Multiple displays, great. single display tricky in Mavericks.

I bought a new external display to work on a MacBook Air through Thunderbolt but when I close the lid of the MBA the display goes black / sleeps. I've reset the SMC and it worked until shut down, and upon restart was back to going black. I can get it to work with the MBA open and use multiple displays but this is not what I want to achieve or have the desk space for.
Does anyone else have the same issue or even have a solution?
I'd be interested to hear anything.

for a Mid 2010 model, you’ll need to use something like the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital Mac Edition multi-display adapter with a DVI-to-HDMI adapter to connect your current display. If your current display or your second display has a DVI input port, then no additional adapter would be needed.

Screen Sharing: Dual Display to Single Display, Goes Blank

Hi everyone,
I have an issue seeing dual displays properly on another computer with the Apple Screen Sharing app.
From one computer, with Mac OS X 10.5.8 installed, I'm connecting my other computer elsewhere, which is running 10.6.3. I'm connecting by setting up an SSH tunnel, forwarding the VNC ports, if that's relevant.
The computer I'm connecting to is a Mac mini (early 2009), with dual displays. When I connect initially, I can see both displays. Which is fine, but they're a little small. When I try to select one display only (through the View menu), the screen is black. There's still a cursor, but it's hovering around in black space.
Can anyone help with what might be causing this? I'd be happy to provide more details of connections/hardware if that would be useful.

OLCS3 Field Monitors display black video in single display

I am using OL CS3 on WinXPSP2 with Canon HV20 camcorder on FireWire to my Lenovo T60 laptop, and had some success in getting clips recorded yesterday. However, no luck today. The Field Monitors do not show the live video feed, but remain black.
I rebooted my laptop, plugged in FireWire port (in an Adaptec PCMCIA card), started OL, and turned on HV20 camcorder. In OL, the Canon HV20 is listed in the Devices list, and selecting it causes Field Monitor to display text label "canon hv20 camcorder". The Field Monitor(s) still show black video...while the camcorder display shows the live image.
My laptop has only the integrated LCD panel display in use (as at boot time), the video adapter is ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 which does support dual displays. I used ATI Catalyst sw to check the video settings, which indicate there is only one display in use, it is not running clone mode or extended desktop, and the video overlay is set to show in Standard Dual Mode (which indicates video would show on both Main display and Secondary displays in original source video aspect if two displays were in use).
I read the Adobe knowledge base kb402180 "Field monitor does not display video when used on a computer with dual monitors (OnLocation CS3)" but it does not seem to solve my problem.
I can use Premier Pro CS3 to capture video I recorded to tape on the HV20 using the same hw setup. So it seems the FireWire link is okay, the camera can push a video stream on it, and so I remain suspicious of the video overlay settings. Only other thing is maybe the camera is not pushing live video stream to the FireWire cable? I'll check on that.
Anyone have any help?

As it turns out, I ran a parallel request into the Adobe support forum, and Erik H got me the answer to this problem yesterday....I found that deleting the appProps.xml file in C:\Documents and Settings\(your user folder)\Local Settings\Application
Data\Adobe\OnLocation CS3 solved my problem.
MY GUESS
I use my laptop with dual external displays most of the time, but while trying to record with On Location I only use the integrated LCD panel while in the studio. I am guessing that OL gets confused if I happen to run it in both of these hardware configurations....the appProps.xml could get written with dual displays in my office and then OL might expect them even though the current hw config is a single panel while in the studio.

T420 Dual Display Temp Switch to Single Display then Back

T420, no docking station, with external monitor connected to VGA port. Windows 8.1 64-bit. Display driver up-to-date, Windows 8.1 up-to-date. Lenovo Syetm Update run and everything is up-to-date. So occasionally it switches back to single display (laptop screen) then immediately switches back to dual display. Seems to do this randonly without warning. I don't see any obvious issues, event log does not show any problems when the issue occurs. I did reinstall the display driver but that did not help. This is more of an annoyance then anything else. I just stop what I am doing and wait for it to switch back to dual display, as I use the external monitor as my primary desktop.

Same problem here. Brand new 2011 MacBookPro 17" and the 27" Cinema Display with the display port. The display goes black for about .5 secs, then comes back on. It is sporadic but happens multiple (30) times per hour.
The display worked fine with my old MBP 2010 with display port, so obviously this is a Thunderbolt issue.

If the monitor can be detected your Displays preferences should show it in its Arrangement panel. You may have to play around with your Display panel to get the desired resolution. And also may have to click detect displays and gather windows to see both sets of preferences on your main screen.

So i have an apple tv, iphone, and a mac pro. i know how to figure out to play the video on tv using my phone. but on my laptop it's saying the there's only single display and that i need a second display.

If your Mac is new enough, you can use AirPlay to display your Mac screen via your AppleTV. If you have an older Mac, you can get AirPariot that will provide the functionality.
Depending on your Mac, it should have the ability to connect an external monitor. It will most likely have either a DVI, mini-DVI, or mini-DisplayPort connector. Once you know the kind of graphics port on your Mac, you can get an adaptor and cable that will allow you to connect to an external monitor or digital TV. For example, I use a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor when I connect to my digital TV. I use a mini-DisplayPort to DVI cable when connecting to an external 24" monitor.

Only "single display" possible

i have a problem with my gf4 mx440!
everything runs fine on my old pIII800 but i cant clone my desktop to my tv! i alway got to change my primary monitor to watch films on it.the only option i have is "single display" under nview! i already changed my drivers and tested version 61.77,66,93 and 67.02 (guru3d.com) but no change....
any suggestions? i want to clone my monitor and my tv!!!

Uhm i've a similar problem but ......
I've a Msi Gforce 6800GT 256Mb. Till 1 week ago i had tvout connected to my tv and Dsub connected to my analog monitor . All was working right, Clone mode or dual view were working perfectly and i could see films on tv and playing a game on monitor. At the same time.
Then after formatting everything changed.
1° - The dual view mode is no more avaiable
2° - If i try to set the clone mode, it set the new mode, and start the usual 15 sec countdown to revert the setting if anything went wrong but .... it revert to single display mode if i press "yes" or if i press "no" or if i wait the 15 sec timer.
3° - Underd the troubleshooting window the "my connected tv is not being detected" check is disabled .
4° - If i set single display mode on tv, it work but ..... all settings for tvout output like composite or s-video are absent :-/ just empty cascade menu. The video on tv is show correctly ... well just b/w but i know how to solve it.
Before the format i was using nvidia 66.93, and after it i tryed both 66.93 and 61.77. I'm using Wxp pro with sp1a and all security updates. About the virus, don't worry, completely deleted and re-downloaded all drivers.
Reading previous posts i'm going to try the driver cleaner 3 but don't think can solve my problem.
Any hint for this situation is wellcome :D

I have created a list view with a single line i.e. (ID, Name, Dept = 1, "Joe Bloggs", "Finance")
Is there anyway that I can display the Name "Joe Bloggs" on a site page full of narrative?
i.e. The only member of the Finance team in this list is Joe Bloggs.
Is there a PowerShell command that will return the column data?

In a loop, draw a line with very small difference in x1 and x2 (just a few pixels) so it looks like a dot. Or you can use a dot image and g.drawImage(..). You can also try g.fillOval(..) or fillArc(..)

Since there were no answers, I will take a stab at a reponse. For the 2nd method, I suspect you could simply select the print or press job options to get the desired results or turn off "use local fonts" in Acrobat. If you check the font list, the fonts are probably not embedded and that is likely the problem.
I noticed that you have both Reader and Acrobat installed and that might cause some conflict, but should not be the issue here. If you were to uninstall Reader, you would have to repair Acrobat. The conflict here is that you might have problems with the one opening when you want the other. If it works for you, then don't worry about it.
For technique 1, I suspect you may be using IE 9 that has apparently been a problem since it came out. I have refused to install it. However, it may simply be that PDF Maker does not work correctly with your browser, or got deactivated and needs to be allowed to run in your browser (IE I am assuming).

For reasons that you would have to ask Apple for they decided not to allow the precise position of the playhead to be shown in iMovie 10 (unlike in FCP 10.1.x).

Help : Safari displays every single website page completely white !

Hello everyone,
So I have this problem on my mid-2012 Macbook Air, whenever I try to use Safari, my favorite internet browser, it displays every single website completely white ... I don't know what to do, my internet connection is fine and all my other browsers are working perfectly. Anyone has any idea how to fix this ?

Your profile indicates your Mac has v10.8.2 installed. If that is the case, then updating your system software help Safari.
Click Software Update from your Apple  drop down menu. Restart your Mac after updates are installed then try Safari.
If your Mac software is up to date, v10.8.5., try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plug-ins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, try this DNS server.
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
Click + and type:
208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
208.67.220.220
Click OK.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

What's the best way to display a single record in Apex? I need it to be display only (read only). A form or report region doesn't seem to do it.
So for example something like:

Address: 23 Anystreet, Anytown
etc.
