Multiple DHCP scopes on WLC 5508 (not showing leases?)

I have 2 DHCP scopes set up on a wlc 5508, one for the AP's and another for a wlan, the leases for the AP's scope show up, but the one that the clients on the WLAN are on do not show up in the "show leases" is that a bug? normal?

Customers using Cisco Unified Wireless solutions have been reporting issues with the DHCP support provided on the Wireless LAN Controller (WLC). Some of these issues are software bugs or debugability problems. Others are due to lack of proper understanding on the DHCP implementation.
This document describes the different DHCP operations on the wireless controller, which provides consistent and accurate information to customers in an effort to reduce the related customer issues and TAC cases.

  • Monitoring DHCP scope on WLC 5508

    Hi,
I have DHCP configured on the anchor controller but I don't know when DHCP scope is full on it. Do you have any idea or experience how to monitoring exhausted DHCP scope on WLC 5508?
    Regarding

Ok but WLC can send syslog messages and base on this we can create an alarm. When DHCP scope is full on the WLC then controller inform us about this:
DHCP Server: Nov 13 11:34:56.321: %DHCP-3-SEND_OFFER_FAIL: dhcpd.c:278 Unable to send DHCP offer. Could not allocate appropriate ip address from the scope
*DHCP Server: Nov 13 11:34:56.321: %DHCP-4-ADDR_NOT_ALLOCATED: serverpacket.c:205 No IP addresses to give -- OFFER abandoned -- packet dropped
*DHCP Server: Nov 13 11:34:52.416: %DHCP-3-SEND_OFFER_FAIL: dhcpd.c:278 Unable to send DHCP offer. Could not allocate appropriate ip address from the scope
*DHCP Server: Nov 13 11:34:52.416: %DHCP-4-ADDR_NOT_ALLOCATED: serverpacket.c:205 No IP addresses to give -- OFFER abandoned -- packet dropped
so If only I could detect this sentence from the syslog messages than I could create an alarm.

    Hi Sean,
There are certain related bugs of this version. You may need to check whether you are hitting one these. I would suggest staying in 7.4.121.0 code would be a good idea unless you require new features available in 7.5 or 7.6.

  • DHCP scope in WLC.

    hi all,
please any one confirm ,is it possible to configure the DHCP scope for APs in WLC ?
i am having 5508 controller connected to L3 switch..if it is possible what need to be done for that.
    thanks in advance.
    venkat

    Hi Venkat,
WLC can lease IPs to APs only if we configure the pool in the same subnet as that of management interface.. having said that, its no possible to assign diff pool for AP which resides in diff subnet on the WLC.. We need to go for either Pool on the Layer 3 device or DHCP server.
IP MAC binding is already enabled on the WLC by default.. AFAIK, this is more usefull for PASSIVE clients rather to active

  • Windows 2008 R2 DHCP scope change - Netsh Exec not working

OK, there seems to be a disconnect between Netsh documentation and how it actually works.  We are in the process of re-addressing ALL our DHCP scopes (joys of a buy-out) and using the steps outlined in numerous MS articles and Blogs etc... we should
be able to use "Netsh dhcp server scope 192.168.1.0 dump > scope1.cfg"  then modify the cfg file with the new scope address (i.e. change all 192.168.1. to lets say 10.10.5.).  Then use netsh exec scope1.cfg (yes, the file modified) to
create the new scope which would contain all the "stuff" the current scope has (reservations, options, etc).
Well, all we get is the response "The following command was not found:   |".
    Environment is as follows:
    Account is a domain admin
working on a RDP session on the DHCP server
Server is Windows 2008 R2 (current functioning DHCP server)
    Using administrative CMD (elevated)
have tried changing context into Netsh | DHCP | Server and default CMD - all "no go"
    supporting link from MS: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772372(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_1
There's a lot of discussions around this, but I haven't seen any response that says how to actually do it.  export/import won't work for us since we have to update the scope info.  With almost 100 scopes to update, we really need this functionality!
    (or similar method)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

OK...  It seems the issue is with the dump file.  I actually got exec to run once with a dump file which wasn't modified.  The stupid part is it only ran one time, I could not duplicate it.   Since
I've beat this thing to death and no one could offer any assistance (Hello MS?), I'm not wasting any more time on it.   Luckily, I was able to figure out an alternate method.
Looking at the dump file I realized all the lines are just a straight NetSh commands, which means all I needed to do is grab the lines and preface them with NetSh.  Like this...
    for /f "tokens=*" %a in ('type scope.cfg ^| find /i "dhcp"') do NetSh %a
where scope.cfg is your dump file.   This runs perfect and seems to be the exact thing that exec should be doing.  I did flip the "SET STATE 1" to "0" so the scope was deactivated  (Don't forget to run it in an elevated
    prompt).
Hope this helps someone else so they aren't spending days for nothing!

  • Cisco WLC 5508 not sending SNMP Traps

    Hello Everyone.
I'm having a weird error on our WLC environment. We have an HA with two cisco WLC 5508 and i cannot get SNMP Traps working on a Windows PC running Kiwi Syslog server (free ed.).
I can receive correctly Syslog messages, but not traps.
I Tried also to send SNMP Traps from WLC to a different PC using Linux with snmptrapd and it works fine.
I tried then to send from my Linux box a snmp trap to my Windows PC, and it works fine, but i still cannot receive anything from WLC.
Using Wireshark to detect traffic, i cannot see any packet on udp port 162.
I cannot figure out any problem with my scenario, but i can see the following errors on syslog:
*rmgrTrasport: Mar 30 16:08:22.602: #RMGR-3-INVALID_PING_RESPONSE: rmgr_utils.c:270 Ping response from <my_windows_PC> is invalid. Ip address do not match.
    My WLC Version is 7.6.130.0
    Thank you for your support.

  • Wlc 5508 not responing even in console

    Hi everyone,
We have a Cisco wlc 5508 (with 50 LAP) running perfectly until yesterday when the wlc suddently stopped working completly.
When we reboot the wlc, only ps1/ps2 led are on (alm led is off).
We tried to reset the wlc but the wlc is unreachable even with the console port or with the usb.
I would appreciate any kind of help on this.
    Thanks in advance.

No unfortunately not. But i have not had a single 5508 or 2504 that has been stable on 8.0.x (except for the ones i use i my lab).
I think it has something to do with webauth being enabled, but Im not quite sure.
It seems that under load (and this does not involve a lot of clients 100+), the WLCs starts to reboot constantly (2 to 4 hours between reboots). And then after a couple of days of this then the WLCs just die completely.
Some of my other colleagues (from other partners) have experienced the same problems.
The only bugID i have found with a description matching my problem (reboots, not controller dying completely) is : CSCus36055
My WLC looks like this when it is not responding to anything : https://www.dropbox.com/s/p1scxlcibl2kjkc/5508-NoBoot-NothingInConsole.mp4?dl=0

  • Home Sharing: Multiple Users on 1 Mac do not show up unless logged in

I've set up home sharing on 4 Macs successfully, however one Mac has 3 users. Since they are all not logged in at the same time, all of their itunes libraries do not show up, only the one for the user who is logged in at that time. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Also, how do I get new purchases to automatically download to all the shared libraries? I can't seem to locate that.

    Doesn't work - ask Apple.
Sorry, but at the moment I have no good feelings for them. User friendly multi-user environments don't seem to very popular at Apple.

  • 3000 series and Multiple DHCP scopes (DHCP-relay)

I need to send different DHCP options to users; however, I need to put certain groups in different subnets. Is it possible to setup the concentrator to relay for addresses from different scopes?

    - Configuration
    - System
    - IP Routing
    - DHCP Relay
    a. Enable 'Enabled' checkbox
    b. Select Forward to
    c. Address == 192.168.10.8 255.255.255.0
    - Address Management
    - Assignment
    a. Enable 'Use DHCP'
    - User Management
    - Groups
    - Select 'groupA'
    - Modify Group
    - Click General tab
    - Enter 'DHCP Network Scope' x.x.x.x
    - Select 'groupA'
    - Remove Address Pool
Now I get the following error:
    118 02/08/2005 13:29:00.720 SEV=3 DHCPDBG/39 RPT=34
DHCP discover timeout: no response from polled servers (xid 3821297335)
I can ping the server, and it is serving up this scope to other devices (just not from the concentrator)

  • WLC 5508 not communicating with ACS 4.2

    Hi,
Strange one here, I have setup a WLAN with PEAP user authentication through ACS to the Windows database. My clients cannot connect to the WLAN.
From the logs, I can see no activity on the Radius server stats (as seen from the controller) and no failed login attempts on the ACS itself. The ACS/Radius is setup correctly on the controller and the controller can ping the ACS, but they just don't seem to be talking???
I have used this setup before, but the only difference is that the controller is a 5508 (done this with 4400's in the past) and the ACS is running on VMWare (Never done this before).
If I change the security to WPA2 PSK it works fine.
I want to use PEAP for user authentication. NOT Machine auth. I have a certificate installed on the ACS and it is in the trust list of the client PC.
    Any help appreciated!

  • WLC 5508 , AP client dhcp address different from WLAN interface VLAN subnet?

Hope the title makes sense, here's my situation: I have multiple businesses on 1 WLC 5508, there's a LAG to my core switch with seperate interfaces for each, broken up by vlans.
My question is: if i have a WLAN setup to use interface "Company A" which is vlan 10 with an ip of 10.0.1.5 which then points to 10.0.1.10 for dhcp.
Can the WLAN client connecting to the Company A WLAN use an IP in a different IP range?(192.168.1.10?) can the wlc route? from the perspective of the DHCP server where doers the request come from? (10.0.1.5?)
Can the DHCP server 10.0.10.10 on vlan 10 respond back with and ip on a different subnet to assign to the client to use and still be fully fonctioning? would the default gateway for the client need to be 10.0.1.5?  So the clients ip would be 192.168.1.10 /24 with a gateway of 10.0.1.5 (ip adress fo vlan10 interface on WLC) And if multiple clients on the same subnet wanted to talk to each other woudl the WLC know how to route them to each other without passing through the default gateway?
Sorry if this is confusing I'm having a bit of a hard time explaining it in works, i can try and draw somethign up if it makes more sense.
    thanks
    Eric

I think if you want these clients to stick to a WLAN configured on a VLAN that has a different IP addressing you could configure your VLAN with the normal IP addressing then add on the SVI the 2nd IP_Class_default_gateway.
    E.G.
    Vlan 10
    interface vlan 10
    ip address 10.0.10.1 255.255.255.0
    ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 secondary
Clients that receive IP address from 192.168.1.0/24 network will be able to reach 192.168.1.1 and all traffic will pass right.

  • WLC 5508 with 6.0.188 -- ap-manager interface..

6.0.188 code on new 5508 WLC does not show ap-manager interface.
6.0.188 code on 4404 wlc does have ap-manager interface.
    Both are working fine.
    Why is that?

The 5500 controllers use the management interface to function as both the management interface and ap-manager.  There will not be an ap-manager in the 5500.

  • Another Images not Showing up thread

I know there are multiple threads out there about images not showing up on the login page of application express, and I have browsed most of them without success.
    My images folder is in:
    C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\db_1\Apache\Apache\images\
    My dads.conf file has specified:
    Alias /i/ "C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\db_1\Apache\Apache\images\"
Address of missing image in I.E. is:
    http://<host>:7777/i/htmldb/apex_logo.gif
When I ran @apexins I specified /i/ for the virtual images directory.
I am running Oracle Database 10gR2, with Oracle HTTP Server that came with the Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2.
    I am using APEX 3.2.
When I try to go to
    http://<host>:7777/i/
    I get:
You don't have permission to access /i/ on this server.
I also cannot login to APEX. When I type my username/password and click the Login button, it does nothing (nothing loads, nothing changes... nothing happens). I don't know if this is related?
    Thank you,
    ~Tom

    I found the problem -
In my dads.conf file I had:
    Alias /i/ "C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\db_1\Apache\Apache\images\"
    When I really needed:
    Alias /i/ "C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\db_1\Apache\Apache\images/"
Note the end slash after images changed from backslash to forward.
    Silly me.

  • Photoshop action not showing?

Just started messing around with Photoshop actions today. I downloaded some and imported them fine. I just found some more that I liked, went to import them but they are not showing under the actions folder. I have tried restarting Photoshop multiple times and they are still not showing. When I go to import the files again, a pop-up says asks if I want to overwrite the folder with that name already (so I know that they are importing correctly). Also, I have the ability to export them but I still cannot find them in the actions window. Any suggestions?

Action set files *.atn files can be loaded and saved  from and to any folder. And they can be loaded by simply dropping the file onto Photoshop.  Each version of Photoshop has it own set of Preferences files. One preference file names is "Actions Palette.psp" This files is where Photoshop stores you loaded and edited actions.  Should your Photoshop preferences be reset you need to  load  your actions again for the file will be replaces with Adobe default file. So it you edit or record actions be sure you remember  to save the Action sets so you don't loose them should you have to reset your Photoshop Preferences.

  • WLC 5508 and Multiple DHCP servers in different sites?

    Hi
I work for health authority in our region and we just purchased a Cisco wlc 5508 controller along with 25 3500 AP's. We have multiple sites with different IP subnets in each, all connected by a frame relay (owned by ISP). Each site has its own DHCP server. I have the controller in our main site. So when I take an AP to a remote site, the Ap gets an DHCP address from local DHCP server (which is great) and contacts controller and joins controller. Everything is good. BUT, when a client joins at the remote site, it gets an address from a previous site which will not work because the client is now on a different subnet. We dont use Vlans as they dont transvers the frame relay. I need those clients to obtain DHCP from the local DHCP server from the site they are on. Is that possible??
I have updated the controller to latest version as well.
    Thanks
