Multiple EUL Connections in Discoverer 9i Plus

Discoverer 9i Plus doesn't allow you to change your default EUL anymore. I currently have to set up different connections for each EUL. Is there a way to set up one connection and change between my EULs like it had done in previous versions?

I believe that while you can turn on the ability for an end-user to create private connections, only the administrator (that would be the application server administration) can create public connections.
Otherwise any end user could open a database connection to everyone, which wouldn't be very secure.

    Please, i need your help!

I had a similar problem with a vanilla install of 11g on my local Windows XP box. The difference was that I could connect using SqlPlus but could not connect with Sql Developer.
In Sql Developer, I first tried "Connection type = basic", "Hostname = localhost", "Port = 1521" and "sid = orcl".
I then tried "Connection type = TNS", "Network Alias = ORCL".
    Neither worked.
In the end, I got around the first problem by replacing "localhost" with the machine's IP address. I got around the second problem by looking at windows services and noticing that the "OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener" service was set to start automatically but was not started. I started it manually and all was good. I'm sure this willl alll fall apart when my IP address changes due to DHCP but at least I will know where to look.

  • Discoverer Viewer/Plus does not work with Custom EUL owned by APPS user

I am facing a unique issue with one of my customers. They have a custom EUL named XX_EUL_US and this does not allow connecting through discoverer viewer or discoverer plus.
I have worked with custom EULS before at other customers and this was never the case. I am being told that this issue is happening as the EUL owner is APPS instead of some other user. Is this the case? Can discoverer viewer not be used with EULs owned by apps user?
Please not that the Default EUL in ICX profiles is set to this EUL and no other EUL profiles are set.
    Appreciate any thoughts on this.

    Hi,
I am not sure what you mean when you say you have a "custom EUL named XX_EUL_US". The EUL table should be created in a schema named XX_EUL_US. This will then be the EUL owner. You will then need to connect to Discoverer Administrator as the EUL owner and grant privileges to Apps users and/or responsibilities.
The user should then be able to connect to Discoverer Plus/View using their apps username, responsibility and password.
To be able to connect directly from an apps menu you need to have the ICX parameters set correctly. The ICX: Discoverer Default End User Layer Schema Prefix should be set to XX_EUL (without the _US). The ICX: Discoverer End User Layer Language Override should be set to US or not set at all.

  • Connecting Discoverer 4i Plus

    Hi there!
I have a problem with the Discoverer 4i Plus....
When I try to connect to the Application Server, I received this Connection Error message: "Failed to connect to locator XPTOOracleDiscovererLocator4 pointed by locator.ior file at ...."
Can anyone tell me a way to fix this problem?
    Regards,
    GDS

We had the same problem. There is a patch available on oracle metalink that will upgrade disco admin edition (to version 4.1.36), which will then update your EUL.
Here is how you get it:
    -go to: "metalink.oracle.com"
    -click: "patches"
-click: "Click here for Patches released..."
    -select product: "Discoverer admin..."
    -select platform: "MS Windows NT/2000..."
    and there it is...

  • Error on connecting to discoverer plus

I'm triying to connect to Discoverer Plus or Viewer. When I get to the login screen, fill all the required fields, but I got the following message: "The application encountered an invalid state.
    - - Nested exception: org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: vmcid: SUN minor code: 201 completed: No

can you please help me out so solve this prob.
the discoverer plus version is 10.1.2.48.18

Currently there is not enough information to realy de-bug the issue. I would look at the URL and verify that the URL with the connections page is the same as after entering the connection information. The URL can change if there is a Load Balancer or Proxy server involved.
Run the Discoverer script below to verify the Discoverer server is up and working.
    $MidOH/discoverer/util > . ./checkdiscoverer.sh
Next look in the Discoverer application.log for additional information about the error. It is located at:
    $MidOH/j2ee/oc4j_bi_forms/application_deployments/discoverer/oc4j_bi_forms_default_island_1
    If these messages do
You are running an older release of 10g. The latest production release of 10g is 10.1.2.3 with Cumulative Patch 6 applied. See Note 237607.1 - ALERT: Required and Recommended Patch Levels For All Discoverer Versions. This Note is kept up to date.

    Hello
Do you have a copy of my Discoverer 10g Handbook? If so, chapter 16 on pages 548 to 612 cover OLAP in some detail. This chapter was written by Mark Rittman, OLAP expert extraordinaire.
He also runs a blog which you may find to be of some help: http://www.rittmanmead.com/blog/
There is at least one Oracle by Example which may help: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/discoverer/discoverer_1012/index.html
There are also some Oracle demonstrations on OLAP on the bottom right hand side of this page: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/discoverer/index.html

  • Error connecting in Discoverer Plus/Viewer 10.1.2

I'm triying to connect to Discoverer Plus or Viewer. When I get to the login screen, fill all the required fields, but I got the following message: "The application encountered an invalid state.
    - - Nested exception: org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: vmcid: SUN minor code: 201 completed: No
OracleBI Discoverer Viewer was unable to find the necessary data for displaying the results of this event. Please correct any errors and try again.
When I run the checkdiscoverer. It works ok in all the checks except for: "Error: Failed to bind to Discoverer Server.
Hint: Try increasing the timeout by changing the timeout value in opmn.xml.". As the hint said I increased the start timeout, I got it up to 3500 and even incresed the minprocs to see if that helped. Nothing worked.
I'm testing this in a Windows XP Pro SP2 installed 1GB Ram. I Installed the BI Tools, App server but no infrastructure. The Installation process finished without any problems, except for a warning regarding not being able to determine the IP address. I can access all the options of the app server.

    Hi Christian
In your connection to the database are you using a DNS named server or are you using an actual IP address?
By this I mean, when you launch Discoverer, do you do it this way:
    http://servername.domain.com:7777/discoverer/plus
    or this way:
    http://ipaddress:7777/discoverer/plus
If you are using the former, can you go to the server itself and run Discoverer ok? If you can then it is a case that your local machine cannot work out what the IP address is. Let's say, for arguements sake, that you server is http://myserver.mydomain.com and that the IP is 192.168.1.100
You could try editing your HOSTS file and inserting a line in there to associate the IP with the domain. To do this, follow this workflow:
    1. Right click on Windows Start button and from pop upmenu select Explore
    2. Navigate to the folder called Windows/system32/drivers/etc
    3. Locate the file called HOSTS
    4. Edit this file with Notepad
    5. Insert a line like this:
    myserver.mydomain.com 192.168.1.100
6 Save the HOSTS file and exit Explorer
This associates the IP with the server name.
    Does this help

  • Connection to Discoverer Plus (10g) lost when exporting workbook to Excel

I have a user who was exporting a workbook to Excel and it showed that the export failed. When she closed that box, she got a message that her Connection to Discoverer was lost.
Anyone experienced this one? Any ideas why this is happening?
    Cindy

    Hi Kevin
It will do this if you change the parameters away from the default and you have told Discoverer to remember parameter settings. This is controlled by an entry called SaveLastUsedParamValue in pref.txt on the server.
If this is the cause then its not a bug. All Discoverer thinks is that you have changed something. Even switching an item in Page Items could trigger this.
If you have users who only need to View reports why not use Viewer? You can turn off saving altogether there if you so wish.

  • Apps & Discvocerer with Multiple EUL

We have implemented multiple EUL in our instance.
When we log into the Discoverer plus directly using the URL
    (http://abc.com:1111/discoverer/app/connection?
    event=displayConnections&clientType=plus)
the end user is given a choice to select the EUL from the list.
But when we log into the Discoverer plus via Oracle e-business suite, the system does not ask the user to select the EUL. I understand that the EUL is picked up from the profile "ICX: Discoverer Default End User Layer Schema Prefix".
Can we alter the configuration, such that the user is given a chance to select the EUL, while launching Discoverer Plus from e-business suite application also.
    thanks
    Yj

    Thanks for your reply.
The requirement is that - there are multiple department working on developing discoverer report. In order provide update access restriction of one department's business area by other, we have created multiple EUL.
Is there any way, where we can create multiple user logging to same EUL, having update access to different Business Area ?
    thanks

  • Multiple Query Generation from Discoverer?

Is there anyway we can generate multiple query reports in discoverer plus? I have a daily dashboard which we send out on daily basis which has multiple queries to generate certain numbers. And I have a stored procedure for this. Is it possible to have multiple queries in 1 workbook to generate the report? If yes, then how? If not then, can we have this stored procedure in disco admin tool in a specific business area which basically kicks the SQL and stores the data in a table within that business area and in disco plus tool we can then simply select all the data from that table to generate the report? I would really appreciate if anyone could answer this.
    Thanks,
    K

Another interesting way you can prepare a table is a method I've just seen using Disco 4.x.
We've made such a big deal on using triggers recently, that this was so simple, I must admit I never thought of it.
What the user did was have a function that called a pl/sql routine that did all the work and created the table.
Then in the Disco workbook, they specified workbook 1 - the first workbook that took in parameters from the users, and passed the parameters into the function (ie: a from date and to date).
The workbook didn't return any column from any folders, etc. but just presented the calculation that called the function.
So, in a nutshell, the user runs the first worksheet where 2 parameters are asked for. Then when finished, it means the table is now ready for the real action so they go to the 2nd. worksheet and it just runs without any parameters but refers to the table set up by the first worksheet.
No parameter passing to the EUL, nothing fancy, but all done in the function that called the pl/sql routine. Very easy.
So, for you, you should be able to use the same concept, but in batch, run the first worksheet (ie: putting in the 2 parameters), and then just run the 2nd. worksheet once the first is finished and the table setup.
    Hope it helps.

  • Discoverer 4i Plus returns no data when using views with db link references

I am using Discoverer 41 Plus to view reports online.
When I create a worksheet based on a view, that only references local tables, everything is OK and Disco plus shows the output OK.
When I create a worksheet based on a view, that references a Database link, Disco plus gives me an "Query caused no data to be returned" error.
Is this to be expected from Discoverer Plus?
    Thanks - Sue.

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the default position (and default aggregate) for the EUL folder item? I can see that some of the folders have number type items with default position 'Data Point' and others have these with default position of 'Top or Side'. I'm totally stabbing around in the dark here; looking at EUL folders which exhibit the problem and those which don't.
I've tried changing one field to 'Data Point' and it hasn't helped. Will try changing the join items now I think.
If anyone has any comments, would be v. grateful as I'm looking at dropping folders which have quite a bit of code around them and trying to re-create them exactly, which is a risky and horrible solution.

  • Discoverer Viewer/Plus 10g after a migration from Discoverer 4i

    Hi, I upgrated Discoverer4i to Discoverer 10g with Ebusiness Suite 11i ( 11.5.9) without installin AS 10g
    I followed the note: http://oracle-magic.blogspot.com/2006/11/upgrading-discoverer-4i-to-10g-on-apps.html
If I use Discoverer Administrator and Desktop it works perfectly (I connect as an Oracle Application User)
Now, I want to see my reports with Discoverer Viewer/Plus but I don't understand how to do it (always connecting with an Oracle Application user).
My previous URL (with Discoverer4i) was: http://gnvdev.ote.gr:8025/discoverer4i/viewer
Now, after the Discoverer 10g installation I can connect to the "Welcome to Oracle Business Intelligence 10g (10.1.2)" page with the following URL:http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779/
I didn't understand how Ebusiness Suite 11i ( 11.5.9) can communicate with Discoverer 10g in order to see reports from the web
Can anyone help to understand where and how I should modify anything in order to see my reports with Discoverer Viewer or Plus
    Thank you
    Alex

If you have followed all the steps in "Note: 313418.1 - Using Discoverer 10.1.2 with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i" then you should be able to access Discoverer Plus/Viewer through the following links:
    Discoverer Plus:
    http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779//discoverer/plus
    Discoverer Viewer:
    http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779//discoverer/viewer
The above links will prompt for some input, all what you need to provide is:
    - Applications Username
    - Applications Password
    - Database (SID)
