Multiple Back ups! Help

So I need to help my sister back up her phone. I've suggested she do the same for her iPad, since it's only safe. I'm concerned that if I back up her iPad after her phone, it will delete the first back up and save over that one.
Is it possible to have an iPad back up and an iPhone back up saved in iTunes?

Look at Mac Backup - Mac Backup Software, Hardware, and Guides for Your Mac

You can use CarbonCopy Cloner @ http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html , or SuperDuper @ http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html , or IBackup @ http://www.grapefruit.ch/iBackup/index.html , or Silverkeeper @ http://www.lacie.com/silverkeeper/ or the Restore function of Disk Utility included in OS X.
Use a firewire drive for 2 reasons: firewire data transfer is 2X faster than USB 2.0 drives, and firewire is bootable while USB is not.

  • Snow Leopard server with multiple back ups

Im hoping someone can help me.
I have a Mac mini server running snow leopard.
I currently use time machine to back up to second install harddrive.
I need to add another harddrive to back up to is this possible with snowleopard.
The second drive would be using time machine for the backup.
    Any advice would be appreaciated.
    Thanks
    Greg

    Hi Greg,
With Snow Leopard it is not possible to select multiple destinations with TimeMachine.
You might consider using another backup tool like Carbon Copy Cloner to get another backup otherwise upgrade to Mountain Lion so you can choose more than one destination.
In the end an upgrade might be the best way to go.
    Goodluck!

  • Error message when trying to install mavericks. It won't let me select a disk to install Mavericks on. Message says "This disk is used to Time Machine backups."  It is NOT used for back ups. help

When trying to chose a disk on which to install mavericks I get a message that says "this disk is used for Time Machine backups" and cannot be used.  Help!

I don't know what will help at this point. You should never update a system that has problems, unless you're absolutely sure that the problems are caused by a bug that is fixed in the update. With your backups in an uncertain state, you should not update or do anything else except start a new backup.

  • Synchronizing photo corrections to multiple back-ups in Lightroom 5

Hi, I have backed up my images on three different external Hard drives, and have "ADDED" each to the Lightroom catalogue so that I can access the images from any of the Hard drives.  I make most of my image corrections and adjustments using  my main external drive, but when I access the images from a different drive they are not applied to the photos. I kind of thought that once corrections or adjustments were made, they became part of the catalogue and would be applied no matter where the image was accessed from.  Is there any way to synchronize the adjustments to the copies that reside on the other hard drives? I use a Macbook Pro with Yosemite, have access to Carbon Copy Cloner, and use 2 G-Drives (a 4TB and a 750GB) and a WD 2TB drive as backups.
    thanks for your assistance.
    Dennis

Lightroom stores your changes in the catalog, and the only way you can view the changes is via the Lightroom software itself (or you can export the changes to a totally new file, which in no way is considered to be a backup). Lightroom NEVER changes the image portion of your original photos (and thus it would NEVER change the image portion of your backup files either). If you want to use the backup copies occasionally (which is a process I don't really recommend), you still need to use the original catalog, and force it to point to the backup drive.
The idea of using your backup hard drives occasionally as "working copies" will only lead to confusion and possibly changing the backups to "not true backups". I strongly advise you to use your main external drive whenever you use Lightroom.
A complete backup of all your work in Lightroom requires a backup of your catalog file (you haven't really said if you have done this), and a backup of all of your ORIGINAL UNEDITED photos. Thus, for backup purposes, there really isn't a need to have the backups reflect the changes made in Lightroom, nor is there a way to have your backups reflect the changes made in Lightroom.

  • How do I delete unwanted multiple back-ups of a Virtual Machine?

I just learned that VMWare (Fusions) does not recommend backing up the Virtual Machine onto the Time Machine drive. Now I know why: My 1 Tb Time Machine is full, after just two months. I've tried to drag the unwanted backups into the trash, but that isn't allowed. Does anyone know how to delete selected files from Time Machine?

  • TS3992 Since updating to iOS 6, my iPad has not been able to back up to cloud.  I have more than enough storage, have deleted apps, tried manual back-ups, but back-up will not complete.  I keep getting messages to back-up, but NOTHING has worked.  Help!

My iPad will not back up to cloud inspite of trying everything mentioned.  I have more than enough space on device.  It was last backed-up on 12-12-12.  Have never had this problem before.  Keep getting messages that it needs backing up.  Have tried multiple manual back-ups for at least 24 hrs or more, but back-up will not complete.  Help!

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

  • Can I have multiple iPhones with unique back ups using one icloud account?

    Hello forum users,
Can I have multiple iPhones with unique back ups using one icloud account?
I would like to back up and restore 4 different iPhones, 1 iPad, a MacBook and 1 MacBook Pro using the same single iCloud account.
If so, how is this done?
    Many thanks

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

  • I recently moved my iTunes folder to a portable drive to make space on my macbook pro with Mavericks, and now the space is still taken up by back ups? any help to clear this space up would be greatly appreciated! Oh btw, macbook pro backs up to time caps

Im trying to free up some of the space on my macbook pro, its been filled up with itunes hd movies, so i purchased a 1TB portable hard drive and moved all my itunes files to it to free up some space. When i went into about this mac and checked storage, it says i have over 400GB's of back ups. I back up everyday through time machine to my time capsule, not sure what to do, any help is much appreciated! thanks

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself, nor should you disable them or Time Machine.

The Apple techs are looking. But they can't find it. Nor can they find a back up on my laptop, Evidently when I backed up my Iphone to computer the calendar wasn't syncing. Since I only use the calander on my phone - I never noticed.
The Apple store rep that sold me the I-Phone 5 on Monday, was transferring my contacts and calendar thru I-Cloud (I never used I-Cloud before that moment - and always had it turned off). He successfully transferred the contacts - which are still on my phone), but the Calendar weirdly split into 6 calendars (2 of which were linked to my G-Mail which only had a few entries) (4 were linked to my MSN / Hotmail email and contained all the major events/data). I never created calendars that were separate or liked them to 2 different emails. I just typed entries into the I-Phone calendar. However, the calendar did exist on the new I-Phone for 24 hours. Something happened during transfer. When the Apple Genius Bar tech was attempting to back up my Calendar & merge the 6 calendars, everything disappeared in his hand while he was looking at it.
I am hoping that some really good data recovery expert exists that can restore the calendar that was in both I-Phones yesterday. It is completely devastating if I can't recover it.
Any help, or referrals, is great appreciated!!!!
    Thanks!

  • I had to reformat my OSX 10.5.8 and i can't restore my emails from my time machine backup from an external hard drive - only the latest (post backup) time machine back ups are available to restore. Please can any help

I had to reformat my OSX 10.5.8 and I can't restore my emails from my time machine backup from an external hard drive - only the latest (post backup) time machine back ups are available to restore. Please can any help? I can find the mail folder in my libraries, but the Restore Button is grayed out

OSX treats the reformatted drive as a different one; it's the same as replacing it, and the old one is no longer connected.
See #E3 in  Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see and restore from the "old" drive.
And, you may not want to restore via the Finder; see the blue box in #15 of  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Where would I look on desk top computer for back ups from iPad that tech helped me back up to try to fix my iPad?  Apple replaced my iPad but I can't find any of my photos.  Tech told me they would be on my desk top. Can u help me? Thank, MEC

Where would I look to find my back ups from my iPad onto desk top computer?  The tech. Who helped me try to repair my iPad helped me back them off the iPad onto desk top. Apple had to send new replacement iPad.  Tech told me the back ups would be on my desk top but I can't find them.  I have lost all my photos.  Can anyone please tell me where to look?  Thanks, Marti48

I think that the tech probably meant that your photos would be in the backup. If he helped you backup your iPad on your computer, then you have to restore from the backup in order to recover your photos.
Did you bring your computer with you when you got this help from the tech backing up your iPad, or did he talk you through this over the phone?

Used to have ios 7 betaon my i phone and downgraded to ios 6 so i can upgrade to the official ios 7 but i lost my pc back ups. Please help me

First off, Apple doesn't support downgrading and it can potentially brick your phone. With that being said, if you created a back up in iOS 7 Beta and are trying to restore it to iOS6, you wont be able to. You need to upgrade first then restore from your backup. Don't be suprised if it doesn't work. There is a very real possibilty you may have to start from scratch.

  • Hi there, My Hard Disk space on the Mac Book is running low, I found about 105gigs in Back Ups, after I moved my ballooning Aperture Library to an external hard disk.  Can you help?

Just checked on Lion - somehow I have over 100gigs in Back Ups, but much less in pictures.  I moved Itunes, Aperture Libraries to my external hard Disk.  Still running low on the 250 gigs space.  Any tips on how I can free this are much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Did you actually move / delete the data on your HDD?
When you click and drag to an external drive, it automatically copies instead of moves.
What are these backups & their location?
You could try and app similar to WhatSize.
