Multiple DBs in Oracle XE

I need multiple databases to test procedures in an ETL tool. How can these best be created in Oracle XE above and beyond the standard XE db that is standard?

If you are speaking about different schemas/users then you can create them as many as you want on a XE db as far as the total amount isn't more than limits defined here http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/xe/pdf/dbxe_faq.pdf
If you are speaking about more than one instance on the same box then it is not allowed as far as I can understand even if you somehow are smart enough to crack it and install two instances on a single box. I assume this sentence "Single instance only of Oracle Database XE on any server" says that, which is copied out of the above mentioned doc.

  • How to use multiple instances in Oracle CRM On Demand

    Hi,
    Just wanted to know if we can have multiple instances in Oracle CRM On Demand? Our company has bought licenses for Oracle CRM On demand and have received a single link for the development / staging, but we have two seperate business units that will be using this systems and their processes are completely different....I thing i wanted to ask is if we can have a sub system within a big system without both interfering into each others processes.
    I hope it makes sense.
    Thanks
    Ahmed

    Hi Ahmed,
    This might be quite possible. Again, it depends on the organizational and technical complexity of both these BU's.
    1. There can be different processes in different geographies in which your application might be used. Inorder to achieve this in a single instance of CRM On Demand.
    There can be some fields that are specific to certain region, in that case you can use Roles, Access Profiles, Dynamic Layouts to change the Fields of the layouts which will allow the user to enter/read information specific to only that user.
    2. Workflows can be used to trigger an event only for users in certain BU defined in your application.
    Also the Sales Process is specific to a Role and by configuring them correctly you can make these processes fit your requirements.
    3. There are somethings that always remain the same though, like Accounts, Contacts , other entities and the pre-defined relationships, their names. Off-course these can be modified but when modified they apply through the applications. So you won't be able to have different names to the Account entity in the Major BU and the subset BU.
    I would suggest you get in touch with Oracle Expert Services if you are looking to get more details on how you can make best out of a single instance.
    Good Luck!

  • Essentials to set up multiple instances in oracle 9i rel2

    Hi,
    Kindly show me the essentails required to setup multiple instances in Oracle 9i rel2.
    in another words, i would like to create two schema/users in the same name in oracle. One schema will be used to do software testing and another used as either backup or online database.
    Thanks
    SCIL

    Could you please look into the problem in detail.
    1.     I have a production database in the schema scil_eu.
    2.     I would like to host a test database in the same machine.
    3.     So what would be the schema name for this test database?
    4.     If I use, scil_eu, it will not allow since it is duplicated.
    5.     If I use a different name, like scil_test, then the following objects – indexes, triggers and etc would still be created in the online schema ie. Scil_eu.
    Please sugest a solution.

  • Can RDBMS Adapter run against multiple versions or Oracle?

    We are currently running WLI 7.0 sp2 with Oracle 8.1.7 as the db.
    We need to run an adapter against an Oracle 8.1.7 EIS as well as another Oracle
    9.2 EIS. Is this possible?
    Maybe a better way to put it is can WL have connection pools to multiple versions
    of Oracle at the same time?
    It seems to me like it would be a problem since the drivers are found inside the
    classpath -- and how would it know which driver is the correct one for each version.
    Jared

    The answer is there in Metalink.
    But since you asked your question so nicely... 8.1.7 is certified with Oracle9i Forms.

    Help me plz..

    There are two possibilities:
    1) Run the SQL commands, one command at a time;
    2) Create a script of multiple commands, and run the script.
    These are discussed in some detail in the online documentation at http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/homepage
    In particular, look at

  • Configuring Multiple Schemas in Oracle ADF application

    Hi,
    Thanks all for the replies for my previous posts :-)
    We have a requirement in which we need to configure our application for multiple Database schema. At runtime based upon the logged in user we need to get data from the schema related to that user.
    These schema may be on same Database instance/server or may be on different DB servers.
    The requirement is like this
    Logged in User DB schema configured
    "A" ASchema @ 127.0.0.1
    "B" BSchema @ 127.0.0.2
    "C" ASchema @  127.0.0.1
    "D" Dschema @ 127.0.0.2
    based on the User login (which is happening through one OID system), I need to fetch data from different schema (configured for different application).
    These schema have different set of tables but set of table we require for our application are of same structure.
    Same structure means same Table names with same relations.
    Please let me know can we do the same in Oracle ADF application and How?_
    One more requirement is that if i add a user at runtime and configure the DB schema for this user, All data related to this users will be loaded from this Schema which is configured for this user.
    Thanks in Advance,

    You can try the below example to change database at run time.
    in the filter change the connection and not the credentials
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/dynamicjdbchowto-101755.html#03.
    Most of the other part is done to handle state management tables, which you might also have to do unless you use a file passivation store or if its ok to passivate to a single database always.
    If its ok to passivate to a single db always. Hard code the jbo.server.internal_connection in the AM configurations to a DB jndi name.
    Adf allows you to activate and passivate to a different database other than what you are connected to get and put data.

  • How can I return multiple values using Oracle 9i Web Services ?

    Hi, Is it possible to return multiple parameters using WebServices in general ? And if yes, how do we do it using Oracle 9i WebServices ?
    At my client usually I call
    return_value = SoapClient.MehtodName(param1, param2, param3)
    If i need more than one return_value...how do we handle that ?
    Thanks,
    -Krishna

    Anyone has any ideas about this ?
    And also if i want a collection in one of the input parameters...how to do that ?
    Does Oracle WS have any such support ? Or we have devise our own way like sending it by separators or something like that ?
    Thanks,

  • Insert Insert XML file into multiple records in Oracle Database

    I would like to find out if it is possible to insert a single XML file into multiple records or tuples in a Oracle database table. I have a single XML file which is at multiple levels. The meta data for the levels are common and each level can have meta data of their own in addition. I do not have any meta data field which will uniquely determine whether the data belongs to Root level, Intermediate level or at the document level. Is there any way I can determine which level the meta data belongs to and thereby make a corresponding entry into the database table tuple? For example I could have an attribute called level which is going to be present only in the database table and not in the XML file. If level=1 then it corresponds to "Root" meta data, if level=2 then it corresponds to "Intermediate" level and if level=3 then it corresponds to meta data at document level. I need a way to calculate the value for level from the XML file and thereby insert the meta data element into a tuple in a single table in Oracle.

    Hi,
    extract your xml and then you can use insert all clause.
    here's very small example on 10.2.0.1.0
    SQL> create table table1(id number,val varchar2(10));
    Table created.
    SQL> create table table2(id number,val varchar2(10));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert all
      2  into table1 values(id,val)
      3  into table2 values(id2,val2)
      4  select extractValue(x.col,'/a/id1') id
      5        ,extractValue(x.col,'/a/value') val
      6        ,extractValue(x.col,'/a/value2') val2
      7        ,extractValue(x.col,'/a/id2') id2
      8  from (select xmltype('<a><id1>1</id1><value>a</value><id2>2</id2><value2>b</value2></a>') col from dual) x;
    2 rows created.
    SQL> select * from table1;
            ID VAL
             1 a
    SQL> select * from table2;
            ID VAL
             2 b                                                                    Ants

  • Can I export using a single dump directory to multiple locations in oracle

    I'm trying to do a full database export using expdp utility in oracle 10g. I have a single dump directory that is mapped to a particular file location say /export/dump. I don't want the entire dump file to be stored in the above path. Instead I want the dump to be distributed among multiple files. I know that this can be done using FILESIZE parameter which will distribute the contents to multiple files according to the size we have specified.
    My problems comes here, I want to export my data to multiple locations, the path is different than what I mentioned above, say /first/dump. Now my question is should I create multiple dump directories for each location before exporting or can I omit directory attribute in expdp and specify the complete path in the FILE parameter itself.

    No. EXPDP needs the server component LOGICAL DIRECTORY. If you don't specify the directory, it will go to the default EXPDP path which will be mostly /rdbms/log. It's defined by the parameters DATA_PUMP_DIR.
    You will have to specify directory attribute if you want to point your dumpfile to go to any specific location and you cannot give the directory path in the file name in EXPDP (unlike conventional exp)

  • ASM instance for Multiple DBs in a RAC environment - 10GR2

    Are there any drawbacks if you create 2 RAC databases ex Chicago (consisting on 2 nodes Chicago1 and Chicago2) and Orlando (consisting of Oralndo1 and Oralndo2) on the same ASM instance running on Oracle 10G R2.
    Would it be better to create 2 ASM instances?
    Thanks

    ASM is node specific. Meaning you can only have one ASM instance per node.. its like any other volume manager. You only need one volume manager/storage manager to handle the storage for a given node. Its no different with ASM.
    So irrespective of the number of databases you plan to create on a node, you will only have one ASM instance.
    A word of caution when creating multiple RDBMS instances, is to ensure you have sufficient resources for this. Unless the user access patterns are considerably different or the business needs stipulate separate database, you should also consider database consolidation if possible.
