Multiple COM Ports after installing to peer to peer Brother Laser Printers.

My particular situation is one Iv'e never encountered in thirty years of working on micro-computers. I have a peer to peer LAN hooked through a Gateway (4-Port \ WIFI (Frontier=Telco) ADSL\MODEM\Router made by Net Gear. I have 4 Wireless ip's and 3 cat 6
wired ip presences on the LAN. All the network is MS WIN 7 64 bit software and all the computers are 64 bit hardware, I have the home Group numbers matched up and everything shared on the LAN side of the Gateway. The problem on one of the clients (Dell
Notebook, 2 years old) is that when I installed the two cd's with the Brother suite of software (HL-2270 DW Monochrome laser printer and a (MFC-9130 CW Color Laser all in one Printer\scanner\fax\copier everything was fine for a while until the two printers
began to jump their dynamic assigned IP's. So, I statically assigned on the two printers with the ip address they worked on after rein stalling both software cd's ; uninstalled the old software first of course. I am hunting for a fix, something in the OS or
Registry short of a clean reload of the whole Dell notebook to bring the ports back to 3 LP and 4 com ports! They read 4 lpt ports and 24 COM ports presently.

Have you gone into Devices and Printers, right clicked on one of the printers and selected "Printer properties" and then the
Ports tab and tried deleting the unwanted Com ports there?

Did you repair permissions after the upgrade?
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Screen won't come on after installing IOS 7

As soon as the ios 7 was released, I updated my iphones and ipads. My iphone 4 had strange problems pop up sporadically necessitating a reboot to correct. Now the screen doesn't light up at all (even the apple symbol doesn't appear when holding down the power key). I went through a complete restore procedure and used a recent backup as the restoration data. When that was complete, I could "see" the phone on my computer, i.e., all of the files, apps, songs, photos, etc. and that the battery was at 100%. I ejected the phone from the computer and tried to start. Held down power button for 10 seconds; nothing happend; held down power button and home key for 10 seconds; nothing happened. One time when I just held down the home key, the "This is CNN" announcement come over the speaker; but, still no screen view. The phone is now out of warranty and applecare protection (2.5 years old). I don't believe in coincidences. The phone functioned perfectly prior to ios 7 and malfunctioned after ios 7. Is it possible the new operating system could cause this?

I have the exact same problem, I have to let the computer sit for a long period of time before trying to turn it on. If not, i get a solid black screen, with the front light on, and the noise from the hard disk. Any suggestions? I don't have any additional RAM installed.

Screen won't come back after installing updates

Hi,
Fell behind in installing updates, so I did them all in one go yesterday. Message came up to warn me that my screen was going to go dark and not to restart. This was near the end of my work say so I left it overnight. I've come in this morning and while the computer is 'working' (accessable across the network etc.) nothing is coming up on screen - it looks completely dead. I zapped the PRAM and still no joy.
Has anyone come across this before? And how do I get my display to wake up? Any suggestions welcome.

Accessing usb ports after installing virtualbox

I have recently installed virtualbox and subsequently Windows 7 on my Macbook pro. My main purpose was to be able to use CorelDraw. However when I switch to windows using Virtualbox, I cannot access my USB ports or my CD Drive. Has anyone had the same challenge and how do I overcome it? I am running Mountain Lion on my Pro.

Multiple power cycles after installing G41TM-E43 MSI Motherboard

I have exactly the same problem discussed elsewhere in this forum. When I first power on, the system automatically restarts it self 4 times for varying periods prior to finally coming up with an error message that says:
"Warning! The previous overclocking had failed and system will restore it's default settings"
This then results in a question that asks if I want to save the settings. If I say yes or if I say no, it takes me to the same spot - the bios menu with all of the settings for the motherboard.
Here is what I have for hardware:
New Basiq 500W Antec power supply - 5v-30A, 12v-18A, 12v-18A, 3.3v-30A
2 - Maxtor 500gb drives - STM 3500 630AS ATA
Pentium D 820
No PCI cards
AOPEN DVD RW
2 - 2GB Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5 800MHZ bus memory simms
I've unplugged everything but the motherboard and it does the same thing over and over. I've changed the memory timing as specified on the devices.
My quetion is this: is this motherboard compatible with the Pentium D 820 processor?
Des anyone have a solution to this problem?

I have a macbook pro using version 10.7.4 and I can't print multiple size pages in a pdf file using the brother laser printer hl-5470 dwt

I have a Macbook Pro using the 10.7.4 version. I recently bought a Brother HL-5470DWT Laser Printer. I can't seem to tell the printer to print multiple size pages in my pdf files.
No matter what I do it still prints all the documents as 8.5x11! It isn't pulling the paper from both printer trays.

Executable does not release serial port after being stopped

Greetings:
I have created an executable that communicates through a serial port. However, if I stop the executable (not close it), the executable still has control over the COM port. This causes issues if I need to jump on Hyperterminal to send a couple quick queries to my system. In order to send the queries, I have to actually close the executable in order to release the COM port. It's problematic because I then have to start the executable back up, go through another configuration query, etc. and there are parameters from the previous run I would prefer to not lose.
Is there a way to force a LabView executable into releasing it's hold on a COM port after it's stopped, without closing the executable completely? If it makes a difference, I'm using LV 7.1 on a WinXP machine. Thanks for any help!

Raven has already said it but I'll say it a different way. No user should ever interact with the front panel unless the VI is running. And when it is running the user should never have access to the abort button in the toolbar. When you open Internet Explorer do you first need to click the run button? No it runs when you run it. Write your program so it is always running, and doesn't have an abort so if the user closes the program you can run the proper clean up like closing COM ports.

Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
From the application's menu bar, select
File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

After installing mavericks on mac mini network printers disappeared

After installing Mavericks on my Mac Mini, all printers on the home wifi network disappeared and cannot get them back. Tried deleting and re-installing printers and all updates. Network does not see them from the Mac Mini. Is there some workaround or solution to this? Everything worked perfectly until the Mavericks upgrade.

Was there any evidence of a new or update printer driver at the Epson site for use with Mavericks OS X? Even if so, that may not be enough as the peripherial makers can be steps behind a new & different OS.
I have two Epson printers, one is an all-in-one WF845 (bought at 50% off) and an older Photo Stylus 820, this still makes great prints; both work wireless in different ways. However I have what are essentially antiques in both hardware and software.
Not sure if there are any third party drivers that could help as a fix or a patch for the situation you face, if Epson hasn't a working alternative to being printerless. Too bad that paperless society didn't evolve to save a few trees and thousands of gallons in expensive ink.

I've never seen them before.
What are they?

I am having a similar issue, but in my situation, my users cannot log in. All of my users are network users on Mini's. I am running 10.6.8 on my server. I have created users before with no issues, but have not done so in months. When I try to log the new user in, I get the following error:

I have an iP4500, which I assume is quite similar to your model.
I had to reset the printing system to get things printing again. Only takes a few minutes and no problems at all since I did it a week ago or so.
Plug the printer into the USB port on the Express and restart the printer.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Print and Fax
Right-Click in the printer area on the left and select Reset Printing System
Then click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list to install the printer again.

Have you gone into system prefs nad made sure that the headphone port is set to audio out. And not audio in.
Also make sure that you are selecting built in speakers for your audio output.
If that does not fix it try doing a Pram reset.
Shut your mac down.
Press the startup button.
Hold down the following keys. Command Option P and R. Wait till you hear the chime 2 times. Then let go. See if that fixes it.

How can I write to multiple daisy-chained network serial addresses through a single COM port?

I have a VI to write to 3 PI Mercury motor controllers using daisy chained RS232 connected via a Prolific USB-to-Serial adapter. I know that it is possible to talk to the individual controllers because the PI terminal that I have recognises the addresses of multiple controllers and designates them Device 1,2,3. The VISA resource name when configuring the port just comes up as COM5 most of time, with seemingly no way to specify an address on that COM port. Occasionally the VISA resource is ASRL5::INSTR and as this is disconnected and re-connected, this address moves up a number (e.g ASRL7::INSTR). Can anybody tell me how I can configure my serial communication to allow me to individually communicate with the different devices through a single COM port?

What does the manual say about addressing? RS-232 is not multidrop, the resource name is correct, and there is no additional configuration needed. There would have be a specific write in order to address a certain controller.
