Multimeter problem- values way off
Hi everyone,
today I installed MultiSim 10 and to my surprise, the multimeter is giving me impossible values, even in the most basic circuits. My first thought was "Ok, I'm an undergrad; so I might miss something in the circuit", but even in the most basic one that contains a DC source of 3 volts, 2 serially connected resistors with 10 Ohms each, the multimeter readings are:
V: 3V, which is right
A: 300mA if multimeter is connected 'around' on a single resistor, and -r- if connected to both resistors
R: 150 M Ohms.. That's right.. I'm getting 150,000,000 in what is supposed to be a mere 20.
What might be the reason, any ideas? This has to have an easy solution, with something very obvious that I am overlooking. Thanks a lot...
Sorry for the kick, but I ran into the same weird problem with a variable resistor.
The value always (no matter the % setting) stays at 500MOhm, while without a powersupply hooked up, it's correct.
And to make things weirder(?), this is what happens after changing the power supply output voltage:

Lightroom 2.2 Printing Problems...color is way off
I have had issues with printing in Lr but never really cared since I used Zoombrowser to print most of my stuff for "around the house" and everything always looked fine (even if I modified the image in LR and printed from Zoombrowser). The colors coming from printing in Lr were always way off when using my Pixma IP4300.
I just purchased a Epson 3800 and now I would like to start using Lr for printing. I have tried everything I know and the colors are still way off when printed from Lr. I selected the appropriate color profile in LR for the printer and paper type, I turned off ICC color in the printer setup menu and the color is still off. If I save the Lr photo and print from Zoombrowser then it looks perfectly fine (still turning off ICC).
Now that I have a nice printer I'd love to be able to print right from Lr as it would save me alot of time and significantly increase my options.

Btw...I am using Vista Ultimate 64I doubt the reason that I didn't get any replies is because people assumed I didn't search. There is no way of knowing who did and didn't search the forums before offering to help someone.
I searched the forums and found no problems similar to mine using the same OS, printer and Lr version.
Here is my problem with some more detail:
I am using Lr 2.2 64bit, Vista Ultimate 64, Epson 3800 Pro (6.5 drivers), Premium Lustre Photo Paper.
Here is what I am doing.
1) When in Lr and ready to print I select the Lr profile as "Pro38 PLPP" which is the 3800 Paper profile that is in the list of available profiles for Lr.
2) I select Relative (perceptual didn't appear to change anything)
3) I click "print" then I am taken to the 3800 selection menu.
4) I click properties next to the selected printer, I leave everything alone except for "mode"...I chaneg it from Auto to Custom and then select No color adjustment. Everything else appears fine...the paper type is correct etc. But when print the photo the reds come out pinkish etc etc. All of the colors are pretty far off.
I reinstalled the 64bit drivers from epson and nothing changed.
Any ideas? -
Page Tiling is Way Off -- fixable?
I'm running Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2) under an evaluation copy of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit (build 7100) and the page tiling for my Photosmart printer is way off and mighty peculiar to boot. A "new" file may show the correct margins, but once I've gone into "print," and back to the file, the tiling shows 1/4" all around, as for the Laserjet (which is the default printer). Or the tiling lines may appear well outside of the page outline -- and double, with one set about 3/8" larger all around. A file I keep as a template for a plain 8 1/2x11" portrait layout opens with the tiling lines in the right place, but also changes as above once I've gone into "print" and come back to the file. The print preview shows 1/4" margins all around, and prints to that size, meaning anything laid out (lain out?) to the page tiling is off the 1/2" margin of the Photosmart. A similar "template" file for landscape does the same. (Landscape page tiling has always been wonky -- that is unchanged or maybe worse, with tiling lines for both layouts, doubled, etc.)
This is some kind of a system problem, not an Illustrator or perhaps even an Adobe software problem (it's the same in Photoshop though I don't often print from PS so it's not bothersome there), but I thought someone here might have had the same problem or one like it.
I 'm using the latest printer driver -- insofar as there is a "latest:" for Vista 65bit--, but HP didn't much want to install it to Win7 -- it did install when I chose the "install with recommended settings" button.
Any input will be appreciated. (Except don't tell me to get CS4, I tried for a month to get the copy I bought to install and spent days' worth of phone hours to accomplish nothing, finally got some of my money back and decided to wait for CS5 or until I find non-Adobe programs to do some or all of the jobs... whichever comes first...)

Molly<Have you considered creating a user-defined default document profile for the printer in teh printers control panel?
That doesn't seem to be an option with this printer, at least not anywhere I can find.
<Sounds like the print engine is querying those values and the system simply returns >>>what it thinks<<< are correct settings based on your printer default.
But the printer default (letter, document, meaning with the normal printer margin of .25" top and sides, about .4" on the bottom) should return the correct margins, shouldn't it? (.25" all around is the default for the Laserjet, but it makes no difference whether the default printer is the Photosmart or the Laserjet)
<Also check, which printer language it's using. It often makes a huge difference of PS vs. PCL. vs. WinPrint (GDI+).
<Far as I remember it's PCL like all the other HP printers we've had --can't find that in the properties tabs either and put the manuals somewhere where I knew I could always find them... (bet I can download them)
Illustrator has never liked that printer much -- CS2 crashed if I changed the settings (which was nearly always necessary) from its printer setup function. And CS3 still gets absolutely crazy with page tiling if I change the page setting from portrait to landscape. I don't remember if PS has the same troubles.
<If all else fails, an alternative may be to save as PDF and print from Acrobat. It has a much better handle on such things. AI is really quite limited in that regard...
What I did, and should have thought of first thing! was put a guide on the lower page tiling line of the template file (for printing custom-sized labels and sets of photos, has centers and cut lines marked) as soon as I had the template file on the screen. The tiling lines are correct to the printable area of the Photosmart until the print function is evoked. Then when I'm designing and spacing labels etc., I'll know where the lower boundary is.
Saving as a PDF isn't very practical for this stuff as my husband is of the nibbled to death by ducks, or millimetres, school of design and will have me making mm adjustments for hours on a label which to be stuck on a hard hat (and thus wrinkled and distorted, as a rule). Every time he needs a new set or a reprinting of an existing badge. (Hmmm... if I PDFed the file and told him it was unchangeable...)

Changed Pressure transducers with 0-5Vdc from the old 0-10. PVis way off!
Im a newby with labiew as of last week. I was tasked to change the range of new pressure transducers that were recently installed in our lab application. I am currently running 6.1 with Fp-PS-4 , FP-1601 , FP-AI-112 , and FP-RTD-124 Hardware. We are changing over from Omegadyne model PX02C1-015AV to swagelok's S-model, output 0-5, Supply V dc= 10-30 V. The pinout on the connector has already been changed and tested. I also changed the range on the points of change to 0-5 and the pv is reading way off. Im sure there is a scale in a block diagram chart somewhere, but I cannot locate it. Can anyone point to any areas where I may make these changes to correct this problem?

You might check the Channel Configuration settings in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). Under Remote Systems, expand the I/O modules underneath your 1601. Once you click on the I/O module that you are reading your transducer on, you'll see in the window to the right a Channel Configuration tab. Here, you can check the Data Configuration setting for the input Range. Make sure this is set to the expected signal range from your sensor.

Lightroom 2 & 3 Beta color, contrast WAY off on display 2
Lightroom 3 Beta 2 / Windows 7 64bit / Dual calibrated displays
Display 1 connections are HDMI out to digital in, display 2 is digital out to digital in.
PROBLEM
In both the Lightroom 3 Beta 2, and Lightroom 2 v2.6 632038, color, contrast and so on are WAY off on my number 2 monitor. If I drag a Photoshop CS4 window from the left display to the right display I see no difference, looks fine. This is also true with Picasa 3, and iMatch Digital Image Management software and preview images in Picasa photo viewer. The issue seems to be just with Lightroom.
I don't see any settings for adjustment of the Lightroom right hand screen in either version - Help appreciated, IMIf you want to, you could zero out all the settings and then save this as a preset and then automatically that preset to all imported images. Not really sure why you would want to do this though. All your images look pretty flat. The default settings do a fair job of approximating what you see on the back of you camera when you made the shot and give you a good place to start. I tried zeroing things out for a while, and then found out I was bringing every image pretty much back to the defaults, and so stopped doing that.

Explain plan cardinallity is way off compared to actual rows being returned

We have a small but rapidly growing datawarehouse which has OBIEE as its front end reporting tool. Our DBA has set up a automatic stats gathering method in OEM and we can see that it run and gathers stats on stale objects on a regular basis. So we know the statistics are upto date.
In checking some slow queries I can see that the cardinality being reported in explain plans is way off compared to what is actually being returned.
For example the actual number of rows returned are 8000 but the cardinality estimate is > 300,000.
Now as per an Oracle White paper(The Oracle Optimizer Explain the Explain Plan) having "multiple single column predicates on a single table" can affect cardinality estimates and in case of our query that is true. Here is the "WHERE Clause section" of the query

Please see the FAQ for how to post a tuning request and the information that you need to provide.
Part of that information is:
1. DDL for the table and indexes
2. The query being used
3. row counts for the table and for the predicates used in the query
4. info about stats. You did update the table and index stats didn't you?
5. The 'actual' execution plans.
An explain plan just shows what Oracle 'thinks' it is going to do. The actual plans show what Oracle actually 'did' do. Just because Oracle expected to save doesn't mean the savings were actually achieved.
When you post the plans use on the line before and on the line after to preserve formatting.
Your partial code is virtually unusable because of the missing conditions in the predicates. You need to use '!=' for 'not equals' if that's what those missing conditions are.
Please edit your post to use code tags, add the missing conditions and provide the other information needed for a tuning request. -
I have a function that takes an angle in degrees and converts
it to radians. From there it takes the cosine of that angle and
multiplies it by another number. The problem is the result of the
Math.cos is way off.
The first line of code is this:
var theAngle = Math.abs(myAngle)*Math.PI/180;
myAngle is = -90. the result is that theAngle becomes
1.5707963267949.
From there I have this line of code:
var objAcc = grav * Math.cos(theAngle);
note that grav is set to .45. I've double checked in the
debugger and theAngle is still equal to the above listed number.
So, the result SHOULD be that objAcc should be equal to
-1.5711675124992e-15. HOWEVER, it is actually being set to
-1.72286501471525e-1. Is there something I don't know about working
with Math.cos? If I run the function and put in the number itself
instead of a variable it works out fine. It's just that when I have
the variable in there it screws it up.just below your definition of objAcc, what's the following
reveal:
trace(grav);
trace(theAngle);
trace(objAcc); -
Lightroom printing - colors way off
I searched through this forum for a known problem, but I'm at a loss...
My configuration :
Lightroom 2.0
Vista 32 bit
Epson R1800, using glossy paper
Downloaded the most recent drivers and profiles from Epson site.
In the printer properties, I switch ICM off, choosing color mode "Epson vivid" (or even tried "Epson standard", in LR I select the profile "SPR1800 PrmGls Photo" (there seems to be no profile for glossy paper and 'Best photo'.
Rendering intent : perceptual
Sharpening : standard.
So when I print, the colors are way off, photo is too light overall.
But when I try to turn it down in the develop module and print, colors are still way off.
Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong / forgetting / ... ?

PhaedraFrom your description of the problem it appears that you are confusing the R1800 and LR settings. In the print module on the bottom of the left panel is a button for printer setup (or some such words - I am working from memory). Click the button to set the printer. You should choose glossy as the paper type and best photo as the print option in the Epson dialog box. This is not a print profile. Also, make sure that ICM is off and no printer management is selected. That sets the printer.
Back in LR on the right panel near the bottom you should select your print profile which you apparently have installed. If it says "managed by printer" change the setting to the appropriate profile, in your case the SPR1800 PrmGls Photo profile. It should be the icc or icm profile (can't remember which) so check this also.
This should work. -
Dreamweaver CS4 positioning way off!!!
Does anybody know why my Dreamweaver CS4 positioning is WAY off of what appears on any browser? It's not just a couple pixels, it's like over a hundred in each direction. Text and image containers look perfect on DW, but in Safari they're about 100 too high and too far left... then in Firefox they're so far down the page that I can't find middle ground between the two (and then my DW looks so messed up its confusing to work with). I found in CS3 there were some variances, but not like this. Editing this page sucks and I'm so new to web design that my head is going to explode from the frustration. Help!
Pictures don't tell us what's happening under the hood. 99% of rendering/layout problems are in your code. Get some remote server space or make a TEST folder on client's server. Upload problem page and dependent files to the TEST FOLDER then post a URL here so we can see everything in context. If that isn't possible yet, you can copy and insert code into your message here by using the double blue arrows >> Syntax Highlighting > Plain. Remember to show us both your CSS and HTML code.

Presentation timing way off after export to Quicktime
I built a presentation with several embedded Quicktime movies. Want it to play all the way through automatically. Plays beautifully in Keynote, but when I export to Quicktime timing is way off. Individual clips have lots of extra time on the first or last frame. Tried all sizes of export, tried recording and then using recorded timings, but nothing works.
I'm offering free beer to anyone who has the answer.Did you take into account the transition times. That has thrown me off a number of times. Do you have the Fit Slideshow to music option selected?
Another application that creates, IMO, terrific slideshows is PhotoPresenter. It has 25 or more themes and can save the slideshow, with Fit slideshow to music, to a variety of formats, QT, for iPod, HD, etc. This is one of their many themes.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Cropping at angle is not accurate.... Way off!!
My neighbor brought a problem to me which I could not solve. He is running Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 on XPSP2. When he crops something at an angle, the resultant image is way off -- it is not what is within the crop mark. Any idea what is happening here?

If you rotate your crop marquee AND resample (down sample) you can get a distorted image that does not follow the crop lines.
Use real units of measure in the crop setting (inches, cm... NOT pixels) or leave blank, and leave resolution blank. Resize the image after you rotate+crop. -
Location base reminder way off.
Suddenly my iPhone 5 location base reminders are way off. I've checked my location on google maps and the blue dot of my current location is correct but somehow my phone thinks I'm miles away and a reminder will pop up. Does anyone know what could have happened or how to fix it? I've also tried rebooting it by turning my phone off.

I had this same issue on my iPhone 4. I never got them working correctly, they would either trigger miles away from the address I put in or not trigger at all. I gave up on that feature.
My iPhone 5 was doing the same thing. I tried everything I could find in various forums - making sure iCloud sync was on, Exchange reminders sync off, etc etc. Nothing was helping.
I called Apple support and talked with them for a half an hour about this. They said they haven't really heard of this problem (proof they don't read their support forums) and didn't have much to offer in terms of help.
Then it dawned on me - I wonder if WiFi was the problem? I've been turning it off when not at my home/office to conserve battery life, but I wondered if leaving it on would improve the location based services. So I left it on.
Boom - reminders are now working as they should, triggering within 100-200 feet of the address I put in. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner.
So, if you're having problems like this, try leaving WiFi on. Hope that helps! -

Macbook Pro to TV via HDMI - image way off center
Early 2008 15-inch Macbook Pro to TV via HDMI worked at first, now image is way off center on TV (like only showing a sliver of the computer image at the edge of the TV screen). Philips says it's an issue with the computer settings, not the TV. Any suggestions?
