Multilayer Photoshop file not sequence in FCP

FCP has taken up importing a multilayered Photoshop file as flat picture clip, not as a multitrack sequence (it used to do this : >). How do it get back to importing multilayered Photoshop files as a multitrack sequences? I am using FCP 5.4.1
Thanks!

Sorry, one more stupid question:
When you open this clip, do all the layers appear as if they have been flattened in PS, or is it just one layer of the stack?
Now a not so stupid question:
Can you post a link to the PSD file so I could download and try it on my system?
Many strange behaviors in FCP can be remedied by trashing you FCP preferences. My next suggestion would be to do that and then restart the application and see if you have the same behavior.
Hope this helps!

  • Incorrectly positioned layers when importing multilayer Photoshop file.

Every time I try to import a multilayer Photoshop CS3 file into Motion 3, the layer positions are incorrect. The file I am trying to import has seven layers and is in RGB mode. I uploaded a screen shot of what the file looks like in photoshop, versus what it looks like in Motion. Notice the spaces between the layers where there are non in photoshop. Please take a look at the screenshot and tell me what you think. Thanks!

Do you have any layer styles applied, or smart objects? Everything needs to be rasterized.

  • Photoshop file not visible when opened.

    Hello,
I have a somewhat strange issue with opening a .psd file.
The file consists of 3 layers, some created in illustrator and then painted in photoshop. The file opens and displays absolutely perfectly on my mac, however, when I send it to the clien they have reported back that when they open the file themselves, all they see is a blank image. Ive tried resaving and resending the file, but the problem still persists.
Any help would be mssively appriciated as I'm on a tight deadline!
    Thanks again!
    Tom.

I've managed to sort out the visibility issue, but now they are reporting another!
The image I'm sending has been exported at 300dpi in A3 size. When I check the dimensions they are exactly what I see and the quality is perfect.
When they are opening it their end, they say that image is 72dpi and all layers have been flattened.
As the file is to be printed on clothing it obviously needs to be at a high dpi. I can't for the life of me figure out how the dpi they are seeing and the dpi I'm seeing are different?
The image was originally hand drawn, scanned into manga studio, inked, and then exported as a photoshop file. I've since live traced the image and turned it into a vector, placed it into photoshop and then added a gradient. There should surely be no issues right?
    Thanks for your help!
    Tom.

  • Photoshop Files Not Importing as Sequences

I don't understand why some .psd files import into FCP as layered sequences while others are graphic clips. I'm saving them in PS CS5 with layers enabled.
    Thoughts? Thanks.

    Hi -
Check if your problem files are set to Image Mode RGB and 8 Bits/ Channel. That's what you want.

  • .mov files not exporting from FCP

    Hi.
I was working from the client's computer in FCP 5.0.
I encoded a 10min video via compressor for a client. It took 2hrs to compress which was the first sign that something was wrong. Once brought into DVDSP, I noticed that the .mov file of the opening & closing animation was not there - just black w/ audio.
Any ideas? I have to redo the clients DVD on Monday & I'm hoping I'll know how to fix this problem by then.
    Thanks in advance!
    Heather

    Heather:
    It took 2hrs to compress
I dpoesn't mean too much with no other info from yuor project.
    What format is your sequence?
    How long in minutes?
What do you mean with exporting to a mov file? You need to encode your movie to MPEG2 video and AC3 audio to use in DVDSP, or export your sequence as a Quicktime Movie, same settings, and use that as source and let DVDSP encode it.
Come back with more info !!
    Hope that helps !

  • How do I make Flash use the original Photoshop file, not a .png one?

Hi, this might be kind of a basic question/problem but I can't seem get Google to help me. Since I've recently started out with Flash, I guess I just missed some newbie thing out, still very greatful for help though, since this'll soon be causing a brain hemorrage...
    Ok, here goes:
I'd like to draw key frames in Flash, just simple drawings/skelettons using the pen tool, basically to create the movement itself. After that, I want to export the frames that I drew as images to Photoshop in order to apply texture and colour, and then put them back into Flash again, without tampering with the Flash doc I've already created, since the animation is already done. I want the file(s) that I'm working with to remain the same files throughout the process, from Flash to Photoshop and back to Flash again, like the way InDesign works. Is this even possible?
If this isn't possible at all, I guess the alternative is to draw in Photoshop and then import the drawings into Flash, put them in order and then make any eventual changes after you've created the animation in Flash, this is less smooth though still possible. But here emerges (sort of) the same problem:
When I import images from Photoshop, create animation out of them, and then realize I have to make some changes in the original PS pic file I head back to PS to correct it. But it just doesn't work the way I want it to... If I modify the pic file in PS, then use the "update" alternative in Flash Library, Flash just tells me that the file can't be found, and does not update the image. If I choose the "edit in PS"-alternative from right clicking on a symbol that is in the library, the file opens as a .png file in PS, not as my original file! It seems to me that Flash is creating its own library, not using the existing document. Is there anyway to go around this? How do I make Flash use my PS file which allows me to change it as much as I want (as with InDesign)?
This is driving me crazy, what I'm working on is supposed to be full HD, I can't use a freaking .png file... Gah!
    Very many Thanks in advance!
(If anyone has any suggestion for alternative software, that's also very welcome!)

If you start the artwork in Flash, you are starting with a vector drawing. If you export this art as a .png so that you can edit it in Photoshop, you will be translating the artwork to a bitmap image at a specific resolution. When you edit this .png in Photoshop, you can save it, as a .png, and then import that .png into Flash.
After you import the .png, place it on the stage in a new layer. Position the new artwork over the old artwork. Then throw away the original artwork. Now, when you want to edit the artwork, go to the original file in the movie's Library and select Edit with Photoshop. When you save the file in Photoshop, the updated file will appear in the Flash movie.
If you have Illustrator, you can export your original artwork as an Illustrator file. Then you can open this file in Illustrator, edit it, and save it. Then, as above, import the .ai file into Flash and toss out the original. Now you can edit the original file through the Library in your Flash movie.
Alternately, you could start by creating the artwork in either Photoshop or Illustrator. Then import that art into Flash. Now you have a link to the editor for either file in your Library. This may simplify things.
Working with Photoshop and/or .png files will give you a larger finished file than working with Illustrator files. In either case the finished resolution of the Flash movie will be the computer's screen resolution, 72 ppi.

  • Adobe Photoshop files not Opening in LR

In 2002 I saved a bunch of photos in the Adobe Photoshop format rather than TIFF or JPEG.   I can't seem to recognize these photos with LR4.    However, I can launch the photos with CS5 without a problem.    I want LR to recognize these photos because I am now using LR to organize all of my photos.    Any thoughts.

hmmmm.    I am not sure of the difference.   I think I was using PS 3 or 4 back then and when I saved the files (imported from a Polaroid slide scanner) I used the PS save option format (Photoshop).    I don't see an extension on the files, but when I "GET INFORMATION" on my Mac it indicates the format is Adobe Photo shop.
I suppose I would open all of these photos in CS5 and resave in a format that would be recognized by LR, but that would be very painful because I have many hundreds.

  • .mov file not accepted by FCP

I'm trying to import a quicktime movie file into FCP, but I keep getting an error message:
File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.
Why don't they write these error codes so you actually know what the heck is going on?

Could be a couple of things, actually. Don't fall into the conversion trap that most editors do. If you have to convert something back and forth just to edit it, you're wasting all of your time.
First: make sure it's not some sort of permissions issue. Get info on the file, unlock it, and make sure read/write for ALL users is enabled, then don't lock it back. Try again.
Then, check the codec and all other info on the clip. Post that info. Check your Libraries/Quicktime against the info on your clip. Chances are, if you don't have FCP 6+ you don't have a lot of the HDV codecs installed. The "Apple HDV Component.component" fixes a LOT of this sort of thing.
Also- when you preview the clip in the Finder, do you get a picture? does it play? If not, you're going to need new codecs.
FCP is a PRO APP. It should be able to recognize and cut any piece of video out there. The trick is it's a plug-in architecture based on Quicktime. Quicktime is also a Plug-in architecture. If all the libraries to handle the video are in place, it doesn't matter which FCP you have, it just so happens that 6+ is the release written after a lot of the HDV codecs went live in cameras.
Hope this helps! I know not a lot of this information is public!!

  • Photoshop files not opening

When I save my pics after I've adjusted them on Photoshop, I'm unable to get prints made from any photoshop.  I've saved them as a jpeg, but that hasn't helped.  I know I can  print off from home but I want to solve this problem.

If I understand the issue, what you are saying is that you have Opened Images in Photoshop, adjusted them, and finally Saved them to JPEG. Then, you send those resulting JPEG Images to a printing service, and the files do not Open for that service. Is that correct?
You state that the files do not Open at the printing service. What software are they using?
What are the specs. that the printing service have requested?
How do your specs. for the Saved JPEG's differ from those specs.?
Did the printing service get any error messages in their software, when attempting to Open those JPEG's? What were they, if they did?
Which printing service are you attempting to use?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

Could be a problem with AT/FCP versions as Zeb notes but I can import .ipr files on my machine without issue. Do it often; current project, even as we speak.
You may have set in and out points in LT that don't include any characters. But without knowing anything about the fonts and effects you're using, kinda hard to speculate from where I'm sitting except to say it's probably going to turn out to be something very simple.

  • Motion Files: Not Recognized in FCP 5.0.4.

Seemingly out of the blue, my version of FCP 5.0.4. is not recognizing the Motion files that I've imported into a project.
(My G5 tower was recently into the shop for a new hard drive, and updates were done on all software. So theoretically, this shouldn't be an issue.)
Motion is running fine on it's own. The problem appears to lie with Final Cut Pro.
Any suggestions for fixing the problem?
    Thanks.
    FCP 5.0.4., Motion 2.0.1., Mac OS X 10.4.11.

Final Cut Studio installs lots of components at system level, many of them are in folders that are normally invisible to regular users and often don't have names that can be directly associated with FCS.
When the shop performed the Archive and Install, those components were left in the Previous System folder. The contents of Previous System are rendered inert by Archive and Install, so a lot of important files that FCS needs are no longer accessible.
Delete the FCS apps in your Applications folder, they are useless. Delete the entire Previous System folder. Reinstall FCS from the original disks and run Software Update to get your Pro apps to current versions.
Bill the shop for loss of earnings.

  • AVCHD Files not showing in FCP

Hi, I've an iMac and FCP, everything is completely up to date but the Log and Transfer
won't show my AVCHD Files, on an SDHC Card, recorded on a Panasonic HMC151.
My Mac Book, still on FCP 6.0.5 and running OS 10.4 sees them fine and will play them
    without problem.
I't's driving me mad, I bought iMac to ease pressure on the laptop, now I'm using
laptop to ingest, anyone find issues with 6.0.6.
    Any help please.

If you waited a while...like a min or two...they would show up too. L&T seems to want to search the entire network for possible locations, even if you tell it "look here only." I can't explain it, other than that is what I noticed. When I disable airport, or disconnect from the network, they show up right away.

  • Photoshop files not syncing to CC. No reason or help on why.

Below is an image of the error I get. My Internet connection is good. I'm signed in to CC. No idea why they won't sync. Any help?

    Scott,
Sync settings did not solve my issue. I'll copy comments I gave to another below. Thanks for the help.
    John,
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately none of those links help solve the problem. Phantom folder was the closest, so it got me thinking to restart the whole process.
BTW I'm on a Mac, OS X 10.10.1. The problem appears to be when I added the Creative Cloud Files folder into my dock from my sidebar. I then was dragging and dropping files straight into that folder on the dock. Apparently that's not good.
So I took them out of that folder and went to my browser. I then went to "My Assets" page and added the files from the browser. Worked like a charm. The files are in my CC files folder in my dock on my Mac as well and all appears fine. But I won't be adding files into that folder on my dock any time soon.
    Thanks again!

I did a search on my system and found the Photoshop has a fastcore plug-in.  Creative Cloud includes a subscription version of CS6 version 13.1.2.   I do not know if you installed that or not.  The cc un-install may have done something.  You may need to use Adobe Cleaner then Install The Perpetual CS6 version of Photoshop  CS6 version 13.0.6 Mac or Photoshop  CS6 version 13.0.1.3 PC and not the subscription CS6 extended version 13.1.2.  Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6   If you need to download the CS6 installer Download CS6 products.
