Multiple duplicates of messages in my in box

Question

i am getting duplicates (sometimes up to ten!!!) of the same messages in my in box and in my spam box. I am using Apple mail 2.0.7 and Tiger 10.4.6
I also have been using Spamseive and it has always been very reliable. The problem has been happening for a couple of days now.
I am also re-receiving emails that I have deleted from a few days ago....and then those show up as multiples also...
I removed all the rules in my MAIL accounts...there were only two. One to color the background of emails from Apple and one for my spamseive program.
This problem is only happening on my eMac G4. I have an iBook G4 running the same email set up and all is well on that one...so that leads me to believe it is not a problem on the message server but unique to the single machine.
I use POP mail to receive my Yahoomail account in Apple Mail.

Well, first of all, I'm not sure this is a problem in Mail. Too many people have reported it recently, and in all cases it's a Yahoo account.
The .backup file is a backup copy that (I believe) Mail does automatically every time you change your rules. I'd rather move it out of the Mail folder too.
Since you're using SpamSieve and it uses the rules file, it could interfere with troubleshooting this, so try the following procedure instead:
1. Quit Mail.
2. In the Finder, go to HOME/Library/Mail/.
3. Locate the Bundles folder and move it to the Desktop. The Bundles folder is where Mail plug-ins such as SpamSieve are installed. By moving it to the Desktop we're just disabling any 3rd party plug-ins you might have installed, including SpamSieve.
4. Locate MessageRules.plist within the Mail folder and move it to the Desktop. If there is a file called MessageRules.plist.backup, move it to the Desktop too. You may also see MessageSorting.plist files there. This is where Mail stored the rules in Panther, and they are no longer used in Tiger, so just move them to the Trash if you see them.
5. Launch Mail. You may want to go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish. Consider shutting down the Internet connection before launching Mail to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled.
If the above does not work, then you know the rules file has no bearing on this and you can move the files on the Desktop back to the HOME/Library/Mail/ folder (replacing any files Mail may have created automatically there) -- be sure to quit Mail before doing this.
