Multiple Click boxes in Captivate 5

Hi
I'm a new user of Captivate (using 5) and trying to figure out capabilities and suitability to my needs.  I've also searched through the forum and can't find similar so I apologise in advance if this has been answered.
Ideally I would like to produce a slide in my Captivate project where a user is presented with multiple boxes containing text.  Say 6 boxes.  This would initially just be for a learners reflection, so no scoring required.  The User would have to select 3 of these boxes (any box, no right or wrong) to progress to the next slide.  I envisage the user clicking on each box which would then remain highlighted until all 3 selected.
Does this make sense?  and can anybody reccomend a work around?  Is this something which could be achieved with 'click boxes'
Any advice appreciated.
Marek

Thanks Rod.  Great suggestion.  I actually picked up the widget on Thursday as the 'drag and drop' interaction was something I initially saw as the ideal route.
Its such a good tool and very simple to use.  There are one or two little additions I would like to see.  Unless you can already do this and I haven't quite figured it out.
- The ability to place a drag item on alternative targets
- allow the drag items to be visable after been placed onto target.
Can this already be done??
I would certainly recommend the widget though. Its excellent.
I'm just getting around to trying some of the initial suggestions and will report back.
Thanks

  • Captivate 7 - Multiple Click Boxes not working

I would really appreciate some help on this. I've been reading the forums and it looks like this pops up again and again. I've tried some of the solutions, but I can't seem to make it work.
I have a slide with 8 click boxes on it. I would like for the user to click on box and then get a definition in the form of a text box. I'd like for them to be able to click on 1 box or all the boxes before they move on. I'd like for them to choose to move on with a "Continue" button that goes to the next slide.
On the preview playback, only 3 or 4 of the click boxes will work. Then, the click boxes stop working. It's not the same 3 or 4 boxes, but just the first ones that work. If I remove a pause on the continue button, it will work. Otherwise, it stops as well.
Initially, I tried to do this as a simple action. Then, I read that Advanced Actions will allow the playback to continue. The Advanced Action is 1 line that is Show and then the Text Box.
Below is my timeline. I'd appreciate help with this!

Did you see this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5826235#5826235 ?
What is the function of the Buttons on that slide (they have no pausing, are active all the time): especially the Last Attempt action?
What is the Last Attempt action for the click boxes?
    Important: how did you preview?

  • Click Box in Captivate 7 proceed anyway even if unsuccessful

Captivate 7 : With a click box when the failure message disappears then clicking anywhere advances the slide as if you had clicked in the correct place. I left the failure message appearing for 3 seconds as default. How do I make sure it ONLY continues if the action taken was the successful one. I tried changing the action from Continue (which it seems to defualt to) to Go to Next slide but that did not cure it. I did think it was because I had multiple buttons on the same page but it happens if there is only 1 too (once the failure message disappears) This is a genuine Interactive exercise by the way so I do need to click and it is not an exotic test as I am a novice with Captivate (but learning fast) so if you know the answer try to be very clear about what I need to do!
Sorry I did ask this before but the answers were already what I was doing and so nothing helped me.
The only thing I can add is that this seems to work perfectly until I publish the project. I need to publish as HTML without SWF because this will play from a website on an iPOD or iPhone. At that point you can click anywhere it seems and the correct messages appear but it moves you forward regardless.
PS - is the any way I can actually talk to a REAL person at Adobe??????? I really struggle. chat is only open Pacific time and I am in Europe so not during my working day

How many attempts do you offer for the click box? If it is set to Infinite, the user will have to be successful before being able to proceed.
However, if you have multiple interactive objects on the slide, you have to know that if they execute a 'simple' action (using the dropdown list in the actions accordion) the playhead will be released at the same moment and will continue. If you don't want this to happen, because there are other objects to be clicked (that have the pause at the same time), you need to replace the simple action by a standard advanced action: Why choose Standard over Simple action? - Captivate blog
As for the events that can trigger an action (like Success/Failure): Events and (advanced) Actions - Captivate blog

  • Multiple click boxes in the same page

I'm trying to include 4 click boxes in the same page in Captivate 5. The idea is when user clicks on each box, the content reveals and stays on the screen. The first click box works fine. But when click the second box, the content shows only for less than a second and then quickly moves to the next screen, and of course, there is no chance to even get to the 3rd and the 4th one. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

    Hi Lilybiri,
Does this mean that the user has to click the click boxes in the order that you stagger the pauses? For example, if I'm showing a picture and instructing the user to click on any area to get more information, they could really click on any area first - however will that click box pop up if that click area was not the "first" pause in my timeline?
Also, how do I get the "success" caption text to stay on the page? I don't want it to fade so that the user can see all of the info. once they've clicked each box. I've checked to make sure that the "fade out" option is off, and I'm assuming I can't have the click boxes "display for the rest of the slide" since that would ruin the pause increments.
    Thanks!

  • Navigation: stop automatic slide advancement with multiple click boxes

5.0 newbie question.  I  know I have a lot to learn about navigation before I develop another CBT, but I have done a beta test and found a situation I hadn't encountered before, so I am looking for help to get me past this with a band-aid until I can do this the right way later. I have read many issues about navigation and don't seem to see exactly what my issue is.
I am using the playbar for limited user self navigation, so all my slides have click boxes with "pause until the user clicks" properties.  On some of my slides though, I have created pseudo-button like things via click boxes that popup email or browser windows (via Open URL).  When I was testing these out, they worked as I hoped: opened the external window, but did NOT advance the slide. But I have come to realize that in my testing, I was always clicking on those buttons before the audio had completed and my testers are clicking on them AFTER the audio is complete.  The behavior in the latter case causes the slide to advance (as well as correctly popup the external window).  I don't want it to advance when the user selects that particular click box and they are not REQUIRED to click on that box, it is optional.  It doesn't seem to matter how I set the properties, I get the same behavior.  Suggestions O wise Captivate gurus??  ;^)
    TIA

  • Multiple Click Box Quiz Answers on the Same Slide

Hello. I am using Captivate 5.5
I have a quiz slide with two click boxes that are both correct answers.  When a learner clicks either of them, I want them to advance to the next slide and score as "Correct".
The problem is since they only click one of the boxes, they never receive enough points to pass the quiz (since each box has earns credit towards the final score).
Does anyone have a solution or work around for this?
    Thanks.

I have already watched the videos, but we still end up 1 answer short.  Essentially no correct scores are being reported from that slide that contains the Master Widget.
Here is the exact set up we have:
Two click boxes that are correct answers.  Neither are set to report to quiz.  If either box is clicked the slide advances (and theoretically a correct score of 1 should be added).  If they click anywhere else on the slide it should advance the slide without adding the point to the total score.
The Master Widget is set up the following way.
Slave Objects: Both of our correct click boxes are listed as slaves
Scoring: Under "Slave Scoring" we have both click boxes set to "1" on Success and "0" on Failure
Success/Failure: We have chosen "Success" and "Based on Slave Success/Failure"  - "Report Success if any 1 slaves report Success"
Evaluate: We selected "Evaluate each time a slave evaluates"
Misc: We left all of these in their default position.

  • Adding Click box makes Captivate freeze up and end in error and closing down.

Since the patch yesterday, everytime I go to add a Click Box to a slide, Captivate freezes, says not responding at the top and eventually the ol' "Captivated ended in error, send error info to Microsoft".  I have lost my work so many times today. I have cleared all temp files, etc. shut down, powered down, etc. to try and clear whatever it is, but it is still happening.  The project and Captivate was working ok yesterday. Just the "usual" Captivate locking up and falling down.  I am using this on Windows XP.
Message was edited by: donnaj  Actually, now when trying to record a new slide Captivate locked up and I got the message. In fact I had to HARD BOOT the system...
Cannot do with Captivate today really. Apart from changing sizes of highlight boxes.

    Hi there
"I do not see any documentation stating a limitation."
This is true. You seldom (if ever) see things like this in any manufacturer documentation. After all, their goal is to sell the product and tell you how great it is and how it will address your needs. Limitations are viewed as a negative, so they are typically omitted. I'm sure Toyota didn't have any docs that said that "oh yes, and by the way, sometimes the gas pedal will stick". Or Microsoft doesn't say "by the way, Windows will sometimes crash on you and you will have to totally reinstall our operating system when that happens".
Things like project limitations are learned by end users sharing their collective experiences and wisdom here and in other places on the web. Captivate has always had a size limitation. Often we recommend that folks keep projects somewhere between 50-65 slides as a common "rule of thumb" guideline. Our hope is that a future version will remove any such limitations. But my guess is that you will then see some other unexpected issue emerge. Such is the nature of the software beast.
Another thing that is never mentioned anywhere except in third party materials is the fact that Captivate projects should not be placed on a network unless you are doing that as a backup mechanism. You never want to place a project on a network drive, then open Captivate and proceed to open the project and make edits while the project is on the network drive. Working in this manner holds the risk of completely corrupting your project and rendering it unusable.

  • Multiple click boxes on one slide; Pausing project

    I'm using Captivate 5.5.
I have four click boxes on a slide.  Three click boxes upon clicking show an image and then show a success caption.  The forth click box shows a success caption but also is set to "pause project until user clicks."
Unfortunately, if any of the three click boxes are clicked it advances the playhead even though the forth click box was never clicked.  How can I pause the project until only the forth click box is activated no matter if the other three click boxes have been previously clicked?

    Hello,
Default behavior of click boxes is to trigger the simple action that is assigned to it AND at the same time to release the play head. Even if those 3 click boxes had a pause, at the same moment as the fourth, this would have happened. If you put the pausing point of the fourth click box later than the pausing of the first three, it will work fine if the user clicks only one out of 3 click boxes.
If you replace the simple action by a (eventually one-line) advanced standard action, the play head is not released:

  • Displaying a caption when multiple click boxes has been clicked in a slide.

I have 9 click boxes in my slide which when clicked opens a different page except 1 click box.1 click box takes the user to the previous page . I want to display a text caption when the user has clicked other 8 click boxes just to make sure they go through all the pages. Is there a way in captivate to do this? If yes, how do I do it?

Since you are not yet familiar with advanced actions (and variables?), will try to explain in detail and provide some links to articles/blog posts as well.
Create 8 user variables, one for each click box (Project, Variables); I will label them v_one, v_two.....v_eight It is not necessary to give a default value
Create another user variable v_counter that will be incremented whenever a click box has been clicked for the first time
Create a first click box (set to visible), label it CB_One (find that easier) and in the Properties panel, Action accordion, On Success change the action to 'Execute Advanced actions'. Then open the actions dialog box with the Folder icon that appears.
You have to create a conditional action, so select that type, and label it CB_One (is possible, an exception because normally you cannot have same labels); this action will need two decisions (have a look at my video tutorial: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/858/cpsid_85847.html):
First decision 'Visited' checks if the click box has already been clicked, visible when the value of v_one = 1; if this is not the case (first click) v_one gets the value=1 and the counter v_counter is incremented
Second decision 'Check' checks the value of the counter, and shows an initially invisible button (I choose a button, BtNext but you can also have a click box) if the counter reaches 8, bummer the forum doesn't allow me to insert an image, have to type:
IF section                       v_counter is equal to 8
    Actions section             Show BtNext
Duplicate the click box 7 times, label them CB_Two,  ..... CB_Eight  (beware: case sensitivity). To each copy the same advanced action is attached, but you'll have to create duplicate actions for each one CB_Two....  In the duplicates you have to replace the variable v_one by the proper variable (v_two...) in the first decision; the second decision remains the same
    Test.

  • Is there a way to have TTS for multiple click boxes on same slide?

    Hi all,
Using v.7 and Win 7 here. Have a project where I am using Paul's Text-to-speech TTS voice. So far so good. I need to build an interactive slide with mulitple click boxes so the learner can gauge where they are at in the projects progress. Is there a way to use TTS for these mulitple click boxes on the same slide? I see that you can import audio as an MP3 or .wav file but don't know how you would generate the TTS and save it seperately so it could be imported.
    Thanks for the help

Just generate the TTS on a separate slide and then assign the audio file created in the LIbrary to whatever object you need.

  • Multiple text boxes in captivate 5

I have several text boxes in a powerpoint slide in captivate 5. I would like for users to be able to fill in these text boxes in any order. I was able to do this in version 4, but in version 5, it only allows users to respond in the order of the text boxes. Is there anyway to correct this?

  • How do I use Right Click Functionality in Captivate 5

    Hello there,
I am trialing Adobe Captivate 5, with a view to purchasing it, and I have been loving it, but have hit a snag.  My Right Click actions are not working except with the web preview.  I noted from the manual a lot of restrictions and from reading here I am not able to change AS3 to AS2.  Does this mean Captivate 5 does not let you use Right Click options.
I would greatly appreciate your help because I do love this software but if I can't create elearning with multiple Click Boxes and Right Click functionality, I may have to look elsewhere.
    Thanks again.
    Penny

    Rodward,
I downloaded and unzipped the file you linked. On my work laptop with XP, IE 8, and Captivate 4, it ran perfectly.
On my personal laptop with Windows 7, IE 8, and Captivate 5, it did not run. (I got the JavaScript line 81 error.)
On my personal laptop, I created my own right click project in Captivate 5, published with accessibility turned off, and it would not run (line 81).
I copied my Captivate 5 published files to my work laptop, and it would not run there either.
I don't have any third party toolbars installed on either machine. I'm running Symantec antivirus on my work laptop (where your project worked but mine didn't) and AVG on my personal laptop (where neither project worked.)
Is there something you did in your JS file? Or some little tweak you made in your Captivate project?

  • How to avoid double-click to click-box

    Hello,
until now I did not find a solution for this problem:
I have created a training course for a specific application, and in this coure are some click boxes on which the user should click. On many click boxes should the user click only once but if he double-click the click box, in real application nothing happens. There is only one way to succes the action - one click. But in captivate when the user double-click the click box instead of one click it evaluate as success action (the click box is set only to one click, double-click checkbox is not checked).
So my question is, is there any way how to avoid double-click in cases where the user should click only once? Or in case he double-click the click box to show failure caption?
    Many thanks.
    Lukas

    Hi all
Interesting thread. Unfortunately, what would be needed here is some sort of a widget that would run some internal timer. Sure, you can try multiple Click Boxes and configure one with a Single Click and one with a Double Click. But the problem with that (as I see it) is regardless of what you might try, the Single Click will win out every time. Thus you would need a widget of some sort that would "listen" for a Double Click and respond appropriately.
    Tough call... Rick

  • Change default "on success" behavior for click box?

    Hello,
I create a lot of pptx --> Adobe Captivate eLearnings, and as you know, when the slides are imported, they are given a click box, which when clicked, advance the user to the next slide. I want to keep the click boxes to stop the project at the end of each slide,  but dont want the user to be able to interact with it. (I have a customized navigation bar)  I can achieve this by changing the "on success" behavior to "no action".  Question -- do i have to do this for every click box?  Unfortunately, I cannot apply this to all click boxes like I can apply the timing settings, for example.
    Thanks for any help!!
    Ryan

As far as I know....and hopefully someone can correct me (I would be curious for sure)... but I don't think you can change the properties of multiple click boxes across slides all at the same time. Other items like buttons and smart shapes can be visually adjusted using the Object style manager, but as far as On Success options and such...unless you select them all in a given slide, you can't. Clickboxes can't even be added to master slides unfortunately. If the clickbox can be in a common place across slides, I would delete all of the clickboxes except the first, make the necessary changes to that one, then do a ctrl+c for copy, and then just paste it into all of the remaining slides. Again, I hope there's an easier way someone can share.

  • Can a click box be used if multiple options to a questions?

I was trying to have the student need to click on multiple options for a question.
The situation called for the student to have to click on four different items that were correct out of a group of six items.  I put success captions on the four correct and failure messages on the 2 that were incorrect.
Following are my settings for each of the click boxes:
Action:       On success  - continue      Attempts:    infinite
    Options:  Success or Failure
Pause for success/failure, Show hand over cursor, pause until user clicks
The screen fades out before the user can read and select all their choices  (I have the timing for the screen set at 10 sec)
I have an image button on the page labeled Continue that the user needs to click on before continuing.  It is set at:   Action: on success, continue, infinite attempts
Is this the right standard object to use for this purpose, and if it is, what settings do I need to make it work?
    Thanks for the help

You need to use Advanced Actions to achieve your desired result.
The default behaviour of Captivate interactive objects is to Continue play as soon as you click them.  But there's a trick you can use to prevent this by having the On Success or On Failure action execute an Advanced Action instead that assigns the value of the variable rdcmndGotoFrame with the value of rdInfoCurrentFrame.
