Multiple Apple products in same household

Can anyone suggest how to set up our home system so that every user can access a central library and download only what they want, without having the right to delete from a central library (similar to server) a specific game  or music ? Do we need 3 user ids or only one? 2 of the users are minors hence need parental controls.  We currently have 1 ipad and 3 ipods.  Any help is welcome.

Create an Apple ID for your wife and use that to sign into iMessage. Use a shared Apple ID for iTunes and App store purchases so they are avialble on all devices.

My son has an Ipod4 he needs to update.  I have an Iphone3G that I plug into my Windows computer to sync, charge, etc.  So my music library is on Itunes.  My question is:  If I plug my son's Ipod into my computer will my Itunes library be downloaded to his Ipod.?  Will his music on his Ipod replace my library on Itunes?

    Yes if you let it.
The follwoing tells you what will happen if you udate on other than the iPod synsing computer:
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5
There are ways around it but why not just update on his computer?

I have started getting spammed on multiple Apple products (iPhone and iPad) with FaceTime calls since the recent IOS update.  Is there any feature or setting I can use locally to restrict incoming calls to a FaceTime account without going to the carrier?

After calling AT&T tech support one more time, and explaining to them that the glitch was on their network, they admitted that the problem was at their tower...
I continued to use the phone on EDGE mode for two more days until the problem was fixed.
I even got a call back from a tech support guy asking me if my phone was working properly....
I wish they would have admitted to the problem before I sat at the apple store for 2 hours.

  • What is the best way to set up multiple devices in the same household?

Our family has a bunch of devices (phones, pads, pods) all set up under the same appleID.  The idea was to be able to share iTunes content among devices.  The problem is that there is personalized data merging between devices (address book, apps, etc).  Is there a way to set up multiple devices under the same account while maintaining their own identity so that Each user can have their own apps, addresses, etc without having to sift through everyone else's stuff?

Continue to share your iTunes ID, but use different IDs for other services such as FaceTime, iMessage and iCloud.  (When you share the same iCloud account across multiple devices, any synced data is merged and the merged list appears on all devices sharing the account.)
    To change the ID For:
iMessage, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive (Receive At in iOS 5), tap the ID sign out, sign back in using the other ID.
FaceTime, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.
iCloud, you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account.  Before deleting the account, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll or you will lose them.  To do this, open the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.  Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On [iDevice].  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want in each account (such as deleting the other person's contacts from your account, and vice versa).

  • Can iTunes purchases be loaded to multiple iPods within the same household

Is it legal to download purchased music from iTunes Music Store to more than one iPod within the same household?
I understand the implications with teenagers sharing music in this manner; however, it seems crazy that I need purchase duplicate music to download to both mine and my wife's iPod.
I tested this with a few of the songs I purchased over the weekend and the iTunes software will allow the files to be imported into iTunes but not the iPod. It gives a message that states my wife's iPod is not autorized to download these files.
Please advise if it is legal to do this and if so how I can go about importing purchased files to my wife's iPod?

It says the files are not authorized for use on that her iPod. I made the purchases from my work laptop and updated my iPod from iTunes on my computer.
I added original CD tracts to the iTunes software on my work laptop and copied these and my purchased files to a second version of iTunes that is running on my home computer that my wife uses to manage her iPod.
I imported the folders to her computer by going to "File" and "Add Folder to Library". It brought the purchased files in to her library and auto-created a folder that it identified as imported Limeware files for the folders of the CD files.
When I updated her ipod it loaded all the files except for the 6 purchased files that I had brought in. That is when I got the message saying that her iPod was not authorized to receive the 6 purchased files.
In addition to not being able to load my purchased files to my wife's iPod, I am afraid that I will be charged for the imported CD files that iTunes automatically and erroneously identified as "Limeware" files.
Any advice? Thanks for the feedback and taking the time.

  • Multiple apple owners/ use same apple ID?

I have just purchased an iphone 4 and I already had an apple id on my Family Ipad..and I used the same apple ID from it to my IPHONE, but I don't want all my Phone contacts and Imessages to go to BOTH  products..Should I  or Can I delete the ID from phone?  Once I do so, won't I lose my contact info?
I have read that it is recommended to sync ..but I don't see if that is all good..being that IPAD is for Family usage and IPHONE to be personal?
My spouse has his own IPHONE also but w/their OWN Apple ID..

You can use the same Apple ID for purchasing (in Settings>Store on your device), but it is recommended that you use different Apple IDs on your devices for other services such as iMessage, FaceTime, etc.  This article may be helpful: http://www.macstories.net/stories/ios-5-icloud-tips-sharing-an-apple-id-with-you r-family/.
To change Apple IDs for iMessage, go to Settings>Messages>Receive At, tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  Do the same for FaceTime in Settings>FaceTime.
To change the Apple ID for purchasing (optional), go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in using the alternate ID.

  • Multiple Apple TV's Same source ?

    Hi,
in this world with Sonos, etc - where I can stream music to mutipiple devices, I have mulitple apple TV's.
When we have movie nights - I would like to have mutiple TV'ss running with the video sourced synchronised.
I can do this with an old fashioned Blue Ray player and splitting HDMI signal to multiple TV's.  There has to be a way with apple tv.
Come one apple. Using apple TC's and extremes connected with Cat 6 cable and 1 GB/s switches connecting them all together - band width is not an issue here.  Next upgrade - allow the output to airplay to be extended to multiple devices.
There are othe apps now tha allowmultiple streaming.  Dont get caught behind.
    Cheers
    James

  • How do I sync my mail accounts on multiple apple products?

My live.com account will not sync with my iphone and ipad. If I receive and delete emails on my phone, I have to do the whole process again with the same emails once I am on my ipad/laptop. I have 2 accounts and one of them is in sync with my other devices but my live.com account is not. Is there a way to sync my account on all my apple devices to where once I delete or look at an email, I don't have to do it again on all my other apple devices?

    Hi
You will probably have to add the mail accounts yourself onto the iphone see here:

  • Multiple Apple TV on same account

Can I put 10 ATV's on the same account using home sharing for ATV 2 generation?
How many streams can I see in the same time using ATV?

I am trying to due something similar. I am trying to attach 16 ATV to a tv wall to slideshow some pictures. I ran into trouble after 5 and I am still looking for a work around. There seems to be a limitation to 5 ATV per homesharing account. In case of pictures, which are not DRM protected, I would have thought the limitation would not have applied. I am still trying to see if I can work around it but have not gotten to the answer. If you figure it out, please post the solution. :)
    Thanks,
    Eduardo
