Multiple AIA instances on same server?

Hi,
Does anyone know how to install multiple AIA instances on the same SOA server? The installer hints that this might be possible, although I have not seen how this is done because the installer expects an empty oracle home path. The only information I have found so far is for an earlier 2.x release of AIA and that suggested:
"Each SOA installation must be in his own ORACLE_HOME directory.
Each AIA installation must be in his own ORACLE_HOME directory.
You must point to different databases. You can not have mulitple SOA schema's in one sinlge database."
Is this true?
Thanks,
Kev.

Hi Laxman,
If its a testing purpose its ok to have a one oracle_home and single listener for multiple DB. One problem when applying oracle patches for one of the instances running in a multiple DB running then you need to bring all the DB running in that host since the oracle_home is sharing between all db instances.
Thanks
Sunil Rajesh K.C.Starting with 11g, patchset updates are full installs and done into a new home. This makes it possible to migrate one instance at a time. However, your point would be a consideration for one-off patches like CPUs.
However, please note ... OP --- PLEASE NOTE even with multiple oracle homes, you still only need a single listener.

    Yes you can but:
Each SOA installation must be in his own ORACLE_HOME directory.
Each AIA installation must be in his own ORACLE_HOME directory.
You must point to different databases. You can not have mulitple SOA schema's in one sinlge database.

  • DataGuard - multiple standbys on the same server

DataGuard - multiple standbys on the same server
I have my primary database on one server and I have 2 physical standby databases on another server. Is it possible to configure it so that the archive logs are pushed to the backup server only once? Can they be written to a single location on the backup server and accessed by both standby databases?

Justin... Hold on !!! it seems that user is asking for test, not for real scenario.
Anyways, it could be possible without mentioning undocumented parameters. You just need to enable log_archive_dest_n and log_archive_dest_state_n parameter and configure tnsnames so you can mention service there.
Pls. check and revert back if I am wrong here.
    Cheers !!!

Personally, I would be suprised if you could get two
standby databases to run on a single failover machine
without resorting to some of the unsupported
parameters that are required to get a primary &
secondary running on a single machine for development
purposes. I can't imagine how two standby databases
could pull archived log files from the same directory
and apply them at completely different times.
Generally, you would want your failover system on a
different machine than the reporting system since
    they serve relatively different purposes.
Alternately, have you looked at using a logical
    standby to serve both purposes?

  • WIll multiple instances on same server use same SA by default?

I have a SQL server on which I've created a second instance using Windows authentication. I never created an SA account or password during installation of the new second instance.
In Security > Logins, I see SA. Is this the same account as the one in the other instance. I don't know the other instance's password, so if I change it in the new instance will it be changed in the previously existing instance as well?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi,
SA account will be created as a part of the SQL install and we don't get to specify a passowrd while installation when windows authentication is chosen. This is the reason why the SA is disabled if you check in the mgmt studio after SQL installation. Try
logging in using the admin account that you have provided for the SQL server instance during the Sql install, This will allow you to enable the SA account and you can change the password.
This won't let you to login using SA acount unless you have changed you authenticaion mode to  MIXED @ Security tab on Server properties. Restart of the instance is required to bring this change into effect. Now you can login using SQL authentication
specifying the SA account and password.
No SA accounts on different instances of SQL server are same. They are unique per instance and changing the password on one SA account for an instance doesn't have any affect on the others.
    Hope this helps,

  • Running multiple agents on the same server

Has anyone run multiple instances of essbase on the same server, using the agentport command? If so, how well did it work and what do you think about running it in a production environment? Thanks alot!

I have tested it, but the documentation does not recommend using this feature in production. You can achieve the same thing with creating test applications/databases.Also, when you run 2 instances of the agent on one box, you must modify the essbase.cfg of the client machine to indicate which instance (port) that client will connect to.Regards,Jade------------------------------Jade ColeSenior Business Intelligence ConsultantClarity [email protected]

  • Running Multiple JVM's on same Server has OutOfMemory - PermGen Errors

I have a scenario where I have 2 application servers. One is running one JVM and the other is running multiple JVMs.
    Both are configured with:
    -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC
    -XX:+UseParNewGC
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
    -XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled
    -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled
The server that is running with only 1 JVM runs stable, however the server that is running multiple JVMs has frequent crashes due to OutOfMemory - PermGen errors. The only other difference is the Heap size. 512mb for each JVM on the app server with multiple instances and 1GB for the server with 1 instance. Is there a relationship/settings that need to be tuned when running multiple JVM's on the same server to avoid this?
    Thx

The only other difference is the Heap size. 512mb for each JVM on the app server with multiple instances and 1GB for the server with 1 instance. This isn't a trivial difference. Basically you're saying "When I give the server 1 GB then it's okay but when I give it 512 MB it's not okay." If I saw those symptoms I would take them at face value to start with.
So, turn off one of those servers on the machine that has two. Don't change anything else. Testable prediction: That won't fix your problem.

  • Multiple browser instances receiving same session ID

I am using Firefox with OC4J, and I've discovered that multiple simultaneous instances of the browser are receiving the same session ID. This is a pretty serious problem I beleive, as it prevents the ability to safely store one browser instance's state information safely in the session. In other words, one browser instance's behavior can stomp on another browser instance's state data.
Does anyone know what criteria OC4J is using to determine session IDs, and whether to create a new session or deliver an existing one?
    Thanks,
    Brad

    Tugdual,
Another comment -- the case where the cookie does not exist or is expired isn't the problem. The problem is when the cookie is valid and another browser instance is opened. Since the browser instances access the same cookie, you have no way of knowing on the server side that you are actually talking to two different browser instances. Hence, any storage of state information that is contextual has the potential to be stomped on by the other browser instances.
In my case, one browser instance (the result of a new window spawn in a UIX page) was knocking over the original window, because it was overwriting some important state infomration.

  • 2 Portal Instances on Same Server

I am trying to create a second portal instance in a separate database on the same server. The 9iAS lives on another server. I have already successfully got the first portal up and running with web browser access. However, I'm not sure how to get the second portal up and running with that ssodatan script.
I tried specifying a separate port (7778) in that script and started a second port listening in httpd.conf, but this doesn't work. I also tried specifying a separate port and separate url (like portal302 and portal302_sso) in the http parts of that script, but this didn't work either.
Each portal has it's own login server installed, so I don't want to associate both portals with a single login server.
    Can someone help me??? Thanks.

    Kathryn,
Presumably you installed both Portal instances in different schemas (i.e. Portal30 and Portal309 etc.). If so, then all you will have to do is run the ssodatan script against each, referencing the exact http address for each. Once you have done this you should be able to contact both from the same http port (i.e. port 80) by referencing them in the URL (i.e. http://www.foo.com/pls/portal30 and http://www.foo.com/pls/portal309.

  • Multiple Database Instances on Single Server and effect of NLS_LANG

What is the effect of the NLS_LANG registry setting on a Windows server that is to host multiple database instance each created with a different database character set ? The server needs to support data in the following languages : Thai, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Vietnamese and Korean. Selecting the Unicode character set(AL32UTF8) is not an option since the application is not Unicode complaint.
My understanding is that as long as NLS_LANG is set correctly on the client connecting to the particular database instance then the data will be stored correctly - is this correct ?
What should NLS_LANG be set to on the server if there are multiple oracle instances with different character sets ?

My question is not in relation to connecting to the database on the server itself but with regards to client connections. What I need to know is what is the effect of the NLS_LANG setting in the registry on a server that has multiple databases each created with a different character set ?
Say for instance, the server has two databases - one created with the character set ZHS16GBK and the other created with the character set JA16SJIS and NLS_LANG is set to SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK in the registry on the server. Will Japanese data that is inserted into the database that has character set JA16SJIS be stored correctly when it is inserted from a client with NLS_LANG set to JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16SJIS even though NLS_LANG is set to SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK on the server ?

It appears to be possible, at least in IDM 7.1
The release notes and Installation guide reference a setting called waveset.serverId that you set in your application server startup script like so:
    -Dwaveset.serverId=Name
This would allow each JVM to identify itself differently from any others running on the same physical server.
I haven't tried this yet myself, so caveat emptor.

  • Multi instances on same server

    Hi,
I would like to know whats the best approach to install a second oracle instance on a single server.
We have one database instance running on a window 2000 server. We take this instance down (stop the oracle window service) and perform cold backup of all the datafiles.
We want to put another database on the same box, but if we put this 2nd db on the same instance, it will become un-available during cold backup. We need to keep the 2nd db running.
So the only way I can think of is to install a 2nd oracle instance to house the 2nd database.
Would it be as sample as installing oracle for the 2nd time on the same server, but with different sets of oracle home and SID?
    thanks
    Carlton

This is a production server, but the database are for DW / DSS. So there isn't much OLTP happening, the only writes are on weekly basis but in the range of 200GB+ during data re-load / re-fresh I would agree then, no need for hot backup.
Evaluate your current resource consumption, before creating a new instance to determine if you need more ram/cpu/drives beforehand.
If you determine you do not have the resources to run both instances optimally, then you may want to change your backup strategy (backup once after a dataload or hotbackup) or add resources (remember addition cpus mean additional licenses) or get a seperate box.

  • Multi instance on same server

This is my first experience trying to load and set up Oracle from the dba point of view and I need some guidance. I have started having problems when loading 9i on the same server as the 8.1.7 instance. It wanted to overwrite files and was using the same ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE for some files as I used in the 8.1.7 install, which I don't want since the products are loaded in different directories. Wherever possible, I specified a different HOME and BASE but apparently Oracle has a few places where it doesn't ask.
My intent: the database is in 8.1.7, no immediate intent to upgrade. Huge db. I am creating a 9i instance on the same Sun server to support iFS and a small subset of the data from 8.1.7. iFS will check the 9i table, create some xml id files that correspond to the records in the 8.1.7 db. There'll be views and a link between the instances to support fast refreshes to keep them in synch.
I think my problem lies in the file structure and where the profiles are. My .kshrc file references an application shell for the environment setup near the top of the file structure. That shell needs to support both environments or be split I think.
Can anyone suggest a file structure to support both installations without conflict and where the shell should be and how to implement it so I don't have conflicts?
    thanks
    Pat

the jury is still out to a degree, but i think we've identified the culprit(s) of our session bleed for anyone interested.  it boiled down to two problems.
    1.  var scoping issues.  unfortunately this was a fairly old application, written before we strictly employed best pracitices on var scoping variables within functions in all our cfc's.  we've fixed the bad code and our session bleed problems seemed to have stopped.  there is a great utility for checking code for var scoping problems available at: http://varscoper.riaforge.org/
    2.  a misunderstanding of how cflock with a timeout setting (and no throw on error)  behaves.  aside from session bleed, it turned out we had another issue in there, which was expected session values missing all together.  the crux of the problem is that we had set our cflock read/write timeout's to 30 seconds.  under the extremely heavy load, requests were routinely exceeding those timeout thresholds.  the locks were not set to throw on error, so when the timeout threshold was exceeded, the code within the lock ended up just being skipped.  this was leading to missing data in the session. temporarily we've simply increased the timeout setting to a large number, which has fixed our problem.  eventually we'll set these locks to throw on error and handle the exception in a more graceful manner.
    hope this helps someone.

  • Multiple Apps on the same server

Hope you can help and point me in the right direction.
I am managing a CF internet based application built using CF
6.1 and which talks to a MS Access 2K dB. The app is running on a
MS Windows 2K Adv Server, IIS [with a SSL cert.] and CF 6.1 Std
    Server.
I now need to run a second separate application on the same
    server.
    My questions are:
    1. Is this possible?
    2. If yes to 1 can anyone point me in the right direction as
to configuring IIS and CF to run the second application? This
second app will also require a SSL.
    TIA, K

First off run as far and fast away from using Access for your
DB back end as possible. Access isn't meant for this kind of work.
Next, you'll need to setup a new virtual server (with its own
    dedicated IP address) in IIS.
Configure your new server to its new web root and optionally
    reconfigure your log files.
Create a new CSR with all the right information and send it
to your SSL creator. Pay for cert with them, and wait for it to
come back. Install new cert and optinally reconfigure the site to
    force SSL where necessary.
Add any necessary data sources in the ColdFusion admin
If your root config stuff for CF was setup correctly
everything should just magically work (tm).

  • Problems with Sent mail and multiple accounts on the same server

I have 2 different email accounts that are on the same server. Regardless of the account from which I send the email, all of the sent messages end up in the same sent folder. Is there a way to force the sent messages to go into their correct Sent folder?

In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post, to let me see the names of the files and folders present at the root level of the Mail folder.
Before actually posting that information, you may edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you wish to keep private, e.g. you may replace any real username with "username" to hide your real email address if you wish; similarly, you may disguise any domain names you don't want to be revealed. Try to be consistent in how you disguise those details, though, as we may need to refer to them in subsequent posts.
Now, go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. With that folder open, repeat the process to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains. Again, you may disguise any mailbox names you wish to keep private. Be careful to not alter any suffixes, though.
Finally, for the two accounts involved in the problem, locate the account folders within ~/Library/Mail/ -- their name begins with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. For each account folder, repeat the process to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.
