updated - I think this might be the problem! Maybe its cause when there is flash banner ads playing on websites in the background it raises the level of "memory usage"? have a look

• My fan makes loud and very strange noises.

Hi again,
My fan makes loud and very strange noises. Is there any cure for that?
Thank you!
Markus

Hmm... that is strange. There are a couple reasons that I can think of.
First, go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Processor Performance. See what its set to. If it is currently set to Highest, your fan could be going more often. Turn it down to Reduced or Automatic. Note if there is any difference.
Secondly, are you all up to date on software updates? The last step was to see if it was a software issue. If it isn't, then you probably have a defective fan. AppleCare?
Now, you would open your PowerBook. Look in the Apple docs (Support - Manuals) to find how to do it for yourself, or take it to a shop or Apple Store and have them do it. Safest option.
Look at your fan. Has it come free of the anchor and is hitting against the wall or fan surround?
Lastly, try keeping the PowerBook in a open, ventilated area. The fan will power up less if the computer stays cooler. For a possibly irritating but possibly helpful option, purchase a product that lifts the PowerBook off your lap or desk. I think Rain Design makes a good one.
Good luck!

• 15" MacBook Pro runs hot, fan is loud, and incredibly low battery life

My 15" MBP was bought in March or April (can't remember) from Singapore Apple Store. Here are the stats:
MacBook Pro 15-Inch, Late 2011
Memory 8 GB 12222 MHz DDR3
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Also I'm using about 1/2 of the available 750 GB of storage.
Here's what's up:
1. The fans boot immediately after the computer is turned on and never stop, making everything much too loud...like a plane is taking off or something.
2. The computer is WAY too hot. Right now I'm running Astrill, Chrome, Activity Monitor, and System Utility, and when I put my hands on the thing it feels like my fingers are going to melt.
3. The battery life, even at a full charge, is about an hour overall, which ***** for so, so many reasons.
Here's what I've tried:
1. I took it to the Shanghai Genius Bar, but I think that the language barrier is impeding my ability to really say what's wrong. I backed up, and they wiped the hard drive, re-loaded the OS and put all my old stuff back on the computer. They also deleted SOMETHING from the Preferences part of the library, but I don't know what it was. Everything runs much faster now, but the fan, the heat, and the battery are still having their issues.
2. I've checked the "all processes" CPU usage. There's nothing unusual (as far as I can tell), so I'm at a serious loss as to say why the computer is running so hard. Even with all the processing running as you see below, the fan's still blasting and I've lost 50% battery life in the past 40 minutes.
3. I've tried the fix that requires deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.lockfile. It changed the way the desktop looked and absolutely nothing else.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me! I'm a graphic designer and often run the CS6 Suite. (Currently, however, I am NOT running any Adobe programs and I'm still experiencing the problems.) It's really important that I am able to run Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign at once, and it CAN, but with the heat problems I'm having without ANY of the graphics stuff running, it worries me.

Just took another look at iStat Menus (I've only had it for a couple of days - I used to use the old iStat Pro widget) and it seems as if you can make fan speed defaults and use them instead of relying on your MBPs sensors to take care of the fans... see...
Might want to use that 'medium' speed (there by default as I know I didn't add it) and keep an eye on your temps. If you start heating up to much, go back to the 'Default'.

• Mac mini Intel Core Duo fan very loud and runs at high speed all the time.

I purchased an "Open box" Mac mini Intel Core Duo, 1.66Ghz, 2G ram, 80G HD and SD a few days ago from Fry's.
It runs beautifully except the fan is very loud compared to any Mac my family has ever had. It is so loud that we were thinking of putting it under the desk.
The fan runs constantly, and I mean all the time, at a high speed. You can really feel the air coming out the exhaust vents. The case is always cool to the touch as is the exhaust air.
My aunt bought a similar Mac mini (But only 512Mb ram) the same day. Her's is very quiet. The case feels just slightly warm, not unlike other Mac mini's I've seen.
Should my Mac mini's fan be running this way?
Thanks,
llulua
BTW: The "open box" was sealed with a Fry's label and it said that this had a new warranty. Yet, checking the serial number, it said that it had about 260 days left. I guess Fry's is backing it?
Also, someone told me that perhaps the main wire from the fan to the logic board is disconnected.

Since you have 2 gigs of memory, my thoughts are that when the party (Fry's or the origianl purchaser) upgraded the memory, they neglected to reattach the wire at the front of the Mini under the IR receptor at the right front corner that regulates the fan speed. This wire must be unattached in order to upgrade the memory, and is probably why the original person brought it back, because of the fan noise resulting from failing to reattach the wire. If that wire is left unattached, the fan runs continually at high speed to protect the CPU and system in general. If you do not want to use a putty knife to open the Mini, take it back to Fry's and ask someone who is Mac savvy to open it and reattach the small plastic receptacle at the end of the wire into its socket at the right front of the machine. When I go to Fry's, I am always concerned because the employees allow people to pry keys off of the Apple notebooks, so don't expect that their employees to know or care about anything Mac.

• Will running games that make the fan run loudly and the computer heat up damage my machine?

On my Macbook Air running Yosemite 10.10.3, with 4 GB RAM, 251 GB storage (170 GB free), a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, and Intel HD 6000 1536 MB graphics card, when I play games such as Batman Arkham City, I experience very smooth gameplay with high fps. The only thing that worries me is when I play, the laptop heats up very much and the fan runs pretty loudly. Even with old, less intensive games like GTA SA, the computer gets pretty hot and the fan runs loudly. Is this damaging the computer, or can I continue to play these games?
Thanks.

Yes you can continue to play games but heat is the bane of electronics and in time there will be a cost. When is hard to say, but I can put it this way, a fan running constantly at high speed is more likely to fail sooner than one at a slower speed.
Ciao.

Hi. i just bought a refurbished Pavilion 17 from best buy. i love everything about this computer except for the fan. The fan is always on, wven when web browsing. the only wait to quiet it is too put it into power saver or not do anything. i cant even do a screen record with OBS, or play a simple game like minecraft without the fan on full blast. it really disrupts talking on skype or recording with the Mic. The laptop is not hot at all, and the temps sit around 30-40 deg Celsius. ive provided a video of the loudness of the fan.
NOTE: I know that this is sitting on a bed and part of the fan is covered. I still have this issue even if the fan isnt blocked.

Hi
Try to follow the steps given in here:
Reducing Fan Noise
I know its not overheating, but its worth ruling out the check points given in this:
Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating
Do a complete hard drive test & memory test from BIOS System Diagnostics F2if you can, also update BIOS, update all the latest drivers - graphics, chipset etc & also latest Windows updates.
Do a hard reset, that might do the trick in most cases. Or just check the connections after all that is done.
Read on this & prompty follow it ---
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8)
Hope this resolves your issue,
If these troubleshooting doesn't go well, I think you might want to go to the repair center.

• How to fix iPad that has a green screen and lags when you try watching videos

How do you fix your iPad when it has a green screen and it lags when you try to watch videos, such as from YouTube?
I tried to watch YouTube on Safari but it does not work, and the app version of YouTube does not work either. When the video is playing, it will start to turn green, and it will lag.
Please, I would really appreciate it if you can help me, because I really want to watch videos again.
Thank you very much!

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't help it is most likely a hardware failure. Make an appointment at an apple store to have the device examined by a technician.

• 17" fan is loud and on all the time?!?

I am helping a friend of mind with their new intel-Mac 17" w/1gig of RAM.
The computer went to sleep one day and then could only boot to the blue screen. The fans are on all the time also and quit loud.
I did an Arcive and Install. No go. Same problems.
So I Erased the drive and re-loaded it from the included DVD system disks 1 and 2.
It works now, but the fans still run all the time and are very loud. It is updated to the very lasted system software and other updates by Software Update.
Any ideas why this computer has such a fan problem?
Thanks,

My new 20" ICD iMac was quiet for a month till it started doing the full blast fan routine. I also zapped the PRAM and reset the SMU with no luck at all. I then came across this article which I thought was irrelevent to the situation: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300351
I thought what the heck, and gave it a try. Lo and behold, the fan noise disappeared and was back to normal. Don't know if it was luck or what but I am glad its back to normal!

• Why are my fans so loud and my macbook pro so hot?

I have a 15" MacBook Pro. I've had it since a little bit before Christmas and the fan has always been so loud and the laptop itself, as well as the charger, tend to get VERY hot VERY quickly. I'm keeping it elevated so it's not being suffocated but it doesn't seem to help. I've already checked Activity Monitor and nothing is running up my CPU very much and I'm out of options. Any help is appreciated!! It's driving me crazy!!

Those are very, very high temperatures and very high fan speeds just trying to cool things down.
Now - which applications or processes are turning up the heat? Open Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) and select "All Processes" and sort by CPU %:
Then post your screenshot (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4391) using the little camera icon in the composition bar at the top of your reply.

• XP startup sound loud and distorted when EQ is enab

I have a Soundblaster Li've! 24-bit card and, when I enable the equalizer, my Windows XP startup wav is super loud and distorted, but everything else sounds fine. Turn the eq off and the startup sound is normal again.

Hmm, enable your EQ, but in the mixer for volume turn it down a notch and also turn the wave volume down a notch as well. If you have it at 00% you can get distortion. Set Main Volume and Wave volume to about 90 % and see if that hel
ps.

• After browsing websites, the fans get louder and louder, no internet.

Hi,
With my 2011 Macbook Pro 15inch, I have found that browsing some websites causes the fans to spin up very loud and the internet to drop.
Websites won't load etc. Even after reconnecting to my wireless network. The only thing that seems to fix it is rebooting.
Sometimes this will happen quickly, other times it may take an hour of browsing before the internet stops working and the tell-tale sign of the loud fans
makes an appearance.
All other features of the laptop work, just not the internet. Across all browsers too.
Thanks in advance,
Finn

The only way to know what is going on is to retrieve the certificate and check who is the issuer.
It is always possible that the server doesn't send the full certificate chain (intermediate certificates), so it might help to post a link to this website
Check the date and time in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details to expand this section.
If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If "I Understand the Risks" is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.

• NEW HARD DRIVE - FANS RUNNING LOUD AND RED LIGHT

I've just installed another hard drive in the lower bay of my G5 1.8. I took one drive out and inserted the new one, leaving the original hard disk with the operating system on where it was.
As soon as I pressed the "on" button the machine powered up but with the fans on very loud and a red light on inside the machine.
The G5 starts up fine. The new hard drive is recognised.
Any ideas what's gone wrong as it wasn't behaving like this before?
Thanks in anticipation

Hi gravenors, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
You could try checking that the clear plastic air deflector has been replaced correctly.
If it seems to be in place, but the fan and red LED are still on, please post again - as there are further things to try.
