Multiple ESS's in one Portal connected to different backend systems?

Hi,
We have two backend systems installed.
We have one portal.
We want to create a second copy of the ESS Portal content connected to the the second backend.
Datawise this is not a problem.
But what about the JCo's and the Homepage Framework?
The WebDympro application seems to look for two specific JCo (for example SAP_R3_HumanResources and ...MetaData) and then both copies of ESS want to use this. Is it not possible to have each copy of ESS use it own JCo's and connect to its own backend system for the Homepage Frameworks?
Thanks,
Adriaan

Adriaan,
Its NOT possible to even talk to different clients in same backend system because you cannot duplicate the JCos and while creating them you need to specify the system and client details.
Also it uses a system alias which also has to be unique.
Per my knowledge one portal instance can talk to only backend client and to talk to another backend / client you will need to create a new instance within the Portal.
This [help|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/82/76a2406546ba15e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm] talks sometihng on multiple backend support. I am not much aware about it but see if it helps you.

    We are having major problems with integrating SRM, ESS/MSS into one portal 7.01?

  • Multiple ESS access to single EP server from two backend servers.

    Hi Experts,
    I have one concern regarding ESS.
    Can we do or can we make   two ESS access (R3 server1 and R3 Server2)  from one Portal server.
    I heard  that from one portal server (ESS)  we can connect multiple clients which are from backend R3 (example client 100 and client 200)
    My requirement is  :
    We have two R3 backend servers and one EP(ESS) server.
    Can we access two backend systems from one EP server with Two ESS tabs.
    I am expecting Multiple jco settings, multiple SSo, Multiple SLD, Multiple SPRO Menu settings, UWL settings.
    Multiple service specific settings to be access  by using  single EP server(Multiple ESS Tabs)
    Please help me for doing this.
    Regards
    Kumar.

    yes you can do so As Pooja indicated also refer
    Please have a look  at the Note 596698
    Thanks for clearing that up, Now if I understand the issue
    correctly :
    1 Portal, Two backend R/3 System, This can be done, Now then
    if you dont want the particular application disable that
    r/3 as you are aware that the links appear from V_T7XSSSERRES.
    Here you can also make sure some applications appear or no.
    Accessing multiple Backends in WebDynpro:
    How it can be done?
    1) Define different JCO Destinations
      The logical System names have to be defined in the Web Dynpro Content
    Administrator.
      Different clients or completely different Systems can be accessed
    given that the function modules called exist in those systemsThe logical System to be used can be passed to the Web Dynpro
    Application by using a URL Parameter
      The URL Parameter can be easily maintained in the iView Property when
    using the portal.
    The standard way to handle this is to create copies (via delta-link) of
    all the business package iviews and change the 'System' property in the
    newly created iviews to point to the correct system Alias. From the
    portal point of view this is all that is required in order to point an
    view to a different system

  • One Internet Connection, Two different LANS & Two DHCP Servers, How to share internet without conflict?

    I have two LANs and one internet connection.  Each LAN has its own DHCP server.  I want to be able to have internet access on BOTH LANs but don't
    want to have a DHCP conflict between them.
    The main LAN is a Time Warner Cable modem and a Cisco router running DHCP going to a 48 port switch that has all the workstations connected.
    The second is a stand alone Windows 2012 WDS server which is ONLY use to image computers via WDS. The server is running DHCP as well and is connected to another 48 port switch where I connect systems that need to be imaged.
     I want to be able to provide internet access on LAN with the Windows 2012 WDS server so after I image the computers I can download drivers direct from the internet.   The Windows WDS server has two NIC cards but I am only using one.   Is
    it possible to configure this so the internet from the main LAN is shared to the WDS server and its clients without causing problems with the two DHCP servers?   Here is a basic network diagram.   Thanks!

    Hi Adam,
    To share the internet on secondary VLAN, please follow the steps below:
    Connect the secondary switch to Cisco router
    Configure the devices on secondary VLAN to use Cisco router as its' gateway
    Configure NAT for secondary VLAN on Cisco router
    Due to different manufacturer has different ways to configure, for detailed configuration information, please consult the manufacturer of the switch and router.

  • User authantication error when we try to connect to a backend system

    Hi,
    We have a stand alone webdynpro application where in we are calling some rfc function modules. We have imported the models using jco connection in a development system by providing the system/user info. When we deploy and run the application in the development system the application works fine. But when we deploy the application in different test systems it fails with user authantication error while triggering those rfc function modules. Can any one help us how we can identify the problem?
    We basically dont know with what system/user information its trying to connect to back end.
    Kind Regards,
    Prakash

    Hi Prakash,
    THere can be Multiple reasons for this problem
    1.if you are using JCO connections with UID/Password authomtication,make sure that Connection is working properly by testing it in Web dynpro console administrator.
    2.if you are using SSO authontication mechanism in your JCO Connections,make sure that you have UID in the back end system(BAckend Quality system) and your portal system is connected to Backend quality sytems using SSO.
    hope this helps

  • Can we use the Portal of a different BW system than we get the data from?

    Hi Guys,
    we use a BW on HANA ABAP System with a Business Objects Server Connection in a proof of concept scenario. The BW system HS1 has Usage Type ABAP only. Besides of this we have a “normal” BW System, P70with a Usage Type ABAP as well as Usage Type JAVA (J70). As a third component we do have a BO Server, where we have stored some DesignStudio Reports with Data from HS1.
    We would like to use the existing J70 Portal of our “productive” BW Portal as an access point to the design studio reports.
    What I am wondering:
    Can we use the SSO Ticket that we get when we log in our portal environment to connect to our BO server?
    Are we able to use then BO Reports that are connected to another BW System?
    How we do this or do we have to take something into account?
    Regards,
    Cemal Aslan.

    hey Cemal,
    it might depend on your releases... we currently have a test scenario with a Portal that is being used to display reports from a 7.31 BW system as well as the embedded 7.31 BW system of an ECC6 (EHP6) ERP system (as far as the Portal is concerned, that's just another BW system). The Portal is a 7.31 system as well.
    I don't know too many (technical) details as anything beyond the BW server is out of my hands. I think this was not possible in older versions of the Portal though...
    Cheers,

  • Connect to a backend system with the BI connector via Visual Composer

    Hi all,
    I set up a system landscape on my notebook with the NW2004s ABAP as NSP and with the NW2004s JAVA SP7 as J2E. Both systems are integrated in the SLD, this is set up. Furthermore I installed a BI system alias as NSP_XMLA in the portal with the URL for the backend system: http://localhost:8000/sap/bw/xml/soap/xmla.
    I have the same user on portal and backend system NSP. Both have admin previleges.
    When I try to logon to the backend system with this URL I get this error:
    "No switch to HTTPS occurred, so it is not secure to send a password"
    " Choose "Logon" to continue A dialog box appears in which you can enter your user and password"
    Then I can logon to the server and get a lot of XML.
    But I have to manually logon to the system.
    From the portal I cannot logon to the backend system with the test function. I get the error:
    Alias is found, but connection failed.
    I guess there must be an automatic logon preconfigured.
    How can I do this?
    Is SSO necessary?
    thanks for any help

    Hi Gregor,
    thanks for your answer, which was intersting but could not solve the problem. In the meantime I discoverd the reason for it.
    You have to insert the connection URL to the BW system at 2 points in the system.
    1. You have to configure the XMLA connector with the Visual Administrator.
    2. You must implement a system in the portal where you configure all necessary information, also the URL to the BW system.
    This seems somewhat strange to me because you will then not be able to connect with two or more BW systems to the portal and VC what is centainly necessary in a real world scenario. Anyway I can now see all Infoproviders of the BW system in the VC, and SSO isn't necessary because you configure the information to login to the BW system directly in the configuration of the XMLA connector in Visual Administrator.

  • Connecting a webdynpro applcn to different backend systems

    Hi,
    We have a webdynpro application based on adaptiveRFC model connected to a backendsystem with client number 200 for users of sister company A.
    Another sister company B would like to use the same application(also on the same WAS platform) but connected to the backend with client 300.
    The JCO destination for the application allows definition of one specific system at one time.
    Duplicating the webdynpro application seems tedious as the application is robust.
    Any other suggestions?
    Regards
    meesum

    Hi Meesum,
    1. Create 2 Jco destination in your WAS. (eg. JCo_CompA and JCo_CompB)
    2. Based on the company get the JCo.Client and set that to the model.
    //Getting the JCo.Client from the J2EE server
         IWDJCOClientConnection clientIWDJCOClient;
         JCO.Client clientJCO = null;
            //Change this string value based on company
         String strSystemName = "JCo_CompA";
         try
              clientIWDJCOClient = WDSystemLandscape.getJCOClientConnection(strSystemName);
              clientJCO = clientIWDJCOClient.getClient();
         }catch (WDSystemLandscapeException e){                     //Handle exception here
    //Instantiate your model object and set the JCo.Client to the model
    MO_Modelname objModel = (MO_ModelName) WDModelFactory.getModelInstance(
         MO_ModelName.class,WDModelScopeType.APPLICATION_SCOPE);
    objModel.setJcoClient(clientJCO);

    a Socket can have only one InputStream (Socket.getInputStream()) and one OutputStream Socket.getOutputStream()). So you will have to create a way to make multiple Socket connections in your client program. And yes, you have to use threads for your server. if you dont the client will have to wait until the user before them is finished with the connection before being able to connect. I hope this helps you out. BTW please check out http://www.javabible.com. they have the book online now for free.

  • Multiple port opened for one db connection.

    My java standalone server connects to sql server via MS sql JDBC driver(v 2.2). I saw so many port in Time_wait state to the db server in netstat. I did some search on the internet, found that this the nature of TCP/IP protocol. and we can live with it without modifying Windows config.
    however, I noticed on my side, there are two ports involved for each database connection. I think this is one of the reasons I have so many ports in Time_wait state.
    To me, it seems like the request to db server is done on one port, the response from db server is done on another port. is this implemented on JDBC driver layer or on sql server?
    please help !!!

    I saw so many port in Time_wait state to the db server in netstat. This suggests that you are not using any type of connection pooling, but instead are opening and closing connections pretty quickly, although it depends on what you mean by "many"; 10 or 100 might be a good number for a busy system, depending on your application. On some operating systems under high load, it could potentially be a problem if you are getting into many hundreds or thousands, but other issues usually drive people to using connection pools long before this issue would.
    however, I noticed on my side, there are two ports involved for each database
    connection. I think this is one of the reasons I have so many ports in Time_wait state.Not really. That might double the number, but the real reason is a lot of connection closes (real connection closes, not closes on a pooled connection).
    To me, it seems like the request to db server is done on one port,
    the response from db server is done on another port.
    is this implemented on JDBC driver layer or on sql server?That is totally up to the driver vendor; there's nothing you can do about it.
    please help !!!I'm not sure what you're problem really is - you might be worrying about something that isn't a problem. Is something bad happening that you're trying to fix, or did you just notice these expiring ports and start worrying about them?

  • Multiple IOS devices with one apple id and different PCs to synch

    I have 2 macs, 1 Apple TV, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 3 iPods and 1 windows pc.
    I would like to:
    1) sync each of them with one of the Macs using the same apple Id;
    2) connect with FaceTime with each of them separately (at least the iPads and iPhones);
    3) synch one phone with the Mac for music and my work PC for apps.
    What should I do using my unique apple I'd?
    Txs,
    Roberto

    When you say "sync", are you talking about physically having songs, movies, etc on your computers and devices?  Or simply want to access those files on those computers and devices?  *Syncing is different from Home Sharing but you are in the Home Sharing discussion forum.  That is why I am asking.
    If they are all in the same network and just want to access them or listen/watch them, all you have to do is turn on Home Sharing for all of your machines and devices with the same account.
    For Mac/PC desktops, you can turn on Home Sharing in iTunes 11.  Go to File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing.  Do this for all machines.  After doing that, you go to the media selector button at the top left to see your Home Shares.  Or you can enable the sidebar by going to View > Show Sidebar.  From there, just connect to your other computers and you will able to listen or watch to your content.
    For your devices, turn on Home Sharing in Settings.  Go to Settings > Music or Video > Home Sharing and enter the same Apple ID and password.  You can listen to songs in Music and watch videos in Video.app.
    For your Apple TV, if it is a 2nd gen ATV or later then you can turn on Home Sharing under Computers in the main screen.  For the 1st gen ATV, you can either share or pair with iTunes.
    If you want to physically have files (this is syncing), then you can sync your devices to the machine you want to sync with.
    With respect to FaceTime, if you want to use FaceTime on your phone with someone but separately on your iPad then you can associate your phone number to FT on your phone and on your iPad, you can use your Apple ID for FaceTime.  That way, if people want to FT on your phone, they should use the phone number to FT.  For iPad, people should enter your Apple ID when doing FT.

  • Reverse Proxy from Apache to portal to 2 different ITS Systems

    We're using Apache 2 webserver and we've enabled reverse proxy from our proxy server to our Enterprise Portal 7.0.  We have transaction iviews for different systems, an ECC 6.0 and CRM 5.0.  We are using the integrated ITS for these systems provided with basis version 7.0.  We have all the necessary ports open in the firewall.  I know how to configure the proxy when there's only one ITS server, but how would I do it for two (the ECC and CRM system)?

    We have integrated ITS.  I am not sure I understand where you are going with globalr.srvc file.  We have two systems that we want to hit from the portal via reverse proxy.  One is the ECC system and the other CRM 5.0.  In our portal we use the integrated ITS for each system:
    ECC sytem:
    http://ecc.system.com:8001/sap/bc/gui/its/sap/webgui
    CRM sytem:
    http://crm.system.com:8001/sap/bc/gui/its/sap/webgui
    The issue is how would I map to both ITS from the Apache reverse proxy

  • Programmatic access to multiple backend systems using adaptive RFC

    Hello,
    The following  link http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/af/84a34098022a54e10000000a1550b0/content.htm talks about the support to map multiple backend systems by specifying the backend system as URL parameters in a webdynpro application.
    For example:
    http://<hostname>:<port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/local/ESSProject/ESSApp?
    sap.wdarfc.useSys=WD_MODELDATA_DEST:ABC&
    sap.wdarfc.useSys=WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST:ABC
    Is it possible to programmatically change the backend systems the application connects to? in other words can a single application while executing connect to different backend systems by dynamically changing the model parameters?
    (This should be possible without the portal in the picture)

    Hello
    Do you have any experience or just some information on the solutions when two portals are connected to one BW system? I am just wondering, is it possible?
    Thanks in advance,
    Arelis

    We have done the same thing for ESS we had to portals connected to one r/3 but beaware when we change the config for one on the backend r/3 side the settings for the other is also affected.
    there is no issue with the load in this scenario and applications work fine independently as well.
    but before doing this just ask your self it is really required cant i create 2 differnt roles and manage the display of the same using the themes?
    but still if u wan tot do the same it is possible
