Multiple Apple ID management

I would like to get a little more info on how Apple envisions multiple Apple ID management in families and businesses.
When the IDs first appeared, they were just used to buy equipment. Since the value of the purchase was a tangible physical object, the purchase method didn't matter much. When iTunes started selling tracks, ID management became a bit more of an issue, but since the amounts involved were small and the purchases were usually personal, it wasn't a big deal. Now with the app store and more expensive purchase of both professional and personal nature, it becomes rather complicated.
Here are a few scenarios:
A business where the equipment, OS and software are tied to a business account, but the employee can use his personal account to sync his music, iOS apps, etc.
A household where the parents handle the hardware/software, but the kids have their own individual music/iApp allowance.
When I purchase a 3-license program from a software manufacturer, I can install it on any 3 machines, regardless how they were purchased. but with the app store, they must all be linked to one Apple ID.
On a related note, can you transfer a license for an app purchased in the app store (aka sell used software)?

Thanks Dah-veed.
I'm fully aware that this is a user forum, but often you get better answers from users than from Apple.
I was curious to see how other people with multiple computers/multiple users manage their Apple IDs.
To answer my own question, it's possible to install a purchased app on "any*" computer using the Apple ID used to make the purchase. So the computer does not need to be exclusively linked to an Apple ID. (* other terms restrict which computers. So the EULA is more restrictive that the technical limitations)
http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html (about 2/3 down) explains a little better what the use restrictions are and what Apple means by "own and control":
MAC APP STORE PRODUCT USAGE RULES
Except as otherwise set forth herein,
You may download and use an application from the Mac App Store (“Mac App Store Product”) for personal, non-commercial use on any Apple-branded products running Mac OS X (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control.
(ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download a Mac App Store Product for use by either (a) a single individual on each of the Mac Computer(s) used by that individual that you own or control or (b) multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Computer that you own or control. For example, a single employee may use a Mac App Store Product on both the employee’s desktop Mac Computer and laptop Mac Computer, or multiple students may serially use a Mac App Store Product on a single Mac Computer located at a resource center or library. For the sake of clarity, each Mac Computer used serially by multiple users requires a separate license.
(iii) Use may require sign-in with the Apple ID used to download the Mac App Store Product from the Mac App Store. Mac App Store Products can be updated through the Mac App Store only.
And further down:
This license granted to you for the Licensed Application by Licensor is limited to a nontransferable license to use the Licensed Application...
Not being able to resell software is a big drawback for more expensive programs. License transfers have long been accepted by major software developers. The process is not worth the trouble for a cheap app, but when you have $1000 apps, you want to keep that option open. SO I'd think twice before buying an expensive app from the Mac app store.

  • Multiple school iPads and apple id management

I have numerous ipads to use in my classroom.  They will not be managed by my district.  What is the best way to set these up in regards to apple ids, etc.?

Theres not a lot of info here. Are these devices owned by your school or are they being given to the students? If there not being managed by you or your district, why do you care about apple id managment? Are you pushing apps to your students? Are you running these through configurator? Are you installing mdm? When you say they wont be managed by your district, do you mean your handing these directly to your students with no prior setup? There are so many variables here that without at least a basic outline of what your trying to do for your students, its impossible for anyone to answer you. Please post back with more info so we can better answer your question.

  • TS1741 How do I have multiple apple IDs on one Apple TV 5.3

I have looked and looked but I can't find a way to put both mine and my boyfriends apple IDs onto this Apple TV that I just bought him.  It's the 5.3 version, I went under general, settings, and then iTunes Store, and there isn't a accounts option, it's just a sign in option so how can we both use our phones as remotes?

Well, you could save multiple Apple ID on your Apple TV, but you can't use them at the same time!

  • Multiple iPod's/Multiple Apple ID's

I have multiple iPod touch.  I have given one to my 10 year old son.  Is it possible to have multiple accounts to manage for my 10 year old.  Can i create his Apple ID within my own to monitor?

You do not need unique Apple ID's for FT. First setup FT on each device with the same Apple ID.  Then add another calling email address to each iPod  Then delete the Apple ID calling addresses from the iPods.  Each iPod must an unique email calling address. To call the iPhone, the phone's dialing number is used.
I have FT on my Mac and my iPod but onle one Apple ID.

  • HT204053 using multiple apple ID's

Should a family with multiple apple devices all use the same apple id in order to put music downloads and AP's all all devices?  We currently have 3 iphones, 1 ipad and 2 ipods!  we manage this with playlists but what about AP's?  We manage the music with individual playlists, but every time I open itunes, all of my daughters ap's begin downloading.
wodnering if there is a better way....I don't know alot about managing all the devices and using icloud.

If you don't want to pay multiple times for each item you purchase, for each device, then define the Apple ID in settings>iTunes Store...  the same for each device.
However, when you sync each device to itunes, you can control which apps are to be synced to the device, same for music.  Just look at each tab in itunes (for any given device) to set the items you want.

  • HT204053 I have multiple apple id's - how do I find them all?

I have multiple apple ids. I can not remember the security questions any more and now I can not access my email using my old email address. I now get a "Your account has been locked" message - very annoying!

To find all your AppleIDs log into
    My Apple ID https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
There use the link Find your Apple ID  in the lower right of the window.
On the same page you can use the "Reset your Password" link to manage your Apple ID and require that your security questions will be reset. You will receive an email notification with instructions how to proceed.

  • Can i use one pc with one installation of Itunes to use with multiple apple ID's?

can i use a single pc with one edition of itunes to manage multiple apple id's (without everyone's mail and message popping up on eachothers ipads/iphones etc)?

You would need the apps installed on both volumes. The versions installed on your 10.4 drive will most likely give you a "You cannot use this version, etc..." error if you try to launch them from a 10.5 volume. Some apps may run but you will end up "confusing" the system as to which instance of the app you want it to use.

Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications.  I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone.  I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups.  I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either.  Any guidance is MUCH appreciated - Im not sure where to go from here.

  • Multiple Apple IDs with multiple PCs and multiple AppleTVs - content not authorised

So, this is a slightly complicated setup; but it should work... and it does, until randomly AppleTV decides that it isn't authorised to play some content.
    Setup is this:
    PC1 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned off - pirmary AppleID (used for new purchases) is AppleID1
    PC2 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned off - primary AppleID (used for new purchases) is AppleID2
AppleID3 and AppleID4 are other AppleIDs and only occasionally used for new purchases depending on content availablity. Yes these are genuine AppleIDs associated with other email addresses in other regions as we split our time between countries.
PC3 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned ON (using AppleID1) - this PC isn't used interactively for purchasing content it's only purpose is for HomeSharing.
Please note that each PC has it's own iTunes library, all content is synchornised between PCs using sync programs (e.g. SuperSync) or a shared drive NAS.
There are 4 AppleTVs that are sharing the content from PC3.
Sometimes, when trying to play some content on one of the AppleTVs then the message that this content is not authorised will appear. So far the only way I have found around this is to go to PC3 and re-authorise that PC with the AppleID that was used to purchase the content. The PC _always_ reports that "This computer is already authorised for that AppleID"; however after doing this the content plays on the AppleTV.
How can I avoid this problem? PC3 is basically used as a HomeSharing server so that I don't have to have the individual PCs turned on. As far as I understand content is licensed to a specific AppleID and NOT (except with rentals) to a specific AppleID _and_ specific device.
I will happily change to using iCloud to allow all of my devices to access all of my content that I have purchased, but at the moment it seems that this problem will exist no matter how the content gets onto the device. Using a single new AppleID isn't possible either as we need to have different AppleIDs for different places.
Is there any solution? Why does AppleTV report that the content isn't authorised when the PC which is sharing the content is actually authorised? Why does re-authorising the PC make it work, when it reports that it was already authorised??
    This is becoming seriously annoying.

    Hi
i ran into the same problem. surprisingly though, i am not using multiple apple id and just one mac.
i did change both the account (apple id) and the computer (from pc to a mac server), but home sharing is on and the apple tv (1) is synced with the new computer.
i can connect to the itunes store and browse through it (signed in at all times). i cannot purchase any content and cannot play transferred rentals from the computer (apple tv is not authorised...)
somehow, it seems the apple tv was stuck with a previous id.
i have just now re-authorised my computer on the account and will give the apple tv another try. i did notice a message during the re-authorisation process. the apple tv is being authorised. this gives me hope.
in any case, your setup seems to be a dream come through. i decided to phase out my high end multiroom linn kivor system (over 20k back 6y ago) to an itunes based system. apparently you managed to build something.
i tried an itunes based nas but gave up due to complex operation (and overheating on top) and went for a mac server. i will be using windows clients though.

  • Multiple Apple IDs = Songs Not Playing on my iPhone?

Due to multiple Apple IDs, some of my purchased songs won't play on my iPhone. Is there a way to sync them so they all play?  I bought them, afterall...

Not knowing exactly what you tried
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • One iPhone; Multiple Apple IDs

I have the following - Windows 8; Itunes is loaded with my personal Apple ID; received an Iphone 5 with company Apple ID and permission to load personal apps, etc. on the company phone. How do I load multiple apple id's onto the one phone? I tried syncing them both but the company phone doesn't pick up my personal contacts...any advice?

In fact you can load apps from more than one Apple ID onto an iOS device. From Settings > iTunes & App Store sign out of the current account, then sign in with another. I suspect the limit of protected content from up to five different accounts still applies. Managing updates from multiple accounts is a drag as you have to sign in and out of each account in turn. Another complication is that iTunes normally wants to use a single library to manage the device, so if it has been set up at work you may have fun & games getting other content onto it while keeping what is already there. I suspect you'll have to purchase or download apps directly to the device rather than syncing it with your library, but then I'm not practiced in the way apps are distributed in a corporate environment.
You should also be able to set up multiple mail, contacts & calendar accounts.

  • Does Family Share solve How multiple Apple ID nightmare

I am one of the many who are stuck managing multiple Apple IDs. I have been trying to invite one id into the family, but all i get is "You cannot join this family?"
So I am confused. I can only accept an "invitation" on an IOS or OSX device. Does each Apple ID need its own device.
    Here are the specifics:
I have [email protected] that i have used for icloud drive documents and everything else
I have [email protected] that i started using about 10 years ago with itunes and music match. How do I join this apple id to the family?

    Hello Sean Murphy 1661,
You may need to sign into iCloud with the old Apple ID on a Mac or iOS device.
Family Sharing requires a personal Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes.
If you don't see your family's shared content

unless i'm missing something, i think you got mixed up, this is easy google for walk throughs
i'm assuming this is the new 3tb tc AC or 'tower' shape, if so, its wifi will run circles around your at&t device
unplug the at&t box for a minute and plug it back in
factory reset your tc - unplug it, hold down reset and keep holding while you plug it back in - only release reset when amber light flashes in 10-20s
connect the tc to your at&t box via eth in the wan port, wait 1 minute, open airport utility look in 'other wifi devices' to setup the tc
create a new wifi network (give it a different name than your at&t one) and put the tc in bridge mode (it may do this automatically for you, but you should double check) under the 'network' tab
login to your at&t router and disable wifi on it
add new clients to the new wifi network, and point your Macs to the time machine for backups
