Multiple devices on same apple id with itunes

I own a iphone 3gs and each of my sons (10 & 7) have a ipod nano i.e. x3 devices. At the moment i have one apple id in my name and have successfully registered each device seperately and given them each their own names. Syncing each device copies the whole of my computers library to each device but what if i want to be selective about what i copy to each device i.e. they may not want to listen to my music and i may not want to listen to theirs? Is the way to do that to select 'manually manage music and videos' and create a specific playlist with each of our names (will it hold video and music and perhaps even games?).

Method 2 is the easiest:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
I use method 1, since I want my play counts ad ratings different.
A caution about method 3 - don't use it unless every user is trained to open itunes with a shift-start, every time.

  • Multiple Macs using same Apple ID for iTunes

I have two macs, and I've been trying to download itunes purchased content onto one that I purchased on the other. I'm using the same Apple ID for iTunes access on both, but now it won't let me download, giving me that infuriating message about only being able to associate a device with one Apple ID over a three month period. I've neved used any other Apple ID for this, so I'm very confused about what could be happening. Only started after "upgrading" to iOS5 and iCloud.

iTunes Match is associated with only one Apple ID and cannot be shared across Apple IDs. For your wife to make use of iTunes Match and see the music in the cloud she must login to your Apple ID on the iTunes Store and she will have to stay logged in. This may cause difficulty when updating apps purchased with her Apple ID.
Also keep in mind that a computer can only be associated with one Apple ID for iTunes Match, automatic downloads and re-downloading of content once every 90 days: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627.

  • Multiple devices on same apple account

My children were given new ipod touches for Christmas. Now I have four devices on my Apple ID and the kids have access to my aps and contacts.
How do I take their devices off my account and set them up their own?
    Thanks in advance,
    Joe

First of all , you need to create them an apple ID - you can do this on iTunes or online at https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/createAppleId?loca lang=en_US ! Then you can manually sign out of iTunes , Email , FaceTime etc , or you can reset the device (which will ovcourse delete all the content on the iPod) and then log in with their apple ID ! - Remember when creating an apple ID you have to use an email , but it can't be yours so you'll have to use a diffrent email ! Hope this helps !

  • Multiple devices using same apple id.  How do i break it up?

I have 2 iphones one ipad and 2 ipod touches all sharing the same apple id.  I want to add a new apple id for my wife and her iphone and ipod touch.  How do I do this and how can we share our bought items?

Purchased items are tied to the ID, you can create a new one for your wife but you won't be able to transfer the content.

  • Problems with multiple devices using same apple ID

I have a Macbook, iPad and iPhone. After doing an IOS update now my devices keep saying I cannot use that same appleid because it's already taken. I cannot find away around this and want to know experience of others

That warning occurs only if you try to create a new Apple ID using an email address already in use. An existing Apple ID can be used with mutiple devices.
What exactly did you do when you got that message?

  • We have multiple devices in our family.  On each iPad/iPhone each user has their own apple id for iMessage, Facetime and icloud, but we all sign in to the same apple id for itunes.  When one of my kids comments on my shared photostream, it shows my name??

    CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups
Decide on whether to setup as Admin or Standard User.
Switch to the New User by logging out under the Apple in the Menu Bar or use Fast User Switching
Fast User Switching allows other users to leave current applications and windows open. Depending on RAM, you might need to log out rather than use FUS.

  • We had one family apple id. I want to keep all devices on the same apple id for itunes but separate ones for everything else.  How do I change the others now.  We have 3 iphones and an ipad.

We had one family apple id.  I want to keep all devices on the same apple id for itunes but separate for everything else on the cloud. How can I change the other apple ids now? We have 3 iphones and an ipad.

Hi, thank you for this post.  I hope you might be able to help me too?
I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas.  New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally.  I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though
cloud, contacts, facetime, email -  this is what is making me consider separate IDs or learning how to have multiple users in one apple ID - I do not want to have to share synced contacts with my husband. I have near 300 contacts now through work etc and he will not want them plus i will not want his or him being able to delete mine by mistake. and then for email and facetime, well I want to give him his privacy so I do not receive his messages etc. especially now that we are considering switching to iPhones
Then last but not least, i don't know the best solution for my son. he is only 7 years old so even though I don't want to pay for things again I don't want him being able to download "just any" app from the purchased icon in Appstore. Also, is there a child friendly setting to prevent him from viewing inappropriate content on the internet?
Appreciate I have asked a lot of questions here but I am looking for any genuine advice out there. Thank you or other potential advisers in advance.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
That's simply not possible I'm afraid. You'd need to give them their own account and allowance or make it so you are required to be there to input the password when they wish to make a purchase.

  • Can you share specific apps with other devices under same Apple ID?  ...or do you need to enable he sharing of all apps that have been downloaded under that ID?

My family has multiple devices under one apple ID.  I want to share only certain apps with certain family members.  Is it possible to limit what apps are shared with which devices or do I need to share all of the apps that I download for personal use?

Thanks.  I turned off the automatic downloads on the new devices (minis), but when I go into the app store I don't see any of the apps I have bought (for my original iPad) under "purchased".  I was thinking that this was the logical place to find those apps that I want to download to the new devices.  What am aI missing?

  • Multiple devices on same account - how to transfer ALL files in one place?

    Hi,
I am using my Apple ID on 5 apple devices, incl. 2 laptops and Mac. Need to migrate all files to one computer for syncing with iPhone and cut out some devices, but...
Question 1:  How I can move ALL my music files from old MB Pro (runs Mac OS X 10.5.8) with iTunes 10 to Mac (runs Mac OS X 10.9.2) with iTunes 11.1.5?
Note, this includes songs purchased outside of iTunes and burnt from CDs. Is it possible to somehow easily identify the songs that are missing on Mac and copy just them from the old computer, but without manually comparing? For now for whatever reason Mac only has 401 songs vs my old MB Pro has 1670+ songs. So, please suggest how to make the import on the missing songs to Mac as efficient as possible.
Question 2: How do I deauthorize the device once I copy my old music to Mac? Currently only see the button "Deathorize All" in iTunes on Mac. What if I want to choose which computers I still want to be able to stay on the same Apple ID in iTunes?
    Thanks a lot!!

Decide which Mac is your primary. On the Mac that is not the primary - create a folder on the desktop - drag all the tunes from iTunes into that folder - copy that folder to an ext HD or a memory stick.
Plug into the primary Mac and tell iTunes to import all the tunes from the folder.
iTunes has good sort options so it won't take long to get rid of the duplicates using the Show Duplicates from the View dropdown menu.
An alternative would be to check at http://dougscripts.com/itunes/ and see if there is a script that will take care of what you want.

  • Same Apple ID for Itunes but different for Icloud?

Hi! Currently a Mac user with Android Phones and Google/Gmail accounts, contacts, cal, etc.
If the new Iphone and ICloud Drive fulfill expectations, my partner and I will be switching to the iphone and I will probably add an ipad to the mix as well.
I was originally planning to have us both share apple ID and backup to itunes v. cloud. But now I am rethinking that.  My question is: Can we share the same apple ID for itunes and have separate cloud ID's?  How does that work? And how do you set it up?
I know our current icloud ID is the same as our Apple ID which doesn't make sense if you can keep them separate?
    Thanks for helping a newbie!

If you are asking can you have an Apple ID and an iCloud account then the answer is, yes. With iCloud it will  sync all your devices and computers. I'm not going to get into discussing rumours as that's frowned upon. Here's what Apple has published about iCloud Drive: https://www.apple.com/ca/ios/ios8/icloud-drive/

  • How do i connect my apple ID with itunes?

I keep on trying to sign into itunes with my apple id, but it never works . How do I connect my apple ID with itunes?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
You may find that when you try to do this, the password for your old ID it isn't accepted.  If this happens, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Same Apple ID for iTunes, but different Windows accounts...

My wife and I use the same Apple ID for iTunes, but we have different Windows 7 accounts on the same computer. I've uploaded a pile of CDs. ITunes Match seems to match them ok, but she can't see them from iTunes on her account. We could upload the CDs twice, once for each account, but that's a wicked waste of time. Is there a workaround for this?

iTunes Match is associated with only one Apple ID and cannot be shared across Apple IDs.
