Multiple Duplicate Message Problem

Each time I check my email, I appear to be downloading all my messages off my mail server as if they have not already been dlowloaded in the past, This means that I am getting multiple and incerasing numbers of duplicate email messages in my inbox. It has just started happening - is this a virus perhaps? Has anyone else had this happen to them??
I am using mailk with btinternet (POP) - I have checked my server and only one copy exists there - it is as if the application seems to have lost the ability to tell the server that it already has specific messages...
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I read in another post (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=519926&tstart=30) that this is a problem with bt. On their broadband service status page there is the following entry:
13 June 2006 01:54 PM
Problem downloading multiple mail messages
We are currently investigating a problem which may mean some customer are downloading multiple copies of messages from the server using a mail client. Please bear with us as we endeavour to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. Meanwhile we apologise for any inconvenience.
So it looks like we will have to wait for bt to sort it out.

  • Friends are receiving multiple duplicate messages

    After switching to Verizon from AT&T, my friends are reporting that when I send a text message, they will receive the same message two to four times in a row.  Sometimes a message will continue to repeat itself after x minutes.
    I know it is not the phone because I first had a Droid Razr and then switched to the HTC Trophy.  The problem occurs on both phone.
    I just got the Trophy today and straight out of the box, after activation my friends reported receiving multiple messages again.
    I'm using the native text messaging app and have powered the phone off several times.  But again, since it happened with the Droid, it doesn't seem like it would be a phone issue.
    Any thoughts of this would be great.

    Hi SonorousGiraffe & NATRAPS!
    I see how the duplicate text message problem can become aggravating.  I would like to assist with resolving.
    First, thanks to Ann154 for the great feedback & suggestion!
    There may be some resetting on the account we would need to do in order to resolve the duplicate text message issue.  If you are still experiencing this, please reach out to me directly so I can further assist.

  • More Duplicate Message Woes

    So sad Apple can't appreciate this particular difficulty of using their machines. Leaving this functionality of removing duplicates to independent providers or freeware. Seems like an obvious need, why not build it in? It obviously wasted countless hours of many people who report the problem.
    I'm a good customer, bought 3 machines last year... I wish they would warn buyers about the troubles they are buying...
    Forget migrating-- that just moves all the old machine problems to a new machine. Yes Tiger eventually gets corrupted with DSL usage. So clean installs take a week of lost time. Besides, migrating from a dual to a powerbook has other issues.
    Manually moving large mail accumilations creates duplicate message problems.
    Forget large mail boxes-- You must hand sort things into small boxes as if that is fun. Why should a software care if a mailbox is large? Just because some people like small boxes?
    Apple-- Please remeber we want to avoid wasting so much time.

    All email clients have limits and most use a single large database to store all data.
    The recommended size limit for Jaguar or Panther mailbox is 1GB and 2GB for a Tiger mailbox.
    To put this in perspective, Entourage uses a single large database to store all data and the database size limit for Entourage X is 4GB. The recommended size limit for a single Tiger mailbox is 50% of the database size limit for Entourage X. The database size limit was increased with Entourage 2004 but there is a limit.
    Before upgrading to Tiger, I didn't allow any mailbox to exceed 500MB or so in size and used the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis - once a month or so depending on activity and I never experienced an "overstuffed" mailbox issue or any issues.
    I prefer creating and utilizing "On My Mac" mailboxes to sort received and sent messages by category that I need or want to save instead of using an account's Inbox and Sent mailbox as the final storage location for all received and sent messages not deleted.
    I agree that no mailbox size limit would be preferable but 2GB is huge IMO and as previously provided, all email clients have limits.

  • Duplicate messages in sender mail adapter

    Hi,
    We are using the sender mail adapter to retrieve messages from an IMAP mail server. Messages are being picked up correctly, but when we have large messages (with e.g. PDF attachments) things go wrong.
    The time it takes to retrieve the mail message is longer than the poll time. In this case the adapter logs in again in the mail server to retrieve the first new message from the inbox. However the first adapter threat is already retrieving that message. This results in a duplicate message in XI. (messages are set to be deleted when read).
    We have tried all kind of settings in the adapter but without any results. The adapter works fine with very small messages.
    Does anyone recognize this problem?
    PS. please do not post links to sap help or the mail adapter FAQ. Useful answers will be rewarded.
    Thanks,
    Christiaan Schaake

    Hi Christiaan !
    I understand your problem. Could you set your IMAP account to avoid multiple simultaneous sessions?? maybe if there is only one session allowed per user or per time, then parallel XI threads will not be able to start downloading the messages.
    If you cannot use a longer poll interval, then you could develop an adapter module for the Mail sender adapter that could be used to verify if the current mail is just being downloaded by other thread. This adapter module could check the unique mail data (date/time + subject + etc.) against a local table.

    Matias.

  • How Do I Get Rid Of Multiple Duplicates AND Relocate Numerous Files?

    Basically I'm fed up of iTunes.
    A couple of months ago, i had a problem with my itunes library due to a message regarding the iCloud. This practically deleted my whole iTunes library and forced me to relocate every single track, which took a lot longer than it needed to.
    I was already annoyed with iTunes by this point, until yesterday around 1/3 of my tracks were still unlocated, however I could cope with this because I had the majority of my songs, despite this not being ideal.
    Yesterday I was informed I needed to update my iPod, naturally I did. Then...this is when I start to get mad, my iPod crashed, then restored itself COMPLETELY back to factory settings, removing my songs and all my apps. I reopen my iTunes library to see that, that has also restored and NONE of my music is there.
    Now, after a bit of fiddling, I have an iTunes library full of songs which have been duplicated twice or even three times, to add to it, hardly any are actually located. It's not just as simple as redownloading from iTunes, because I expect half my library is music from CDs. So now not only am I faced with trying to get rid of all the duplicates, I also have to locate all the songs (I have checked the preferences and redirected it to My Music > iTunes - basically what it should be) and I have to get rid of all the songs that I didn't want in the first place such as old songs that should be long gone off my iPod/Library from now.
    If anyone could help, that would be great, because I'm so tired this time-consuming mess my iTunes has become.
    Thanks in advance!

    Broken Links
    It depends a bit on why things aren't where iTunes expects to find them but if they are in sensible Artist & Album folders in some common location then my FindTracks script should be able to reconnect them to iTunes. FindTracks uses some fuzzy matching routines and searches for multiple potential locations within a media folder. For more details see this thread.
    Duplicates
    Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
    Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
    Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
    (If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)
    I intend at some point to improve DeDuper so that when there are multiple duplicates, where at least one is connected to a file while others are missing, it can throw away the entries to any missing files, however the current version needs all duplicates to have been repaired first.

  • TS3276 Why am I receiving multiple duplicate emails and how do I stop this from happening

    Why am I receiving multiple duplicate emails after the initial message comes in, it keeps duplicating them. How do I fix this problem?

    For the mailbox where you are receiving duplicates ...
    Select the mailbox on the left of the Mail window.
    From the Mail menu bar top of your screen click Mailbox > Rebuild
    See if that helps the duplication issue.

  • Duplicate messages in search results (when using Smart Mailboxes, etc)

    I've recently started using Search Folders more and more in Mail.app
    I've encountered this very annoying bug/feature, where duplicate messages show up in a search (inside Mail). The duplicate messages are showing up multiple times (once, for each Smart Mailbox they reside in) as well as their physical Mailbox, as well as "All Mail".
    The lowdown:
    Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.4 Build 9E17)
    Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 -----(shut up! it still rocks w/my multiple 23'' apple displays)
    2GB RAM
    Mail.app Version 3.3 (926.1/926)
    This feature/bug makes it VERY difficult to find things when I'm forced to sift through at least 3 copies of any message that appears in Smart Mailboxes.
    Should I stop using Smart Mailboxes because this is a deliberate feature?
    Any suggestions or thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.
    In a search, I think that a better way to display the multiple locations (through Smart Mailboxes, etc) that a mailbox "appears" would be to add something to the header section of a message, below everything else, or off to the right, which would indicate the Original (physical) folder a message exists in, as well as it's locations via Search Folders. This would at least eliminate the problem where they're showing up as two, three, or more COPIES within a search.
    Thanks,
    Jackson

  • Duplicate messages and mixed up headers in message list from IMAP server dovecot 2-2.2.16

    These may be two different problems, but they happen about the same time and resolution work arounds work for both.
    1) My inbox occasionally fills up with duplicates of most (but not all) messages. There seems to be no rhyme or reason behind what gets duplicated. Once duplication starts, the messages that appear multiple times usually appear about the same number of repeats (1-5 repeats of each message) but not always exactly the same.
    Weirdly, sometimes an incoming mail triggers a refresh that disappears the duplicate messages and everything goes back to normal for a while spontaneously.
    I've tried Properties->Repair folder, manually deleting the .msf files, restarting TB, rebooting the computer, restarting the mail server, and changing mail directories. Restarting the server does nothing, the others sometimes but not always resolve the problem temporarily. (all the fixes I could find from similar problems posted by others).
    It is quite annoying - not only does my inbox become unreadable, I don't know which instance to reply to.
    I'm connected to the same account on the same server with K9 and have no such problems.
    Problem 2: occasionally the header of a message in the list pane doesn't match the message in the preview pane. The above fixes resolve this problem to greater or lesser degree most of the time as well, but it always comes back.
    Is there a problem between TB and Dovecot? are there any possible fixes?
    I've been having this problem for a while: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2852813
    Maybe has found a fix? I keep hoping an update will magically fix the problem, but so far no such luck.

  • IOS 8 creating multiple group messages with same recipients

    After updating to iOS 8.0, my iPhone 5s has started creating multiple group messages with the same recipients. For example, my phone has created three group threads with the exact same people in it. Different friends' messages go to different threads. It is terrible confusing and annoying. It has done this with several of my group messages. Deleting the duplicate threads have not worked. They keep recreating themselves when certain people text the group.
    Any suggestions? This has been a problem for many of my friends as well.

    Hi hkapn,
    Do you and your wife use the same Apple ID and are connected to the same wifi network?  Your phone ringing to multiple devices is called Continuity and is a feature of iOS8. https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/continuity/
    Essentially, it allows you to use your iPhone cellular connection on all of your iOS8 devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac computers with Yosemite.  On some devices the call will look like it is coming through FaceTime, but likely on your wife's iPhone it just looked like a regular call.
    Since your iPhone was "hosting" the phone call through it's own cellular connection, you were able to pick it up after your wife answered, which caused your wife's phone to disconnect.  This is called Handoff and is also a feature of iOS8.
    You can turn off Continuity if you'd like, but you could also look into getting your wife her own Apple ID.  I'm guessing you were sharing one so that you didn't have to make purchases twice.  Also in iOS8, there is a feature called Family Sharing which allows you to link multiple Apple IDs and share purchases (among other things).
    In regards to the group text message issue, as far as I can tell, splitting group messages is NOT a feature.   I agree that there should be an answer to this already!

  • Duplicate Messages sent

    Hi there,
    I am trying to figure out why I receive duplicate messages from my message queue. We have our Entity Beans send out messages when their state changes. When the beans are deployed first, and their state changes, only a single message is sent out, but if the state of the bean is changed again, then multiple messages are sent out. I guess the message queue does not get flushed after the delivery of the messages. Can any one shed some light on this issue?
    Here is my client code, which is gui.
    try {
    TopicConnectionFactory factory = serviceLocator.getTopicConnectionFactory("jms/TopicConnectionFactory");
    Topic topic = serviceLocator.getTopic("jms/jtTopic");
    TopicConnection connect = factory.createTopicConnection();
    TopicSession session = connect.createTopicSession(false, Session.CLIENT_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    TopicSubscriber subscriber = session.createSubscriber(topic);
    subscriber.setMessageListener(this);
    System.out.println("Listening for messages on topic/rhythm-employee...");
    // calls onMessage();
    connect.start();
    } catch (NamingException ne) {
    ne.printStackTrace();
    } catch (JMSException jme) {
    jme.printStackTrace();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    And here is the onMessage code:
    public synchronized void onMessage(Message message) {
    try {
    ObjectMessage oMsg = (ObjectMessage) message;
    String jobName = oMsg.getStringProperty("jobName");
    String scnName = oMsg.getStringProperty("scnName");
    if (oMsg.getStringProperty("actionType").equals("scene")) {
    SceneTO sceneTO = (SceneTO) oMsg.getObject();
    System.out.println("Scene Name: " + sceneTO.getSceneName());
    final Object obj = oMsg.getObject();
    Hashtable hash;
    if (obj instanceof SceneTO) {
    JTBase.jobLock.lock();
    hash = (Hashtable) JTBase.Jobs.get(jobName);
    if (!hash.containsKey(scnName)) {
    hash.put(scnName,new Hashtable());
    hash = (Hashtable) hash.get(scnName);
    if (!hash.containsKey("Scene Info")) {
    hash.put("Scene Info",new Hashtable());
    hash = (Hashtable) hash.get("Scene Info");
    if (hash.containsKey("data")) {
    hash.remove("data");
    hash.put("data",obj);
    JTBase.jobLock.releaseLock();
    // Refresh if needed
    if(JTBase.jobName.equals(jobName) && JTBase.scnName.equals(scnName)) {
    SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
    public void run() {
    updateHeader(obj);
    if (JTBase.tabName.equals("Scene Info")) {
    updateMain("Refresh");
    oMsg.clearBody();
    message.acknowledge();
    } catch(JMSException jmsE) {
    JTBase.jobLock.releaseLock();
    jmsE.printStackTrace();
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    <rhajikhani1>
    When the beans are deployed first, and their state changes, only a single message is sent out, but if the state of the bean is changed again, then multiple messages are sent out
    </rhajikhani1>
    Does this not sound like a problem at the sending-side (your Entity Bean) rather than the receiving-side (the GUI code you have below).
    You say that when the Entity Bean is deployed it sends one message which (I assume) is handled OK by the GUI code. Then, when the Entitiy Bean changes it starts sending multiple messages, isn't this a problem with the Entity Bean message sending code?
    Anyway, if you are sure it is the receiver side I suggest placing a try catch (Throwable) around the code in the onMessage and printing the stack trace. At the moment you only catch JMSExceptions. The reason I say this is that maybe the message.acknowledge line is not being called which has resulted in a redelivery for some reason.
    I can see several points in your code where a NullPointerException could be raised which would result in the message not being acknowledged. For example if the message does not contain the property "scnName" then a NullPointerException will be thrown by the call to hash.containsKey(scnName). If you were to catch Throwables then you can tell if there is a problem with the onMessage method (or the messages it is receiving).
    Hope this helps,

  • Receiving multiple duplicate emails using Outlook 2010

    I am receiving multiple duplicate emails using Outlook 2010. The email receiving, can go up to few hundreds copies. Not
    all emails i receive will be duplicated. There is no common sender for those affected emails. Usually when i received email from my Outlook 2010 the email in Outlook Web Access will be gone. But this time round for those affected duplicating emails, it still
    can be found in the Outlook Wed Access. Any solution for this problem? Currently
    I would need to go into the Outlook Web Access to delete the affected email then the duplication will be stop. Or I would need to cancel the Send/Receive & restart Outlook. But this 2 method is only temporary solution. The problem will keep coming
    back.

    Dear Jeremycny,
    I think you are working with a POP3 account and issue of replicated emails in Outlook is common in the case of POP3 connection. So, first of all uncheck the
    “Leave a copy of messages on the server” option and see the results.
    Also, see the TasK Manager, if there are multiple “Outlook.exe” are running under the
    “Processes” tab, then end the unnecessary programs as each of them downloading the same email multiple times.
    Apart from it, if there are numbers of factors behind the replication of emails in Microsoft Outlook such as:
    Rules (Exploiated Rules)
    Scanning Programs Integration
    Damaged Outlook Profile
    Robert’s have defined these bugs in a more profound manner in his blog, so take more help from the given source:

  • An Applescript or similar to remove duplicate messages

    As a result of the slow performance of Mail, I've just noticed that my "Sent" folder contains triplicates of all the messages that I've ever sent since November 2005. I think that this is the result of rebuilding three different mail accounts, following a technical hitch that resulted in lots of messages disappearing.
    What I want to know is: is there a way to automatically delete duplicate messages and to keep a single copy of each? There are nearly 10,000 messages in the box and I really don't want to do it manually!
    Many thanks for any advice you can offer.
    G4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    What you describe doesn’t make sense. It looks like you’ve set up the same mail account multiple times and that the multiple copies are just the same message appearing in each of the accounts. Anyway, to answer your question, Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that may or may not be what you’re looking for.
    Before you start deleting anything, however, quit Mail and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the Mail folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    Also, check that the multiple copies of those messages are really independent of one another, i.e. that deleting one of them doesn’t cause the others to be deleted as well.
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • How can I prevent Mail from applying actions (moving/copying/flagging/marking read) to duplicate messages?

    I use Mail to check multiple accounts. When I receive the same e-mail in multiple accounts, actions applied to an e-mail in one account often (though not always) affect duplicate messages in other accounts.
    Example 1
    Someone sends an e-mail to both me and my wife. Mail is set up to check both accounts. If I open the message in my Inbox, it marks it as read in my Inbox as well as in my wife's Inbox.
    Example 2
    For historical reasons, I have chosen to have all my e-mail forwarded (by the server) to a second account, to be used essentially as an un-touched archive of all incoming mail. If I manually move a message from my main account Inbox to another mailbox, the destination mailbox will end up with 2 copies, one from my main account Inbox and the other from the "un-touched archive" Inbox (which has obviously now been altered unintentionally).
    Does anyone know of a way to prevent this behavior. I can manage my own duplicates. I don't want Mail to do it for me.
    (Btw, I already have the "AlwaysShowDuplicates" option set using "defaults delete com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates")

    There are certainly many ways of organizing things so that Mail never has to deal with multiple accounts and duplicate messages (separate user accounts, separate computers, separate mail clients, etc., etc). That's just not what I was asking. I'd like to know how to fix Mail's behavior when it does have to deal with multiple accounts and duplicate messages.
    I was hoping there might be another hidden preference or something (and by the way my original post should have said "defaults write com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates -bool true", instead of the "defaults delete ...")
