Multiple base stations w/multiple printers -- need help

My company has two airport extreme base stations, each connected to the wall-ports of 100baseT to the WAN port. So both currently have access to the internet. Each base station is also connected to a laser printer via the ethernet port.
Is it possible to setup the airports to use the same SSID and allow my clients to print to both printers? I know using WDS I could, but I want to keep each airport connected to the wall port so balance the amount of overall bandwidth.
Thanks!

Yes, this is possible:
1. make sure the router built into both is disabled (uncheck the setting to "Distribute IP addresses" found under the Network tab of the Airport Admin Utility). Presumably your cabled network has a router and DHCP server on it somewhere.
2. assign both Base Stations the exact same SSID, security protocol, and WEP/WPA password
This creates an active roaming network, and wireless clients will connect automatically and seamlessly to whichever access point provides the stronger signal.

  • Multiple ipods NEED HELP

    Hi all,
I have an ipod my sister a mini, and my youngest sister has shuffle i set up mine on my laptop. Is there a way to download songs to the shuffle and the mini on my laptop?
hp pavilion ze 600   Windows XP

so i tried that and a message came up about needing to download something from the apple site
    Okay.
    any other ideas?
Continue on with what your computer told you to do. It did not tell you to download "something". It told you what you needed.
Probably wants an iTunes and/or iPod update.
Go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ and download what you need.

  • I am going to be receiving wi fi broadband.  Can my timecapsule recieve this and still act as my normal base station or do I need a separate wifi access unit for the broadband?

I currently use ADSL ISP for  my broadband, connected to my time capsule via ethernet for wifi connection through the house and it is excellent.  I'm going to change to a wifi broadband ISP and would like to know whether the timecapsule can receive wifi from one source and rebroadcast to my normal house system.  If it can do this, how do I set it up.?

No it cannot work unless it is going to receive wireless from another apple router.

  • What Airport base station do I need?

After having major problems with Linksys and Belkin routers I want to try an Airport Extreme base station.
I will need to be connecting a new Macbook, Ipod Touch, PowerPC Mac Mini via wireless and a Mac Pro and Xbox 360 via ethernet. Will the current model mb053ll/a be the one I want or do I buy the older MA073LL/A? The retailer I'm buying from has both.
I want to make things as easy as possible, I'm going crazy after spending hours and hours trying to make a reliable home network.
    Thank you

The current model has gigabit ethernet, which I think is worth having. Specially when you using it as AirDisk or Time Machine, the gigabit network really making hard disk access so much faster.

  • How many base stations can form a WDS

hi, I am considering covering a very large area with very few users, so I would like to just have a central Extreme Base Station connected to the internet and maybe a dozen or so Expresses peripherally located as relays and remotes. I have been looking but can't find a statement from anyone on the scalability limits of these networks.
How many can be connected at one time?

You can set up a maximum of five nodes on a WDS - one main base station, and up to four relay or remote base stations.
If you need to cover a large area with multiple base stations, a WDS is not a good solution as pointed out above by Modem Geek. You should set up a cabled ethernet network connected to a cabled router as a backbone, then connect multiple base stations (each configured to function as a wireless network access point) to that ethernet backbone.

  • Issue with new Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11ac

I just purchased an AEBS (new model with 802.11ac).  I'm using it with Comcast internet service using a Motorola Surfboard SB6121.
I have a very odd and frustrating issue.  The internet simply blips in and out.  I have it set up with WiFi and have connected devices such as my iPhone, iPad, Mac Pro, and a Chromebook to it.  I have the issue on all devices so I know it's not device specific.
The network itself never goes away.  When I look at the WiFi area on my Mac even when the internet isn't working it shows it's connected to the WiFi network.  Also, when the internet is not working the green light is on and staying lit (not blinking) on the AEBS so it appears the WiFi Network part of it works fine.
As mentioned it's the internet service itself that blips in and out.  What I mean by this is it may come on for 40 secs, go off for 20 secs, back on again, and off, just like that. I have not timed it and that would be hard but it seems to be very regular, something like 40 on, 20 off, and it may not even vary at all.  It's a very bizarre issue.  I have also direct connected the modem via ethernet to my Mac Pro. I used it for several problems with no problem so I know it's not the modem.
The only thing I can think of is I received a defective AEBS.  I purchased it through Amazon and I almost contacted them to do a replacement and send this one back.  Yet I'm hoping it's something simple with the settings.  Now I have already done a factory reset of the AEBS and that did not help.  Yet I'm hoping it's simply a setting that I need to modify or wipe out.  Any idea of what's causing this or is it simply a defective base station?
    Thanks for your help.

There is a bug with the modem where the ethernet is not syncing properly.. The bug is particularly bad with SB6121 and SB6141.. so you got it right.. welcome to the bug farm..

There is no solution.. a new one could do the same. It is not 100% consistent.. I have recommended people use a small 10/100 switch between the modem and the AEBS.. or use a cross over cable. It works for some but not everyone.
Some modems seem to work better.. but IMHO it is not your problem it is apple's.. and they are keeping quiet as they do.
Send the AEBS back either for replacement.. and hope for a better one.. or just get a refund and buy something better.. eg Netgear R7000 or Asus RT-AC68U.

  • Airport Extreme base station and Airport Express

I have both the above but have real trouble getting them to both join the same network. I want to use the base station to hook up to he internet and the Airport Express to drive my stereo in another room Both work fine on their own and on separate networks, but I have to switch from one network to the other if I want to browse or listen to music. Very frustrating. I feel sure I should be able to have both airports on the same network but I just can't get it configured. I am a newbie with WIFI so any help gratefully accepted.

The main base station, the AirPort Extreme, needs to be set up to "Create a wireless network". The AirPort Express needs to be set up to "Join a wireless network", which will be network created by the AirPort Extreme.
Is this how you have them configured now?

  • Need help setting up Airport Express A1084 in Windows 7 via Netgear WNDR4500 wireless router

Hello All. I bought a used Airport Express A1084 off the net. Never had one before. My intention is to remotely control (via my iPhone using Apples Remote app or possibly XBMC) a "pc with music" and stream thru the AE connected to a boombox. I want to be able to take AE and boombox to the front yard, back yard, garage, or wherever my Netgear WNDR4500 will reach.
So far I have hit the reset on the AE and while holding, plugged it in to power (still holding) until the green light blinked. I let it go. Waited for it to complete booting (slow blinking yellow/amber light). The AE did not show up in Airport Utility ver 5.6.1. I uninstalled that version and installed older Airport Utility ver 5.4.2. Same results. I power cycled the router, turned off the Norton 365 firewall, and still get nothing. At one point though, I walked away for a while (an hour or so), came back and saw the AE listed in the left window pane of Airport Utility. I thought maybe I just didn't wait long enough so I clicked Manual Setup and it started to read the AE but Errored 10057. I tried again and got same error. I refreshed and the AE was gone.
Can someone tell me how to correct this so I can confirm I didn't buy a "brick"?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

Just so you are aware, the A1084 AirPort Express is a 802.11b/g wireless router that can only operate on the 2.4 GHz band. Regardless, it can be configured to join the wireless network provided by the Netgear as long as that network is configured to be backwards compatible with 802.11g clients. However, in the long run for performance, you do NOT want any non-"n" wireless clients connecting to your Netgear's network.
The 5.6.1 version of the AirPort Utility for Windows does not support the non-"n" version of the AirPort base stations. You would need to use an earlier version that will still run on Windows 7.
One thing to try would be to temporarily connect the Express directly to your PC using an Ethernet cable, and then, try accessing it with the AirPort Utility. If you are still unable to do so, you may have gotten yourself a defective unit.

  • Should I Try Adding An Airport Base Station to Speed up Network?

I have the incredibly slow network problem at home on my D-Link, WEP wireless system that I did not have on my Powerbook, iMac G5, or my old iBook. I have to have this system as my partner works from home on a Windows machine.
At the school where I teach everything is fast and wonderful. I'm wondering if adding an Airport Express or Base Station to the network would help. I'm getting desperate here. What I'm doing right now is booting up into Windows just to use the Internet. It's that slow, and really unusable.
Any thoughts? Does anyone have the equipment or the time to test this?
    Thanks,
    Robbie

If you had no issues prior to the intel jump, I think you'd be better off trouble-shooting your home network - and how it relates to your new machine. Clearly something is out of sorts in the set-up if it worked so efficiently on your other Macs.
I'm going to shoot from the hip and offer this potential quick fix to get you back up to speed, so to speak.
If you direct connect your intel machine to the router, do the speeds increase? If not...
Direct connect and try the following:
In the Network Pane of your System Prefs, set the Ethernet tab to "Manually" (Advanced); change your Speed tab to "100bastTX" (or faster if the option is there); select "Full Duplex" and click Apply.

  • Need help installing Adobe Pro on my new computer

In 2013 I purchased Adobe software for my office computer. The computer died in 2014 and now I need to install Adobe on my laptop.
    Can I get help, please
    Denise Brown

    Hi deebrn77,
Are you running into a specific problem with the installation, or just need guidance on how to get started? If necessary, you can download Acrobat from this page: Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X.
And, if you need your serial number to complete the installation, then this document can help with that: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
Finally, if you had purchased an Acrobat subscription, then this document provides great instructions for downloading and installing an Acrobat subscription: Acrobat XI Subscription | Download and install
I've tried to cover the bases; but if you still need help, please let us know!
    Best,

  • Need helpful purchase suggestions!

Swamped with work, from home and need to get wife on her own bookkeeping computer. (I apologize I have no time to research on my own)
1 - I have a G5 (with no airport card, I'll have to get one)
    2 - I want her to have a Mini
3 - Want the wireless connection (Airport)
4 - She will grab Quickbooks files over the network (from mine) - and she and kids will surf and play games (little stuff - not graphics intensive, oldest is 9)
I don't understand what I need in an Airport base station.
She will need to print to my printer. And I would like the iTunes option to patch into a home stereo.
Do I have to have both base stations?
I think that is the only question. Please make suggestions or ask questions.
    Thanks! Tg
    Dual 1.8gb G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

...can I not get the iTunes functionality from the Base Station Extreme?
No, only the AirPort Express has the audio out port.
The Extreme is faster too is it not?
    No, they are the same.

  • Software Base Station and Tiger

I have a mac with an internet connection which I can share with other macs via airport using the sharing control panel. fine.
However what i want is this:
internet connention -- mac -- airport express -- computer
ie I want to share the internet connection via airport to an airport express and thence to an other computer (that doesnt have a wireless card) linked to the airport express via ethernet cable.
Is this possible? I have tried but there appears to be a problem as you need to have the Mac sharing the intenet connection via airport whilst the airport iexpress is being set up. May I am attempting the impossible. Any tips?
    thanks

However, when the AE is set to join an existing
network I found the the tab relating to ethernet is
all greyed out and there is a message kindly
informing me that the ethernet port is disabled when
the AE joins an existing network.
    Any work around? or impossible?
    Impossible.
In order for the ethernet port to be active, you need to be using WDS, this is not possible with a mac created software base station.
You either need another Airport base station or a wireless adapter for the other computer.

  • AE Base and Hub Question...HELP!

I have an iMac connected to a hub along with my printer. I bought an AE Base Station for wireless internet for my iBook upstairs. I want to keep my iMac wired to the hub but connect the base station so the iBook can connect to the internet. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE SIMPLE!!!!!! I connected my cable modem to the hub and connected my iMac and the Base Station to the hub. I DOESN'T WORK!!!!! What am I doing wrong?????

A hub is not the proper device to share an internet connection. You need a router like the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).
You need to connect the equipment like this:
    cable modem->[WAN] AEBS [LAN]->hub
Make sure that your AEBS is configured to distribute IP addresses. All of your devices will get an IP address from the AEBS.

  • Multiple Base Station Help

We have multiple base stations in our office. I understand that we should seperate the channels, but what about the SSID. Should that be the same on all of them? Is there a benefit to having them be the same as opposed to naming them differently?

All your wireless devices on the same network must use the same SSID. Conversely, if you want to create a separate network you'll need to give it a different name.
