Multimedia in PDF on Mobile devices runnig android and iOS6

Hello,
I managed to integrate video (mp4) and also animation (.swf) into a PDF-file. Were are distributing PDFs to our students. Is there any possibility to access the multimedia content using mobile devices? That is tablets running iOS 6, android 4.1 and also e-readers such as kindle paper white?
I tried different readers on iOS and also on android but could not get it to work.
I'm looking forward to get an answer to this question.

In terms of Adobe software, the short answer is "no" and the long answer is "wait and see but don't get your hopes up".
The paid-for third party Android app "ezPDF Reader Multimedia" has some support playback of video and sound annotations, but it doesn't cope with Flash or scripting so the experience in a complex interactive PDF is variable to say the least.
In terms of Flash, there will never be integration into the mobile versions of Reader as the runtime isn't distributed to mobile platforms anymore. About half of the JavaScript API calls are technically possible on Android but JS isn't part of the app yet (we have very limited JS API support on iOS right now, but only for forms-related function calls), Direct playback of embedded RMA media streams (MP3 and H.264) is also technically possible on both platforms (as ezPDF demonstrates), but Adobe have chosen not to make it a priority.

How can I export an InDesign document as an interactive PDF for mobile devices?

Avoid SWF at all cost and export using Adobe PDF (interactive).
The experience will depend on the PDF reader that the user has installed.

  • PDF files on mobile Devices with iOS and/or Android

I would like to use PDF files (with embedded JS Code) on Smartphones and Tablets with iOS and/or Android.
Are there Apps out there that not only display the contents (the "graphics") of the PDF file correctly
but also execute the embedded JS Code properly on such devices?
And if so, which Versions will be supported for
         Adobe Pro?
         iOS?
         Android?
Are there freeware or shareware Versions available?

Since the mobile devices, smart phones, tablets, eReaders, do not support JavaScript the app you use will need to provide the JavaScript support. Not all apps provide this support for JavaScript. The apps that support JavaScript only support a limited number of features so you will need to test the PDFs, the device and the app.
The version of Acrobat that runs on your computer will not work on your mobile device since the CPU's, Central Processing Unit, machine code is very different since the devices have different CPUs and the storage space to hold the code on the mobile device is much less than your desktop or laptop.
Adobe Mobile Reader does support some JavaScript but not date formatting and not document level JavaScript.
Expert PDF for the iPxx supports the largest amount of JS but still does not support all the possible JS that could be used in a form.

  • Opening LiveCycle generated pdf on mobile devices

We have created numerous documents in LiveCycle ES3 so that the forms can be filled in and saved as a PDF, and so that some sections of the form can expand to accept large text blocks when needed.  The forms work perfectly when opened on a desktop version of Adobe Reader.  They don't open at all when users are attempting to view on a mobile device (Android, I Phone, I pad, etc).  The devices have the most current version of Adobe Reader installed, but still get an error message.
Is there any way to save the forms so that they can be read from a mobile device with Adobe Reader?  If not, are there any third party apps that will open the forms?  They don't need to be able to fill in.  The mobile users will only be opening the form and reading it.

Forms designed in LiveCycle Designer ES3 are XFA based forms. They cannot be opened on mobile devices.
LiveCycle ES4 introduced Mobile Forms module which can render the existing XFA form as HTML5. More info here : http://helpx.adobe.com/livecycle/topics/mobile-forms-dev.html

  • Viewing PDF in mobile devices

If you create a Pdf using Indesign, import into Acrobat Pro and add text etc.....if you then save the Pdf to email to customers, the text entered using Acrobat Pro does not show in mobile devices!

Thanks for your reply....not sure how to upload a file....it's a very simple Pdf, viewed on a laptop or desktop there's no problem, only mobile devices.
Everything done with Indesign is fine, only some minor text entered using Acrobat does not show.

  • PDF on mobile devices.

Does the PDF created in LC Designer 9.0, extended through Adobe Reader Extension Server, requires a certain version of reader to work on mobile devices? Some customers were trying the PDF on their mobile device versions of Reader and it wouldn't open.
    Thanks

    Hi,
As Paul says XFA forms are not supported.
XFA Forms don't work (very well) on iOS devices. The passport form you mentioned is probably a Static PDF Form and the target version is probably set for v7.
Even at that the form does NOT fully work across three apps on iOS:
    XFA Form in iOS Safari:
XFA Form in iOS PDF Expert:
XFA Form in iOS Adobe Reader:
In all three cases you can see the form, but either some OR all of the functionality is broken.
If the form was saved as a Dynamic XML Form it would be even worse!!! You probably would not even see the form!!!
Maybe you should check out Adobe FormsCentral, for web-based forms that open and work on mobile devices: https://formscentral.acrobat.com/app.html.

  • How to find Mobile device OS name and version using Flex?

is there anyway to get device information like OS name and version using flex 4.5.1 or 4.6 SDK. i am developing a project in Flex which needs to identify the end user mobile platform like Android, iOS.. and its version like Android means 2.1,2.2,etc..
Anyone can help me on this?

I don't know that there is a proprietary driver. In fact, I'm sure there isn't because I never installed one. I figured there was some code file somewhere that dealt with keyboards. Yes, I have dealt with the developer, they say to tell Apple there is a problem. I have been putting it off and waiting to update since 10.6.3, so the problem is getting a little old. Do I even know there is a problem? I'm not sure what this means. I do know that when I update my operating system past 10.6.2 my keyboard no longer works, and I have to use a stock Apple keyboard to run a time machine reinstall. Why else would I be going through this?

  • HTML5 output is not working on mobile devices, including iPads and iPhones

    Hello,
I posted a question about this last week but had no reply. So I'm posting it again as it presents a serious problem for anyone wanting to publish content to mobile devices from Captivate 6.
The problem is that HTML5 quiz content runs incrediably slowly (it at all) and crashes the brower on mobile devices. I have tested this on an iPhone and 2 iPads in 2 different locations.
This is a demo that shows the problems: http://sshls-dev.port.ac.uk/captivate_problems/
(Running this demo on a standard laptop / PC will be fine and it will work perfectly. The problem only appears when the content is viewed on a mobile device).
The problem is more extreem in the 'shorthand' demo. The quiz loads up the first question and then when I press submit it either freezes or closes the browser (Safari) completly. Occasionally it will progress to questions 2 or 3 but then the same happens.
I am keen on finding an answer / workaround becuase at the moment it effectively means that Captivate cannot be used to display quizes on phones / iPads.
I would be very grateful if anyone knows how to solve this problem to let me know.
    thanks,
    Emily

  • Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) and frozen "Connect to iTunes" screen

I have had my iPod Touch for about one year and have synced with my PC (XP) without incident during that time. Yesterday something happened while connecting with iTunes and I have not been able to find the solution on this board or others. Maybe the charge remaining in the iPod was insufficient. The iPod screen is frozen with the "Connect to iTunes" icon. I can turn it off (black screen) but as soon as it is attached to the PC or docked, the same icon reappears. I cannot make the red slider appear to shut it down.
On the PC side, as soon as I attach the iPod, it wants to install the driver for "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)". I have attempted to point it to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers find the driver, but what it wants is not there. I have completely uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime and related files; and reinstalled iTunes. I have tried every trick I can find in this forum and others to no avail. When the iPod is connected to the PC, the device manager shows Other Devices - Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) with a yellow question mark and exclamation point. This device shows twice. The Apple Mobile Device USB Driver shows under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and is working properly.
I am at the end of my rope. I hope somebody that can help me will read this. Thanks.

    Hi
I am experiencing the same problem as the person in the first thread as follows:
"The iPod screen is frozen with the "Connect to iTunes" icon. I can turn it off (black screen) but as soon as it is attached to the PC or docked, the same icon reappears. I cannot make the red slider appear to shut it down.

I have tried everything I can think of and have been advised to do on the Apple Support pages but this makes no difference.
Please can someone offer a solution.

  • Apple Mobile Device Support uninstall and itunes install causes loss of internet connection

Whenever I uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS)  I lose my internet connection. The only way to fix this is to restore Windows to a previous state. I've tried  troubleshooting my internet connection when this happens but Windows tells me something is wrong with both my wired and wireless connection drivers... and of course I need the internet to fix said drivers :s
I've tried repairing AMDS and this doesn't help either.
I've been trying to download itunes but it tells me a program needed to install it cannot be run. After this I can't get back on the internet without first restoring windows to a previous state. I thought that uninstalling everything apple from my system would do the trick but I can't seem to uninstall AMDS without messing up my internet drivers. What else can I try?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
