Multiple Airport for Wireless iTunes

I have one Airport Exreme connected to the internet via DSL modem. I have 3 Airport Expresses located around the house and 1 UFO Apple Base Station. What the best way to set up my network....do I join existing...extend....or WDS...? I seem to have an iTunes stutter problem.
Jim

For best bandwidth for audio streaming, you will want to configure all three 802.11n AirPort Express Base Stations (AXn) to join the wireless network provided by the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) and leave the older 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) out of the network all together.

  • Proper install for TC to U-verse 2wire to use airport for wireless in home.

I am using the U-verse 2 wire to connect to internet wireless, and ethernet, to Imac. Want to change to the TC for wireless in hopes it might be faster. How do I do that?

+Want to change to the TC for wireless in hopes it might be faster.+
If you are looking for a faster internet connection, your 2Wire is already much faster than your internet service, so adding an even faster TC will not provide any improvements as far as your internet connection is concerned.
If you are backing up to the TC using wireless, you will gain some improvement in this process.
You will need to connect the TC to the 2Wire gateway using an ethernet cable. Are you able to meet these requirements?
In addition, you'll need a second ethernet cable for configuration purposes, which will be disconnected after the TC is configured.
Post back when you are ready.

  • Networking multiple Airports for both 802.11 G and N

Frustrated with the poor signal reception for my iPod Touch at home, I’ve decided to purchase an Aiport Extreme to help boost my network. I’ve heard that “daisy chaining” can result in speed degradation. Here are the considerations I must make:
I have a two-floor house. On the upper floor I have a 2.66 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. This is where my cable modem is (Currently I get ~5Mps). Downstairs I have a networkable Blue Ray player, a Nintendo Wii (uses wifi, 802.11G), a stereo I’d like to stream iTunes through, a new Xbox 360 (uses 802.11 N wifi, or Ethernet), an older 2 GHz, Power PC G5 iMac and, finally, two iPod Touches.
The networking hardware I’ll be using is a first generation, 500 Gig Time Capsule (single band), a new Airport Express (802.11N) and a new Airport Extreme (dual band). I also have an external hard drive and a printer that i'd like to network into the mix as well.
I would truly appreciate any advice on setting things up for optimal performance (speed and range).

Hello rdesharnais. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
At least two configuration options come to mind based on your requirements:
    1) Use the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) as the "main" router; configure the Time Capsule (TC) to extend the AEBSn's 2.4 GHz radio, and configure the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) to join the extended network as a wireless client.
    2) Employing two Powerline adapters (one for the AEBSn and the other for the TC), create a pseudo Ethernet network between the two routers. Configure the AEBSn and TC into a "roaming" network. Configure the AXn to join this network as a wireless client.
The advantage of the first option? No wires. Disadvantage? Bandwidth penalty for operating a WDS network.
The advantage of the second option? No wires. You would take advantage of your home's electrical circuit to create the pseudo Ethernet between the routers. No bandwidth penalty. Ability to "roam" with any wireless device and be on the "same" wireless network. Disadvantage? Added cost of the adapters.
Ideally, for best overall bandwidth performance, you would want to connect all of these routers to an Ethernet backbone. Of course, where that isn't possible or practical, we would either use a WDS or the Powerline adapters.

  • Need advice for wireless iTunes access (have router already)

I'm having a hard time sifting through all the info to find the best solution. I have a MacBook Pro that I'll soon be upgrading to Lion from Snow Leopard, as well as an iPhone, with a second iPhone soon to enter the family. We also plan to get an iPad. We actually have an older iMac that we won't be upgrading, so we're going to move our iTunes library from the iMac over to the MacBook (basically turning the MacBook into our primary computer). We want to be able to play iTunes without having to keep the MacBook plugged into wired speakers. That seems a bit pointless.
We have a wireless router already (a D-Link), so I don't need AirPort Express to act as a router. (We have a 1 bedroom condo, really no reason to extend the network or anything like that.) We have a printer that works wirelessly with the MacBook already. All I'm really trying to figure out is the best way to set it up so that we can have iTunes on the MacBook, playing over speakers (either the ones we currently have our iMac plugged into, or our stereo speakers that we have our TV setup with). Ideally if we could do the same from the iPhone and (future) iPad, that would be great, too.
Does it make any sense for us to get an AirPort Express to do this, or would it just be more straightforward to get wireless speakers that can work over Bluetooth (like the Creative D200 ones in the Apple store)? I feel like the AirPort has the potential to be overkill for our usage, especially since I can't seem to figure out if you can use AirTunes with an iPad, and we don't need it for the wireless printing functions.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Leo! Yeah, I was confused about the 2500 series too because they push the Flex 7500 so much as the "real" solution.
Now that I'm looking in the right spot, it looks like NCS Prime Infrastructure is for the serious folks and we could probably get away without it, right? So that would leave the access points, the controller, and the basic network stuff.

  • Can I use multiple IDs for one iTunes and multiple devices

We have one family computer with iTunes, my older brother has an iPhone and I have an iPhone. A family ID was previously used to purchase songs for the family to share. My older brother has created an apple ID for his iPhone, and l have a yet unused apple ID. my brother downloaded songs etc onto the family iTunes that I would like to share, there are songs on the family apple ID that we would both like. Can you download purchases from multiple apple IDs into one iTunes  account, then sync that data onto multiple phones that each have a separate ID? Is iTunes linked to one ID? Can purchases from multiple IDs be grouped together in our family account. Also do I Actually need a separate Apple for my iPhone to prevent private messages and contacts being shared?
    Thanks for any advice

I forgot to add my iPhone is brand new and unused, and also that the iTunes account has non purchased songs on there. Can these be shared. As it is a new computer the purchases from the family ID have not been downloaded yet

  • Multiple ATVs for one Itunes account

Trying to find out if I can use, say, 4 ATVs to stream the exact song or show from one computer (one itunes account) to multiple locations? Thanks!

It's not clear from your question whether you are asking about playing the same songs or videos on all the Apple TV's in sync or just being able to access the files to play.
    The current situation is.
You can use home sharing to access files from one iTunes account on multiple Apple TV's. The only restriction here is your network speed.
In addition, using Airplay you can currently play a song and use multiple Apple TV's as remote speakers. This works very well in my experience and the synchronisation is very good. I don't see any problem with doing this on 4 Apple TVs unless you have a very slow network.
It is expected that Airplay will soon work with video as well. It seems that this will require an update to the Apple TV firmware and it's fairly likely that this will happen soon. Obviously due to video using more bandwidth, you are more likely to run into problems with the network speed if you are trying to involve 4 Apple TV's than you would with music.

  • Which Airport for wireless dialup?

I am moving and my new area does not have DSL. I will need to use a dial up service and I my Ibook G4 has an Airport Extreme card that I have been using with my DSL modem. I will need to buy an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station or the oval shaped one with a modem...Which one do I need to use my Ibook wirelessly? thanks!

You'll need the saucer-shaped Airport Extreme Base Station.

  • Can i daisy chain external drives and use multiple disks for my iTunes libraries

It's amazing how much content you can acquire. I've filled my 2TB external drive with content. I purchased another drive and daisy chained them. How do I get additional uploads to automatically go to the new drive? Itunes is indicating that the drive is "full".
Please help! I've got 6 downloads effectively "paused"

No, sorry, Time Machine can only back up to a single volume.
Short of getting a larger disk, your best bet is to back up one drive (probably the OSX drive) with Time Machine, and use a different app to back up the other one to a different drive.  See the green box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #27 for some suggestions.

  • Multiple iPods for one iTunes Library

    Hi all,
I currently have a 1st gen iPod Shuffle. I'll be getting a new Nano soon, and am wondering if BOTH iPods will be adle to use the same library.
I.e, if I plug the shuffle in and update the songs, will I be able to do the same with the Nano?
    Hope this makes sense!!
    Ben

I'm currently syncing three iPods to my one library. No problems so far. I have selected the sync only selected playlists option for all of them. This is necessary for even the 60 gig as my library is too large to fit on an iPod. I have some playlists that are for specific iPods and others that I sync to all of them. Now if I could just wean myself down to two...

  • Best itunes HD format on airport extreme wireless for macbook air unibody

    Hi,
I am setting up a system for a disabled person and just bought a new airport extreme and the new mac book air unibody to begin set up of a varied collection of ripping CDs, downloading mp3s/podcasts, video and various other sources that will rise over 100 gigs. Here are several particulars about optimizing hard drives for wireless itunes to outline needs and concerns.
    1. Is it practical or economical to use the airport extreme Gigabit Ethernet? If so, please recommend some drives/devices. The drobo fs is out of my price range for $600+ without hard drives.

    2. Will I have lag or performance issues using the usb 2.0 port with a usb2.0 hub and a usb 2.0 drive?
    3. Is a a fast RAID 0 (striped) array WD hooked up to usb 2.0 worth price and trouble?

    4. Will itunes run better if it has a dedicated drive? We also need to store other large media files on this wireless hard drive setup.
    Thanks

    Don,
I keep my iTunes library on a separate drive and I've never had a problem sharing media from it via Airport Express with other macs in my wireless netwrok. The drive I use is a Wester Digital "My Book" - it is a raid 1 set-up connected to my imac via Firewire connection. I can't remember but I think I picked it up at NewEgg or Amazon over a year ago for around $200. You can probably find better, bigger and faster drives now for the same price or less at these places or at One World Computing as well. Hope that answered your question.

  • HT5622 Have 3-yr. old i-Mac with establshed Apple ID.  Wife just got new i-Pad Air with her own e-mail address AND set up her Apple ID for it .  Both use the same Apple Airport in home for wireless.  Question:  Do we have or maintaing separate APPLE IDs f

Question:  Does new i-pad Air when set up have different Apple ID from the one set up when bought i-Mac 3 years ago?  Using same
Apple Airport for wireless when in home.  Did her new i-Pad Apple ID change the one set for the old i-Mac?

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

  • How do i set up a wireless itunes network in multiple rooms???

I'm trying to add multiple Airport express units(in different rooms), to my wireless network (internet only). I have two express units and apple TV and want to be able to play music via itunes through 1 or more, or all of the rooms!
I'm buggered if I can do it without setting up a separate network for each unit and only being able to select my Mac and that single room.
    Please help......

The usual point where setup fails (when the existing network is provided by a non-Apple wireless router) is with entry of the wireless security protocol and password - which must of course be configured identically on the wireless router and each Airport Express device. What type of wireless security are you using on your network's wireless router?

  • Multiple speakers for airport express

I'm trying to connect multiple speakers from my Itunes but I can't get it to work. I can get one or the other to work but I can't get both to work at the same time. I updated the software for A-express, still doesn't seem to work. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?
    thanks

    Hi
I have been having the same problem since I purchased an Airport Express. You can select one or the other speakers, but an error message comes up if you try and select both.
It is rather more annoying given that I have 'remote' on my iPod Touch which completely locks up if you try and change the speakers.
I have had no luck getting Apple to understand the issue - despite several emails and phone conversations with support. Ultimately I consider it to be a software development issue.
Hopefully they are reading these posts!!

  • Multiple AirPort Express speakers disappear and/or stop working on iTunes

I have three AirPort Express with iTunes boxes. They are wired to my LAN (using the ethernet port). Not to long ago I noticed that there was an update for them and I updated them to V6.3.
Things seemed to be fine. In the meantime, I just happened to notice that the latest iTunes allows me to multicast to multiple remote speakers. So, I started using this multicast (I assume it's multicast) feature to hook up to a couple of remote speakers. Everthing worked fine and has worked fine for several days.
Then this morning, I noticed that two of the remote speakers didn't show up and the third airport showed up, but had a greyed exclamation point after it and I also noticed that the speakers weren't working on that remote airport. When I unchecked the remote speaker in iTunes, it completely disappeared.
The three airport express boxes seem to be working (they're all solid green), but the remote speakers don't work. I realize that just having a solid green doesn't necesarily mean they're working, but well, that was the extent of my investigation. Anyway....
I brought up the airport admin tool and didn't really know how to reset the airport without changing something so I changed the text in the location field and updated the airport. Once I did this the remote speaker showed up in iTunes, so I reset all of the airports and this seemed to get the remote speakers to showup again. I'm sure a power cycle would work as well, but I was too lazy to walk all over the house and power cycle them.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem or is there something that I've got configured wrong?
Mac mini & Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The three most common problems encountered with mutiple AX's:
Itunes software (need 6.02 or better)
    AX firmware (need 6.3)
Firewall (you must ALLOW UDP traffic)
If all these items are met then usually what remains is configuration and/or a range problem. Since it sounds as though it works singularly, range is not the issue. Check the three most common and if they are right you are left with re-configuring the network or possibly (but unlikely based on the post) a bad unit.
