Multimedia Cluster / software distro for Solaris 9

Hello all!
I was wondering if there is any sort multimedia cluster available for Sun OS 5.9. A software distribution having some sort of multimedia applications for video, audio and stuff.... Otherwise one gets bored sometime on dry solaris. Had heard previously about Sun MediaCentre...What about it? Is it still available from SUN?? Are there any other third party clusters available ???

There's plenty of stuff out there you can get for multimedia: xmms, xine; there are even Windows media player and Real Player for Solaris floating around...can't get them from the official sites anymore, I don't think...

  • Software Express for Solaris 10 04/05. Whats in it?

The title says it all, but could some one point me to a URL or tell me what's new in the currect release SE of Solaris 04/05.
This is a general question, since I always have this problem to find out if it is worth downloading the monthly update, if they are no new or intersting features to play with.

It is very sad to answer my own question, but i found the answer, so just in case any one else wants the answer:

  • Sun Cluster 3.1 64 bit support  for Solaris 10

    Hi:
I have some questions when migrate SC 3.1 from solaris 9 to solaris 10.
    1) Does Clutster 3.1 for solaris 10 support 64 bit?
I have develop own resource type which is compiled with 64 bit mode, while cluster admin program is 32 bit based. E.g. /usr/cluster/bin/scrgadm
Will that cause any problem? For instance: 32 bit lib and 64 bit lib have the same name libscha.so will be loaded by 32 bit scrgadm and 64 bit my own developped resource type program.
    2) Can I download a Cluster 3.1 install-pkg for solaris 10, 64 bit supported., which means all admin files like scrgadm are 64 bit based.
Or only ONE Cluster 3.1 version for solaris 10 is deliveried by SUN?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    Comments on your 2 questions:
    1) Yes. IIRC, SC31 for S10 actually supports ONLY 64 bit. To be clear, this means
Solaris has to be booted in 64 bit mode, but 32 bit applications would run just
    fine.
As for your RT being 64 bit, and scrgadm being 32 bit, no problem.
    2) See (1). You are good.
    Go for it.

  • Where is the Apps 11i adpater software for Solaris ?

    Hi,
I installed interconnect 10g on Solaris for testing. In the CD, I can install the adapters for MQ, DQ, AQ, SMTP and some others. But, I can't finf any trace of the software adapter for the Apps 11i ?
Someone can help me to find it for Solaris ?
    Thanks !

    Gilles,
According to the Oracle Data Sheet for Oracle Application Server 10g Integration Adapter for Oracle Applications...
"The adapter is available for Oracle 10g InterConnect version 9.0.4.0.2, which is packaged with Oracle Application Server - Enterprise Edition."
It then goes on to say ... "Together with the Oracle AS 10g InterConnect, the Oracle Applications Adapter provides the necessary infrastructure to integrate Oracle Applications with the rest of your extended enterprise."
To me it sounds like the Apps Adapter doesn't come with OracleAS 10g Integration (or InterConnect :-) ), but with the Oracle Application Server - EE.
Hope this points you in the right direction.
    Cheers
    Ian

  • Multimedia programs for Solaris 10

    Hi All,
I am looking some multimedia programs like mp3 players, avi players, jpg viewers.
I have found some but installing it (for example vlc) is very difficult.
Maybe you know some web page where I can find more programs for Solaris.
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

    good luck.
Real player is now included automagically. It covers most of what you can do. There are some oss types out there that allow a little more coverage but not much.
XMMS is the only really decent jukebox I have found and I believe it works quite well for mp3s.
I am sure others have some better advice. Blastwave is where I get xmms.

  • Looking for Solaris 9 9/05 Software Supplement CD

Is there a Software Supplement CD for Solaris 9 9/05 (SPARC)? There was one for Solaris 9 9/04 but I can't find one for 9/05. I am referring the the Software Supplement CD (including VTS, RSC, ALOM, etc.), and not the Software Companion CD.
    Thanks

If you are looking for a recent Solaris 9 Software Supplement CD, these aren't available for download. You have to order/buy the Media Kit.
Sometime there was an image available with earlier Solaris 9 versions.

  • Is there native file system for solaris cluster?

As GFS for RedHat Linux and GPFS for AIX, is there any native file system for solaris cluster? Thanks for any infomation!

What do you mean by 'native'?
Oracle Solaris Cluster has a feature called the Global File System (or sometimes the Proxy File System). It allows UFS or Symantec VxFS to be mounted globally (on all cluster nodes simultaneously) in read/write mode. There is also a shared QFS option. All these are described in the documentation and in the book "Oracle Solaris Cluster Essentials".

  • Cluster filesystem for SOLARIS ??

    Hello all,
I have done the installation of 10.2 RAC on Linux(wrt hunter's doc).
Here we format the shared disks using OCFS.
I need to do a RAC installation on Solaris 10. I read that OCFS is only for Windows and Linux.
What is it that should be used for Solaris ??
We are planning to use storage by Netapp NFS.
    TIA,
    JJ

On solaris using Netapp NAS technology it's pretty straightforward.
Create a mount point (or multiple mount points) to host the OCR and voting files.
ensure permission are correct. What you need to do after this is create the files that will be used for voting and ocr so:
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/path/to/shared/folder/ocr bs=1024 count=100000
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/path/to/shared/folder/voting bs=1024 count=100000
(You may want multiple of these for redundancy)
When you install clusterware when it asks for the location of the ocr and voting disks point it to the files you have created.

  • The deployment process seems to die or get stuck, iAS 6 SP3 for Solaris 8?

When I deploy my application in iAS 6 SP3 for Solaris 8 the deployment process seems to die or get stuck. In the shell window i get the messages
iasdeploy for iPlanet Application Server 6.0 SP3
Connected to LDAP server on sstu15.auto.com port 389
iPlanet Application Server is running in international mode

    sstu15:10 kas> deployment action ''J2EEInstallEar'' (/u02/home/iplanet/JAR/SSS.ear) running.
After this nothing happens for a really long time.
When starting the deployment I get in the beginning of kas.log two entries
    ADMIN-168: kas> deployment get log ''J2EEInstallEar''
    GDS-007: finished a registry load
but suddenly the second line disappears and the only message I get is the first entry. I need to break the deployment process and kill the processes manually.
When starting the application server I get two error messages:

I think all processes starts OK, I get one for .kas and one for kas, one for .kxs and one for kxs and finally one for .kjs and one for kjs.
Is someone familiar with this/these problem(s)?

It seems you are deploying a very big application. Try to deploy this application with following command
    j2eeappreg <filename>
It should work fine. It was a bug with iasdeploy command in iAS SP3 which had been fixed in iAS SP4.

  • Build for solaris 8 on solaris 10 - possible?

I want to build/compile an application for solaris 8, but I only have access to a machine running solaris 10. Can I compile for solaris 8 on a solaris 10 machine, and if so, what do I have to do to make it work?

The short answer is generally no.
The long answer is that it can be done but you will need to make sure that on the Solaris 10 machine you only use functions/headers/libraries that are available on Solaris 8 otherwise they will not be found and the software won't work.
