Multipage PDF Scan Problems

Fellow users, I just had an unexpected problem scanning a two-page letter to send to a recipient as an email attachment.  Unlike similar tasks I performed in the past, this time I could not scan it into one PDF document.  Each page scanned separately.  I am running Reader 11.0.2 and my wireless multifunction is HP Officejet 8500 Pro 910A.  Why didn't this simple task work?

I think you'd need to take this up with HP. Adobe Reader will show you the PDF you made, but has nothing to do with making it. (You might assume that HP uses Adobe technology, and uses Reader to do it, which is a reasonable guess but not how it works.)

  • How to avoid tiny rectangles showing up as separate pages in multipage PDFs scanned with Image Capture?

I'm not sure I'm posting this question in the right forum. I am having a scanning problem. I’d appreciate it if anyone could explain what’s happening and suggest how to avoid it or how to fix it after the fact. I’m using a large-format scanner, the HP Officejet 7610, with a MacBook Pro, running OS X Yosemite, v.10.10.1. I am using Apple’s Image Capture app, v.6.6, for scanning software. I am scanning some newspapers, with text and photos on the pages, which are about 11” x 14-3/4” in size. I am making multipage PDFs, each about 10 pp., at a resolution of 300 dpi. Sometimes, when I scan a single page or multiple pages, one or more tiny rectangles of scan show up in the resulting PDF, following a normal page or between pages. In the Acrobat Reader, this tiny rectangle shows up as a curious little box, much less than an inch on a side, and when the PDF is printed out, the tiny rectangle is printed, too, as though it were a separate page. Why is this rectangle showing up in my scans? Is there a way to keep from getting it? After it has been made a part of a multipage PDF, is there any way to get rid of it, keeping the rest of the scan?

I haven't received any replies to the question I recently posted, but one work-around that HP suggested is to use different scanning software. Instead of Image Capture, I used the HP Scan.app that came with my all-in-one printer. I haven't seen those rectangles in my PDFs since switching.

  • Creating multipage PDF problem with jpegs

I have been trying to create a multipage PDF with Pages for my photography business.  The first four pages, with a large Jpeg and some text, worked fine.  On the fifth page, when I drag my jpeg image to the page, I get weird behavior.  The image becomes pixellated and very large, partially covering the previous few pages.  The images are approximately the same size as the ones copied to the first four pages.  I even tried resizing the image to 600X400 pixels at a rez of 70, with no good results.  This is very frustrating, as I would like to get this out to a client.  Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Pages has an odd algorithm to work out the original size of the image and doesn't always get the resolution right. Usually because the original file doesn't either.
You can fix the image resolution in Preview .app, however if you work with Word Processing mode documents, Pages has a neat feature that images copied/dragged into the text area, inline will "fit" either vertically or horizontally, thus auto-sizing to the layout. Use columns to subdivide the page if need be.
You can also create a fixed size imagebox and set the image to fit that, then make it a positional:
Menu > Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder
Duplicate those and any images dropped on those will fit to the Imagebox the same way that the original placeholder did.

  • Scanning problem with HP Photosmart C6180

Since the upgrade to 10.6 my HP C6180 multifunction printer is not working as a scanner from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
I select from the acrobat menu:
    File
    CreatePDF
    From Scanner
in the "acrobat scan" window Scanner: shows "Please select a device" but there is nothing in the drop down list!
This means that i can not scan a document to PDF from within Adobe Acrobat pro. I can scan through preview but preview does not provide the same features that Acrobat Pro does.
Any Ideas? I have re-installed the adobe software but no joy...

Had scanning problem after uploading Snow Leopard -
    This will fix your problem!
Scanning with the software included in Mac OS X 10.6
New with Snow Leopard, the Scanning interface to these HP Inkjet All-in-One devices is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application. There are three ways to perform scanning from your HP All-in-One:
    Preview program
    Image Capture program
System Preferences > Print & Fax
Important: After you open the scan interface, it is important to select the correct mode ( Flatbed or Document Feeder ) for the source of the scan image. Your HP All-in-One may have an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) or a flatbed lid. By default, Document Feeder will be the automatically selected Mode for any devices that have an ADF. You must select Flatbed if you want to scan directly from the glass flatbed and not the Document Feeder.
For more information about Scanning and Image Capture, open the Help menu from Mac OS X 10.6 and type in your question.
Method one: Scan from the Preview application
Click the Apple Preview icon in the dock to open the Preview application.
From the Preview File pull-down menu, choose Import from Scanner .
Choose the HP Photosmart, Officejet, or Deskjet All-in-One.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Method two: Scan from the Image Capture application
In the Applications folder, select and open Image Capture .
In the list of devices on the left, click your HP All-in-One.
Networked devices appear in the Shared list.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Method three: Scan from Print & Fax > Printer browser
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences .
    Click Print & Fax .
In the list of printers on the left side of the dialog, select the HP All-in-One to view the options in the Print & Fax window.
Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner .
    The Printer Browser window appears.
Click the Scan icon at top right of the toolbar to launch scanning.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Important Gotcha: If the Scan or Print icons do not appear in the Printer Browser window toolbar, you need to delete the current HP printer queue and add a new one, as follows:
Close the Printer Browser window to return to the Print & Fax preference pane. Or, go directly to the System Preferences > Print & Fax pane.
Select your HP printer in the list on the left.
Click the - sign at the bottom of the list to delete the product from the list.
Click the + sign at the bottom of the list to add the product back to the list.
Select your HP printer, and then click Add to create a new print queue.
The next time you open the Printer Browser window, the Print and Scan icons should appear in the toolbar, providing access to Image Capture.

  • Import multipage pdf in an Illustrator document

    Hello,
Does a script exist to import multipages pdf document in an illustrator document ?
I usually use InDesign to import multipage document with the script named "pdf import".
The goal of the manipulation is to outline fonts, or resize the different boxes (Trim box for exemple).
An other question : can we import a ".jsx" file made for InDesign into Illustrator ?
    Thank you for your help.

Illustrator has a PDF open options object with allows for sizes height, width, boxes i.e. media art crop and page to open.
I have so far NOT tried scripting this but should NOT think its too much of a problem with the exception of knowing how
many time you need to loop to get all the pages in the PDF. The scripting guides contain a basic example too.

  • Creating a multipage PDF that prints 2 booklets side by side?

Hi I am a designer with NO pre-press experience and I need some help!
I am trying to print a booklet that is set at 8.5 x 7 as a 2 up document on 8.5 x14 paper. My problem is that I don't want the booklets to print consecutive pages (right now they would print 1,2 3,4 5,6 etc.) I want them to print side by side so that when the sheets are cut we would have 2 completed and collated books.
I know that I could just duplicate each page and print that, but I am wondering if there is a quicker way to make this happen? We have over 100 different multipage PDFs to print so I'm looking for a lean way to get this done.
Is this possible? Do I need to purchase pagination software?

When I need to do this I generally make a file set up as a single page (8.5 x 7, in this case) for easy design, then create a second, non-facing doc at two-up size (8.5 x 14) and place the pages from the first file int the second tow times so I have two copies per page. I use the Multi-page importer script for this: InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Zanelli Releases MultiPageImporter for Importing both PDF and INDD Files

  • Placed Multipage PDF crop to preset

I'm repeating the same actions over and over with many, many files into many, many documents and thought I'd ask to see if anyone could help to speed me up by removing one repetative step.
I'm placing multipage PDFs into an indesign document.
    For example:
page 1 of multipage PDF goes on page 13 of the INDD
page 2 of multipage PDF goes on page 14 of the INDD
page 3 of multipage PDF goes on page 15 of the INDD
page 4 of multipage PDF goes on page 16 of the INDD
Every single time I go to place the document I have to select the page to place (this seems reasonable) but also the crop to, which is always "bounding box" whereas I always want "Media".
Is there any way to fix this option to media?
I don't want to split the PDFs into separate pages as I don't have all the fonts and by splitting them the fonts are no longer embedded. Also, each of the documents has varying different fonts so chasing them all down would be an expensive nightmare.
I'd be interested to hear how other forum members would tackle such a task!

It shouldn't be changing like that. Try trashing the prefs. See Replace Your Preferences
I've been working on this issue and trashing prefs hasn't fixed it. The other problem I was experiencing is also back (show baseline grid shortcut not working).
    I've tried the following:
    Manual trash of prefs
Trash prefs using the cmd-alt-ctrl-shift starup option
Removed every utility I could find, rebooted and trashed prefs again
Interested to hear if there are any utilities known to mess with InDesign

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.3 crashes PDF scan using Presto Scan Buttons

Following an automatic update from 10.1.2 to 10.1.3 on 12/4/12, Presto scan buttons crashed every time I tried to scan to pdf using the default setting of text under image.  If set to image only It worked.  After much email discussion with NewSoft, we determined that the crashes had only begun after the Adobe update.
I couldn't establish why there would be a connection, since the scan to pdf should open in Presto Page Manager before being passed manually to AR10.  The scan button applet was crashing before Page Manager opened
I have now unistalled AR 10.1.3 and installed AR 10.0.1 and Presto now works fine again.  Is there a setting in 10.1.3 that I have overlooked or is there something seriously wrong with the update?
    Pete

    Hi,
With respect I'm not convinced by your response. Presto Scan Buttons and indeed Page Manager has worked perfectly since it was installed in November 2011 and updated during 2012.  as far as I'm aware it worked fine following the AR 10.1.2 update.
I run two different PC's, one, Win 7 Pro, the other Win 7 home Premium.  Following the AR 10.1.3 update on 12/4/12, Presto PDF scan button crashes consistently on both.
The problem is caused when using the Presto default setting of text under image.  Using image only works fine.
NewSoft say it's not there fault, their program worked fine prior to your update.  Frankly I have to agree.  I downgraded to Ar 10.00 and I had no problems.  as soon as I installed the AR 10.1.3 update again Presto crashed again.
The issue is related to the way in which the image is handled.  There are 3 settings; text and image, text under image and image.  Only image works.  AR 10.1.3 must have affected this.
    Please reconsider your response.
    Kind regards
    Pete

    Hello,
I think you answered the question yourself. You upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and now the scanner isn't working as it should.
You need to update the Brother drivers. Go to their web site, download and install the software, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
Since you are trying to scan into Adobe software, there might be a TWAIN driver necessary to update.

  • Multipage PDF and Smart Object

I'm using Photoshop CS5, and I regularly need to import a multipage PDF into a PSD for processing.  I've setup multiple smart objects in the PSD, each imports a different page of the PDF.  But I've realise that everytime Photoshop imports a multipage PDF, it imports and saves the entire PDF, rather than just the page imported.  This is extremely wasteful for both disk space and processing power/time, especially since the files I work with are all rather large.
So, is there a way to make Photoshop handle this smartly, and make use of multiple PDF pages in one import operation?

I do three things in Photoshop:
    1. add background
    2. apply a glow around the imported vector graphics to enhance visibility
    3. apply an texture overlaying the whole thing
And I forgot to mention before that, in addition to printing, I also need to save the final images into individual JPGs or PNGs for digital preview.
    1. I can do in Illustrator, but I've found that adding any raster content in the AI significantly increases the file size and slows all operations.  So I'm trying to avoid doing this.
    2. and 3. can also be done in Illustrator, but I've found the results to look much better in Photoshop.  Not sure why, it just does...
But even if I do all of these in Illustrator, it does not solve the problem of extremely long operation time, since I will still need to eventually export the artboards into separate files.  Illustrator does the same thing as Photoshop when exporting: it rasterizes the entire file and then cut them down to each artboard, which, again causes the operation time to grow exponentially as artboard increases.
    EDIT:
I have also tried exporting the rasterized image as one single image, and then slice them up in Photoshop.  Unfortunately, the AI file is so big that Illustrator cannot export them as one rasterized image.
I also prefer to minimize batch operations in Illustrator.  A long batch operation in Illy will prevent me from doing anything for tens of minutes, whereas I can continue to work on different things in Illustrator while Photoshop is running a batch operation.

What is it that you can not see in Reader: button behavior, rollover effect,
    hyperlink, etc. ?
Wow, I am impressed about the fast reaction:-)
The interactive function I am using (unfortunately in German inDesign) is
"button" > Action: by letting go (?). It's a file with some 100 pages and
some 500 links. Exported as pdf interactive...
The effect In AcrobatPro: when clicking on the thumbnail the original
picture shows in a separate window without closing the original file. After
closing the new window, I could continue in the multipage file...
This is not happening in Adobe Reader. It says: the link was not found, and
here and then, when shown in e new window, the multipage file is closed...
    Hope this helps..
    Thanks Jaro
    PS
I did reply on the forum directly, but no success. There trying via mail.
    Hope it works:-)

  • In LIVECYCLE DESIGNER how do I code a submit button to only submit one page of a multipage PDF

I have a multipage PDF I've designed in Livecycle and have print and submit buttons on each unique form in the document. I am able to create code (which I've copied from someplace) that allows only one page to print but when I click the submit button it wants to submit the entire document.  PS - I created the Submit from the blank button and have it set to submit PDF not XML.

I don't think you can submit just a page of your PDF like you printed just a page. The difference is that when you print, the PDF becomes dots on paper, while when you submit a PDF it must remain completely intact to be machine readable, especially since the forms on a LiveCycle (XFA) document can have complex dependencies between pages.
