Multiple Apple ID's on 1 machine (over 2 users)

I am using a new Mini mac & have created 2 administrative users. Although the system allows us to set a seperate Apple ID for each user, it automatically reverts to 1 Apple ID when updating / purchasing. Could anyone advise how we can set a seperate Apple ID for each user on the system?

Hi, what happens if you edit that info in the other account , say at the App Store or itUnes Store to match the other account, does it hold then?

  • Merging Multiple Apple IDs

As we all know, Apple will not merge multiple Apple IDs you may have used over the years. However this is the next best thing:
But, using Family Share, you can share all of your Apple IDs with your primary account.
In order to do this you'll need to change the e-mail addresses for all of your old Apple IDs you are no longer using in iTunes.
Then, set up a user profile on your Mac for each of them. T
hen invite all of them (up to 6) from your host Apple ID, and accept the invite for each user profile in its own iCloud settings on the Mac.
Now all of the content for all of your Apple IDs will be available under the one Apple ID you are currently using on all of your devices.
Took me a while to figure this out but it works like a charm.

That post is 3 years old. Since nothing has been said about it officially or un-officially since, chances are its not going to happen.
In reality, it would open a can of worms Apple and the Media rights holders are unlikely to want to open.
With that said, we really cannot speculate on Apple's plans. So if they ever decide they want to pursue this, we can only wait until they make an announcement for it.

  • HT5517 In multiple Apple TV's installation how can one prevent one iOS device from taking over the connection of another iOS device?

I am working on a system design where I would like to install 5 Apple TV's so when clients walk in with their iPhones they can connect to the network and be able to stream their audio to facility zone speakers where they will be working. But I am looking to prevent others from taking over that connection. I have never installed multiple Apple TV's in one site but I assume one would name them differently (Apple TV 1 - 5) when setting them up. I am also assuming when I walk in with my iphone and use the airplay I would see all 5 Apple TV's listed. Once I choose Apple TV 1 for instance, I do not want others to walk in and see Apple TV 1 on the list any longer so they do not have the oportunity to select it inadvertantly. Is this doable?

You can't remove them from the list, but you can set a password for airplay to each Apple TV

  • Using Apple Pay on Vending Machines - Over Charged

Hi All, I just used Apple Pay on two vending machines today, bought $0.75 candy on one machine and a $1.35 soda on another.  BOTH transactions charged me $1.50, I confirmed 2 "Pending transactions" for $1.50 each on my credit card account.  Anyone know if this some kind of hold, and the correct amount will eventually be charged?

    Hi ..
Very likely authorization holds. Same is true of purchasing from the iTunes & App Stores >  iTunes Store & Mac App Store: About payment card authorization holds - Apple Support
Monitor the account used for making those purchases for credits. It can take anywhere from 24 hours to three business days.

unless i'm missing something, i think you got mixed up, this is easy google for walk throughs
i'm assuming this is the new 3tb tc AC or 'tower' shape, if so, its wifi will run circles around your at&t device
unplug the at&t box for a minute and plug it back in
factory reset your tc - unplug it, hold down reset and keep holding while you plug it back in - only release reset when amber light flashes in 10-20s
connect the tc to your at&t box via eth in the wan port, wait 1 minute, open airport utility look in 'other wifi devices' to setup the tc
create a new wifi network (give it a different name than your at&t one) and put the tc in bridge mode (it may do this automatically for you, but you should double check) under the 'network' tab
login to your at&t router and disable wifi on it
add new clients to the new wifi network, and point your Macs to the time machine for backups

  • Multiple apple ID's - iCloud drive and google drive?

I've got a variety of apple devices and am trying to work out the best way to keep documents in sync across them all. The ideal solution would be to use iCloud drive but my macbook and iPhone are on one apple ID and my wife iPad and iPhone are on another. I'd like to keep them on separate apple ID's as we have different contact groups and don't want to see iCloud tabs for each other, etc. Plus backing up 4 devices to one iCloud account won't leave much space for anything else and when Microsoft give out 30gb, google give out 10gb the 5gb iCloud allowance is pretty poor.
At the moment we use google drive to store all our documents and just access this on our devices via the drive app. I'd really like to switch to using iCloud drive as it'll mean I can use iWork more than office but there just doesn't seem to be a way to keep documents in sync across multiple apple ID's.  Google drive also doesn't cater for iWork file formats so I can't simply save everything in there and just copy over to iCloud drive.
Does anyone have any bright ideas? Are there any third party iOS apps that will let you access items stored in icloud drive? I'd also thought about trying to use automator or applescript to copy a few select documents over to iCloud drive and convert to the iWork formats but I'm quite new to all that so not very sure where to start.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have a similar problem with this as well.  For example, I like to keep the "contacts" of me and my spouse updated on both of our phones.  In order for this to happen, I have to sign in to "icloud" on both devices & mac with my apple ID.  It would be much better if this could be shared/combined with multiple devices as an option.  I don't think "icloud drive" solve's this problem.

  • Multiple Apple ID management

I would like to get a little more info on how Apple envisions multiple Apple ID management in families and businesses.
When the IDs first appeared, they were just used to buy equipment. Since the value of the purchase was a tangible physical object, the purchase method didn't matter much. When iTunes started selling tracks, ID management became a bit more of an issue, but since the amounts involved were small and the purchases were usually personal, it wasn't a big deal. Now with the app store and more expensive purchase of both professional and personal nature, it becomes rather complicated.
    Here are a few scenarios:
A business where the equipment, OS and software are tied to a business account, but the employee can use his personal account to sync his music, iOS apps, etc.
A household where the parents handle the hardware/software, but the kids have their own individual music/iApp allowance.
When I purchase a 3-license program from a software manufacturer, I can install it on any 3 machines, regardless how they were purchased. but with the app store, they must all be linked to one Apple ID.
On a related note, can you transfer a license for an app purchased in the app store (aka sell used software)?

    Thanks Dah-veed.
I'm fully aware that this is a user forum, but often you get better answers from users than from Apple.
I was curious to see how other people with multiple computers/multiple users manage their Apple IDs.
To answer my own question, it's possible to install a purchased app on "any*" computer using the Apple ID used to make the purchase. So the computer does not need to be exclusively linked to an Apple ID. (* other terms restrict which computers. So the EULA is more restrictive that the technical limitations)
http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html (about 2/3 down) explains a little better what the use restrictions are and what Apple means by "own and control":
MAC APP STORE PRODUCT USAGE RULES
Except as otherwise set forth herein,
You may download and use an application from the Mac App Store (“Mac App Store Product”) for personal, non-commercial use on any Apple-branded products running Mac OS X (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control.
(ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download a Mac App Store Product for use by either (a) a single individual on each of the Mac Computer(s) used by that individual that you own or control or (b) multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Computer that you own or control. For example, a single employee may use a Mac App Store Product on both the employee’s desktop Mac Computer and laptop Mac Computer, or multiple students may serially use a Mac App Store Product on a single Mac Computer located at a resource center or library. For the sake of clarity, each Mac Computer used serially by multiple users requires a separate license.
(iii) Use may require sign-in with the Apple ID used to download the Mac App Store Product from the Mac App Store. Mac App Store Products can be updated through the Mac App Store only.
    And further down:
This license granted to you for the Licensed Application by Licensor is limited to a nontransferable license to use the Licensed Application...
Not being able to resell software is a big drawback for more expensive programs. License transfers have long been accepted by major software developers. The process is not worth the trouble for a cheap app, but when you have $1000 apps, you want to keep that option open. SO I'd think twice before buying an expensive app from the Mac app store.

  • HT5625 Can you deactive multiple Apple ID's?

Over the years I have set up multiple Apple ID's for my one apple device. Unfortuntley I used email addresses for the companies I was working for at the time. I know that I need to authorize those multiple ID's in order to transfer my music to the computer I am using, I get all the way to the point of reseting the password for each ID. But the problem is they need to be authenticated thru email, well I cant get to those emails anymore. Long story short, would it be easier just to deactive these accounts and restore my ipod back to factory and start over with my music.

Wouldn't you only need to create a new apple ID and put that on your phone instead of your old apple ID that is merged?

  • Will iTunes Match work with songs purchased from multiple Apple IDs?

My parents have an iTunes library with about 10,000 songs on it.  It's basically one big mesh of my family's purchases from over the years, using multiple Apple ID's and some of which I don't even recognize and/or remember.  It's become very problematic now that my mother wants me to get a lot of the music "out of the guts of the computer" so she can listen to them on her iPhone and iPad.
I'm assuming iTunes Match is the solution, but I just want to be sure that the "match" part pertains not only to purchases from outside sources, but also purchases from other Apple ID's as well.  I won't have to do the whole "authorize this computer" stuff, right?  Like I said, some of the songs were purchased using old ID's that we don't have access to anymore.  Also, if I sign up my mom for an iTunes Match account, and she wants to play songs that I purchased using my own Apple ID, that's not going to change *my* account or authorizations in any way, is it?

    Hi Rubberbucket,
The music information for iTunes Match is obtained from the user's iTunes music library and does not depend on the Apple ID under which the music was purchased from the iTunes Store. See this article -

  • Multiple Apple TVs - affect on school broadband

Hello, I am new to this forum. The school I support now has several Ipads and Apple TVs and the number is growing. Does any one know what impact this may have on broadband. Does using multiple Apple Tvs affect speed etc? Any information re any technical issues of using Apple TV in school would be much appreciated.

Yes, internal use (iPad to Apple TV) will not affect brodband connectivity.
The signal from iPad needs to go to WiFi router (or access point) and then back to Apple TV. So it is a bit over kill in busy environments. To easy the WiFi traffic it is advisable to wire Apple TV via ethernet port - this hat to be on the same LAN (VLAN) as the WiFi network.
Let me know if you have more questions.

  • Multiple Apple IDs

Is there any place the AppleID hierarchy/architecture is discussed?  Apple is silent on the subject, as far as I can tell.
Apple seems to invalidate my password about every month.  Of course, that becomes my problem ('you have entered and incorrect password'), not theirs.  I Geniuses at the Apple store possess no knowledge to help me, but say that one Apple ID is all I need.
I'm guessing that my various apple platforms are getting confused.  I have an pro notebook.  My wife has a desktop mac, and iPad and her own AppleID.  We both have iPhones.  My son has an iPhone.  We have AppleTV, which is shared with my wife's Mac.  We both use a mini at a second home.
Recently, my wife's Apple ID stopped working on her iPad after she tried to access Mail on the mini mentioned above.  Just now, I tried to download an app on the iPhone and ... guess what ... I had an invalid password.  I have now reset my Apple ID on my computer, and it seems to work.

Unfortunately, millions of Apple users have by some means or another, over the years accumulated multiple Apple ID's.  At this point, there is no possible way to bring them together as one, but I was told by an Apple Support person, that Apple IS working on this.  One must simply write down or remember which Apple ID is for what.  I knew I had two ID's (early years when I thought one set up a new ID for each new product), but discovered that in fact, I had THREE.  Discovered this when I was trying to migrate from MobileMe to iCloud.  I rarely used the 2nd ID so now I have one ID for iCloud and another for everything else I do with Apple (iTunes etc).  A bit of a nuisance but I can live with it.

  • Multiple Apple IDs with multiple PCs and multiple AppleTVs - content not authorised

So, this is a slightly complicated setup; but it should work... and it does, until randomly AppleTV decides that it isn't authorised to play some content.
    Setup is this:
    PC1 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned off - pirmary AppleID (used for new purchases) is AppleID1
    PC2 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned off - primary AppleID (used for new purchases) is AppleID2
AppleID3 and AppleID4 are other AppleIDs and only occasionally used for new purchases depending on content availablity. Yes these are genuine AppleIDs associated with other email addresses in other regions as we split our time between countries.
PC3 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned ON (using AppleID1) - this PC isn't used interactively for purchasing content it's only purpose is for HomeSharing.
Please note that each PC has it's own iTunes library, all content is synchornised between PCs using sync programs (e.g. SuperSync) or a shared drive NAS.
There are 4 AppleTVs that are sharing the content from PC3.
Sometimes, when trying to play some content on one of the AppleTVs then the message that this content is not authorised will appear. So far the only way I have found around this is to go to PC3 and re-authorise that PC with the AppleID that was used to purchase the content. The PC _always_ reports that "This computer is already authorised for that AppleID"; however after doing this the content plays on the AppleTV.
How can I avoid this problem? PC3 is basically used as a HomeSharing server so that I don't have to have the individual PCs turned on. As far as I understand content is licensed to a specific AppleID and NOT (except with rentals) to a specific AppleID _and_ specific device.
I will happily change to using iCloud to allow all of my devices to access all of my content that I have purchased, but at the moment it seems that this problem will exist no matter how the content gets onto the device. Using a single new AppleID isn't possible either as we need to have different AppleIDs for different places.
Is there any solution? Why does AppleTV report that the content isn't authorised when the PC which is sharing the content is actually authorised? Why does re-authorising the PC make it work, when it reports that it was already authorised??
    This is becoming seriously annoying.

    Hi
i ran into the same problem. surprisingly though, i am not using multiple apple id and just one mac.
i did change both the account (apple id) and the computer (from pc to a mac server), but home sharing is on and the apple tv (1) is synced with the new computer.
i can connect to the itunes store and browse through it (signed in at all times). i cannot purchase any content and cannot play transferred rentals from the computer (apple tv is not authorised...)
somehow, it seems the apple tv was stuck with a previous id.
i have just now re-authorised my computer on the account and will give the apple tv another try. i did notice a message during the re-authorisation process. the apple tv is being authorised. this gives me hope.
in any case, your setup seems to be a dream come through. i decided to phase out my high end multiroom linn kivor system (over 20k back 6y ago) to an itunes based system. apparently you managed to build something.
i tried an itunes based nas but gave up due to complex operation (and overheating on top) and went for a mac server. i will be using windows clients though.
most of my content is cd based. can you sync purchased content between pc's? or with a server?

  • TV Shows disappeared on multiple Apple Tv's

I have 2 Apple Tv's in different parts of the house on a wired gigabit CAT 6 network. Everything has been fine until a couple days ago when all of my TV Shows older than a couple days disappeared off both Apple TVs. I have over 300 movies and almost 2500 TV shows on a server. I use my iMac to run iTunes off the server and host the Apple TV's. Everything still shows up in iTunes and plays fine. All of of the 300+ movies still show up on both Apple TVs when streaming and the newest 10 show up on the Apple TVs when iTunes is not running as I have selected. All TV shows are displayed in the TV Show tab in iTunes to select to sync. However, only the shows I have downloaded in the past 2 days show up on the Apple TVs either streaming or synced. And, the exact same shows are the only ones that will show up on either Apple TV so I do not think it is a problem with the Apple TV itself. I have tried adding and deleting the Apple TVs, restarting, restarting iTunes, syncing shows and unsyncing shows and I cannot get all of my old shows to stream and cannot get the shows I selected to sync to transfer. Everything worked fine until a couple days ago and I haven't done anything since except buy that Michael Moore season of The Awful Truth. Karma? Any thoughts on fixing it?

    Dear Maceyz,
Thank you for posting your solution, very kind of you. I'm contemplating multiple apple tv's, family room and master, and I thought you might be able to help me, if so inclined.
Can the two apple tvs' share movies or does everything run through my home computer like a server? Should I get a true server, (my company and in-house techs have servers to spare), to run my household?
Trying to figure our what you've probably already gone through. Thank you in advance for any help you might offer.
    Kindest Regards,

  • Time Machine over AirPort to Time Capsule... maybe a solution

Like a lot of people on this forum, apparently, I have been suffering from the inability to make reliable Time Machine backups to a Time Capsule over AirPort. Here's what I did to solve the situation.
    Here's my network setup:
I have an ADSL wireless box with b/g network connected over ethernet to a 1-TB Time Capsule which has a 5 GHz 'n' network. Using 5 GHz 'n' network where I am means no interference. All equipment that is not capable of 'n' is on the wireless box, 'n' equipment (basically, only my MacBook Pro) gets on the Time Capsule. It doesn't make internet faster, but sure makes the Time Capsule accessible. Both networks are hidden and secured with WEP (b/g) or WPA2 (n).
(the Time Capsule is double-NATted, unfortunately, to cut down on network chatter in the system log)
After upgrading to 10.5.6, I think I haven't been able to make a reliable Time Machine backup over AirPort. It may have been well before that (possibly with the AirPort Extreme update) but I don't remember. Most of the time, before the wireless box arrived, I have been making far-too-irregular backups over ethernet to the Time Capsule.
Anyway, I had been trying to get Time Machine to work over AirPort to the backup on the Time Capsule. I had made the original backup over ethernet (all 500 GB worth over a weekend). For the incremental backups, though, I would prefer AirPort because keeping a cable attached really is a pain. Of course, it didn't work right away.
What I couldn't figure out was why. Time Machine mounted the sparsebundle volume on the Time Capsule, but after that it seemed to do nothing with it. I left it for half a day and found little by way of relevant network activity. I tried the following to no avail:
    * disabled Little Snitch (outgoing firewall) and the OS X firewall (incoming firewall)
    * disabled security on the network
    * disabled and re-enable Time Machine
    * changed the name of the sparsebundle volume (that was dumb!)
    * trash Time Machine preferences and re-select the backup disk
    * reboot, reboot, reboot
Whatever I did, it sucked. Connecting over ethernet was excellent, and incremental backups went really quick, but AirPort just didn't fly. It would have been worse if it were slow; chances are then it'd be a hardware problem. But nothing was going over AirPort with Time Machine.
In amongst the surfing, I found somewhere how to downgrade the firmware on the Time Capsule. Worth a try since nothing was working. I opened up the AirPort Utility and checked, but it would only give me 7.3.2 (AirPort Utility 5.3.2). I searched and found the AirPort 5.3.1 software, and using Pacifist extracted the AirPort Utility application. That would let me 'downgrade' the Time Capsule firmware to 7.3.1 (and 7.3). It downloaded the 7.3.1 for me and put it on the Time Capsule without problems.
I then made a test run with Time Machine over ethernet, that was fine. The I tried over AirPort - and hey presto! it worked! I re-enabled my network setup (firewalls, security) and it's still working fine.
So, if your Time Capsule is on 7.3.2 firmware and Time Machine over AirPort *****, try downgrading to 7.3.1. The AirPort 5.3.1 software, which can download and install the 7.3.1 software (5.3.2 doesn't) can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/TimeCapsule_and_AirPort_Base_Station__802_11n__Firmware_7_31
    Note: you need Pacifist to extract the AirPort Utility application;
do not install the software over your existing AirPort software

This may be tough because TM isn't supported over wi-fi unless you're using a Time Capsule. There are a couple of resources available to you and I'd also recommend posting in the Snow Leopard forum because TM is part of OS X the OS X forum would be the right venue. The first thing is I'm guessing you are using a router, if so make sure the firmware on it is up-to-date. You will need to refer to the router's manual. You also should do the same with the modem too. Some written resources are:
    Time Machine FAQs
    Time Machine Troubleshooting
    Pondini Time Machine Tips
That's about all I can help you out with.
    Good luck!

  • Time machine over a network volume

So since Snow Leopard (and I think Leopard), when you use Time machine to back up over a network share (for example, a USB drive attached to a mini server), the OSX creates a sparsebundle image where all time machine files are stored.
In Lion, If I encrypt my hard drive, and I keep on backing up using time machine over this network share.. will the sparsebundle image be encrypted or not?

I don't see much difference between using a sparsebundle image or an encrypted sparsebundle image.
I've sent this feedback to Apple see if they enable this in subsequent updates.
