  • Syncing multiple devices, user accounts, iTunes accounts one computer

    I have a question that I can't find a clear answer.
I previous had one iPod touch and one iPad that I synched with my iTunes library. No problem. But now the wife has finally purchased a verizon iPhone and I want to be able to use my vast app collection for her phone.
Scenario is we each have separate user accounts (so we can maintain our own calendars and contacts, ect.). We each have our own ITunes accounts and our own iTunes libraries by default. She will not be purchasing much on her account though.
How do I, without creating a can of worms, create one library to sync to so I can put apps and music on her phone without erasing any of her separate information. I have read a lot on the subject and there does not seem to be a clear answer anywhere. Yes, I have read ht1495 but that does not seem to be exactly on point
Basically, I have 3 devices, 2 user accounts and 2 iTunes accounts but one computer only. I want to be able to have all iTunes stuff available on both user accounts and be able to have both people be able to read and write to the same library. I am sure there are plenty of people running into this issue with more and more people getting iPhones with verizon. It seems that it is easier to do with multiple computers than one computer.
So, I am looking for help or advice on the easiest way to accomplish this task.
    IMac   Mac OS X (10.6.6)

The easiest way to accomplish want you want is to transfer what content you want to the separate iTunes library under each user account. To transfer content from your library to your wife's library so that she can use it on her phone, do this:
    1. Launch iTunes under your wife's login.
    2. Sign her out of iTunes & then you sign in.
    3. iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Disable auto-sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected.
    4. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC!
    5. Store>Authorize this Computer(only have to do this once).
    6. File Transfer Purchases(all of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred to your wife's library).
    7. When complete, eject your phone, sign out of iTunes, sign your wife back in.
You can now sync whatever content you want to your wife's phone. Just remember, all updates to apps obtained using your account must be done while signed in using your account: sign wife out, you sign in, update apps, you sign out, sign wife in, sync her phone.
This way you can share content(permitted under the EUSLA) and still maintain your separate logins. Do the same under your login if you want to share content from your wife's library.
Just load whatever content you want to share on each others phones, transfer the content, then delete it from the respective phone if you don't want to keep it there.

  • Organizing multiple devices and accounts without losing content

I have multiple apple devices ( 3 mac book pro's, 2 iphones and 2 itouch ) all under one roof.  I associated all of these devices under one apple ID and my Itunes and Icloud account is quite a mess.  I need to separate the three MacBook's so that each of them will synch with a single iphone or itouch.  How do I do this without losing content purchased under the original apple ID ?  ie., My macbook-my iphone, my wife's macbook-her iphone, my daughter's macbook-her itouch.

If you want to take a big iTunes library and make separate libraries, the best way is to give each computer a copy of the full library, and let the person delete what they don't want.  When they each have their library the way they want it, they can sync their own device.
Not sure what you want to do with the accounts.  Content purchased from the iTunes Store is permanently associated with the account from which it was originally purchased, and there has never been a way to change it.

  • Methods to managing multiple devices and accounts.

My wife just got a new iPhone.  this is added to my iPhone and a few iPod touches for the kids.  Between cloud accounts, apple accounts, itunes accounts,  . . . What is the best way to manages multiple accounts and what is the differentiation between the different accounts?  I am not even sure what accounts are available.  Is my Apple account different from my iTunes account?  Apple ID seems to be everywhere.  So I need my wife to have her own Apple ID, this I believe to be true.  But what about syncing to the general iTunes account. We have one iMac with all our music on it.  How can she sync with her Mac Book for contacts or what ever and sync to the family iTunes account for music.  I am so confused?  Help.
    Thank you,
    Doug

  • Multiple devices and accounts?

    Hello
I've been using iTunes on Windows for many years and then on a Mac Mini for the last 2 years. Life was simple, I had my own iPods and then also an iPhone, no other users to think about.
However, life is now more complicated. My wife now has an iPhone 5, I have an iPhone 6 Plus and my 12 year old son now has an iPad. All of us have a separate apple id and I've set up family sharing.
My question is with regard to syncing which is all done by me, using my user profile on the Mac Mini. What I'm not sure about is whether it is ok to stay logged into my iTunes account when syncing all devices, or whether I need to log into the other iTunes accounts when I am syncing the devices. Or due to us having family sharing, does it even matter?
I don't want to go down the route of setting up separate accounts on my Mac Mini as this will mean more work for me switching from one account to the other when I want to sync devices.
Therefore, when I'm syncing the iPad for example, should I log out of my Itunes account and into the account of my son?
I hope that all makes sense, any advice/replies would be appreciated.
    Best wishes
    Rick

If you have Family Sharing, do not worry about that. The problem without Family Sharing was that apps purchased with different Apple IDs may be synced with your devices, so everything was a mess at the time of updating the applications.

  • FaceTime issues with multiple devices & one account

I have an iPhone 5s, an iPad Mini and 2 iPod Touch devices, all on the same account and Apple ID. Is there any way to iMessage or FaceTime from one device to ONE other device(not all of them)? Thanks!

You can create another Appleid and use it only for FaceTime and/or messages on 1ipad.
In this manner you can maintain a parent account for all and have child accounts for messaging only.
You would simply log out of messages and log in with new id

  • Multiple devices, one account

Is it legal to purchase an app and put it on more than one device with the same account? If so, is there a way to transfer an app from an iphone to an ipod touch when there is no wifi to connect the ipod touch to the internet/app store?
    Thanks!

I understand about syncing - that is not my question. I am asking if there is any OTHER way to transfer apps if you are in a situation where you do not have access to itunes or wifi (to re-download from the app store). There are apps to transfer pictures (i.e. Bump), so I was wondering if there is a way to transfer apps.

  • Can I share an iTunes account with multiple devices?

I had an iPhone 3GS. Just upgraded to an iPhone 5C. I'd like to save the 3GS for our daughter to use as an iPad Touch. I realize that I'll need to wipe the 3GS clean and start over with new apps for her. I have a few questions:
Can I use my same iTunes account for both devices, or must I create a new iTunes account for my daughter's app and music purchases?
How do I change the device name in iTunes, so that her iPhone no longer bears my name?
Also, can I sync both devices on the same computer, or is it better to use different computers for the two devices?
    Thank you!

    Agile,
Any of the above will work, depending how you would like to set it up.
Given that kids tend to eventually grow up and be independent, the best long term answer for most people is to let her have her own account and her own library as soon as she can handle it.  Keep in mind that content purchased from the iTunes Store is permanently tied to the account from which it was originally purchased, so separating later is a challenge.
If you want to sync multiple devices to the same library, that will work.  Or if you want separate libraries (as I would recommend), they can be either on separate computers or on separate Windows user accounts on the same PC.
For the name change:  Connect the device.  When the name appears in the left sidebar of iTunes, highlight it and change it.

  • One computer, one iTunes account, multiple devices and iCloud accounts, help!

We have a family MacBook and have always held a single iTunes account. We have multiple devices (iTunes Match has proved to be very useful). We have 2 x iCloud accounts. This causes an issue in terms of synchronisation. Is it possible to synch calendars and photos? As mentioned, the music is no longer an issue with iTunes match. Is there a way that we can synch calendars and photos without having to use a single iCloud account? In addition, the only reason we have separate iCloud accounts is for email. Can I keep my mobile.me email without an iCloud account?

I personally would recommend to use different iCloud account for your own stuff like email, calendars, reminders etc. If you want to have a calendar for your family then just share it via your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Yes, you could keep you me,com email address but it should be migrated to icloud because MobileMe was shut down.

  • One itunes account multiple devices in family - help

I have one itunes account but multiple devices used by the family and I am having conflicts with sharing and face time, imessage etc.
    Listed devices
Me - iphone 5, Ipad mini, Apple Tv, Macbook Pro 13" (just purchased)
    Wife - iphone 5, ipad
Daughter - iphone 4, ipad mini
    Son - iphone 4
    Son - ipad
At the moment we all use one itunes account (mine) we all have our own email adresses etc.
I have itunes U which can be accessed.
The problem is everyone wants to use face time and imessage etc but I keep having conflicts with the devices sharing eachothers messages etc. Plus not eveyone wants to share photos etc so how do you manage that across mulitple devices.
Is it a set up issue or is it easier for everyone to have their own accounts.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You could simply ensure that only the numbers and addresses you wish to use on each device are checked at Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. However this isn’t an ideal solution because the other person can always change these settings from their device and have some fun with you and your contacts.
You’d be far better getting them to delete your account from their device and have them create one of their own. If you are sharing an ID for some other service such as iTunes, you can continue to do so, you only need change the ID for messages.

  • Sync multiple devices owned by other family members to one iTunes account

I am wondering if it is OK since we have one imac computer running iTunes in the house, but I have an iphone and ipad, my son has an iphone, my daughter has and ipod, and my wife has an iphone, if it is OK to be syncing all of our devices under MY login in iTunes.  Or should I log out of iTunes and have that particular person log in to iTunes each time we sync?  Not sure how that would work though when each device is set up to sync over wifi if I stay logged in on the computer and in iTunes.  I just hate to see all the apps in the apps section of the iTunes/Devices/Sync Apps.  Not a problem though since it does keep them seperate...most of the time.  I mean, it seems as though a few times I have hooked up a device and it corrupted my sync causing all my newly synced devices to change the apps.  Only happened a few times.  This is kind of vague info, but it hasn't happened only a few times and I don't know how better to explain it.  The main question here is as stated in the beginning.
Also, on a seperate note that I'll rant about in a seperate listing, I really hate the fact that I have to login into iTunes with a third party (Gmail) email address.  I converted over from a PC and from Google Android to a Mac and iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple TV....and I have set up everyone with @me.com addresses, but we can't login to iTunes/Apple ID with them.

That doesnt apply very well. Everyone in my family has a separate account. Although for the main home sharing and apple tv it is off my account. I suppose that it is a good thing that we use one pc since everything stored on the hard rive that I sync to iTunes is then available for any user to sync to there device. Ie; home videos, movies ripped from DVD, CDs, etc...plus I have one original,iPod touch with no cloud support. I just synced it to my itunes on our one pc and it transferred to my pc over 640 purchases. Albeit they were all free, but now I have to sift through them all in the iTunes/devices/sync apps screen. Oh well. It actually seems as though the way I'm doing it is the best for my family of six with many multiple devices and im sure more to come in time. Again I can always sign out and let someone else sign into iTunes. A plus this way since still all my media is on my pc and network storage drive.

Welcome to the world of digital media. Your can't really transfer it. I don't know what the rules are about transferring to your spouse but I do know that in some cases when you die, your heirs cannot inherit your digital media. This is why there is still an advantage to buying the CD since the usage rights belong to whomever holds the physical media.
A possible workaround is to burn the songs to a music CD with yout account (tracks only without song titles) and then having your wife upload it as a regular music CD onto her account. It's been a while since i've done this so I'm not sure if it would work now.
Please note that I'm not advocating copyright and/or TOS violations. I'm only suggesting ways to copy music for your own personal use which has traditonally been permitted. I only did this because I wanted to convert iTunes songs to mp3 files so I could burn them onto a data CD for use in my car. It would make sense that since married couples are a joint entity, this would be personal use.
Also, I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice.

  • My husband and I have separate iTunes accounts and multiple devices (iPads, iPhones, iPods etc) how do we share our music and apps between our devices if we have different iTunes accounts.

Help! My husband and I have multiple devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod ) that we we have linked to individual iTunes accounts ie he has his account with iPad, iPhone, PC and iPod linked/sync and I have my account with iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, PC etc.. How do we share our music and apps across/between our accounts?

It probably means that only one of you can use iCloud or at least sync calender/contacts with it. I would guess that you could manually manage the other phone as you have before.

  • My Ipod touch will not synch all songs in my library - on my windows 8 laptop. Doesn't matter if the songs are checked or not - only some songs will synch to the IPOD. I have multiple devices and two accounts.

My IPOD touch will not synch all songs in my library. Library is on a windows 8 laptop. Checking the songs does not matter. I have multiple devices (ipod, IPhone 4 and 5, IPad 2) and two ITunes accounts.

All songs play on the laptop windows 8. The second Ipod touch we have - all songs synch to it and play.
But the first Ipod touch we bought - only half (or so) of the songs synch. So I assume there is an issue with the newer Ipod touch. The songs not synching are songs I added to the library from CD's.

  • I have multiple devices (imacs, lap tops and ipads) all connected to a NAS server.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife, and each have our own apple ID, and Itunes accounts, but all share the same media on NAS drives?

I have multiple devices (iMacs, Lap tops, Ipads) all connected to a Nas Drive.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife and we each have our own apple ID's, Itunes etc, but share the same data on the hard drives?  So when she logs in, and sync's her ipads, they will sync with her stuff and when I do the same under my user account, on the same device, my ipads will sync with my stuff?

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.)  This will prevent you from ending up with merged data.  You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.
