Multiple computers, one ipod?

New ipod, probably old problem, appreciate help. Using ipod with two computers, each set to manual organization of music in itunes. Wish to get both computers on "same page" and then auto-sync b/c it is apparently a large annoyance to manual sync. Cannot manage to import (tried using flash drive) library from one computer to other one (so that I can then reverse the process and have two computers with same library).

  • Multiple iPods, multiple computers, one account???

I have four computers and will soon have four iPods (one model #M946OLL, three new Nanos) My main computer has iTunes loaded with all our downloaded and purchased music. Please advise as to how I set up the three new Nanos, each with their own computer, but sharing all the music. Note, all music will be purchased with the same account. Thank you!

  • Multiple computers with iPod

Hello, I'm new to the forum, hope you folks can holp out. I am planning to purchase a new iPod video. I want to sync it with tunes and photos here at home on my iMac. In a few months I will be going overseas for at least a year and will be getting a laptop once I am there, not sure yet but most likely a pc. I will then want to load things from that new pc to my iPod, adding them to what will be there from my iMac. Can this be accomplished and how? Thanks!

Since you're using two different operating systems, it would be best if you formatted the iPod for Windows, since that would allow it to be used on both a PC and a Mac.

  • Multiple Computers, one main backup drive?

Can multiple computers backup to one main backup drive?
I have a G5 desktop with a 250-GB drive (Mac OS X) and a 750-GB drive (which used to contain iTunes until I moved it to a new iMac).
So I was planning on using the G5 as the drive for Time Machine to back up to. I have my iMac, and two MacBooks using it.
Is this going to be problematical? Such as when more than one machine attempts to make a backup?

Time Machine can back up multiple computers to the same hard drive.
There are two options... one you can physically move the backup hard-drive around among the computers.
The second option is that you can backup over the network as long as all computers involved are running Leopard. To do this connect the backup drive to your G5. Turn on file sharing on the G5 for that drive. On the other computers connect to the shared drive from the Finder sidebar. The run System Preferences and in the Time Machine Preference pane select "Change Disk" and choose the network backup drive as the destination.

  • Two computers, one ipod shuffle

Can I use my shuffle to carry itunes back and forth from home to my work computer? I installed Itunes on my work computer today, thinking I could just treat my ipod as a storage device, dragging my library off the ipod over to the work desktop. it didn't work. can I do it? how?
    thanks for the guidance...

    Ron,
Don't know if this helps, but I have a similar problem. I just want to connect my shuffle to two different computers. There's quite a few articles that make it clear that the shuffle can only be associated with one at a time, so when you plug it in to one computer you have to lose all the data you had on it from before. That's a pain but if that's how it works, I can live with it. But after I move the shuffle over it all looks ok in iTunes but then, like you, I get no audio.
I did make it recover from this once but wasn't really sure how. I'd be interested if you got any further with your problem.

  • 2 computers, one ipod touch and one Iphone

    Hi Everyone,
I have been scanning the online help and forums but am struggling to find an answer to this one!
I have a PC and have recently got an iMac, I have an ipod touch & iphone and I want to have my itunes account available on both computers. I am aware that you can sync purchased music from itunes to other computers but what about the rest? Is it possible to have the same account with the same content on 2 computers? I don't want to attach my ipod/iphone o my new mac and lose everything.
    Please help!
    Thank you

There are a few utilities specifically designed to help you sync iTunes across different computers. You could begin your research by having a look at these for instance:
    TuneRanger
    SuperSync
    syncOtunes

  • Multiple computers, one iTunes account... how to consolidate?

I have three computers: Power Mac G5, iBook G4, Mac Mini.
I access and buy songs from iTunes from all three computers.
I update my iPod only from the G5.
So, is there a way to copy the songs I purchased from the iBook and Mac Mini onto my main computer (G5), so that I can sync to my iPod?

I have 3 kids wanting to use my computer and a separate computer at their other parents' house for ITunes. Can this be done? How? We have already had problems with ITunes erasing songs from one computer etc. Any help appreciated.

you need to set up the ipods for manual synching go to edit>prefernces iPod tab. This way you can add music from either PC without deleting what is on the iPod

  • Multiple computers, one shared library + music

What's the easiest way to keep a library updated and shared between multiple machines on the same network?
All the files are on my server. I need a library on my server (which is always on) so I can stream itunes from there to my airport express.
However, I'd also like to update the library from my desktop, and add new songs and playlists from there.
If I share the same file, it causes syncing issues.
If I copy the desktop library to the server library that's causing problems a) with locking and b) it means everytime iTunes is opened on the server it rebuilds the library files and so takes 10 minutes to start.
Is there a good solution I'm missing?

The only ones I know about are TuneRanger and SuperSync. They both have a trial. I've been thinking about getting TuneRanger.

  • Multiple Computers, One Library

I have gone down this road, did my research, and here is where I am at:
    1.  Desktop was the one that had the files on it.  I went ahead and put all files on an NAS and also srore my library files on the NAS.  Bottom line, nothing on local client except iTunes software.  This works fine, see no issues.
    2.  Laptop:  I know it has to have a locally stored library file as each client has their own in my understanding.  I pointed iTunes to the folder that I set up in step 1.  It saw the files and created a library from it, etc.  All worked fine except I did not find a lot of artwork, it did not seem to get those files, what gives?
    3.  On laptop, I went ahead and plugged in my sons iPod, it pulled off purchases he made and added them to the music folder that was set up in #1, however, when I start iTunes on desktop, it did not show them in my library.  I even did a file>now I forgot what the command was, I am not on a PC with iTues at the moment. Anyway, the only way to see them was to use the add files function from the desktop.  Now, I have them.  So, what did I do wrong and is there a better way?
Did I do this right?  My bottom line is the NAS has all the music and art files on it as well as my master library file.  Local clients (laptop for instance) has their local library files, however all the art and music is on the NAS so I can keep that organized.  What am I doing wrong or right?  I appreciate the help.  IOs there a function to keep this all organized?

Similar situation. I have a G5 running Itunes 6.03 and I use it with an M9245LL iPod and works great. For Christmas I have been given a new 60 Gb video iPod, Model No MA147LL; I set it up (also iTunes 6.01.3) on the Gateway 770 GR and it just work great. I have, over a series of months, loaded my entire CD collection, which is roughly 1500 CDs, into Itunes on the G5. That was a LOT of time and work. Now, I say to myself: "Self, wouldn't it be nice if you could get all this music from your G5 to your Windows computer so you can listen to it on your new ipod?"
There seems no clear path to accomplish this other than loading the discs into the Windows PC as well.:-( The Mac and the Gateway are perfectly networked. What are the possibilties of referencing the Mac iTunes folder from the Gateway? (best of all worlds but so far appears un-doable) Suggestions anybody?

  • Two computers, One iPod, One messy problem

I have a G5 computer back at my home, but recently, I decided to move. With the move I bought a new iPod and a MacBook Pro laptop. Before I left I transferred all my songs from my old G5 to my new iPod.
But now that my MacBook Pro has arrived, I've been unable to transfer songs from my iPod to my new MacBook Pro.
What I want is to basically have my new MacBook Pro be the authorized computer to my new iPod (transfer songs, DL songs, fool with my playlists), but I can't do anything like that because I think my old G5 is the only authorized computer for my iPod.
    Can anyone help me?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Use the instructions in this article to transfer the music. To authorize a computer to play purchased music, connect it to the Internet and play a song purchased from the iTunes music store in iTunes; you can authorize a maximum of 5 computers. Once authorized, you can transfer music purchased from the iTunes music store to your iPod on your new computer.

  • 2 Computers - One IPod

I have an existing iMac and a new MacBook. I have a 5th generation Ipod that I recently purchased as an update to my original 10G Ipod. The new Ipod updated everything from the iMac but once I plugged it into the MacBook it asked if I wanted to replace the Itunes info with the new computer. I clicked yes because I just downloaded some videos. Now it will not sync with the iMac. It will not recognize at all. The screen on the Ipod says do not disconnect but the Ipod is not recognized in the menu on the iMac. How do I get the songs from the iMac back on the Ipod?

You should be able to just conect it and it should ask you the same question that MacBook did. If it doesn't, try re-setting it then conect it to your iMac.
Just a note: You can't have an iPod flip between two different computers without wiping out what you already have on it, unless you hack into it somewhow or find some sort of third party software to accomplish that. It's designed to do exactly what it did for copyright purposes.
Let me know if re-setting the iPod works.

  • Multiple speakers, one ipod?

    Hi,
I'm a massage therapist and I use my 2nd gen. ipod for music while I work, with JBL creature speakers. I'm trying to figure out a way to have music in all three treatment rooms with the ipod as the source? I don't have a computer set up in the office so I can't do aiport express. Of course it would be nice not to have wires all over the place too. Any ideas how I can achieve this?
If not, any other ideas? I'm thinking my other options are: Ipods for every room (possible liability in the potential for someone to stick it in their pocket and take it home...) or break down and get a mac mini or something and a couple of airport expresses? I'd like to keep it simple...
    thanks!!

    Hi,
I would say you could try wireless speakers. They work great and plug into one source. Although you'll have to find a wirless speaker set that allows you to add more than two. Look through sony and stuff. Hope this helps!!
