Multiple Accounts, one computer, one itunes

I have tried to research this in help without success! I am wondering if my wife, 3 children, and myself can all have our own itunes account, but continue to share all purchases in the same itunes folder, and if this is possible, how is this accomplished. I understand I can make account for my children who cannot get a credit card using a allowance, but can their purchases go into my itunes folder, so my wife or I can also use the music they purchase with their allowance? If any one can help, thank you tons!!

I believe iTunes can only authorize to one account at a time. So it is best to make ALL purchased on the same Apple account. This is not to say that you can not each have your own library and make purchases from your own library. You just need to make sure you authorize each library to the same iTunes account for purchasing.
Although now that I think about it, with ALL iTunes tracks being "Plus" (DRM free) I guess it doesn't really matter any more. Anyway...
There are a few ways for all accounts to use the same downloaded music. One is to simply copy the new tracks from the account that purchased it and then add the track to each library as needed. This will make a new copy in each library so if you guys buy a lot of stuff it could end up being a bit of storage space wasted. Since you would have five libraries I assume, you could end up with 5 copies of each track you buy.
Another is to put the purchase track in a shared folder and then change your iTunes preference on each account to NOT copy to the iTunes folder, add the tracks to your libraries, then change the preferences back. This would make the libraries all use the same media file from the shared folder. But it requires a bit of manual work each and every time you want to add new tracks to all the libraries.

  • Multiple accounts, one computer

We have several family members using itunes, with several different ipods. We would all like to purchase tunes from the itunes store with independent sources - credit cards, gift cards etc. When a gift card is enabled, it remains active until fully used.
How do we either create several accounts on one computer or allow the switching between payment methods or alternatively, more than one itunes account on the same computer???

The easiest way to manage this all may be to have individual Windows accounts for everyone. That way every family member will have his or her own iTunes library, iTunes Store account, etc.
If for some reason you all need to share a Windows account, then you can have up to five different iTunes Store accounts on your computer at a time. Each family member will have to log into his or her Store account using the Log In button at the upper-right of the iTunes Store window to make a purchase, and then log out when he or she is done purchasing. Each account will have it's own payment method (credit card, gift certificate, allowance, etc.) and will not impact the other accounts.

  • Two user accounts, one itunes, and updating apps

This may be just a rant, but perhaps somebody has some ideas for how to fix this.
My wife and I both have iTunes accounts, and we have material, including apps, from both accounts on our main home computer.
Frequently, the Apps icon shows that there are 'updates' for the various Apps. Like a fool, I click on the button and see what updates there are. So far, so good.
When I try to download updates, though, I have all sorts of issues. The most common is that it says something like 'sorry, bozo, these updates are for the other account, not the one your logged into right now. log into the other account and come back.'
That's the kind of thing that is just a plain stupid pain. Why in the **** can't it just keep the account information available and just download the blasted updates? I don't want to have to log into other accounts. I don't have to when I download updates on my iPhone (which also has some apps from both accounts) – why do I have to do it in iTunes?
    Bleep, bleep, BLEEEEP!
It does a bunch of other things that are equally (or more) stupid, too. Sometimes, it gives me a message that I "can't update this software since I have not owned the major version of it". I'm guessing that this is related to the account thing, too.
iTunes people: For the love of Pete, please, please, make the multiple accounts on one iTunes feature more user(s) friendly.
Everybody else: please tell me if there is some sort of secret trick for making all these problems go away.

I still think this is stupid. Maybe I'm one of a small minority that has more than one iTunes account active in a single iTunes library? Or is this a common situation?

  • Two Accounts, One iTunes

I have two different accounts activated on my iTunes. This makes it difficult using my iPhone because I have to be logged in as the right account for ringtones and app updates. Is there anyway I can merge the two into one?

This is the iTunes for Mac forum.
You should be in iTunes for Windows.
Don't install iTunes for each iPod, It only needs to be installed once on the computer.
If you wan to use completely different libraries/music, create separate XP user accounts.

  • Two iphones different accounts one itunes library?

My wife and I each have an iphone 4 each with its own apple account.  Can I sync both phones in itunes on a Windows PC using one itunes library.  We share the same media files.  Do I have to set up two Windows user accounts and two different libraries?
I also have an ipad which uses the same apple account as my iphone, and I am able to sync both devices using one itunes library and one Windowws account.

    yes.
How will she access "my" iTunes library from her account?
you can authorize iTunes on her user account to play/use content purchased with your iTunes store account and vice versa.

  • 2 iPhones, 2 different users, multiple computers, ONE itunes library?

I have one big itunes library that stores both my wife's music and my own music and common music.
My wife has her own laptop and her own desktop computer
I have two laptops and one desktop computer
Our itunes library is on my desktop.
Is it possible for her to sync her iphone with her own playlists, music, videos, pictures and for me to have my own separate playlists, music videos and pictures?
If yes, how do I do this because I've searched and read other posts but I am still not clear.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Two user accounts, one iTunes library

    Hello,
trying to solve problem with sharing one itunes library on macbook pro (mid 2009) between two users. I moved all itunes folders to shared folder, open itunes on new account with alt key, choose library and seems to be working. However it isnt...on my account I did the same, worked sometimes. After a qwhile I recognized that i cant use both accounts simultaneously. Once I log in to new account and open itunes and then I just switch users (not logging off) and try to open itunes, the first picture warning appears...I include also pictures with sharing preferences which should be OK.
Any ideas how to solve this?
Once I log off from account, it starts working with other one. But wioth simple switching users, it doesnt work (or rarely:-/)

  • Multiple accounts with the same iTunes???

I'm looking at getting my wife the iPod Nano. I have the iPod 20GB Color Display. If she has the iPod Nano does iTunes allow you to have two separate accounts within the same iTunes so you we have our own sets of music? Or would we have to have two separate iTune accounts loaded on two different computers?
I'm looking at transferring all of my music to an external harddrive so maybe my wife can have hers all on the laptop. Not sure what's the best thing to do. Anyone had experience with this?
    Thanks.

  • Apple tv under multiple account, same computer

I have the apple TV connected under my account log in. My daughter purchased a movie under her account log in. How do i get the movie (from her account log in) to the apple TV (under my account log in)?
Same idea applies to the photos in iphoto under different log in accounts.
    THank you!
intel based iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

An Apple TV cannot sync to a sleeping or shutoff computer; the computer must be on and iTunes must be running. In the case of two accounts on the same computer, I've not seen whether that will work or not, but if it can, it would have to be using Fast User Switching and iTunes would have to be running in her account.
You might instead just want to copy the movie from her iTunes library to yours (copy it first to a shared location like the Shared folder in the Users folder, then just drag it into the iTunes window under your account) and then authenticate your iTunes to her iTunes Store account. Then you don't have to worry about syncing or sharing with multiple accounts on the same system.

I have ipod touch, When you register the ipod Touch give it a unique name. I have also connected all three at same time unless there is an issue I have missed I have had no problem. YOu can also set an option so that when you connect the device itunes will not start and then you can manually start it and choose the device you want to upgrade..etc.

  • Multiple computers, one iTunes account... how to consolidate?

I have three computers: Power Mac G5, iBook G4, Mac Mini.
I access and buy songs from iTunes from all three computers.
I update my iPod only from the G5.
So, is there a way to copy the songs I purchased from the iBook and Mac Mini onto my main computer (G5), so that I can sync to my iPod?

  • Two user accounts one Itunes Music Folder, How do I keep the Libraries sync

Okay let's see if I can explain my dilemma properly. My girlfriend shares my computer with me, so I gave her a seperate account to keep her stuff in. However I keep all our music on an external hard drive in the iTunes music folder. The problem is everytime I upload new music or delete something on my account/ iTunes library, It doesn't update the iTunes library on her account. Therefore I have to sign in to her account to update her library with new music or delete tracks that have been removed from the Music folder. Kinda a minor thing until you upload 5 new CD's and remove like a 100 old tracks/podcasts, then it gets to be very annoying and time consuming. So is there anything I can do to sync our libraries to the music folder when changes are made? Hope I explained that well, and thanks for your help in advance!

As both libraries are the same you're wasting disk space, so have only one library - yours and enable sharing on it.
You need to be looged in and iTunes running, she will enable 'look for shared libraries' in her Preferences... and your library will show up.

  • Multiple ipods one itunes; repeat registering

I had a ipod that just died. I am adding a new one to my computer at the same time I happen to be setting up my kids for christmas gifts. I have done the multiple libaries fine however now when I plug each on in to make updates itunes asks me to register the ipod again! I have registered each one at least three times now. Any advice??

I've seen this mentioned on the iPod forum a few times. The advice there was to click on "never register" and that seems to have helped some people.
