Multiple airport express plug-ins with i-tunes- lose sound after 4 songs

I have 3 airport express units, a MacBook and 24" IMAC G5 and my music library on a LaCie external hard drive. I have all the latest updates for the airport software on my computers. Now for the problem
I want to play my i-tunes library, it is over 500G in multiple locations throughout my house. I play from my I-Mac. All airport express connects to my linksys router network. I get inconsistent results when I play my music to multiple locations. After several songs play I have to go back to my computer and repress the speakers to play even though my imac shows the music playing I get no sound.
This could be because of a simple setting on my i-mac, I hope so. My energy savings for my screen goes off with inactivity after 15minutes. I changed that to an hour yesterday with no avail. I would love to have my music playing throughout my house on a consistent basis. Please help.

I forgot to also mention that I use the "interference robustness" feature on my IMAC. I have tried it both ways with the same unhappy results.

  • Airport Exreme - Airport Express droupout with multiple Airport Express sta

I have multiple airport express's, an iMAc, a Airport extreme router, all software/firmware to current release. If I play on the iMac and one set of remote speakers, no problems, once I add two airport express stations with iTunes, I get the dropouts. Any ideas. I have already got rid of wds, changd channels, tc. to no avail.

I have the same set up and had the same issue and a guy at apple support gave me a tip to try and it worked!. First remove all the expresses from the power outlets keeping your airport extreme running. I also recommend using a different channel say 11. and use ap grapher
    http://www.chimoosoft.com/products/apgrapher/
to see if your network looks like it's running well after you resetup your everything or before you bother doing this. I found my audio gear was really messing with my airports bandwidth and when I moved it to a new spot ap grapher showed I was getting a nice steady 54mbit/sec.
So again unplug the expresses and keep the extreme up and running.
You must first do a reset on the airport express by pushing in the little white button on the bottom with a paper clip for a few seconds, but you should check out how to reset the airport express via apple's web site because there are 2 types of resets one with it plugged in and one with it not. Not sure which is right reset method so check that yourself.
Once you have reset it you want to set the first express to extend your preexisting airport extreme network using the airport setup utility. If you have two expresses you may only need to do this to the last one in the chain but it can't hurt to reset them all form scratch.
Once the first express is up and running you then unplug the airport extreme from it's power outlet. Then you go to set up the 2nd express after you reset it and here lies the trick. You extend the 2nd express off the first express without the extreme involved. Then you plug in the extreme back into the power and bingo you have tricked the express #2 to extend from the first express and they wind up with new ip numbers like 10.0.1 and 10.0.2. Instead of them competing for signal using the same ip address they now have their own individual ip address, it turns it into an extension chain. If that makes sense I don't know what the tech terms are for this but it did cure my issues of dropouts I thought it was odd that they had the same addresses so it makes sense that they should have their own.
Micro wave ovens cause drop outs and so do some wireless phones but you can always check on your signal using AP grapher. I found that when I walk around with my MacBookPro in my house that the expresses really don;t have much of a range so if they are really far apart that could also be an issue. I'm sure the N versions are much better and I am thinking about upgrading.
Hope this helps cause it sure took a long time to type:)

  • I am currently using the Airport Express to work with a Bose Wave radio.  3.5 MM jack out and phono connectors into Bose.  Is there a way to hook to a new Bose Wave which does not have phono input plugs?

I am currently using the Airport Express to work with a Bose Wave radio.  3.5 MM jack out of the Express and phono connectors into Bose.  Is there a way to hook to a new Bose Wave which does not have phono input plugs?

The latest Bose Wave SoundTouch music system still uses a single 3.5 mm analog Aux port. You would connect the two using an analog audio cable with 3.5 mm stereo jacks on either end.
An example cable would be located here.

  • Connection problems when I use multiple Airport Expresses

I have one Mac that I use to stream music to multiple Airport Express's. Its seems that when I connect to 3 expresses things work fine. If I connect to 4 the sound cuts out on all speakers.
Is 3 the limit or am I doing something wrong?

    Yes you can but....
With the apex in the ceiling you may get a signal loss from your main wireless system. To be able to do what you want in a whole home sound system they all need to be on the main wireless system. You also have to plug them in to a wall outlet which may be an issue with your fire regulations with them inside the walls/ceiling. With airplay you have some limitation also. If she has an ios device and likes say pandora she can only do it to one set of speakers/APex. Only itunes from a computer can do multiple/house party sound. I have 2 APex in my house and love them all. If your main wifi is out of range for some of the new APex's you can run 1 cat5/6 (APex is 10/100)  and make a new network and bridge the rest to it. As long as your new wire is connected to your main network you will stay on the same network.
So now you get sound and a roaming wifi through out the house. (that's what I did but not in the ceiling.)
Sonus are good but $$$. by then rewire!

  • Airplay won't connect to my Airport Express & is intermittent with Airport Utility

    Hi
Yesterday, my iTunes 10 stopped connecting via Airplay to my Airport Express. It spent a long time displaying a Connecting message, then finally gave me this error message: "An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device AirPort Express”.
    I have a Macbook Pro 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5 (6 months old). 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
    Running OS X 10.7.5.
My main modem/router is a Livebox and I usually going my Airport Express to the Livebox network to play music.
    My Airport Express is 802.11g
All my equipment is within a radius of 2 or 3 feet.
I'm aware of at least one other recent thread about this problem (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4150757?tstart=0), but none of the solutions suggested have resolved my problem, so I have summarized a list of the actions I have so far taken to try and resolve the problem. Hopefully, this will help others sort this issue out for themselves.
    ACTIONS TO SOLVE ISSUE
    1. Ran Airport Utility 6.1, which was unable to find my AX.
    2. Downloaded, installed & ran Airport Utility 5.6. AU 5.6 still couldn't find my AX, giving me this error message:
"AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. Make sure the AirPort wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
    3. Unplugged the AX and did a hard reset. AU found my AX and I configured it to join my Livebox network. After being configured, the green light came on the AX, which also appeared on the AU list of devices. However, AU still had the message "Waiting for Airport Express to reset…" with a spinning ball for several minutes. So, I closed the AU window (as AU advised), and reopened it. Happily, the AX was still listed.
    4. Reopened iTunes and tried to select my AX as speaker output. At that exact moment, the AX vanished from the AU list of devices and, after the long wait, iTunes gave me the same error message as before:
"An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device AirPort Express”.
When I tried to rescan for devices in AU, I got the same error message:
"AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. Make sure the AirPort wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
    5. Hard reset and configuration of AX. This time I didn't close the AU window, I waited for the AX to reset. When the spinning ball finally vanished, I got this error message:
"An error occurred while reading the configuration. Make sure your Apple Wi-Fi base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)"
    6. Apple help pages suggested updating the AX firmware. I downloaded the firmware update, did the AX hard reset/configuration routine, then tried to run the firmware installer and got this error message:
"An error occurred while attempting to communicate with the AirPort Express. (-8)"
    7. Ran all the software updates, including upgrading to iTunes 11.
    8. Spent over 5 hours doing many many hard resets of the AX, combined with iTunes restarts, MBP restarts etc. Along the way, I discovered that if I hard reset  & configured the AX, after a few minutes, AX would disappear from the AU device list without me doing anything.
    9. Attempted to change IPv6 options, using following methods:
    a. System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> TCP/IP ->   IPv6 _> Link-local only
    b. In Terminal.
    networksetup -listallnetworkservices
    networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi
Neither method had any effect on the ability of AU to see my AX.
Phew! I'm now exhausted & rather demoralised. Anyone got any other ideas?

I have been dealing with this for days now. I'm not sure what the solution is either, I've spent most of my vacation from work attempting to get it to work with my speakers and printer, none work still!!
It seems like a lot of ppl are dealing with these errors but there isn't one solid solution out there.
Try to set the AX wirless setting to "off" and only have it work for Airplay, Does it work for you?
One last thing, could this be an update problem? As in, you update your firmware/software and it renders the AX obselte. My AX is old probably a little older than 4-5 years, what about your?
I would really like to get this to work as I do not think I need a new AX to make this work.
    Let me know your thoughts.
    B.

  • Can't get Airport Express to work with Windows

I got a used Airport Express to use as a wireless print server. I got only the Airport Express; no manuals or CD's or anything. I have been reading through the manuals and everything online, but I can't get anything to work. It seems like I need to get the Airport Express Assistant, but I can't find it. I got the Airport Admin Utility, and that installed fine on Windows Vista. Then I installed what I thought was the Express Assistant, and it just seemed to change the Airport software in the start menu, but I still don't have the Assistant, only the Admin Utility. Anyway, I open the Admin Utility and it opens the Base Station Chooser. There is nothing there, so I rescan, and it seems to do nothing. It doesn't find anything anyway.
Where do I go from here? I am kind of stuck. I am trying this on a Windows Vista PC which is hardwired to a Linksys WRTSL54GS router. I have the airport express plugged in and the light is flashing Amber. I have a HP psc2410 plugged into the airport express that I would like to print wirelessly to.
    Thanks for any help.

You don't necessarily need the AirPort Setup
Assistant, you should be able to set up the AirPort
Express Base Station (AX) with the AirPort Admin
Utility...as it is a much more powerful tool. You
need to make sure that you are using the version for Windows. At this
time, the AirPort software is only supported for
Windows 2000 or XP. A Vista-version has not been
    released.
    I suggest the following...
    - First, perform a "factory default" reset on the AX to get
it back to it's original "out-of-the-box" state.
    - Next, temporarily connect your computer directly,
using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port on the
AX during the set up phase.
    - Then set up the AX as a "wireless client."
I have this same problem. I have a Vista Windows notebook and I am trying to get airport working to play music wirelessly through my home stereo. The "base station chooser" software does nothing on my Vista notebook.
I used a friend's MacBook and was able to set up the airport as a client so I can see it listed in my Dlink router DHCP Client Table. The airport express box is plugged in, has a steady green light and everything looks good except there is no option to choose "computer" or "home stereo" speakers in my iTunes. i installed the airport express CD including the itunes it came with.
Any ideas how to get this working on vista? Previously i had the newer version of iTunes 7.1 installed and the airport express CD told me it couldn't complete the install because a newer version of iTunes was installed. I uninstalled the iTunes and reinstalled the CD including the iTunes version 4.

  • I have a Cisco wireless router.  Can I buy an Airport Express plug in booster for a distant part of my house or do I need an Airport Extreme base station instead to make the Airport Express plug in booster work?

Can I buy an Airport Express plug-in wifi signal booster to connect to a Cisco wireless router, or do I have to buy an Airport Extreme base station to make the Airport Express plug-in work?

You would need either an AirPort Extreme or an AirPort Express connected to the Cisco router, with a permanent Ethernet cable connection.
Configure the Extreme or Express that is connected to the Cisco router to "create a wireless network".
Then, you could add an AirPort Express to "extend a wireless network" to provide more wireless coverage for the network that the Extreme or Express would be creating.
Remember that the Express can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives, so it must be located where it can receive a strong signal from the "main" AirPort.
If you don't need the Cisco wireless signal, you could turn it off.....or use that network for guests or something similar.
The bottom line here......you always need two Apple routers if you want to extend the network wirelessly.

  • Connecting to multiple Airport Express base stations at the same time?

I want to be able to use wireless internet and stream music to my stereo at the same time, but I only have a single internet connection behind my stereo and it's connected to the Pay TV. My options seem to be getting a new line installed behind the stereo so I can insert this into the same Airport Express base station I use for my music, or buying a second Airport Express base station and connecting it to one of the other internet connections in the room, then connecting to both Airport Express base stations at the same time.
Is this possible? Are there other alternatives?
    Many thanks

Nate, Welcome to the discussion area!
Once you have a network, you can connect multiple AirPort Express (AX) to that network (wirelessly or via Ethernet). When your computer joins that network it can access all the AX.
You could take your current internet connection and run it into an inexpensive router with multiple Ethernet ports (not the AX). If this is a wireless router then your AXs could be located elsewhere and connect as wireless clients to that network. Once you computer joined that network it could stream music to the AXs.

  • Multiple Airport Express streams?

Is it possible to have more than one Airport Express Unit receiving different signals from different iOS devices? E.g. My iMac plays one track, my iPhone plays another and my iPad plays another?
I have a 4 input hub in my house powering 4 sets of ceiling speakers in various rooms and want to know if multiple Airport Express units mean I don't have to go down the Sonos route as all my music is on iTunes.
    Thanks in advance

I do this regularly. I have 5 AX units connected to various receivers around the house. I can stream to a subset of speakers from one device and have another device stream to others. I don't see why I couldn't stream five stream to these speakers.
But the big caveat is that most of my AX units are connected via a gigabit ethernet network not a wireless connection (yes I know the AX units are not gigabit, but my network is). If you were trying to do this via wireless you might quickly run out of bandwidth. This is particularly true for IOS devices. For example, I have an ipad that can stream internet radio. If you think about it the ipod  in this case has to first get the wireless signal and then send it back out to the AX, immediately doubling the amount of spectrum used compared to streaming from a device that has the music stored on it. That's probably why my internet radio app won't let me select multiple speakers the way I can with itunes or airfoil.

  • Multiple Airport Express issues revisted

I've been trying to set up multiple airport expresses. I want to wirelessly connect to two stereos and stream to both at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
So far I tried the directions below. But after following them, when I was in itunes, it would not acknowledge either AX. When I was making the suggested settings in the Airport tab, as listed below, it asked me for the name of the network. I wasn't sure what to put there though.
I can set up each on its own network, but then itunes can only find one stereo at a time.
    Thanks for you help.
For each AirPort Express Base Station (AX):
    Perform a "factory default" reset
    - (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
    Music tab
    - Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
    - Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
    - iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
    - iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
    - Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)
    - Select "Multiple Speakers" from the speaker selection at the bottom of the iTunes window.

You need to have one of the AirPort Express (AX) join the wireless network created by the other one. See KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Error Messages/Building Plug-ins with Eclipse SDK or VCExpress 2005

    Hi,
I am an newbie in building InDesign-Plugins. I have installed the Adobe InDesign Plug-in Editor on my Windows XP PC (InDesign CS3 SDK, Eclipse, JRE 1.5, Visual Studio 2005 (VCExpress Edition for C++)).
I tried to build one of the example Plug-ins with Eclipse. After startting the build process of the "transparencyeffectui"-example or the "DollyXs"-example the following message appears:
    Buildfile: F:\SDK\workspace\DollyTest\build.xml

The compiler did't start because the file "devenv.com" is missing in the "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005/Common7/IDE"-directory.
The free "Visual Studio Express Edition" is delivered withot this file.
Where can i get this file? Or is it possible to change the exec line in the built-xml-file to get the Compiler started?
So I started the VCExpress-Programm an opened the transparencyeffetui-Project-File to start the build process. But again i got an error message:

There is no "windows.h"-file in the SDK directory. I tried to include all available SDK-"inculde"-directories to the VC++ directories in the option menue in VCExpress but i got the same error message.
Any ideas how to get the plug-in build with Eclipse or Visual Studio Express 2005 (C++)?
    zaphodbeeblebroxxx

    OK, so first some background:
    1) The basic process goes like this:
    a) one release doc (edited by the developer, presumably) and the
template docs are copied to the build area
    b) Each doc is unzipped (ODT's are just ZIP files) into a subdir
    c) The doc contents are copied around; this is to allow Ant to
replace its special @VAR@ variables in the document content
    d) The docs are zipped back up into ODTs
    e) The ODTs are converted into PDFs using OOo's macro functionality
Here are the troubleshooting steps I would apply:
    1) Make sure the external.odt file exists - check the build area
(//content/build/<pluginname>/tmp/) and can be opened using normal
    OpenOffice
    2) Check that the release.odt file exists (same location) and can be
    opened using normal OpenOffice
    3) See if you can manually convert the external.odt file into a PDF -
the command we use is simply:
    soffice -invisible
    macro:///Standard.Collectors.External2PDF(${pkgdir}/tmp/external.odt)
(replace ${pkgdir} with the build directory path).
If all that works, then the Ant build process should work.
Also - what does that OpenOffice error popup say?

Currently the only thing that will connecy is the laptop and my htc phone.  All the apple products will not connect?
We went to the apple store today and it worked grand when it was plugged in - the apple products all worked.
The network comes up on ipad2 but when you press connect it says 'unable to connect'
    can anyone help us please?
    thank you

I have the same issue.  Mine fixed itself for a bit and now it's broken again.  I'm thinking it's going to be intermittently broken.  I've tried turning both devices off and on again but that did not help.

    Yes.

If that is the case, and several tries at a Factory Default Reset have not been able to free up the lockup, then it is unfortunately likely that the AirPort Express has experienced an internal electronic component failure and will need to be replaced.
