Multiple Controlling Areas

I have a client with multiple controlling areas in ECC 4.6c.  We are preparing them to upgrade to ECC 6.0 then migrate to the new G/L.  The questions is:  When is it "easier" to convert to a single controlling area, before or after the ECC 6.0 Upgrade?  Before or as part of the New G/L Migration?
They may not upgrade until very late this year or early next year.  They want to improve consolidated reporting as quickly as possible but are wary of the amount of time needed to eliminate the multiple controlling areas.

Have you thought about re-implementing???
Migrating Company Codes from different controlling areas can be a complicated process. You may need to create new Company Codes and link them all to the new controlling area.
This will be a massive job - even if you dont want history.
Think of the master data - Customers, Vendors, Assets, Materials etc.
If you are to do anything you should get your rg Structure defined - i.e. one Controlling Area and then go for the new gl document splitting program.
The two pieces of work are Fiscal Year dependant, the next FY you would need to move to a single Controlling Area, and then the following move to document splitting.
You could do the Controlling Area and Upgrade (re-implementation) in one project and then do the document splitting the next Fiscal Year.
Either way - good luck, sounds like you are going to be very busy !!!

  • COPA Assessment Cycle using KEU5 for multiple controlling areas

    Hello All,
There is an organization with operations in several countries. There is a separate controlling area for each country. There is one controlling area, for instance, for Germany and another for Netherlands.
A problem is encountered while executing transaction KEU5 for multiple controlling areas in parallel. For instance, when one user from Germany executes KEU5 for an assessment cycle for Germany controlling area and at the same time another user from Netherlands tries to execute KEU5 for a cycle for NL controlling area, the user from Netherlands encounters an error message u201C'Cycle XXXX 01.02.2008 cannot be started because run group 0000 is locked'.
Apparently SAP allows assessment cycles for exactly one controlling area to be executed together. This poses a problem since the organization plans to implement SAP in several other countries (There will be one separate controlling area for each country as per the organization structure adopted by the company).
Any ideas, views or suggestions on the aforesaid issue would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Soumya

    Hi Soumya,
Did you find any text in SAP Documentation saying that "SAP does not allow cycles belonging to different controlling areas to be executed at the same time"...?
Pls find the following text from SAP Help...
Parallel Processing of Cycles of an Allocation Type
    Use
Parallel processing of cycles results in considerable time savings. To process cycles of one allocation type in parallel, they must be assigned to different cycle run groups.
You define the cycle run groups in the cycle header data. You also assign cycles to the cycle run groups in the header data.
To process the cycles of a cycle run group in parallel, start the cycles one after the other, if required, in different sessions.
You are carrying out a cross-company code cost accounting and want to perform the actual assessment in the individual company codes in parallel. Create a cycle run group for each company code and assign the appropriate cycles to these groups. You can then carry out the actual assessment in the individual company codes in parallel.
When you execute a cycle, you can start a consistency check. The system checks whether you are allowed to execute the selected cycles in parallel.
Though I didn't come across such requirement, I feel, my earlier suggestion will work out...

  • Same operating concern for multiple controlling area

    Dear all,
We have a senario in which multiple controlling area is defined with multiple currency. Is it feasible to use same operating concern or different.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vishal

    Hi
As long as the Fiscal Yr Variant is same between the two, you can use same Op Concern
I dont think the above reply is valid because in my opinion, there is no restriction with regards to Currency

  • Same Cost Element in multiple Controlling Areas

Can a same Cost Element under the Chart Of Accounts(CSKA) used in multiple controlling areas under the Chart Of Accounts or it should be used only by one Controlling Area. Then as Cost Element category is under CSKB (Cost elements (data dependent on controlling area)) it depends on Cost element and  controlling area. So can a Cost elemtnt in different controlling areas has different cost element category. Is that possible as in that case COst ELement becomes GL Account in one Controlling area and doesnt have GL Acvcount in another.

Yes.  Provided it's the same chart of accounts being used across all of the controlling areas.  In the case of primary cost elements, you will still need to individually create the equivalent G/L accounts in every applicable company though.

  • Multiple controlling area with same chart account

    Hi Experts,
can we consolidate multiple controlling area with same chart account in SAP BI?
for example, if in R3 I have 4 Controlling Areas with the same chart of accounts, I can get an standard BW reports summarizing  them.

    Hi
Chart of accounts i.e. 0CHRT_ACCTS is an attribute of Controlling area. This means each Controlling area will have it's own chart of accounts. This chart of accounts could be similar in terms of content values. So it is possible to consolidate and produce a report which provides a summary of the chart of accounts.

  • Company code Vs controlling area.

    Hi Friends,
Please let me know if i can assign one company code to multiple controlling areas.
If no how do i know which company code aviliable to assign.
    Regards,
    krishna.

    Hi,
    It is not possible.
CONTROLLING AREA:Controlling Area is a Organizational unit that represents a closed system for Cost Accounting purpose.
To this purpose you need to maintain Controlling Area. To this Controlling Area you need to activate the components of
    Controlling for a fiscal year.
To this Controlling are you have to assign your Company Code. A Controlling Area may be used 2 or more Company Codes.
That is called CROSS COMPANY CODE COST A/C. If you are using common Controlling Area for 2 or more Company Codes then you
need to maintain consistency of the following.I.
CHART OF A/C                : must be same for all Company Codes.II.
FISCAL YEAR                  : must be same for all Company Codes.III.
PERIOD & CLOSING              : must be done at the same time.
currency                      : it may be different.
for one controlling area you can maintain multiple Company Codes but for one Company code you can maintain only one
    controlling area.
let me know if u need more information.

  • What are criterias for defining various controlling area in oprating concrn

    Hi All,
for a holding with various businesses, I'm looking for criteria or characteristics to:
1- divide client into multiple operating concern? ("best Practice" characteristics)
2- divide an "operating concern" into multiple "controlling area"?
I'm confused in dividing a holding in how many operating concerns and controlling areas?
which solution is better: few operating concern with various controlling area within each one OR more operating concern with fewer controlling area within each operating concern?
    Best Regards

    Dear  Piet Strydom,
    thanks for your quick response,
there is special situation: our holding produce and distribute wide range of products in A country,
some manufactures in our holding produce same products with various brands (for example Company A and its partner company B produce keyboards under brand X and company C produce the same keyboards with brand Y), because of market uniformity we plan to group them (company A& B&C) in an operating concern, now:
1- is it a correct decision to group all manufactures (with various brands-same products) in one operating concern?
2- if we do so, isn't it right decision to divide each brand manufactures group in a controlling area? in other word we assign for each brand a controlling area? (one controlling area for both company A&B and another controlling area for company C)
    Best Regards

  • Customers extended to more than one Credit Control Area ?

    Hello ,
Please advice ,SAP Customers (payers ) can be extended to more than one Credit Control Area ?
    Yes or No ?
    Pros & Cons ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Vikas

    Hi Vikas,
You can map one customer to two different credit control areas:
However you need to understand the following points:
1.Delinking of company code to existing credit area (FI)
2.Allow at compnay code more than one control and allow overwriting also(FI)
3.Allow the existing risk categories to work in new control Area (FI)
4.Change layout of customer master (if credit control area is not activated in sales area-Billing Tab)
5.Creation of Validations in FI that No entry to customer ledger shall pass without assignment to control area.
The Process of having multiple control area under one compnay code though not advisable however if business requires this you need to configure.
    Pros:
    1. Single customer code
    2.Credit control division wise
3.AR can be taken division wise
    Cons:
    1.Master data maintenance would increse
2.user need to put credit area in all transactions specially-Credit & debot Notes (FB70) and advance payments.
If You require any other help pls revert.
    Regards

  • Unable to assign multiple company code to a controlling area in PPOME

    Hi Experts
In PPOME I was trying to assign multiple company codes under 1 controlling area in account assignment. e.g. ABC is the company, its 2 company codes, ABC1 and ABC2.
In PPOME when I am assigning the root org unit (ABC) with controlling area ABC1 and company code ABC1, it hierarchially inherits the below structure.
Whereas when I want to change the company code for ABC2 orgunit, it doesnot give the provision to change. It hierarchially inherits the root org unit structure.
I have tried to differentiate it by creating different costcentres for different companycodes, but that also doesnot help to fulfill the need.
Please help me to solve the issue as early as possible.
    Warm Regards
    Anwi

    Hi Rajdeep
The same function can be handled from PPOME also, because in case of assignment of enterprise structure components with org structure components we use IT 1008.
However, if yours process is followed, then also I am unable to change the COMPANY CODE. Rest can be well taken care of.
    Cheers

  • Multiple credit control areas for 1 company code

    Hi experts,
My client is using ECC6 version and they activated credit control area, as I know that 1 company code can have 1 credit control area and 1 credit control can be assigned with multiple company codes,. but in one of my client company code is assigned to 4 credit control area through
u201CFinancial Accounting (New)- Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable-Credit Management-Credit Control Account-Assign Permitted Credit Control Areas to Company Codeu201D-
Can anyone let me know how this functionality will work? Any additional impact will be there when compare to 1:1 scenario? And what are the details we need to update in FD32 when we assign multiple credit controls for 1 company code.
    Regards
    babu

    Hi,
The multiple assignemnet of credit control allows you to use multiple credit control for customers. Thus in FD32 you can use these assigned different credit control area and maintain the credit limit for each area.
