection menu. I added the demuxed files to a second track, created the chapters, linked all the buttons, defined everything about the dvd. Then I built it and then burned it. It was all working in DVD Player and VLC, then I tried in my standalone DVD player and everything worked just like I wanted until I pushed the play button in the menu and it kind of blocked, it showed me the first frame of the chapter and it stopped. Nothing happened but the timer on the DVD player was counting. I tought I might have f*d up the bitrates, so I lowered them, no difference. Then I deleted the first track, left only the menu 'cause I tought it was "confusing" him. No, then I deleted all the menus and burned the disc only with the main track but no luck... I know it has to do something with the track files but what??? I have a JVC DVD player and it always played every dvd 'till now... I don't know what's the problem... Please help! So, it kind of freezes on the start of every chapter.

so I demuxed the disc with bbdemux
You can try MPEG Streamclip to extract the original encoded files from the DVD. Probably the other demuxer did something to the original tracks.
    Hope that helps !

  • Leopard DVD Vista Tracks not showing up on iTunes Music Library.

Yet again, another obstacle in what I thought would have otherwise been the simple task of converting iTunes purchases to audio CD.
My MacBook is refusing to do ANYTHING with CD-Rs, so I am trying to drop some purchases from a DVD back-up burned on my Mac a few days ago, onto a VISTA platform.
I just dropped an album onto the relevant iTunes folder in this VISTA computer, and I was about to try and burn to audio, only it is not showing up in iTunes > Music!
The other option I looked into a few months back was to simply drop the tracks on this VISTA computer by simply plugging my iPod into a USB port, only it wont allow me to do this unless I reformat my iPod with windows firmware!
    This is absolutely ridiculous!
What is going on here, why is this simple task turning into a nightmare?

I solved this. I simple had to select the tracks in windows explorer and press <enter> and they then showed up in iTunes Musis.

  • Importing a DVD sound track

Is there a way to import a sound track from a DVD into itunes then copy it to an ipod?

Audio Hijack will work, but it is a real-time process and records all sounds, including system sounds, when recording.
Instead of recording, you can "rip" the audio only from a DVD and convert it to MP3.
It is not a quick process, but it certainly can be done. I have followed this process for several concert DVDs that I own and I am quite happy with the results. Best of all, it can all be done with free software, but there is one small program to buy to give it a more professional touch and amke it much easier on the ears.
First, download OSEx. This will allow you to extract only the audio files from a DVD.
To demux/extract only the audio with OSEx, splitting the audio in one file per chapter (usually equivalent to a song for music videos):
    - After starting OSex and inserting your music video DVD, make sure the correct title is selected by clicking on the "TI" button.
    - Click on the "VID" button an deselect the video stream(s).
    - Click on the "Aud" button and select the appropriate audio stream (usually 2 channel AC3).
    - Click on the "Fmt" button and select "Elem. streams."
    - Click on the "Seg" button and select "Chapter" to split the audio by track in separate files.
    - Click "Begin" to start audio axtraction.
If you have a few songs that span several DVD tracks and have no break in them, you can encode them as one audio track by selecting those tracks together and encoding them as a single selection.
Then, download mAC3dec. This is a program that will convert the resulting AC3 files from OSEx into MP3s. I use the highest bitrate - 320 - so that my audio is as close to the source as possible.
Then - the finishing touch - but one that costs $10.95. It is well worth it. Download MP3 Trimmer. This sweet little program allows you to trim the beginning and ends of files off and even apply a fade in and out without re-encoding the file and eliminating the resulting loss of sound quality. This means that you can cut the applause out of the beginnings and endings of the tracks, and since you can fade in and out, you lessen the "shock" of the breaks in the tracks that can be so annoying.
All in all, it sounds harder than it actually is, but it is well worth it for a whopping $10.95 for all three programs.
BTW, I am not connected with these companies at all and receive no compensation of any kind. It is just a process that I did a lot of research on and came up with these three programs and the steps to create a nice, professional sounding CD from concert DVDs.

  • DVD - audio track volume too low; can adjust??

I've got a commercial movie DVD and when I play it back using the default Apple DVD player, I notice that at any given time, the background music audio track is very loud, while the dialog is extremely quiet. Before I decide that it's a bad DVD and needs to be returned, I wonder if I'm missing some setting (Dolby or whatever): is there any way to bring up the volume of specific individual tracks from a DVD?
    Mike

In DVD player preferences, Disc Setup, uncheck the box "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression".
That may help. If it's already unchecked there's nothing more you can do.

  • Can You Play Alternate DVD Audio Tracks on Your Mac?

Some commercial releases have alternate audio tracks, such as "Jaws" which in one recent edition features the ability to choose the original theatrical mono track.
Is there any way of choosing this when DVD Player opens on your Mac?
    Thanks
    Tom

If you click and hold down the mouse button on the Speaker Icon in the DVD Player controls, a drop down menu will appear to let you select the Audio Menu:
and then make your choice there, is that what you wanted to do?

  • DVD to iPod - selecting DVD language track?

I just successfully (sort of) got my first DVD ripped onto my iPod, using DVD Decrypter and Videora. The video looks great, BUT, the dialog is in spanish?!?! I didn't even know this DVD had a spanish language track.
The VOB files all play in english but after I run them throug Videora the resulting MP4 is in spanish.
Anyone know of a way to select which audio track Videora uses?
    Regards,
    Wes

The best thing to do, in your setup, is to get rid of all the extra audio streams, subtitles, etc during the DVD Decrypter process.
In DVD Decrypter, click on the "Stream processing" tab and then deselect everything except for the very first Video and First Audio channels listed. That will leave you just the English audio and NTSC video. (Note, that's if you have a US NTSC DVD).
All the various channels are labeled in the Stream processing window, so you can choose what you want. If you want the Spanish audio - just get rid of the English.
You ideally want to have just the one video and one audio when you put it through Videora

  • Bug when i open a new track it is picking up other tracks

when I open a new audio track (input on Instrument 1 for electric guitar), when i go to record I hear other tracks...like a shaker, etc.  Also, Even though I have tracks that have only a bar or two region showing I am hearing them as if they are on loop the entire song.

    Sorry...first time posting.
I am using a MacBook Air OSX 18.8.4, 2 GHz Intel Core i7.
I am running Logic Pro 9.1.8.
My interface is a Duet 2.
I have been having several strange things lately while recording that have never happened in the 6 months I have been using Logic.
One of the main recurring issues is this.  I may have a song with 15 tracks.  I will SOLO a track but, instead of hearing only that track I will hear a couple of other random tracks as well.
Concurrently, I will have tracks that have obviously viable audio regions in them (you can look at the waveforms), but when you solo there will be no audio or you will hear another track.
Today the issue I posted about was this.  After transferring all the audio tracks from a former project to a newly opened project due to the issues above, I  added a new instrurment track.  As soon as I hit RECORD to play, I hear what sounds like a midi-triggered, ghosted audio as if it were from my drum track.  I can hear the guitar I am playing but the other sound is there as well.  It is not only audible during recording but during playback also.
I hope it is user error as you suggest, but it is strange this has all started happening (for the first time) in the last couple of days.
    Thanks for any help.

  • DVD Menu track killing quality

I am sure the topic of menus have come up a dozen times in this forum but having searched I could find quite what I was looking for.
OK, I have encoded several movies in compressor mpeg with a vbr of 6 - 8.5. The mpegs are to my liking and once played in a video track, they are how I want them to look. However, once one of the pegs are played in a menu track the quality takes a nose dive.
I have played the same mpeg that I want for my menu in a video track and everything looks just fine. Once it is in a menu track the artifacting is just not acceptable for my project. I have set the preferences for menus to be both hardware and software rendered.
If anyone else has had this experience please advise or if I am missing something please let me know cuz it is killing out team.

You are getting artifacts because you are using mpegs in your drop zones. DVDSP is re-encoding these mpegs as it composites and renders the new menu backgrounds, and changing the GOP structure in the process, so not only are you getting compounded mpeg artifacts, but there is a great likelihood that B and P frames from the original mpeg are being used as new I frames in the menu mpeg.
THis can be avoided by compositing the menu in Motion from native Quicktimes (best quality) doing the same in FCP (almost as good) or bringing native non-mpeg quicktime clips into DVDSP for use as your button/dropzone assets.
    Hope this helps -

  • DVD-A tracks to iTunes...

    hi guys
some friends gave me a couple of DVD-A & i would like to extract the audio to get into my iTunes library...i've looked around for suitable software but couldn't really find anything. could anyone point me in the right direction ? many thanks
    Nuno

If these disks are copy-protected, as many DVD Audio disks are, then breaking the copy protection is illegal here in the US so we are not allowed to discuss such matters here even though it may be perfectly legal in Portugal. Sorry, but you'll have to look elsewhere for assistance beyond this option: you can use a utility such as Audio Hijack or Wiretap to capture the output of DVD Player and save the captured audio in a format that iTunes can import. Since that method doesn't break the copy protection, it's not illegal.
    Regards.

  • DVD sound track

I am burning DVDs that need no sound.
Can you Burn a disk that skips that part of the encoding?
Just want to speed up the encoding.

Well... that would be a no... and yes.
If there's no audio already in your sequence, then there is nothing for iDVD to encode. If you have audio in your sequence, then there is no way to break it out in iDVD short of going back to your editor (iMovie, FCE, etc) and deleting the audio.
However, for what it's worth, I don't think you will see huge time improvements in the compression. iDVD uses uncompressed audio and I should imagine that the math is near the same with or without.

  • Showing diferent track info on iPad

    Hi,
Aare there a way of changing the order or the content of how the music files are shown in the "ipod" music program. like in regular iTunes on a computer you can change between showing; Artist, Track title, Tempo etc. is this possible to do on an ipad

Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Make a backup of the iPad first, so he can restore HIS iPad to the backup that still has his content/settings on it. To make a backup, Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Back Up Now.
