Multiple audio-outs via USB or Firewire?

I'm looking for a hardware solution for my mid-2010 MBP w/ 2-4 audio outputs via USB or Firewire.  On the software side, I want to have multiple media players open and playing simultaniously, but each output separately.  I was told m-audio makes devices that allow this, but I am curious which may be the cheapest with this capability - or alternate manufacturers.

I think you'd have better luck going to the m-audio forums and asking your question.

It would be hit or miss to find someone here who's an expert on your issue.  Also, you might post your question to the Logic Studio forum here:

There are a lot of sound people there who might point you in the right direction with a MacBook Pro.

  • Audio out via USB plays briefly , then shuts off

    Hi,
I'm running version 10.4.11 on my iMac. I'm sending audio out via usb to an audio device (dac), the audio will play for a while and then just quit. This happens using iTunes or another music player I have on the iMac. This problem is recent, I have been doing this for about a year with no previous problems. Could an OS X update have caused a problem with the usb audio output? Anyone else experiencing this issue? It's become quite aggravating.
    Thanks!

    Yes.

  • Audio out via USB

Mac mini audio out port was working on and off. No cause found. So thinking of other alternatives for audio out.
Is it possible to get audio output via USB such that I can connect it to my Hi-Fi?

    Yes.

  • Version 1.1 and audio out via USB problem

When I attempt to use headphones to assist editing, I prefer to use the m-audio USB transit and set my sound preferences for the iMac accordingly, but STP in my case does not work at all. Instead, I hear clicking ( about 1 sec intervals), followed by STP freeze and unless I force quit, my system freezes.
If, on the other hand, I use digital out, or a FW interface or the iMac's speakers, all is well.
I am more than mystified since FC readily works with the USB pathway with video/audio , thus allowing me to use the FW ports on this limited platform.
I have trashed STPs preferences without any result. I also cannot find (or do not know where to look for) STPs specific preferences for audio out. I apologize in advance for failing to find the reference in the manual, if that is where it is and those settings are the issue.
Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

At the risk of seeming to be talking to myself, I can report that I have found a solution to the problem I posted. To be more precise, Apple did, some time ago.

Thanks to all who looked in. I hope it is useful for someone else, too.

  • Is it possible to play iTunes audio out through USB to receiver to power speakers?

I thought you should be able to.Play iTunes audio out through USB to a receiver equipt with USB mode as I can with my iPad Air, but I can,t find in preferences on my 2013 iMac any out put and I get no signal to the receiver/amp. Is it possible? What am I doing wrong?

    Yes
A 3.5mm to RCA cable or adapter will work fine for stereo between the Mac's headphone jack and receiver's RCA input.
    for example's

Additionally if your receiver is equipted with digital input, you could use a Toslink cable with a 3.5mm adapter on the Mac end.

  • Modem via USB or Firewire

I have a iBook G4 with OSX 10.3.9. The ethernet port is damaged and I like to connect to my DSL modem via USB or Firewire port. What do I need to do?

    hollywoodian,Welcome to the discussion area!
...and I like to connect to my DSL modem via USB or Firewire port. What do I need to do?
That is probably not possible. Your DSL modem may have a USB port but your iBook can only use that if the manufacturer of the DSL modem provides a Mac OS X compatible USB drivers for the modem. No DSL modems that I am aware of have FireWire ports.
Probably the easiest thing solution is to install an AirPort Extreme card in your iBook G4 and connect an inexpensive wireless router to your DSL modem. Then your iBook G4 will connect to the network wirelessly.

  • PCMCIA adaptor via USB or Firewire?

    Hi,
I really want to get connected using a PCMCIA external modem here in Melbourne (through iBurst providing wireless coverage over many klms!), but ofcourse the G4 Powerbook 12" doesn't have a PCMCIA slot. Is it possible to get an adaptor via USB or firewire? Do you think it would work okay with such new technology dedicated to the PCMCIA slot? (I have had trouble contacting the company iBurst personally to ask!)
    Thanks,
    Tim

I have found a couple of things as i have been looking too...
One will do it but it seems as though it's availabel for OEM only (maybe we could get enough folk together and get some!?)
Other seems to offer all the connections but the blurb about it says otherwise.
http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/usb/u111.php - will work by the sounds...

  • Multiple Audio out: usb dac audio out and hdmi out

Good afternoon everyone, I have a 2010 mac mini with the following audio set up.
    - A usb dac (xtreamer) connected to my stereo amplifier
    - an Hdmi cable to the tv to get  video and audio diretcly to the tv
Is it possibile by any chance to get simoultanesly audio output both from usb audio out and hdmi audio out???
In "midi preference panel" I tried to create a "virtual" sound card but i am not able to get sound simoultanesly. or via hdmi, or via usb.
this is quite disappointing because if I want to listen to music with the amplifier and then watching a simple video with mac mini and tv only I need to go back to the audio preferences and set up manually each time.
Is it possible to solve this issue???
Thanks a lot and gretings from Italy

I can select ATV audio out (Airplay setting) to either my Airport Express or my computer so it must be transmitting via airplay. Using a combination of Airserver, Airfoil and Airfoil Speakers I managed to get the ATV audio content on both my PC and my Airport Express at the same time but it cuts out the ATV audio.
My aim is to have a movie on ATV transmitting the Audio to ATV AND my stereo (which is hooked up to the Airport Express).
    Cheers

  • Multiple Audio outs

I just sold on Ebay my FireStudio Project audio interface. I'm glad I did. It was too big for my needs.
I am happily using MainStage2, but wish to have a separated audio out for me vocal mic. (This is due to feedback problems created from my Bose SoundDock that is aimed right back at me. The SoundDock looks and sounds great as is where is.)
Can anyone recommend a way to rout the vocal mic out sound to a port other than the 3.5 mm stereo jack?
It would be wonderful if this recommendation would be to a firewire port in that the 3 USB ports are already used up to accommodate my live rig set-up.
BTW, I do have an alesis powered speaker, so a FireWire to 1/4" or FireWire to XLR would be a needed cable.
    Thank you so much.

Get yourself (used is fine, on ebay etc) a multiple ins and outs firewire interface. There are plenty available. I (and many others) have had great success with a MOTU UltraLite mk3. You can get older models that are Firewire only (new ones are USB + Firewire). Thats the easy way, and then you could route vocal only out of its own 1/4" output jack and send it to where the sun doesn't shine. Also, that little MOTU box has internal DSP (compression, eq, reverb, etc). Nice.

  • Connecting via USB and FireWire at the same time...

    Hey all,
I have a 3rd Generation iPod (with the play/pause, menu, next track and previous track buttons between the screen and the touch wheel), and I just bought a new Nano.
Obviously, I want to keep them both synced with my MBP, but there's a problem. The 3G will sync via the Dock-to-USB cable, but it will only charge and sync with Dock-to-FireWire. The Nano, on the other hand, doesn't support FireWire.
So, in order to sync/charge them both, I have to use a different cable for each.
Or, do I? Apple sells a Dock-to-USB-AND-FireWire cable (one Dock Connector with two wires coming out). I'd love to plug both the USB and FireWire connectors to the MBP and then just plug the Dock connector into one iPod and then into the other. But, in the documentation for the cable, it says not to connect both the FireWire and USB ends to the computer at the same time, or it might result in "unexpected behavior."
Does anybody out there have any experience using this cable with both ends connected at the same time? Does it work? Have you noticed any "unexpected behavior?"
I wanted to check before I go defying Apple's instructions.
    Thanks,

  • What is the audio throughput via usb on the new macbook air?

I just purchased a new macbook air and was wondering what kind of audio that I would get as output from the computer via usb. In particular I am interested what kind of audio I am sending as output to my Bose T1 Tonematch Mixer?

Cheap, but with some risk: Ebay
Inexpensive, no risk: Staples, Best Buy, Office Depot or Office Max. (one of them seems to always be running a sale on Office for Mac Home and Student for $99.00.
You can always try Amazon, too.
Remember: Even if you buy the DVD at a store, you can still download afterwards from Microsoft, and then just use the Key that comes with the box purchase of Office you bought. That way, you don't have to worry about finding a means of using that DVD with yoru MBA.

  • Audio out via 30 pin on iPad 2

Does anyone know if the internal speaker will still work when you use a 30 pin cable and grab audio out off pins 3 &4? If so which cable works? Bought a 30pin to USB/audio out 3.5mm that kills the internal speaker. Using iPad 2. Thanks

No, the speakers do not work while the audio is sent out through the dock connector.

  • Xserve audio out via Optical?

    Hi,
I am a bottom feeder of Apple goods, which has been a successful strategy for me for decades.
I am using an Xserve (Late '06), running snow leopard server to host a lot of different services (DNS,Mail,Files,Video,Audio, Etc).
Lately I have been thinking about adding a home theater.  Since my movie's are residing on the Xserve,  I was thinking I would love use that to push my TV and (wait for it) my audio.
So, obviously, the xserve has no audio out.  I have been exploring the various options to get this working, with limited success.  I have an old Onkyo USB based Stereo out box, which works great for stereo.
I purchased the generic looking Sewell USB Sound Box (which can be viewed in all it's glory here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Y0ERRO/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_SC_dp_1)
This box works well for what it is (ie cheap), BUT it appears it is only able to drive the 5.1 setup through  analog from unencoded sources. So, if you have a file on your mac that is a 5.1 audio file it will play fine through this USB Box. BUT any encoded content  (Like any real media playback) doesn't work.
So, to make a long story short, I need to find a way to get the raw audio from my xServe to an optical connector, and then to a Surround receiver.
IS THERE ANY know solution to go from USB or FW to Optical audio on a Mac? The Sewell Box and MANY others have this feature, but the software to switch it on isn't available for OSX.
    Thanks for ideas,
    Marty
PS I did already upgrade the video card in my xserve with a flashed PC Radeon HD2600Pro.

you could install xbmc for mac on another box and connect it to your TV
and use it to stream movies music etc from the xserve
as well as airplay from IOS devices
    Xbmc is free

  • Streaming via USB or Firewire

This is more of a poll than a real question.
I'm looking into buying a new external HD. I'm wandering which one streams better, USB or Firewire. I've tried both USB and Firewire. I've noticed that Firewire seems to do a little better than USB.
    What do you think?
    Thanks

As you seem to have noticed firewire is the fastest interface whether it be FW 400 or FW 800, USB is technically 480 mbps but you are unlikely to achieve anywhere near this and I would generally expect USB to be around 15% slower than FW 400.
However that being said I've noticed (not sure if this is generally the case) that firewire drives seem to run considerably hotter than USB and therefore suspect they may have a shorter life span, firewire drives are of course less common and seem slightly more expensive.
Personally I prefer the multi interface drives and on occasions when I've had firewire issues they have proved to be worth their weight in gold when I've been able to continue using them by switching them to a USB port.

  • Multiple Audio outs for DJing?

Okay, potentially stupid question. I've got a MBP, and on a lark I bought the new M-Audio MixLab DJ bundle.
So, you need to have the ability to have headphones connected for cueing, and then speakers connected for your live mix. Well, there's only one stereo out port on the MBP (and most Macs).
Any thoughts on what's the best way to deal with this? Are USB speakers my only option?

there are hundreds of audio interface options for notebooks, MBPs included. how many ins and outs do you need? m-audio sell a whole range of them themselves, you could start by looking at their site under firewire and/or USB audio interfaces.
