Multiple Blog Summary Widgets on one page

Hello
I was wondering if anyone knew how to put multiple Blog Summary Widgets onto a single page? Basically having a single weblog page but hosting more than one blog on that page.
If you do a simple copy and paste, it will pick up the "feed" from the Entries already associated with the existing blog. I have also tried pasting multiple widgets onto a blank page without success - I just get a 1 pixel line.
What I have done with my site (http://www.kilayko.com) in the meantime is to create an iframe and then load the second blog there. The only potential downside is that surfers will stay in that frame.
Any takers for this one, or is it just a happy limitation of iWeb?

  • Blog summary widget problem

I am getting reports that some users cannot load my iWeb '08 site. I have looked into it and not everyone is affected the same. In safari it's fine but in firefox on a mac it only loads a partial page with a js error. On a windows pc it's a crap-shoot as to if it will load or not. I can get my pc to load it with ie 7 but others cannot. Searching the forums and google I can see that I am not the only one with this problem.
It seems that the "Blog Summary Widget" is the error. I have tried everything including File / Publish All
    How can I fix this?

  • Blog summary widget and Firefox

I just started having this issue where the iWeb page when viewed with Firefox is truncated and the pages simply have Blog Summary Widget showing without any summaries and only one or two headlines and no links. However, if I view the page with Safari it looks and works fine. I've been posting on the blog for over a week without any viewing problems on Firefox previously.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't believe that I've downloaded any Firefox updates in the past 24 hours. I'm using Firefox 3.0.8. A friend using Leopard and Firefox is able to view the page without any problems, as is someone using Internet Explorer on a PC. So, I guess it's looking like it's a problem with my particular Firefox browser, eh?

  • Problem with iWeb SEO breaking iWeb blogs (Blog Summary Widget error).

As as happened to many others, my blog was broken. The only thing that showed up when publishing was "Blog Summary Widget", no actual blog.
I came on here and searched, uninstalled with apzapper, deleted preferences before that, tried everything.
    Still the problem.
Then I notice my blog works. I'm excited. I move on in my post iweb part of the process (iWeb SEO and dreamweaver edits) to then see it's broken again.
After some testing (changing 1 file at a time, one step at a time) I found that when iWeb SEO touched the home.html (where my blog is) it broke it.
This is a new phenomenon as I was doing this all the time before with no problem.
I even tried updating to the latest version of iWeb SEO and the same problem.
So if you're having this problem, and are using iWeb SEO, try it without and see if you still have the same problem.

I'm getting the same problem too. I've just updated my iWeb from 1 to 2. I've had to more or less re-create my Blog from scratch as the upgrade wrecked the summary and recent items pages (probably because I'd use jTemplate).
So I created a new Site, dragged the old blog over to it and created a brand new one in my proper site. I then copied all my formatting over AND all the entries. All looks fine in iWeb, but I see the same error messages as described here. Take a look here : http://www.andrewmay.biz/test/
Obviously I've moved a lot of stuff around from the normal White template, and deleted a few things too, but I would have hoped that iWeb wouldn't let me trash things that then broke it.

  • IWeb Blog Summary Widget error

I have seen this problem posted here before, but I'm posting it again. Why? Because it's an incredibly annoying error and I can't believe nobody has found a way around it.
The error is on the Blog entry page, the error code is BLOG SUMMARY WIDGET ERROR. It also lists a few lines that are problems, noting that a reference error is to blame.
I'm sure I am not the only person with this problem. I can't figure it out, my simple knowledge of Java isn't getting me anywhere in the code. Oddly, it isn't actually effecting my page in any way, with the exception of the error code. Anyway, anyone with suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
    The error happens here: http://www.mcbya.net/RepublicofThoronia/Blog
Another odd thing, the blog summary page refuses to acknowledge photos, even when I use the original image... very odd indeed.

I'm getting the same problem too. I've just updated my iWeb from 1 to 2. I've had to more or less re-create my Blog from scratch as the upgrade wrecked the summary and recent items pages (probably because I'd use jTemplate).

  • Blog summary widget & impossible upload!! please help!!!

    Hi
Our school has upgrade to iLife 09 and we're trying to upload our site to ME, all the pages are red now but every time we try to update the website, the process stops because any reason, a different reason each time (a PDF, a PNG, the connection to Me servers…) but this didn't happen before iWeb 09 update.
I've tried to upload to a local folder and it has gone smoothly. I don't have a FTP server to upload so I cannot test it.
What can I do to solve this situation?? we need to upload the site, because now there a "blog summary widget" instead of the blog.
    Any help??

    Hi,
i have suffered these problems so long now, the only way i have had any luck what so ever is to publish the site to a local folder and then FTP with filezilla.
It's a free FTP client that works really well.
    Check it out at:
    http://filezilla-project.org/
    It will work!

It's often recommended here not to use iWeb's blog — whether with MobileMe or another server. There are often problems with iWeb's blog and there are several alternatives you could use and hyperlink to from your iWeb site. Here are just a few...

  • Blog Summary Widget Error

After completely redoing my page and uploading, my blog doesn't show up any more. Instead it just says "Blog Summary Widget" where the blog would be.
I did a search, and the only things that was suggested was upgrading to iWeb09 (the version I'm using).
I read some mention of it being the blogsummary.js file that is to blame, but nothing on what/how to fix it.
    Any ideas?

Does reinstalling clean like that have any adverse effect on the webpages themselves? (Do you have to rebuild anything).
No — iWeb stores your sites separate from the iWeb app in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you've moved the Domain file from there, when you then re-install iWeb it may "forget" the Domain file's location and expect to find it in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
But wherever your iWeb Domain file currently is, you should make a back up of it:
_iWeb: Backing up your Domain file_
Time Machine is another option for back up as well as these free apps which will come in handy when your Mac's internal HD crashes:

You wouldn't have to abandon iWeb completely. As an alternative to setting up a basic hyperlink to your external blog, you can link to it from iWeb's navigation bar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).

  • Any blog templates safe in non-Safari browsers? Blog Summary Widget?

I've tried "Doodle" and "Darkroom" and in both cases, the blog summary page (first page) does not work in both Internet Explorer (Mac) and Firefox (Mac). In both, the Blog Summary Widget does not work. The pictures and text are missing and is replaced with text that says "Blog Summary Widget."
For the test, I did nothing to change or edit the templates. I just published them them as is. They look great in Safari, but no go in Firefox 1.0.2 and IE 5.2.3. I know these are probably not the most current versions of either, but I can guarantee that they're more recent than what my grandma has and she's more typical of my web audience I'm trying to do a family blog. I figured iWeb has cooler templates than Blogger.com and it would be easy since it's iLife. Too bad the blog page probably won't work on most computers' browsers. I don't have a Windows machine to test it on, but I'm guessing that they will be even more unforgiving. Is anyone else having better luck?
The only other factor is that I'm not using a .Mac account. I can't imagine that this could be the issue, but if it is, then that is really, really evil. It's bad enough that Apple punishes you for not having a .Mac account by making you FTP your entire site every time you make a change instead of incrementally (this is a separate thread topic).

    Hello
I've settled on a modified Modern weblog template (http://www.kilayko.com) and it has worked well in the following browser/OS combinations:
    Camino 1.5/Mac OS X
    Safari 2/Mac OS X
    Mobile Safari/iPhone
    IE 6 and 7/Windows XP
    Firefox 2/Windows XP
The only combination that seems to give me (a little) trouble is:
    Opera/Wii
It seems to ignore the thumbnail images on both the main weblog and archive pages but the area is still clickable.
I know that these are somewhat newer versions than what you are targeting but it may point to a limitation in the JavaScript implementations in the older browser versions. It appears that many of the template elements make use of JavaScript for functionality.
I should note that I am also using .Mac - although I don't think that should make a difference for the rendering.

  • IWeb 08 photos/blog not showing online + "Blog Summary Widget" error

    Hello,
I recently upgraded my iLife to 08 and am having trouble with iWeb on two accounts.
    1. My blog doesn't display online correctly, and instead I get the "Blog Summary Widget" error.
    2. Any new albums do not display the photos.
In both cases I cannot see my menu at the top but get a black dot instead.
I have updated to 2.0.4 in iWeb but this hasn't solved anything.
I have tried rebuilding the blog but that doesn't work either.
At this point I have simply put a message on my blog saying it's down, but need to find a problem.
Any solutions? I haven't foung one on here yet.
    Thanks.

Did you restart your Mac after running the updates?
Are you publishing to a server other than MobileMe? If so, the missing navigation menu is usually due to the feed.xml file not being uploaded.

I don't seen any problem. Perhaps it is just your local browser cache? Try clearing your cache and using another browser.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how the pc
    user can form the link?
http://web.mac.com/robruhn should work just fine, unless the person at the other end is mistyping it or something. I would suggest that you get rid of the space in your site name and republish, as that might cause problems for some systems (i.e. change Site 3 to Site3 or Site-3 or Site_3).

I couldn't find this discussion elsewhere. I have a site and want to add a second blog summary widget to my site. I want to add the bsw to my homepage and just show my latest single entry.

  • Blog Summary Widget?

When I go to view my podcast site, there are no entries, just this:
    "Blog Summary Widget"
I've been using iWeb for a couple years now & did not experience this upon upgrade...it just happened!
    HELP!

I'm not sure if this is still an issue for anyone but I've only just experienced it so if anyone searching has issues ---
What it turned out to be in my case was that the Scripts folder had not been transferred during FTP. Don't know why, something to do with mirroring operations in Transmit maybe but that's the first place I would suggest looking to anyone else who sees the above error.

  • Multiple blog summary pages

I'm creating a new website for sharing news and photos for my family. I want to use the iWeb blog for my entries and plan to do some customization of my site through HTML snippits, iFrames, etc. I've been reading quite a bit on this forum and other useful sites on how to do more with iWeb, but I can't seem to find a solution for the following problem.
Let's say I allow 15 blog entries to be shown on my blog summary page yet over time I build a site with 50 or more entries. Then at least 35 will be on the archive page and that's alot to scroll through. I'd like to have the first 15 on blog summary page 1 then the next 15 on blog summary page 2, etc. Call it multiple archive pages if you will. But I want iWeb to keep track of the blog entries on those additional pages instead of me having to create new non-blog pages and copy and paste links to my entries.
    Here's an example
    http://allaboutiweb.com/
Any way to do this with iWeb 09?
FYI, I know there are a lot of other blogging software and hosting sites out there, but I want to use iWeb 09 because I've already created one site in the past with iWeb so I'm familiar with it. I also have a Mobile Me account with a domain name through goDaddy, so I'm publishing my iWeb site to Mobile Me with password protection.
    Appreciate the help.

first, iweb limits blog summary to display 50 entries, so you are kinda limited if you want to have a continuous blog over the years.
if you have less than 50 entries per year, you have to break your blog into the year and have a master archive page and link all archive blog(s) to it.
once you decide what to do, you can use iweb rss feed widget to display the archive as feed, but i don't recommend iweb rss feed widget because it depends on mme server, unreliable at best.
instead you can use yahoo's pipes: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/
yahoo pipes is reliable and flexible, you can build your own feed that you can merge other feeds into one or keep them separate, here is my example of merged feeds:
    http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/Entries/2009/7/25Not_iWebWidget.html
or you can tag blog entries by key words or categories, your users can narrow down the entries display with it, here my iweb blog tagging (click on any tagged word on the right side):
    http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/Archive.html
all code is linked to my examples. to do the above, you need to know yahoo pipes, ajax/javascript and iweb inner working parts.
