Multiple disk not showing up-help
I have a wd 2tb external hard drive and a seagate 1tb external hard drive,
- both os journaled formatted
- both have an independent power supply
- both show up when independently plugged into my mackbook pro and airport extreme
I have a self powered usb hub and when both hard drives are connected to it and the hub connected to my my mbp both drives show up.
However when I connect both drives to the hub and attach the hub to the airport extreme only one drive shows up. only once for a short while did both drives show. Both drives led lights are lit but only one drive shows. I even plugged in a third usb powered drive which showed up immediately with the other drive. It just wont show the 2 self powered drives at the same time.
disk file sharing is enabled
share disk over wan is enabled
secure shared disks with device password... no pass set
i dont know whats wrong
I don't know what is wrong, and cannot explain why the hub would work one place but not another......but suspect that a direct connection to a computer and a network connection are not one in the same.
But I do know that I had the same issue with a WD drive and a Lacie drive and a new USB powered hub solved it.
I used a 4-port Dynex powered hub from Best Buy.
Might be worth a try if the store will let you return the hub if it doesn't help.

Disk Unmount Using Terminal -
I have a used iPod Classic 120GB. I bought it off my friend. I took it home and added my files (about 5,000 songs and 13 videos) to his stuff (about 6,000 songs) and ended up with it being about half full. I let it sync, then ejected and disconnected. But it said there was nothing on it. I went back and reconnected it to my iTunes. The iTunes froze, and I couldnt access the iPod in anyway. I disconnected it, and when I did it unfroze everything, and popped up in iTunes, saying that the iPod was missing.
I checked the iPod's "About" section and it said that it had 56GB of "Other". I took it back to my friend and he said he deleted the folder with everything in it. It is empty now except for 1.2 GB of who knows what, but still freezing my system and not showing up.
I have tried restarting it, and putting it into disk mode. Nothing worked.
HELP

HI, i am having the same issue with my ipod. Can you please tell me what you mean by putting on "disk mode" and deleting the files? Thanks
First let's make sure the drive is physically OK...
*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
Retracts: 889
Reallocs: 12
Pending Sectors: 0
PowerOn Hours: 2202
Start/Stops: 894
Temp: Current 24c
Temp: Min 10c
Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
*Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
*Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.
<hr>
Assuming you've ruled out a physical problem with the iPod's drive we can now move on to check for logical problems...
*Check iPod hard-drive for errors*
Hold Select+Menu on the iPod for about 6 seconds until it resets, then hold Select+Play as soon as the Apple logo appears, again for about 6 seconds to put the machine in disk mode. Open iTunes and in the Sync tab of the preferences menu check *Disable automatic syncing of all iPhones & iPods*. Now connect your iPod to the computer, wait until it connects, then close iTunes. Browse *My Computer* and right-click on the drive for the iPod, click Properties, then click Tools. Under Error-checking, click *Check Now*. Under Check disk options, select *Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors* (Optional - takes ages but a good idea if you've reason to suspect physical damage). Click Start. Mac users should run *Disk Utility / Repair Disk* for the equivalent process. This should find and correct any errors in the logical & physical structures of your iPod's hard drive. Once these have been fixed you can reset the iPod (hold Menu+Select ) and should stand a better chance of a successful restore. It might also pay to check the status of the source drive containing your media, particularly if no errors were found on the iPod.
And if that still doesn't help try Erase your iPod - The Super Fix for most iPod Problems. Basically a low level format of the iPod’s hard drive to get around whatever problems are stopping iTunes from restoring it.
Once you've restored your iPod don't rush to dump all the data back exactly as it was before. I have found that lots of large or complex smart playlists can sometimes trigger constant reboots or dumping of the iPod's library. In addition, larger transfers can fail leaving data in an inconsistent state. Try this technique for populating the iPod in stages.
*Break up large transfers*
In iTunes select the menu item *File... New Smart Playlist*. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music. Tick against *Limit to*, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule ( *File... Edit playlist* ) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.

External Hard Disk not showing up on Finder
Hi
My HP Pocket Media Drive (USB), when plugged into my MacBook, does not show up on the Finder, even though it shows up on System Profiler. It only shows up on Disk Utility in certain occasions (such as after shutting down and starting up again). I have checked my Finder preferences, that external hard drives are shown on desktop.
I have tried resetting my PRAM and SMC too, but I still can't access the hard disk.
Any help will be appreciated.Ian Sen wrote:
I get the following message in a window:
“connecting to server: resolving alias to… (my itunes folder on the external disk).”
On the chance that your Mac has a phantom folder in its Volumes folder, with that external drive not mounted, invoke the Finder menu option Go > Go to Folder. Enter "/Volumes" (without the quotes) in the field and click "Go". In the resulting window if you see anything with a name that resembles your external drive, trash it.
Anyone know how I can have the external hard disk automatically mount onto my desktop (and thereby bypass the need for several click-thru’s via the finder window)?
Once you're able to mount that external drive, open the Accounts panel of System Preferences and click on the lock in the corner to authenticate if needed. Select your account on the left, then the "Login Items" tab. Drag the mounted disk icon into the window then close System Preferences. That disk should now mount when you log in. A Finder window will open, but you can close that manually. If that bothers you sufficiently, if you search these discussion groups you may be able to find threads that discuss how to work around that. -
TM Disk not showing up in Migration Assistant
Hey guys,
So I have a 1 Tb Lacie harddrive that has 3 partitions. 1 small one for windows transfers, 1 mac formatted disk and 1 dedicated to Time Machine.
I back up everything except the Movies and Downloads folders.
I have a new imac at my disposal and wanted to use Migration Assistant to transfer everything from my macbook using the Time Machine backup. I attach the drive to the imac, all 3 partitions mount. I start up MA but when selecting which drive to use the backup from I can't selected any of the attached drives as they do not show up as options. All I see is the HD of the iMac itself (with 0 Kbs size).
I tried repairing the disk but that didn't help. What could be the problem? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all,
RobAFAIK, you can only do that on the new machine's first boot. Boot with the install disc that came with the iMac, erase it's HD with Disk Utility, and then restore the machine. Details are described by launching the Installation Instructions.app inside the installer's Installation folder. Then, hook up the ext HD, and on first boot, restore from the TM backup.

Airport Disk not showing after update
Hello,
I have an Airport Extreme with a USB HD attached and the system was working perfectly. I added an Airport Express to the network (I wanted airtunes on the HIFI) set it up with the same password and name as the Airport Extreme to extend the wifi, both are on an ethernet network via a gigabyte switch and internet modem/router. During the process Airport Utilities was updated from 5.3.1 to 5.3.2 via Software update. The extreme was moved also to a new spot in the house.
The problem now, the Airport disk connected to the extreme doesn't show up anywhere. It doesn't mount and Airport Utilities doesn't even see the HD connected to the extreme. I can see both airport base stations in the Airport Utilities.
I've changed cables, tried different settings, I can't find my lost HD. I don't know how to fix the problem.
Can someone help me out, please.
marc.thanks for trying to help, but I'd done that already, but I tried it again anyway, you know, just incase, but the drive is still not showing up on the Airport.
I did notice though that the drive is formatted with a GUID Partition Table, would that be the problem since I'm still on a G4, not an Intel????? -
Mac Pro 4,1 w/RAID startup disk not showing
Just purchased used a 2009 Mac Pro which came without installation disks. The startup (and only) HD does not show on the desktop. I discovered that an Apple RAID card was installed and had one disk (the startup disk) connected to it. Apparently the startup disk had been part of a RAID from which all other disks had been removed. Can I simply remove the startup disk from the RAID and install it as a regular drive? Since I don't have the installation disks I don't want to experiment with it until I make a clone. As of now there is only the single drive installed in the system. The system seems to be fine as reported by Tech Tool Pro test suite, which indicated no problems with any component.
The battery on the RAID card needs charging but after several hours did not seem to be going anywhere. Can the battery be replaced?
Thanks in advance for any help.Do either of you guys have an idea as to why the startup HD does not appear on the desktop? The battery no is indicating fully charged in RAID Utility but it's still conditioning, so I strongly suspect It needs replacement. Still, I'd like to solve this before pulling the card since I'm unfamiliar with the Mac Pro and if I can get things functioning nominally through menu operations so much the better.
There seems to be an anomaly in the RAID Utility setup since no "RAID SETS" nor "VOLUMES" are listed, but there is an HD icon labeled "Bay1" listed under "DRIVES" with State=JBOD, SMART=verified, Status=Good, Interface=SATA. It's a Western Digital Caviar. The RAID Utility help says that only a single drive can be RAID mode JBOD, but if this drive's status is JBOD doesn't that imply that a JBOD RAID set had to have been created before adding the drive to the set and thereby giving it JBOD status? IF this is so then the RAID set must have been intentioally deleted, or perhaps was auto deleted when other drives were pulled. I'm thinking that the drive does not show on the desktop because it still has status JBOD but it's RAID set is gone. Possible? If so, can I create a new JBOD RAID set and assign the drive to it without loosing the OS on the drive? Can I install a new drive without assigning it to a RAID set and then reinstall after pulling the card or will things get messed up if a disk that was once on the RAID card is reinstalled after the card is pulled?
Thanks for any insights. -
Hard Disk Not Exist! help pls!
Hi techies,
I was using my hp compaq when I froze. I did powered it off and restarted only to be confronted with "hard disk not exist". I tried to run diagnostics on the hard disk as directed by the functions buttons and it kept say stuff, "install operating system for hard disk". I've met a guy who knows stuff about such n he says my hd is fried and I'll have to get a new one. I'm kind of surprised as the laptop is barely a year old. He took out the hard drive and put in an external drive enclosure and on connecting to another computer, he couldn't get a read on the hard drive.
My questions are;
- is it possible for me to retrieve all my files from my hard disk? It'll be like going back to the stone age to try to start afresh. If it is, how? If not all, what kind of files can I retrieve and how?
- what is the cause of this damage to my hard drive because my system gave me no warning.
Pls, reply asap.
Thanks guys.Your friend did the pretty much standard procedure to see if any files can be read and retrieved from the failed hdd. There are data recovery companies out there but they aren't cheap. It is always advisable to have an external usb hdd for backup.
All hdds fail after time ,though laptop hdds seem to have a higher/faster failure rate due to the confined case and extra heat. SATA hdds seem to die much faster than the older Ide type drives in laptops and desktops from what I have seen.
Not uncommon to see posts about a laptop hdd dying after 1-1 1/2 years, though I have been fortunate with mine which is 3 yrs old. I do use a laptop cooling pad under mine which may contribute to it's longer life.
******Clicking the Thumbs-Up button is a way to say -Thanks!.******

Time Machine disk not showing up in Migration Assistant
I have backed up my Snow Leopard with Time Machine and I'm trying to import my stuff into Lion using Migration Assistant. However, my Time Machine disk is not showing up in Migration Assistant even though it's connected and shows in Finder. Any idea why?
I couldn't migrate from Snow Leopard drive either -- Snow Leopard used PGP encyption, migration copied the files, but they seem inaccessible to Lion with "permission denied" errors.
It sounds like you did migrate successfully. It's normal for the permissions to be wrong -- Migration Assistant creates a new account with the files from the old one.
What I would do in your place is start over. First, decrypt the SL volume and uninstall PGP. You should do that anyway, because PGP is a turkey and not needed in Lion. Erase the Lion volume (assuming you have no data on it that isn't already on your SL volume), reinstall Lion, and then use Setup Assistant, not Migration Assistant, to do the migration. -
Shared disk not showing up in Finder
I'm sharing a disk drive on a Mac Mini. I can see it listed and access it on from one laptop, but it's no longer visible from my MacBook Pro. It was there yesterday, but I went on standby with it still connected, and there were messages about it being improperly dismounted, and now I can no longer see it. I've rebooted the Mac Mini and the MacBook Pro, but it just does not show up. Any ideas?
Not sure what has changed but I just noticed it is now showing my PC on both the iMac and Macbook. I just finished installing Ubuntu on a separate partition and when I booted back into Vista it worked...maybe it got scared I was gonna stay in Ubuntu

Extention Manager CS5 not showing up - help
Extension Manager CS5 not showing up. I see the extension manager name and pull-down menu in the finder upper menu, but the app interface disappeared. When I quit, it crashes.

Creating new track - software catalog new product not showing up - Help!!!
Hi,
Creating a new track for custom development.
A new product has been added in the software catalog in SLD.
SLD and NWDI (netweaver 04) are on the same system.
The new product is not showing up when trying to select in the new track, Software Components for Development section. Why??
Does the server need to be restarted after adding a new product? This is difficult for us as SLD has production systems tied to it!!!
Thanks in advance

Albums not showing up - help!
Some of my songs were deleted from my iTunes Library so I reinstalled them and put them onto my iPod Touch 5th Generation running iOS 7.0.3 and they did not show up in the "Albums" list. They are only showing up in the "Artists" list but I want them to show up in the "Albums" list so that I can play them all as one.
Also, one of my albums is showing up as two different albums even though I installed it at the same time and the album is not a compilation.
Is there any way to fix these problems?
Many thanks in advanceDoes the songs you installed say they have an album title? Mine didn't have album titles so they never showed up till I added a title.
For the 2 album problems, have you tried retyping the album and artist names in again? They tend to be confused in apple and will be 2 until you retype them again.

About three weeks ago, I was sitting in class, got bored, and decided that I'd try and see what would happen if I locked my Macbook Pro (17-inch 2.66 GHz on 10.8.2, early 2009) from Find My iPhone. I'm concerned because my Mac has never locked, despi
