Multiple computer iTunes sharing problems.

a friend of mine synced her iPhone with her computer, then came over to my house and my sister somehow changed it to where her laptop is the primary iTunes for her iPhone to sync her music also.
according to my friend it not only changed computers in which the iPhone syncs on but also her account data on that iPhone.
is there a way to switch user names?
(P.S. might not be the question im asking for, and sorry for any grammer mistakes or spelling, i am no english teacher)

  • Multiple computer users sharing one library...second user doesn't show library

I have a XP machine set up with 3 users.
On the master user, I installed Ituens and changed the library location to an external hard drive (for space reasons).
I closed Itunes, switched users, opened Itunes and pointed the library to the same shared folder / drive.
I have restared Itunes and the computer.  The second user does not see any music / apps / playlists from the main drive.  What did I do wrong or miss?
    Thanks

i use my files from a central hard drive and I don't check keep copies because I don't want it, needs it, require it...it wastes lots of hard drive space.

  • HT3819 iTunes sharing problem

I have iTunes on Windows 8.1 with two user accounts on same computer, I have moved my library moved to shared folder and Home Sharing enabled on both users accounts. One user sees all songs (over 200), second users sees only stuff from Cloud (about 30).  What am I doing wrong?  When I update the Preferences on user 1 a box with a progress bar appears and completes, but not when user 2 does it.

See Make a split library portable. You need to get your library into a portable layout and connect both users to the one set of library files. Reassigning the media folder won't do it.

  • ITunes sharing problem

I use iTunes 7.6 on my iMac and macbook and after updating to this latest version of iTunes have not been able to share my iMac iTunes library using my macbook. Every time I tried a message that says "The Shared Library ... is not responding (-3259). and asking me to check the firewall software is configured to allow connection on port 3689" My firewall setting allows incoming connection for iTunes on both computers. What is strange is that my imac can access the library on the macbook. Can anyone help???

You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet.  It's not designed to.  if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2.  Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

My wife had an iPad for a year and synced to our computer with no problem.  I recently received an ipad2 and when I tried to sync using separate apple and iTunes passwords, under her computer user name, it appears I over-road her account and synced all her apps with my apps on my iPad.  I then set myself up as a new user on our computer and tried to sync.  I now get the error that my iPad is synced to another library.  How can I start over without erasing all my data on the iPad?

Go back to her login.  Unless you deliberately erased apps, they should all be there, both yours and hers!  Then, you need to set up each iPad separately.  You will notice that they have separate names for that very purpose.
There is no problem with multiple Apple IDs on the same iTunes on the same computer except...  Apps are permanently associated with the ID that was originally used to obtain them.  If you choose to update an app from inside iTunes and you're logged into the "wrong" ID, you must log out and back in again.
On the bright side, you can configure either or both iPads to sync with apps and music and movies, etc. from either or both IDs.  Further, if you choose to update the apps from the iPads themselves, there is no need to log out/in.  The device handles that.  All you need is the correct password.  In my case, I use the same password for both IDs to make things easier.

  • Question about upgrading iTunes multiple computers with shared library

    Greetings,
I have a question about upgrading to the current version of iTunes.
Currently, my household uses 3 Mac computers (2 Powerbook 17in laptops and a Mack Mini). We are all (currently) on system 10.4.11 (with iTunes 9.2.1). Between the 3 computers we have a shared iTunes music and video library on a networked high capacity hard drive.
We recently purchased an iPad. In order to make it easy for updates and to use media from our iTunes shared library I decided that we should upgrade the systems on our home computers to Snow Leopard. I have ensured that all the computers have at lease 2 Gb of RAM and adequate hard drive space.
The only possible problem I see is that one of the Powerbook laptops uses the old Motorola processor. (This is one of the last Powerbooks to use that processor.) I don’t think this computer can be upgraded to Snow Leopard.
My question is, if I upgrade 2 of the computers (and iTunes in the process), will I still be able to access the shared iTunes library using the older computer with the older system and iTunes? Will the upgrade process change the iTunes library in such a way that the one older computer will no longer be able to properly access that library?
Are there any other problems I might encounter having a mixed system/iTunes environment?
    Thank you,
    Tim

Just a thought. Should I somehow open iTunes on MBP2 using MBP1's Library file??
both Macs can access the same library file, however, only one at a time !
to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
or, you could have two separate libraries and keep those in sync using third party tools such as Syncopation, TuneRanger or SuperSync.
for purchases from the iTunes store, you could set up _*Home Sharing*_ - it can be configured to automatically transfer new purchases to home shared libraries.
Can I create a script to have MBP1 always save the iTunes Library file on the shared hard drive?
    no need.

  • Please Help -- Problem w/ ITunes Sharing & Linksys Router on PC

Hi All I appreciate any feedback.
    1. I'm no novice..I know how to set up sharing...I had it working before...did some stuff with linksys last week, and now nothing works.
    2. I CAN see my other cpu's. I can ping them. I can go to a mapped drive and select a song and play it thru Itunes on my other computer just fine, but the problem is I can't play music thru Itunes sharing. (can't bring up songs, playlists, Podcats, or anything, thru sharing)
    3. Both CPU's have latest Itunes update
    4. I messed around with the multicast filter, as well as windows firewall enabled/disabled on both machines and none of the above are working. (tried port forwarding on the router as well w/ Itunes Port #'s and that didn't work)
    5. It seems like every time I open my cpu on the NON sharing cpu the left side nav has my share folder in it...it hangs..the songs come up, and it disappears right away, giving me No Access to my sharing.
    6. I have no password enabled on Sharing
    7. Linksys wireless router
    8. Both machines are XP SP2
    9. I can open and play a music from the sharing computer by going thru windows explorer and play an mp3 on my wireless cpu...so this is weird...
Only problem is sharing won't work...I can't see it in Itunes
    Any tips would be appreciated.

    Disable the AVG temporarily.
    Try a different browswer.

What happens if you go to iTunes > File > Devices, do you get the option to Sync iPhone?
You could try a reinstall of iTunes. OS X Yosemite: Reinstall apps that came with your Mac

  • Can i download to ipod using an Itunes sharing computer?

    Hellooooo ~
My original Itunes install is on a Mac 10.3.9. My Itunes sharing computer is a Windows XP. The sharing over the local network seems to be working fine. I have not yet purchased an IPOD. QUESTION: Will I be able to get my (Mac sourced) songs and podcasts onto the IPOD from the sharing Windows computer?
Another question: is there any way to duplicate my actual song files to the Windows XP computer so that I don't have to turn on the Mac in order for itunes to function on the XP machine? All my song files are on the Mac.
    thanks for any helpppppp.

No, iTunes library sharing only allows you to listen to music in the shared library.
Another question: is there any way to duplicate my actual song files to the Windows XP computer so that I don't have to turn on the Mac in order for itunes to function on the XP machine? All my song files are on the Mac.
Yes, use the network to copy the files from the Mac to the PC.

The computer has to be authorized for the account that purcchased the media.
What error message are you getting when you try to lauthorize the computer for that account?
Is there a way to find my Apple ID Name if I can't remember it?
Yes. Visit My Apple ID and click Find your Apple ID. See Finding your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
