Multiple answer quiz

I have a quiz that has 6  check boxes, 5 are true and 1 false. How do I display a partial correct, like if they only get 4 right and missed the 5th. i would like to display "sorry partially correct the correct answer is 12356" but still reain the standard correct and false.
I ask this only because Captivate 5.5 only shows Correct if all 5 are selected, but if only a few are correct you get a False.
hope this makes sense.

Hello,
That is the problem I explained in one of my blog posts about reporting the score of customised questions, will not repeat it here, have a look:
Report custom questions - part 1
I published the second part already, not yet the third part where I will try to offer a solution for partial scored questions but you'll have to be aware that in that case a lot depends on the LMS as well because you will have to choose either for a correct percentage or for a correct score (with a lot of maths to do in the actions). The reason is that every scored object will have its score added to the total score and negative scores are not possible.
As for creating customised questions, last posts were about using widgets for that goal, here is a link to the list with all the posts:
Widgets and custom questions - source list
And here is a link to my list of advanced actions articles, article 4 is about customised feedback:
Articles on Advanced actions
Sorry about my laziness , started to write those articles and blog posts to be able to explain more in detail than in answers on this forum.

  • Is it possible to flip the multiple choice quiz "radio" button from left to right of the answers?

    Hello forum,
    I am using Captivate version 6.1.0.319 on a Windows 7 desktop PC and would like to know if it is possible to flip the multiple choice quiz "radio" button from left to right of the answers. I am working on a project that uses the "Require Right to Left composer" within the Global Preferences: General settings. The captions has been switched from left to right but the quiz answer radio buttons did not. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, in advance.

    Hello and welcome to the forum,
    I'm not aware of such a possibility. A workaround could be to create your own MCQ slides, using standard objects and widgets like the radiobuttons widget (there is an enhanced version created by Jim Leichliter) and advanced actions. These articles were written for previous versions, but can give you an idea about the work involved:

  • Creating a multiple choice quiz with rollover answers

    Hello, I am trying to create a multiple choice quiz question where the answer does not appear until the user mouses over the appropriate letter. I have been working on the multiple choice question slide for Captivate, but it appears I can only use text captions with static text.  If anyone knows of a workaround, or a way to add multiple choice question functionality to a blank slide I would appreciate it.  Thanks.

    Thanks I see the pictures now.  That helps a lot.  You have a great writeup on the advanced actions to make this work so I think I'll be good with that portion. I do have a couple of stylistic questions though:
    Unfortunately, having any sort of highlight color will not work with the theme I need to use.  Do you know how to remove highlighting, or make it transparent?
    I have three questions, and was able to get the three choice bubbles lined up by reshaping the widget.  Do you know of any way to increase/decrease space between the selection bubbles without reshaping the widget?  I'm concerned that when we review the course the project sponsor may ask for spacing that I can not create by reshaping the widget.

  • Multiple Choice Quiz with all possible answers weighted

    I am currently trying to create a multiple choice quiz with 29 questions nin captivate 5.5. Every question will have 4 answers similar to those on a standard survey (Strongly agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Diagree.) Dependent on the answer given I would like each answer to have a weighted value between 1-4  to give a final score which will be sectioned into 3 categories. I am able to weight a question but can't figure out how I can weight all answers per question. Any help would be grealy appreciated

    Hello and welcome to the forum
    You created custom question slides, I suppose? How familiar are you with advanced actions and variables? I published some articles and blog a lot about them. Here you'll find a list with articles, think that the first 1 of them could give you an idea how to proceed. Can you read them, and later I will try to help you if you are stuck. Will need some more details in that case about 'how I can weight all answers per question.' Moreover, do you want to report to a LMS or is the conclusion about the final score to provide feedback to the user?

  • Keynote and multiple choice quizes

    Does anyone know of a way to create a multiple-choice quiz with Keynote?
    What I mean is, can you create links from a question page (with video and text) with 4 options and then create pages responding to the users' choice...correct or incorrect... then move onto the next question page etc...?
    Is there a way to use the Hyperlinks function in Keynote for this purpose?
    I plan to export to iDVD and have an interactive quiz DVD...
    I remember doing something similar a while back with Powerpoint.
    I like to push the boundaries and see what can be squeezed out of a piece of software...

    Sorry for the late response...
    What do you mean by "I'm just saving them on my computer". Do you open the PDF with some application (which one?) and then do a save from that application?
    You can send your PDF (with the missing border) to [email protected] with a reference to this post and I can have a look at it.

  • How do i create a non-scored multiple answer question?

    Hi,
    I've tried to figure out the best way to do this in Captivate 7, but can't find an answer. I hope you can help me out as I'm stuck
    I need to create a question with 10 possible answers. They are opinions only---not correct or incorrect.
    Kind of like:
    "You are going shopping. What do you want to buy?"
    1. apples
    2. bread
    3. milk
    4. muffins
    5. flour
    6. juice
    7. pasta
    8.  dishwashing soap"
    etc.
    The learner should be able to select none, some, or all and then click submit and advance to next slide, with no feedback given. I do not need to track anything for the LMS.
    What should I use to do it? Interaction, Quiz, Survey, or Widget?
    I am pretty weak with variables, so hopefully your solution will be simple
    thanks!

    Strange... You could have a MCQ that is a survey instead of a graded question (no score automatically) with multiple answers. Delete all the feedback messages and keep the buttons you want, only Submit is really necessary, you decide for the other buttons. But then the user will have to check at least one option. Maybe you can add the option 'I don't know' or 'I cannot choose'? That will be an easy solution.

  • Multiple Choice Quiz issues

    Hello
    I just build a multiple choice quiz using Captivate 3. The
    quiz have3 right answers. I set it up so that the user has infinite
    number of attempts. However after the first try I can try the quiz
    again.
    Has anyone experienced this problem. If it's not fixable, my
    project is doomed.

    Can you restate the problem you're having? Is it that you can
    NOT try the quiz again?
    Otherwise, from what you wrote, it doesn't sound like there's
    a problem...

  • Question about Multiple Choice Quiz

    I have multiple choice quiz that I'd like make more complex. The quiz is based on a movie clip with a series of questions on different frames and the same set of answer buttons on each frame (no keyframes on the answer button layer). The user clicks a button to go from one question to the next. There’s a scoring mechanism that displays the number of correct answers (score), the total number of answers clicked (right or wrong), and the percentage of right answers.
    For each question, only the first answer counts toward the score. If you click correctly the first time, a point is added to the score and to the total. If you click incorrectly the first time, a point is added to the total only. After you give the first answer, right or wrong, you can still click on all the answers to see which answer was correct; the correct answer button changes in appearance and the correct sound cue plays but no point is added to the score or total. If you click on a wrong answer after you’ve given the first answer, the incorrect sound cue plays but no point is added to the total. In other words, you can’t help or hurt your score after clicking on the first answer, but you can determine which answer was correct.
    This all works fine.
    But now I want to make a similar exercise that has TWO questions on each frame. The answers both come from the same set of answer buttons. The question is how to preserve the “only the first click counts” mechanism for each of the two answers, since clicking on the answer to the first question will mark the frame as “answer has been given” and prevent any further scoring. There needs to be a point given for each correct answer on the frame.
    Here’s the code from an answer button in the existing quiz. How would I modify this to allow for two answers per frame?
    on (press) {
                    /* This code executes whether this is the first click on the answer button or a subsequent click. If the answer is correct (if this is frame 1 or 3), the correct sound cue plays and the answer button changes its appearance, and if the answer is incorrect (if this is any other frame), the incorrect sound cue plays */
                    if (_currentframe == 1){
                            _parent.snd_obj.playsound("correct", "cue1");
                            answer1_mc.gotoAndStop(2);
                    }else if (_currentframe == 3){
                            _parent.snd_obj.playsound("correct", "cue1");
                            answer1_mc.gotoAndStop(2);
                    }else{
                            _parent.snd_obj.playsound("incorrect", "cue2");
                    /* This code executes only if this is the first click on the answer button. It checks to see if an answer has been clicked in this frame, and if not, it marks the answer as given (so this code will be executed only once) and then adds one point to the total, one point to the score for correct answers, and re-calculates the percentage */
                    if (!_parent.answerGiven[_currentframe]) {
                            _parent.answerGiven[_currentframe] = true;
                            _parent.total = _parent.total + 1;
                            _parent.percent = Math.round((_parent.score / _parent.total) * 100);
                           if (_currentframe == 1){
                                   answer1_mc.gotoAndStop(2);
                                   _parent.score = _parent.score + 1;
                                   _parent.percent = Math.round((_parent.score / _parent.total) * 100);
                          }else if (_currentframe == 3){
                               answer1_mc.gotoAndStop(2);
                               _parent.score = _parent.score + 1;
                               _parent.percent = Math.round((_parent.score / _parent.total) * 100);
                           }else{
                               _parent.snd_obj.playsound("incorrect", "cue2");

    This is indeed a very random issue. I have seen this in earlier versions of Captivate as well. I always create my template files from the blank theme, so I don't think it is specific to the theme.
    As for solutions, sometimes changing the quality of slide to high worked, other times just reopening Captivate worked. Here are some of the solutions I have found on these forums:
    1.  Create one more answer than I need (ie for a 4 answer question, create 5 answers) and then delete answer B.
    2.  Uninstalled/reinstalled my Captivate 6 software

  • Multiple-answer multiple-choice grading

    Hello! I'm trying to create a quiz in Captivate 4, but I'm running into a bit of trouble. I'm using multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, but I'd like to grade them granularly, instead of completely. So far, if a user misses one answer, or checks just one of them that is incorrect, the entire question is counted wrong. I'd like to be able to give the user 10 points for each correct answer in the question (and possibly -10 points for each extra "wrong" answer).
    Is there any way to modify the grading for these questions other than writing my own question widget?
    Thanks! Tim

  • How can I increase the number of possible answers in Captivates short answer quiz?

    I am trying to offer a short answer question that has more than 8 possible answers (due to different spelling and punctuation possibilities). I can add up to 8 possible answers but don't know if it is possible to add more to the short answer quiz question. I'm using Captivate 5.5.
    Is it possible? How can it be done?
    Thanks

    Hope you will not be offended, but I find it very difficult to use the Short Answer question, and have all possible answers to be included. I would really like to be able for such a Question type to have the 'exact' answer replaced by this answer has to include a number of keywords. But that is perhaps only me...
    For that reason I will mostly replace this type of Question slide by a custom slide, created using the TextArea widget. Then you can check the answer to see if it includes certain keywords.
    Now for you answer: I think 8 is indeed the maximum number of possible correct answers.

  • Presenter short answer quiz problems with answer

    Hi everyone,
    it's my first time using adobe presenter. I started to make a short answer quiz and put a word i.e. "car"  in the answer field. As I read the manual the question will be correct, if the user is typing the word as answer. After testing the quiz I wonder because the will be only a right answer if the word car will be type alone. When typing a sentence i.e. I have a car this means a wrong answer for the program.
    Is there a way to tell the quiz just look out for the right word or means short answer just exactly the word in the answer cell? If I read the manual correct a complete sentence with the word must be a right answer. What's wrong?
    Thanks for your help.

    To take Leo's and Jorma's comments one step further, any time a client (or even one of our Instructional Designers) requests that kind of question type, one of the first things we do immediately is to set the question to ONE ATTEMPT and then set both the correct and incorrect feedback responses with the same identical content...so regardless of whether you got it right or wrong, the same feedback will display.
    So what this means is that the resulting feedback might say something like: "Did your answer include the following?....." and then include the correct information.
    I know that seems counter-intuitive, but one of the most difficult aspects of using the Short Answer question type is in terms of how a learner might respond.  It can be a very difficult animal to control...and although you could use the retry feedback prompt to help the learner with hints for a correct response, we've found that it's just too cumbersome to worry about.
    Additionally, any time we use Short Answer question types, we usually set it to 0 points and totally disable the the Report Answers option, so even as the learner answers this type of question, no reporting whatsoever is triggered back on the LMS, for the reasons that Leo and Jorma outlined above.

  • Quiz scoring for multiple answers

    Hi there.
    I've got a quiz with a few questions that have more than one answer. For example, a fill in the blanks with 5 blanks.
    Is there any way to have the user score 1 point per blank? At the moment if I set it to 5 points, they still score 0, even if they get 4 out of the 5 correct.
    I'm trying to do the same thing for a matching question too (1 point per correct match).
    Thanks.

    Indeed. You can 'add' that score to the Quiz total (look in Advanced Interaction panel - F9) and the system quizzing variables take into account the score obtained by those interactive objects: buttons, shape buttons, Text Entry Buttons, click boxes and interactive widgets.  Have multiple examples on my blog (some claim it is worthless, incomprehensible) of custom question slides created with standard objects where the score is obtained using interactive objects.

  • Multiple response quiz answers changing to single response

    I am experiencing a funny problem with multiple response
    questions. Sometimes when I launch a project with a quiz- the
    multiple response questions are suddenly changing to single
    respones - even the button changes from the squares - to the round
    radio buttons. I go back and check and everything is set up
    correctly - the multiple responses are all checked and it previews
    correctly.
    It seems to randomly happen only occasionally on all my
    projects - I can't recreate it as it will just happen sometimes.
    Does anyone know if this is a common problem - or how to fix
    it.
    I'm on Captivate version 2
    Thanks
    Nat

    Have you checked for any updates for Captivate 2? It could be
    a bug that an update can remedy.

  • Multiple choice with multiple answers

    Hello,
    I was wondering if someone can help me out.  I'm creating a series of tutorials useing Captivate and at the end of each one I want a slide that has the options
    a) re-run tutorial (jump back about 100 slides)
    b)go to next tutorial (next slide)
    c)return to start (jump to slide 1)
    I've had a look at the multiple choice questions in Captivate but they only seem to alow you to make one movement with a "correct" answer and I'm looking for more of a navigational tool.  Would this functionality be stored under the 'Quiz' section or somewhere else or is this function just not available in this tool?
    Thank you very much for your help,
    Michelle

    Hi there
    Notice that with the Multiple Choice question type, when you select one of the possible answers you have an Advanced button that may be clicked. You may then assign a different action for each answer selected. So answer a could jump back 100 slides, answer b could open another project and answer c could perhaps open Google.
    Cheers... Rick
