Multimedia problems with Acro 8 vs Acro 9 on Win 7 PC

I have two main problems:
1. If I do not follow the 'Legacy' approach (i.e., I follow the default new approach) in embedding MOV files via my Acro 9 Pro Extended:
    a.  No matter whether I specify No border vs. Thin vs. Thick all I ever get is an ugly, thick black border in my floating window, making it almost impossible to see the 'X' for closing it in the upper right hand corner. New users won't even know the 'X' is there.
   b.  I need floating windows because there are so many that posters from the clips themselves would take up too much space in the PDF. But there seems to be no way to specify 'No Poster' so it can use the little icon I embed into the original Word doc for each clip. I suppose I could specify that icon in the PDF, but still...
  c.  Worst of all: There appears to be no way to achieve frame by frame viewing. This is essential for my application, which shows lots and lots of deaf sign language videos for analysis by fellow linguists, many of whom work mainly with foreign sign languages very different from American Sign Language (ASL), which is what my clips contain. Even linguists familiar with ASL will need frame by frame viewing since the signs go by so quickly.
===> I would very much like to use the new approach (FLVs) for the smaller filesize. But I cannot unless the above problems can be solved. Is it just me? Just my bad installation of Windows 7, perhaps?
2.  If I do follow the legacy approach and embed the MOV files that way, the above problems do not occur if the resulting PDF is run on my Win XP PC. However, when I show the video clips in that PDF on my Win 7 PC, the controls at the bottom of the floating window DO NOT APPEAR. In their place, there is simply an UGLY BLACK BAR. This is true even though the PDF was built moments earlier on the same Win 7 PC.
The same problem occurs if I take a PDF built in Acro 8 on my Win XP PC and try to show it on my Win 7 PC: same ugly black bar.
Please help! As the situation now stands it will be IMPOSSIBLE for any linguist with a Win 7 PC to view the clips embedded in my published articles. (That is, unless there's something wrong with my Win 7 PC!)
One such article is already published, and I had a rude shock when I tried to view it on my Win 7 PC.

Hey sbencke,
Sorry I did not realise you were using hardware in your system. When using a virtual OS it will not pass the USB I/O's as the virtual machine does not always communicate well with the hardware you are using. You may be able to find software that will pass the USB functions but I cannot guarantee if this will solve the problem 100%, What I recommend is an upgrade to LabVIEW 2010. This will ensure it is compatible with your OS, an should iron out any communication problems with your Hardware. Also with an upgrade, NI is able to offer technical support over the phones so we are able to help you with any difficulty you may encounter. If you are unsure about the upgrade a trail version can be installed, to ensure that an upgrade will solve your problems. The trial download is in a link i have posted below.

  • Problem with UTF-8 japanese on Win XP

    Hi,
I have a Client/server application with a server coded in C++ and runing on HP workstation and the GUI in java runing in a web context via java webstart mechanism on PC machine with win XP sp2 OS.
when logging into the HP workstation in japanese SHIFT_JIS and downloading the application japanese Charcters are displayed correctly on my PC.
However when logging into the HP workstation in japanese with UTF-8 encodage and kaunching the application characters aren't displayed correctly only rectangle charcaters are displayed, when launching the GUI on HP workstation it displayed correctly.
Can any one help me to resolve this problem.
    Regards,

Both SHIFT_JIS and UTF-8 are character encodings. SHIFT_JIS encodes a superset of JISX-0208 to double-byte codepoints and JISX-0201 to single byte codepoints. UTF-8 encodes all of Unicode.
The problem here is that you are relying on "default" encoding for a client-server application. This only works when the default encoding is the same on both ends.
Go through your code, looking for everywhere where you convert to and from Strings, including reading and writing to IO Streams, and replace the methods you are using with equivalent methods that let you specify an encoding.

  • Problems with printing after upgrading to Win 8.1 and/ or explorer 11

I just upgraded to Win 8.1 and now some things I want to print are not formatted properly. I've updated the drivers and the print doctor doesn't find anything wrong. The issue I see is when trying to print a shipping label, the label components are overlapping. On another computer it is fine and prints fine. Help?

  • Problems with cd rom drivers on win 98

Ok I have a MSI 6524 mb and a sony cdrw drive, an LG cr rom and 1st gen dvd that dont like to read cdr's.  I have formated my hd and put win 98 se on it, but it will not load the cd rom drivers , and because of that, the IDE drivers wont install cause they come on later from win 98.  I've check all manufactures web sites and non offer a cd rom driver cause they are all plug and play.
Now I have a windows ME boot disk that does have the cd rom drivers but I keep getting an error message about disk cache utilitly being on my hard drive when I use the ME boot disk     Is there a way to use the ME and not have errors?  I know there is a way to load cdrom drivers in DOS, but im Super stuid with DOS and even with instructions from the net I cant get it right.  Can somone please offer me some very GOOD instructions on what to do.

Well I tried that, but only the Windows Me boot disk seems to have drivers for my cd rom.  I even tried to use a patch that adds 4 more cd rom drives to my win 98 boot disk, but I couldnt understand how to do that.  I think it was a bad patch.
The main reason I'm redoing my Hd is because everytime I try to use any thing , any program, run anything, it will work for a few seconds and then freeze to a blue screen that says "windows has had a fatal error, press any key to continue or press control alt del to restart"  So I push any key and explorer has performed an illegal opperation, so I click on close, and then another program does the same thing , and then another, til there is nothing left running, or the comp is completely frozen.  And then everysingle time I reboot , the same thing happens.

  • Problems with system restore points in Win 8.1 (keep increasing in size)

    Hi,
I was sent here by Microsoft Support who seem to have no idea of the mechanics of System Restore and what could interfere with it. I've no idea where to post this, so I hope you can help in that.
I have the problem that my System Restore point (only a single point) keeps increasing rapidly in size from a few Mb to many Gb and even fills the C drive if I don't stop it. Setting a limit to the size doesn't help (in System Restore or VSS), as it ignores
it and increases the limit. I have tried all the usual (sfc, DISM, chkdsk, several antivirus and malware programs) with no success.
Obviously, I can turn off System Restore, but that isn't really something I want to do.

When you say "system backup", do you mean generation of system restore points or an actual backup? i don't use MSBackup.
    Hi,
What I meant system backup is system backup feature that it would create restore point when you enable system backup automatically.
I made a test in our testing enviroment. limit restore point disk space usage to minize, create some restore point. When I create a seconde restore point, it would replace the former time point. The maxize disk space usage won't more than the limiation.
Therefore, please check the size of Restore Point in C:\System Volume Information if it's larger than system limiation.

  • Problem with supsersedence

    Hi,
I have a problem with supersedence. Client have win 7, office 2010, language pack and proofing tools. We want to upgrade to Office 365. Then we have to uninstall all Office 2010 products, and then install Office 365. I have used supersedence and created
a device collection. This is limited to all systems, and membership rules I used direct. I have just added one client to this collection and done the office 365 deployment to this collection. Office 2010 are uninstalled and Office 365 are installed,
but the problem are that other client then I have added to the collection got this application package. I don't understand why.
I have experience the same problem on the Adobe reader 11.0.5 package I have made. This have also a supersedence. When I deploy a new maskin it have adobe reader 11.0.5 installed, but somehow it reinstall after a while. Some client it just uninstall without
install again. I have just one deployment on this. It deployed to all system, but with direct rule. And I have just added some client to this collection.
Could it be some problem with the supersedence or are the problem with device collection?

I received this feedback in another forum.
Let me take a wild guess. Your Office 2010 is part of an optional task sequence (probably OSD). And your Adobe Reader obviously too.
If you superseed an application, which is part of an optional task sequnce, all clients of the task sequence target collection, with the superseed version installed, will get the new Version, no matter to which collection you deploy it.
Makes sense? No .. but it's the sad truth.
I actually had a ticket open with MS Support. They could'nt help us either. The bug seems to have no priority for the developers and might be fixed with a future CU.
I am hardly using the supersedence option anymore now, to avoid this bevahior.

  • Problems automating actions in Acro 9 and 10

I just downloaded the trial version of Acro X in hopes that its ability to Create Actions would solve a longstanding problem I have, but apparently it will not. After I have described it briefly, please tell me if Acro X (or Acro 9, which I have) can solve this, if not by the Create Actions capability then maybe be Actionscript or Javascript?
I prepare PDFs in which there are typically a fairly large number video files (often 60 to 80 of them, usually MOV files) embedded and attached to 'icons' (actually areas surrounding tiny 'filmstrip' pictures in the document that were brought over from Word). The parameters I want for these are always different from those Acrobat defaults to. Specifically, I want floating a window, no poster, don't match display area to that of media file, keep open till user closes window, sometimes link instead of embed, and others (I can't see them all now since I uninstalled Acro 9 when I installed Acro 10). Since there is no way to choose different default video parameters from those chosen by Acrobat (despite my repeated requests to Adobe, though of course I'm only one person), I am forced to enter every single one of them for every single video clip.
Currently my best work-around uses keyboard macros from AutoHotkey, which are surprisingly good but often I have to rebuild them as screen positions change. I was hoping that the Create Actions capability would solve this, but I see no way for it to do that. I notice Acro 10 can do Javascript which I've written a lot of in the past, and I've written some Actionscript (was it in an early version of Flash? I forgot). I haven't looked into the interface for them in Acro 10, so this is just a shot in the dark, but would it be possible to use Javascript or Actionscript to build a little program run by Acro that I could just fire off to choose all the desired parameters for me?
Another problem with Acro 10: until now, I have needed to use the legacy capability since my users need slow motion capability, which Acro 9's video interface with FLV files doesn't provide. Also users cannot see the 'X' = close window button in the black window border that's the only one available in Acro 9. Now it looks like I will be forced to convert the MOV files to H.264, There are a huge number of them. Will I lose resolution?
    Thanks for your help.

Looking through the Help doc on Javascript, it appears that it can be used only to construct actions triggered by users of the constructed PDF, not actions desired by the designer of the PDF to make his work easier.
If you know of any other solutions to my problem, please let me know!
    Thanks,
    Peyton

  • Wireless printing problem with hp officejet 100 mobile printer from win 7 dell laptop

My hp officejet 100 mobile printer was working fine with my dell XPS 15 in bluetooth wirelessly until my laptop crashed. Now I can not get it to print internet info except with hard wire connection. Page loads half way and then stops. Must shut down laptop and shut off printer or hard wire and shut off bluetooth. down loaded lastest drivers to no avail. printer will print from cell phone and win 8 computer via bluetooth but not win 7 laptop.

Sorry you are having problems with printing from the internet.  I have a few more questions to ask you before I can be of much assistance.
    What web-browser are you using?
Do you have any problems printing from Word or other non-internet documents?
What did you do to fix your computer (system restore, clean install of the OS, etc)?
Have you tried an alternate web-browser?
Make sure to install all of your Microsoft updates to see if that helps.  Otherwise, answer those questions for me please and I will be happy to help.

  • Problem with Wine, NVidia and fullscreen games

    Hi,
I'm writing about a problem i recently noticed with wine, nvidia gpu and fullscreen 2d games.Basically the problem is as follows - i am running arch with the latest kernel and nvidia drivers on Thinkpad T61 with NVidia Quadro NVS 140M. I have a problem with old 2d games like Red Alert 2, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Diablo 2, Heroes 3. All of these games do not support the native 1440x900 resolution of my screen and all of them work fine in window mode but crash if fullscreen is selected. I managed to get some of them working by making them work at higher resolutions. For example although Red Alert 2 does not support 1440x900, it can be easily made to work at that resolution and after i applied the necessary settings it worked. The same was with Heroes 3 - by default it does not support 1440x900 and it used to work only i window mode but there is a HD mod which allows it to run in higher resolutions and after i applied it it worked perfectly in fullscreen. I haven't thested Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale but i think it will work there too.
The problem is that i cannot use this approach to all games - for example i must run Diablo 2 and Starcraft in their original resolutions. I read somewhere that the problem is that wine can only change between the resolutions described in the xorg.conf file and if doesn't find the necessary resolution the game will crash or will only take the portion of the screen that is its resolution - for example when i play Starcraft rather than stretching it to the whole screen it simply takes 640x480 pixels of my screen and the game is displayed in the top left corner of the screen leaving everything else black.
I didn't have this problem before - it is something new though i'm not sure since when do i have the problem because i rarely play games. As for the idea that the problem may be related to the resolutions defined in the Xorg.conf file, my xorg.conf is automatically generated by the nvidia installer and there are no resolutions defined there.

I have Nvidia 304.48 installed and the problem still exists (it also happens with Catalyst). This didn't occur with 295.59 using the same version of Wine.

  • Problem with installing R12  with Win 2008 (Rapidwiz 12.1.1.9)

I could really use someones help.
I did a download recently of Oracle Financials R12 for windows (I'm using WIN 2008 server) which contained version 12.1.1.9 Rapidwiz. I was unable to get it to work as individual DVD's which is fine, I build the staging area and had better results.
The first error I encountered was the release contained JRE 1.6 but the install referenced 1.5. I took a suggestion that I saw to copy the directory and rename it which worked just fine.
The next error I encountered came during the database install. There was some problem with the database service. It sounds similar to a problem discussed about just the database not related to Oracle Financials but the "fix" to just start the database doesn't seem to apply.
Below is the Rapidwiz log. The warning first mentioned is to check to be sure that the Administrator user being used in the install belongs to the administrator user group which of course it does.
I've brought to the top of the log, the error that I think is occurring. Please help me install, I'm trying to evaluate the software but having trouble with just the install is concerning.

  • I just moved my itunes library from a win 7 computer to a win 8.1 computer. Getting an error message "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. Can't play CDs or get audio file from web!

Help! I just moved my itunes library from a Win 7 computer to a new Win 8.1 computer following the instructions on the itunes website. Everything is good except I'm getting an error message on the Win 8 computer if I try to play a CD or get an audio file off of the internet. I get an error message that says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. I don't know where to look for or fix the audio configuration on the win 8 computer. As far as I can tell the iTunes configuration looks the same as on the other computers in the house. At this point I don't dare plug my ipod touch into the Win 8 computer for fear it will get messed up.

I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound  from Skype to Windows Media Player,...

  • Problem with Win 7 x64, WWAN or WiFi card and Windows XP Mode

I have a T500 with switchable graphics (2056-4RU) with a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x64 with the AT&T WWAN card.
With all the Win7 RTM drivers and Access Connections for Win7, I had a problem that the WWAN card (Ericson F3507g, purchased from Lenovo and working flawlessly under Vista 32-bit) would not initialize. Support told me to uninstall the Win 7 versions of the Power Manager Drivers, WWAN card driver and Access Connections and replace them with the Vista counterparts, which restored the functionality of my WWAN card. Based on the speed with which the support tech came up with the suggested fix, I suspect I am not the only one with the disappearing WWAN card problem.
Now I have found that starting the Windows XP Mode virtual machine kills the WiFi functionality (Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN) until I disable and re-enable the WiFi adapter in Device Manager and then restart the system. (I have not problems with XP Mode and with the Win7 drivers / Access Connections opening Windows XP Mode did not cause the problem with the WiFi.) Opening Windows XP Mode causes no problem with the wired network adapter on my system).
Thus it appears that I can have functionality of the WWAN and WiFi adapters with XP Mode using the Released Win 7 versions and functionality of Windows XP Mode together OR I can have WWAN but not WiFi functionality with XP Mode using the Vista drivers that support suggested. However, it seems that I cannot have WWAN, WiFi and XP Mode concurrently.
I reproduced the above XP mode / WWAN problem / WiFi problems on a T500 with Win7 x64 owned by another family member.
Does anyone (particularly anyone from Lenovo) have fix for this?
    Thanks.

for the sim card, try this:
    http://jack.ukleja.com/update-ericsson-f3507g-mobile-broadband-on-windows-7-with-lenovo-thinkpad/com...
I have another operator and I finally gave up. apparently it's also no that easy to install the SIM card, if the plastic thing that helps to remove the SIM card  is not the right position, it will overlap the SIM Card chip.
can't help for the WIFI. I had the problems too with access connection and decided to remove it. I use Seven's network manager, which does an equally good job.
Since I have the switch to turn off the wireless, I don't really need access connection anyway.
Finally, something that I learns while struggling with the bluetooth driver: the order in which power manager, access connection and the different drivers are installed DOES affect their effectiveness. I forgot the details but I remember 2 things:
always read the TXT file that is available on the driver page on the lenovo web site and install power manager and access connection last.
    Good luck

  • Problems with sql developer and win 8 64 bit

    Hi there,
It's my first time in this forum, I am a student programmer and I have many problems to install SQL Developer on Oracle Database 12c. I actually managed to install both, but I could not make them work. My question is SQL Developer works on the Windows 8 platform 64-bit?
I'm going crazy, help me please .... Thanks for a while!!!

SqlDeveloper should have no problem working in Win 8, but i do not think it's a supported platform yet.
The Database could be a little more troublesome, if you only need a working database environment to make experiments you could find the "pre-built" Virtual Machines useful.
For Win 8 and 12c try using the EA release of SQLDeveloper 4, because if I'm not mistaken the current 3.2.2 could have some problems with 12c.
