Multiple computers on a wireless network

Hi,
I'm new to iTunes and downloading music, so I apologize if my question seems odd. I have purchased about 50 songs on my desktop computer. My spouse has a laptop in the house -- we have a wireless router that connects us both. Is there a way for my spouse to have access to those 50 songs that I have already purchased on his laptop computer? We also have an Ipod. Can songs be shifted from the Ipod to the computer? Please let me know. Thanks.

Sure, just make sure you authorize both computers to share the iTunes library.
As for using the iPod between the two different computers, yes, you can. I think you are getting at you want to take music from the iPod and put it onto another computer? Yes, with third party software that will let you rip the iPod onto an iTunes library.
Good Luck,

  • I have multiple macs, on 1 wireless network, never both online at same time

So here's the problem. I have an imac and a macbook air. I've been using my airport express for my wireless network. I've setup the airport express to have its own network name, and its password protected.
I've never had a problem with the express, its always been distributing wireless just fine. And I never have any problems connecting to the internet... EXCEPT if i have multiple macs on my network. (Before wasn't so much a problem, unless a friend came over. But now I have two macs).
On a daily basis, 9 times out of 10, if 1 mac is online, the other 1 get's booted. It acts as if they only have 1 IP address or something to work with from the express. Sometimes renewing my dhcp lease will fix the connection on a computer, but only to boot the other one off. And back and forth this goes sometimes. On other occasions, both lose their connections and cant get an ip address at all; forcing me to refresh the express to factory settings and resetting it all up.
I'm just trying to figure out what i might be missing, or why this keeps happening to me. All software is up to date, and it only happens to multiple macs (My room mate has a pc, but when i had only 1 mac we never had this problem).
    Any help or pointers?

    Some questions about your settings:
In AirPort Utility, if you do a "manual setup" on your AirPort Express, In the "Internet" panel what settings do you see for
    - Internet Connection/Connection Sharing
    - DHCP/DHCP Beginning Address (three fields)
    - DHCP/DHCP Ending Address
What is "upstream" from your AirPort Express?

  • Multiple Computers on the same network

We're currently transitioning to Windows 8.1 MRD after many years running OSX and ARD in our small office.
We have two computers that we need to access independently from the outside. We opened up the recommend port for MRD and have it working as expected on a single computer. However, we can only gain access to a single machine from the outside. With Apple Remote
Desktop, you simply open up additional ports to allow access for multiple machines. Super easy. We decided to do the same with MRD, but failed with everything we attempted.
Does MRD not support using custom ports for multiple computers?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
We can achieve the result as you want with remote desktop connection. We need to allow the port from firewall end and can apply particular rules with advanced option for specific ports. Also if you are using Routers then need to open the port from router end,
and finally when connecting user “servername:portnumber” and provide credentials.
Please checkthis article for more details.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • How do I set up time capsule to just backup multiple macs on a wireless network without using the TC in the bridge mode?

I have an AT&T modem that serves as our home wireless network.  I wanted to backup up our computer data so I got a time capsule to back up our three household MACs.  After purchase, I found how that I needed to put the exising modem in "bridge mode" so the Time capsule would establish the network. Four frustrating hours later talking to 3 different people at Yahoo, I got the **** thing established.  It worked fine for 4 months - then a power failure forced me to repeat the process again.  I had to reestablish everything and it took another 4 hours.  After 6 months, another power failure forced me to go through the entire process again.  Now, of course, Yahoo is charging a fee to help you establish the TC as the network if you have one of their modems - and to make things interesting, they really don't understand MACs.  After 5 hours, in frustration, I gave up and asked the Yahoo folks to just put their modem back in as the network hub and I unplugged the Time Capsule.  Now after 3 months of looking at an expensive Time Capsule and searching the internet for help, I figured I try the Apple help network,
I just want to backup the data on my MACS.  I have a network in the house that works just fine.  How do I configure the TC to work as a backup on a wireless network?  It seems like it should be simple, but it isn't.  Can anybody help?

I have no idea about the modem and bridge mode (I don't do networking -- hopefully Bob Timmons, Tesserax, or one of the other networking gurus will drop in and address that).
But . . . you should be able to back up to the TC as long as it's on your network and recognized by your Macs.  I think being in bridge mode means it will be rather slow, but it should work.  Until/unless we hear otherwise, you might want to see #Q1 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.

  • Network How do I see other computers on My wireless Network?

Sorry everyone very new on Mac. I was trying to figure out how I could see what other computers were on my network. The network hub right now is on my windows pc. I can see all the pc's there including the Mac. My question is. Is there anything in MAC that allows you to see other computers??
    Thanks,
    Jim

are you referring to the log which used to be in the previous admin utility and which disappeared with theis latest update? I am looking myself. Luckily I have an old Macbook with the previous version of admin utility on it.
There is always the possibility of restoring your extreme to factory defaults and backing out of this latest release. I'm thinking of reverting myself.

  • My AirPort Extreme will only let me have one device on the wifi at a time. How do i put multiple computers, phones, and wireless devices on my wifi network at the same time?

I have a Macbook Pro and it works perfectly fine on my AirPort extreem until I try and put a different computer, ipod, or phone on the wireless. When I try and put more than one device on the network only one device will receive internet access and the other(s) will get a message saying it is because of a shared ip address. Is there a way to change it so they can all share an ip address? Please help me configure my wifi and devices so that I can use more than one device on the wifi at a time.
    Thanks!

Hmm... Those two screen shot disagree. the first shows that the duplication was on 192.168.1.64, while the second showed you were using 192.168.1.63. That confuses matters further.
From the screen that you show, click on the "Advanced..." button in the lower right, then the "TCP/IP" tab.
SHow us a shot of the screen or copy the text from the "Configure IPv4" line and the three under that (IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask, and Router).
    Then launch AirPort Utility.
If you have one of the old 5.6.x versions:
    * Click on the icon for your Extreme.
    * Click on the "Manual Setup" button and supply the password if needed.
    * Click on the "Internet" icon at the top.
    * Click on the "DHCP" tab.
    * Give us a screen shot or transcribe the results.
If you have AirPort Utility 6.2 (the latest):
    * Click on the icon for your Extreme.
    * Click on the "Edit" button in the balloon that pops up, supply the password if needed.
    * Click on the "Network" tab.
    * Give us a screen shot or transcribe the results.

  • Sharing a Printer between XP and Windows 7 computers on a Wireless Network

Does anyone know if you can share a printer on a home network between a windows 7 and an XP SP3 computer?
I had a wireless netowork set up at home with an XP desktop hardwired to a cable modem and a printer with USB connection. I also had an XP laptop with wireless connection to the Internet. I was able to share files between the two compters and remotely connect to the printer (a recently purchased HP Photosmart C4600 series) from the laptop. Everything was fine until I had to replace the desktop.
I replaced the desktop with a laptop running windows 7.  The first problem I had was the new laptop would not connect to the Internet through the existing newtork - neither hardwired or wireless. The problem turned out to be my existing router so I replaced it and the new laptop now connects to the Internet. I set up a new network.
The problem I am having is remotely connecting to the printer with the XP laptop. I have the printer connected to the windows 7 laptop via USB (it is not a wireless printer) and have gone through and set both computers to the same workgroup, turned on file and printer sharing and have tried everything I have read on the microsoft forums including turning on UDP and TCP ports. I turned off firewalls and uninstalled CA security software to eliminate any potential unseen conflicts. I even tired connecting the printer to the XP thinking windows 7 might be "smarter" than XP and I could print remotely from the windows 7 computer. That didn't work either.
I can see the XP computer and access shared folders from the windows 7 computer and vice versa. If I physically connect the XP laptop to the printer via USB I can print so I know the drivers are OK.
The printer icon appears when I bring up the Printers and Faxes window on the XP computer and I am able to view the queue and even change options when I go into Properties. It shows it is selected as the default.
When I try to print remotely from the XP computer I get a message "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current priter setup" - then it lists 3 thing s to try which I have done. I also went through the XP printer troubleshooter program which was a dead end.
    HELP!

If networking isn't working out for you, you may want to try out a swtich. Best Buy sells one by IOGEAR that allows for two USB connections to tie into one computer. So long as windows 7 can either download its own driver for the printer for basic features, or if you want to download canon's driver this solution will work. The only draw back is having to bring the laptop near the printer when you need to print.

My opinions do not in any way shape or form represent Best Buy's Official decisions.

  • How to set up multiple computers on the same network

I have a small network with 4 computers on it. Two of these I would like to be able to access from outside of the office using Remote Desktop. Before I had this set up working just fine with only one computer, but have recently started sharing my office space with another person. Their I.T. guy set up their own connections and rerouted the default ports to their computer instead of mine. My router is a Netgear WNDR3700. Computer 1 is using the default port being forwarded to it's I.P. I moved the ports up by one number for the other computer and have it forwarding to it's IP. For example, 3389 on Comp. 1 is 3390 on Comp 2.
Now what I can't make happen is this connection to work when I try it. So I'm just wondering if there is a way that I can do this?

you would need to setup a VPN and tunnel into your office.
    FYI..the default ports are 3283 and 5900.

  • Is it possible to use Lightroom with multiple computers that are not networked?

I am new to Lightroom although I have been a professional photographer for over 15 years. Currently, I use the software that came with my camera to process my RAW files, Digital Professional Pro by Canon for a Mark II 5D.
I have been evaluating the lasest version of Lightroom to consider purchasing it. So far, I love the expanded ability for image adjustments and enhancements. However, in my current workflow, I need to be able to save the adjustments to be able to transfer the files to another computer. Is this possible with Lightroom? With Digital Pro, I can tweak a RAW file and it will save the adjustments no matter what computer I open the image file on. I need to be able to duplicate this process in order to convey to our production department how I want an image adjusted and cropped.
I downloaded the trail version on two computers, then imported images into Lightroom. Made adjustments, then copied the images to a flash drive.Uploaded images from flash drive to my laptop, then re-imported the images into Lightroom and the adjustments were not saved.
    Thanks for any help.

After some research, my answer lies in the XMP file. Whenever I make adjustments to the image, I can save my adjustments by creating an XMP file (CTRL S). It writes it back to the original image folder so when I burn the folder to hand off the files to my production team, the xmp parleys my image adjustments. They in turn can make adjustments and send them back to me, if needed. Just took awhile to find the information because even though I am kicking the tires on LR4, it was a LR1 video that gave me the infomation.

  • Cannot connect to other computers on my wireless network

Since I upgraded to Mac OS X v10.7 Lion I cannot connect to my iMac or MacBook as a Registered User.  I keep getting "Connection Failed" when I try to connect.

If you are getting the error message that the server won't allow any more users to connect, and to try again later, this seems to be a problem with AFP sharing in Lion.
The workaround for this so far is to go to System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing and click on Options...  On that window, turn OFF "Share files and folders using AFP" and turn ON "Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)" Click Done to go back to the sharing window and you should see a green dot followed by "Windows Sharing: On"
    Give that a try.

  • Wireless Network Management with Multiple SSIDs in one Wireless Profile

Could anybody explain me about how Multiple SSIDs in one Wireless Network Name (Network Profile) ? Configuration will be pushed to Windows 7 Pro from Wins Server 2008 R2.
Objective: Multiple office locations will have different SSIDs and when the laptop user travels one location to another, he/she could connect to wireless networks at any offices without any configuration change but utilizing "Automatically use my Windows
logon name and password (and domain if any.)" setting in EAP MSCHAPv2 properties.
    Network Name: Enterprise
    SSIDS: SFO-WIFI, LAX-WIFI,CHI-WIFI,NYC-WIFI,
    Network Type:Access Point
    Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
    Encryption Type: AES
    Network Authentication Method: Microsoft:Protect EAP(PEAP)
My question is: (1) Will Windows try all the SSIDs in order to get connected to the Wireless Network at the office? (Let's say, user is in NYC, but will Windows try to find SFO-WIFI SSID first, wait until time out, retry?, and moves on to LAS-WIFI SSID,
wait until time out, retry?, and moves on to CHI-WIFI and finally tries NYC-WIFI SSID and found the SSID in the beacon from Access Point and authenticates through RADIUS?
    (2) If the answer is YES, what is the waiting time/timeout setting for one SSID before moves on to another?
    (3) If the answer is NO, what is the process to get user connected to NYC-WIFI SSID when he/she is in NYC office within the range of that SSID?

    Hello Ninjago_2224,
About the multiple office location have different SSIDs, does the location A has the signal used in
    location D?
Please go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center
, and then click Manage wireless networks.
The windows will try to connect to these networks in the order listed.
Please check if the four SSID pushed by Windows Server 2008 is listed as mentioned above.
If the location A have the location D SSID and the location D SSID has higher priority, the Windows will connect to
    location D SSID.
So about the question 1, the Windows will try the SSID in order.
About the question 2, I can’t find the accurate time that test one SSID and move to another. But based on my test, it is very fast.
For more information, please take a look at the following article.

  • Wireless with multiple computers

How can I set the default computer for my Officejet 7410 to send scans to?  I have 4 computers on my wireless network.

It works for us. You may have to enable File Sharing on the computer with the external drive. You might also have to make the drive shared. The user of the computer to be backed up may need to have an account on the computer with the external drive (all the above are true in our case, but I'm not sure whether all are required).
Then, on the other computer, connect to the computer with the external drive, using the side bar in the Finder, and selecting "Connect As...". Select the "Save the password in the Key Chain" option when you log in. Once you are connected, the external drive should be available in System Preferences, Time Machine. Time Machine will subsequently connect to the drive as required to backup, using the password saved in the Key Chain.

  • Do I really need an Airport device for my home wireless network?

    Hi Apple Users,
I am seriously considering purchasing my very first Apple computer: a MacBook Pro to be precise.  I'm a very experienced Windows PC user - was a Microsoft Windows & Office -based Help Desk Analyst at my company for 13 years till I was laid off last year.  So I know my way around Microsoft Windows computers, Windows LANs, wireless networking & servers, security, etc.  I currently own a Dell Precision laptop running Windows 7 - have had it for 3 years with no problems (yet - knock on wood).  I have a cable modem with a Motorola SBG900 wireless router / gateway with hardware firewall enabled. Everything is secure, only certain ports are open, etc.
If I buy this MacBook Pro, get it delivered, turn it on, create my logon, etc. will it automatically work with my current wireless router / gateway after going thru the set-up procedure to connect to my network & the internet?   Or do I absolutely have to purchase one of the Airport adapters in order for the Mac to talk to the router?
Thank you for being patient with a newbie Apple / Mac User wannabe.  I'm very excited!
    Kim

Thank you Rysz, but (if you scroll up & read my original post you will discover) I don't own my new MacBook Pro...yet!  I'm just researching ahead of time to help me make the decision.  The customized MBP I have saved in my cart is over $3000 (incl the 3-yr support plan).  So it's going to take me a little bit of research before I decide or before I can really justify the purchase.
I just wanted to be prepared for all the inevitable technical / learning-curve headaches that I will experience IF I take the plunge.   And as everyone has experienced, when you're new to and making your first purchase of a different technology, and you don't know what to expect about a purchase, you ultimately get it home, set it up and find it didn't come with all the necessary interface devices, converters or cables, etc.  And of course the online purchase procedure wizard doesn't tell you or ask you what else you will need if you want to perform a specific task.
But I'm sure (if) once I do make the purchase, I will definitely be back here to pick everyone's brains!  These communities are fantastic.   Thanks again!

  • Multiple computers on airport

I have an airport express connected to a dsl router, my problem is that i can only have one computer logged into the internet via the airport at a time. and when i set up the airport to run both computers in the house, only one will work.
i have called my isp and they say that it is an airport issue.
does anyone know how to get multiple computers running on the network?

thanks for the reply, however after checking that all preferences were set to the specifications that you presented i still have the same problem.
while my computer is logged into the internet, the other computer can pick up my airport but after logging in it will not actually be functional and will not load anything.
i hope that gives a little more info to my issue.
