Multiple devices in itunes

Hi we have muliple devices sharing 1 iTunes acct and 1 apple id...we seem to share all contacts which is frustrating and our iPad appears to receive all text messages....we ideally want to share iTunes purchases but nothing else....how do we do this please

You need seperate Apple IDs for iCloud on the devices. iTunes and iCloud are two separate services
Create a new Apple ID(s) > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
On the device(s) go Settings > iCloud > Delete Account > Sign in with the new Apple ID
This will seperate your Contacts and Messages. All the devices can continue to use the same Apple ID for iTunes and share apps and music
Hope that helps

  • How do I sync multiple devices on iTunes without apps that are only on an iPad Air not sync on other devices?

How do I sync multiple devices on iTunes (iPad Air & iPhone 5) without apps that are only on an iPad Air not syncing on my iPhone 5? I have apps on the iPad that I do not want on the iPhone, but when I sync my iPhone I have apps that are on the iPad sync to it also. How do I fix this so only the apps/data on each device sync to it?

    Settings
    iTUnes and app store
turn off automatic downloads for apps
Then what you buy on one device only goes onto another if you want it to

  • Using multiple devices in iTunes, each with different iTunes accounts

My husband and I are trying to go from 2 computers to 1 in the house, but cannot figure out how we can run iTunes on one computer, with multiple iTunes accounts and NOT download each others apps, music etc automatically. My son also has an ipod which I want to have as a separate account.
We still want to be able to share some of the downloads amongst each other - but selectively, and not have them automatically downloaded as they would if there were all on the one library / account.
From what I can see on the online forums I can create a new library for each device to stop the automatic transfer of purchases, but then cannot find how we can select what we do and dont want to share amongst each other, or if this is even possible with multiple libraries.
Is there a way that I can do all of the following:
Have multiple devices on 1 computer in iTunes
Each device has its own iTunes account
Each device retains its own library
Each device can select what purchases we want to share amongst the devices, without it automatically transferring onto each device?
    Many thanks!

  • How do you setup multiple users with multiple devices on itunes?

I'm trying to find the easiest solution to our family music situation.  4 users, 4 devices (ipods, ipad, imac, pc laptops), and 4 different musical song interests.  I'm sure there are millions of households that have the same exact situation.  I want to be able to pull up only my musical library, not my kid's music, and then easily synch it to my ipod.  Everyone in the family wants to do this same thing.  I have spent alot of time trying to search the forums/internet and there does not seem to be one "most popular" solution.  I did setup iCloud for each family member using a different Apple ID than my main Apple ID, and I'm happy that ALL the music shows up on my ipad.  But between iCloud, MobileMe, Home Sharing it all gets very confusing.  Some say to setup multiple computer login accounts, and others say to setup 1 playlist for each family member and synch from that playlist.
I would think 1 itunes account allows you to easily share a purchased song with 4 users, instead of buying songs twice.
So here are a few of my questions-
1-Is it best to have only 1 itunes account and then synch all devices off of 1 main computer?
2-Or since we each have iCloud accounts, will they be able to synch their ipods from their own pc laptop?
3-And when they synch, what is the easiest way to exclude other users music in itunes? (other than unchecking hundreds of artists)
4-Or setup 4 separate computer login accounts on the imac and then keep 1 itunes account?  If so, how does this work when they open itunes?
Again, I'm hoping for a straightforward simple solution.  I don't want to move & create libraries, download 3rd party software, etc. etc.  Please reply if you found something that works for your family.  Thanks in advance.

turingtest, I do have a couple questions.
Number one, does everyone in your family only sych their ipods from only 1 computer?  If everyone only uses itunes from 1 computer I can see how that will work.  But what if kids want to use itunes for windows?  Will "Home Sharing" allow all their music purchased on the MAC, to be also displayed on their itunes for windows laptop?  I noticed you have PCs and also an ipad.  How do you manage your family's music on these devices?
Also, how did you first get everyone's music library into their own library?  Drag & drop?  Is the "grouping field" you mentioned under "view", then "view options"?  What does this do?
    Thanks.
Sorry I missed your post earlier. Normally I follow up on any replies. This one must have fallen off the page on a busy day.
As my kids have left home I have created for them a complete clone of the familiy library, then deleted the tracks from it they don't want. Over time their libraries will divirge, but if needs be they can still update their devices using the library at home. Handy when eldest's kit was stolen.
Grouping is just another property, useful because it isn't generally overwritten by other software but is stored in the tags, so preserved when you copy files from one place to another. You can make the column visible and edit for multiple tracks in Get Info. Some software calls the same field "mood" or "sub-genre". iTunes has a specialist purpose for it generally used with classical music, but it doesn't seem to work very well for that and I don't use it that way.

  • Multiple devices on iTunes account how do I use the iCloud without us getting each others texts

I have 2 iPhones one is mine one is my boyfriends when I downloaded the software he was receiving my texts on his phone even though I chose to only connect his phone through my computer both phones and my iPad are on the Samuel iTunes account I deleted the account from the iCloud to stop it but how do I keep the cloud and stop it from getting our texts on both phones?????

You can keep everyone on your iTunes account all you have to do is have everyone create there own iCloud account. Me, my wife, and my son all have our own iCloud for our own use. I have my 3 devices linked to mine, my son has 2 linked to his and my wife has 2 also. For some reason by default the iDevice will ask you to use your iTunes account but you don't have to. You can create it right from the device itself if you want a @me account which is the way to go IMO. you can also go to iCloud.com and create it there too. We have a total of 8 devices linked to one iTunes account for purchases and everything works like a champ. Hope this helps.

  • Multiple Devices on itunes Account

Is there a limit to the number of devices that you can attach to an itunes account?

    Hello Sue,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. The number of devices one Apple ID can handle is up to 10. The following article goes into detail about that process.

  • Multiple devices, one iTunes, how to transer and sync properly

    I have a complicated question.
I recently purchase a new iphone and ipad.  I now have 3 devices, personal iphone, work iphone and an ipad 2 (which has not been synched yet).
My personal iphone is connected to my personal computer, a PC.  My PC has my entire music collection connected to but is stored on an external hard drive.
My work iphone is connected to another computer, a mac book pro. This has no music, some media files and all the applications for my work iphone plus some photos and videos I use for work.
As I stated, I have not hooked the ipad 2 up yet.
I want to transfer the itunes library from my PC to my mac but keep it on the external hard drive for portability and safety as I travel with the mac and would prefer to keep the library, photos and other content sperate.
I want to know the best way to transfer the library, have the mac point to the hard drive and then sync all 3 devices but not load all the content on each devices.  The personal iphone should only have music and personal photos while the work iphone should remain the same as it is today with only work phots and no mucsic.  The ipad can contain everything.
Is there a way to have each device synch seperately but all link to the same itunes on the mac via an external hard drive.
    Thank you.

I can not even see the device after I decline the option to erase and sync with the other devise.  Sorry, I am a bit techno challenged.  Can you help with a blow by blow?
    much appreciation.

  • Multiple devices one itunes account

    Hi,
I have an itunes account for my iphone and ipad, now my kids have just got ipod touches for Christmas which i have added as new devices to my itunes account. When my daughter sends an imessage it appears on all the devices linked to my account, including granny's new iphone! How can I stop this, do I have to have separate email accounts for them, as they also want to facetime, help please!

I have ipod touch, When you register the ipod Touch give it a unique name. I have also connected all three at same time unless there is an issue I have missed I have had no problem. YOu can also set an option so that when you connect the device itunes will not start and then you can manually start it and choose the device you want to upgrade..etc.

  • Multiple devices using iTunes on multiple Windows accounts interchangeably

I have searched this topic online extensively and have not been able to find a case similar to mine explained. So I am hoping that I can get some assistance here.
I have a Windows XP PC with 2 user accounts - one for me and one for my wife. I have 4 devices that sync to the 2 accounts today as follows:
    - My iTunes account/library
    1. iPhone - synching Outlook contacts, ringtones, videos
    - Wife's iTunes account/library
    2. My iPod - synching music
    3. Wifes' iPod - synching music
    4. Baby's iPod - synching music
There is no music in my iTunes library as all our music is on her library. What I want to do is sync some songs to my iPhone by connecting it to her iTunes library. I want to continue to sync my other data on my iTunes account. Is there any way that I can do this without iTunes prompting to delete all data off my iPhone when I attempt to sync music from her iTunes library to my iPhone?
    Thanks.

No. Use a flash drive to copy what you want from your wife's library and add it to your own library, and then sync your iPhone as normal.

  • Downloading on multiple devices from iTunes

I made some purchases on my iPad and they aren't showing up on my powerbook which has the same iTunes account. How to I download them on my powerbook?

Whether you can redownload items depends upon what type of item it is : audiobooks anfd ringtones are one-time only downloads ; music, films and TV shows are redownloadable depending upon your country. What you can redownload will show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage
If you can't redownload an item then is that the computer that you sync your iPad to ? If it is then you can connect it and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to your Mac.
