Multiple Copies of Contacts after Importing to Mac

I have been challenged with  contacts since I changed from PC to Mac and then added iCloud.  At this poing I have managed to lose all of the contacts on my iphone, ipad and icloud as well as all the groups I set up and have 33,000 contacts in my address book and I should only have about 1200. It doesn't really matter at this point what i have done...but i need to know how to get from where I am to having only the actual contacts (1200) on all my devices.  I certainly cannot spend the days it would take to delete each individual contact that is replciated.
Thanks

I have the same issue, but about 20,000 duplicates!

  • Multiple alarms in ical after import

is their a global way to remove a 2nd alarm that seems to have happened after importing from outlook. I have 2 alrms and i think this is making my ical file and entry numbers huge.
Can you globally remove alarms and other ical event functions

    CaptainStarwars,
FYI, this multiple alarm issue is affecting a lot of iCal users under a lot of different circumstances—not just import. Do a search and look for other threads.
My observation is that MobileMe is responsible somehow. I fixed ALL my repeating events last week so that they all had a single alarm (like they're supposed to), and today duplicate alarms started showing up again.

  • Multiple copies in contacts

Whenever I sync my iPhone to my iMac and it syncs contacts, I find that after syncing I have one additional copy of each contact after each sync. I have synced at least 10 times, and have as many copies on my iPhone.

I'm sure I do. But how do I check if I do or don't? And how do I delete the extra copies in my contacts?

  • HT1386 multiple copies of contacts

I have been noticing that my iPhone has multiple copies of several (not all) of my contacts. It has added about 150 duplicates overall. It pushes multiple copies onto my gmail account. I can reasonably delete them from my g-mail account via my computer, but the next time I sync they are back.
Is there anyway I can force the phone to accept the cleaned up g-mail list and avoid this duplication in the future?

Sorry I don't have an answer, but in the interest of "misery loves company", I have the same problem. What is strange is that they are not all duplicated - only certain ones. I've looked to see what the ones that are duplicated (and in some cases triplicated)have in common, but I haven't found a common thread.

  • Multiple copies of songs after transfer to new computer

    This is really annoying me.
I bought a new laptop and I want to transfer all my music from the old to the new. The new laptop has beatsmusic on it (factory installed).
So first I downloaded iTunes.  Immediately after loading ITunes I had access to all my music I purchases through the iTunes store.  So far so good.
BUT, 95% of my music is CDs that I burned one at a time into my iTunes library.  So that transfer is critical.   I have an external hard-drive I use to backup all my music.  So I transferred the entire library to my new laptop from the external hard drive.
All the music transferred - but not as iTunes MP4 files.  Nope - they all became beatsmusic files.  I don't want that.  Frustrating that computers have to force people to have what they don't want.
I am also dealing with windows 8 - so accessing music library is no longer easy like it used to be.
Anyway - I tried converting all the beats files back to iTunes music files (like they were originally!)  Now I have 2 and 3 copies of every song in my library.
The whole thing really irritates me.
Why can't consumers have what they want?  Do I start over now?  Delete the entire library off the new computer?
I am not going to delete 20,000 songs manually one at a time so forget that suggestion.  And the darned beats music is still the default music player.
Considering throwing away all computers and becoming a survivalist in the woods.

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)
Alternativey see this migrate iTunes library post, you may want to revisit the transfer method. If you get it right you don't import anything or create duplicates in the process.

  • Dup or double copies of contact after syncing

    Hi
I have had this problem with my Treo 650 when I sync with the Address Book and now the same thing with the iPhone.
I believe it is something I am doing wrong. Here is what I can tell that I know of.
    1. My addressbook ap has about 2400 contacts in it
    2. I set up a sync to .mac sometime ago. The addressbook on the .mac web page shows about 7000 contacts... mostly dups. I deleted that, but that is time concumming. I have unregister my Mac for the .mac and then re-register, but the 7000 contacts came back.
    3. Any way is also true on the iPhone. There is a allot of dups on my iPhone.
Does anyone have a suggestion that could help me fix this problem.
Btw, the dups are not exact copies. Some time the dup are part of the contact information
    Thanks
    Ron

    Hi All
I call the apple support concerning this issue. It trues out that an application called "Missing Sync for Palm OS", that I was using for the Treo 650 has messed up the linking between iTunes, Addressbook and others. Once I removed it and ran iSync to relink all the sync devises the dup or double copying of contacts went away.
    Therefore this is fixed

  • Mail and Address Book Missing contacts after importing a VCard

Okay, I don't know precisely when this happened, but I guess it might have happened when I upgraded to Leopard. I rarely used Address Book, but I would add contacts of some of my friends to in every now and then from Mail. Right click on the address in Mail and select "Add to Address Book".
Immediately after upgrading to Leopard I had received a massive VCard from my coworkers, which I promptly added to my Address Book. Weeks later I'm digging around in Address Book and I see only about 10% of my old addresses. ***?!
Stranger, when I go back to Mail and go to Window>Previous Recipients, among the long list of emails there, it shows that the emails that I had long ago added to Address Book ARE indeed in Address Book.
    So, three questions:
    • Where did my old Address Book contacts go?
    • Why does Previous Recipients list my missing contacts as being in Address Book when Address Book itself doesn't show them?
    • How can I get the contacts that Previous Recipients sees to appear in Address Book again?

"The ones with the v-card icon are already supposed to be in addressbook, and so, the button goes gray."
Yah. But they don't appear in Address Book anymore.
Something I noticed, in Users>Home>Library>Application Support>Address Book there is "AddressBook.data" and "AddressBook.data.previous". Might the ".previous" version be where my old contacts are residing? Might there be a way to pry them out and merge them into the other file?
    Hmm.

  • Multiple Copies of Users After Migration

I just bought a new iMac and used the Migration Assistant to move my user accounts and programs from a 933 MHz G4. Both machines are operating with the current 10.4.10. In Finder I can see the four accounts I migrated. When I go into the System Preferences > Accounts, I see five copies of the four accounts I migrated. I tried to delete the extra copies and was able to delete four copies of two of managed accounts, but it will not let me delete the fifth. Those two accounts do not show up in the Finder. I tried to delete the copies of a Standard account and put it in the deleted users. The account shows up in the Login screen but I don't have access to that account.
I've got five copies of the Admin account in the System Preferences > Accounts (only one copy shows up in the Log In box) but I don't want to mess with it until I've got a better handle on what's going on.

  • Truncated songs after importing to Mac from PC

I got an iMac a month or so ago, and I imported my iTunes colelction from my old PC. But I've realized that a lot of the songs I imported have been truncated -- maybe the last minute or so. Any suggestions -- do I need to delete and re-import? The times all look okay, but the song just stops early. Annoying.

I used an external hard disk to copy the songs from the PC (all i-tunes files) and then copy them onto the iMac desktop. Open the i-tunes from the iMac and drag the files from the desktop to the i-tunes. It works OK except some of the Chinese songs' names were not displayed correctly.

  • Create Multiple Copies of a Field - Mac

I'm trying to make multiple copies of a field using DC on a Mac. The directions/support indicate that I should "right click" on the field - which, of course, cannot be done on a Mac. So how do I create multiple copies of a field on a Mac?
In general, all of the directions for creating forms assume I am on a PC. Where/How do I find directions for creating forms with DC on a Mac?
    Thanks,

  • Multiple copies of email accounts, contacts and notes after syc.

Can anyone suggest why after a routine sync between iTunes on my PC and my iPhone I now have multiple copies of my email accounts showing in iTunes and multiple copies of my contacts and notes on my phone?
I have no iCloud account. I do not use iCloud. I have not changed any settings for the sync, which has been fine up until now.
What I am left with is four copies of each email account on my iTunes and my iPhone, which I cannot seem to change. Outlook has only one copy of each email account. Outlook also only has one copy of each contact and one of each note but my iPhone now has four copies of each contact and four of each note.
Any ideas what is going on and how I get back to normal please! Thanks.

Tried deleting the orange account and adding it back in, no difference unfortunately.

  • How can I delete multiple copies (600 ) of the same contact that ended up on my iPhone after backing it up on iTunes?

In syncing my iPhone 3GS on iTunes, I now have many copies of the same contact -over 1,000 in one case-on my iPhone.  How can I delete these multiple copies without doing it one by one on my iPhone and how can I prevent it from happening again?  I have Outlook Contacts and MSN contacts -- iTunes is supposed to be syncing to my Outlook contacts, but I don't have multiple copies of any of my contacts there.  HELP!  Thanks!

The cause was probably a USB glitch during a sync or when copying. The music resides on the phone in separate files. A master file contains a database with an index to the music, an entry for each track and a "pointer" to the file containing the track. Somehow the index got corrupted with duplicate entries. It's likely that the music itself wasn't duplicated, but some tracks had more than one entry in the database. I've seen this happen when syncing (rather than manually managing) also. In my case deleting the track from the Music tab in iTunes, syncing, then adding it back fixed it.
A related problem I've seen is an album may be split, with some tracks in each of 2 or more album entries in the listing. Fixed the same way.

opps.  Long title there... The past few days my Mail app has started downloading multiple copies of e-mails from all pop servers.  This is only happening on my Macbook not other macs.  Deleting mail from server does not help. I ran ClamXav found 2 viruses deleted those.  Checked for software update and installed suggested downloads.  Problem still contintues.  Any suggestions?

    Folks,
even after having repaired the inbox folder under "properties" a few times, I still had some e-mails where the contents are different from the subject line.
In other words in the inbox there are two e-mails: one with subject line "abc", and another one with subject line "def".
When I display the e-mail with the subject line "abc", the contents are from the e-mail with the subject line "def" in the in-basket.
What else can be done to correct this problem?
    Thanks and best regards.
