Multiple Fabrics - how many?

Hi,
We are configuring our MDS switches for new storage and there are a couple of options.  I am not sure which is the best way to go.
We have 6 x 9124's.  Our new storage has plenty of ports.  Each of the 6 x 9124's will be connected to 2 ports on the storage (12 connections in total).  I am going to treat the 6 x 9124s as pairs - so really it will be 3 pairs, and each pair is essentially a fabric A and B.
So the idea would be that when connecting a host to our SAN, we will pick one of the pairs and connect the host to both switches in that pair and zone it to use the storage ports connected to that same switch.  This way, traffic will never actually need to "cross" between switches (and in fact it can't as there are no ISLs) - it will always be from the host to the storage all on the same switch.  Each of the pairs of switches is acting as a fabric A and B.
In reality we will have 6 fabrics (as each switch will be a fabric).  Connecting a new host to our storage will require configuration on two switches (fabrics), depending on which of the 3 pairs we choose to connect that host to.  So really it will be 3 seperate "fabric A and B" setups, one for each pair.
This all sounds reasonable to me and should work quite well.
The only thing I am unsure about is whether there is any benefit in connecting ISLs between each of the "fabric A" switches and each of the "fabric B" switches - which would actually mean we really did have 2 fabrics rather than 6.
I am looking to understand the pros and cons of doing this.  We have plenty of ports so the ports lost to the ISLs are not an issue.  These ISLs would never be used for "storage traffic" to actually flow between switches as we would still zone it so that hosts always talked to the storage port(s) on the same switch.  The only reason to create the ISLs would be to consolidate 6 fabrics down to 2 which may (?) make it easier to manage.
Are there real advantages to connecting the switches to consolidate down to 2 fabrics?  I'm thinking that potentially it will be "nicer" to connect to DCNM-SAN and only see 2 fabrics rather than 6.  I'm also thinking that the "maps" that DCNM produces will be easier to comprehend when there are only 2 - rather than having to look at 6 different maps to get a good picture of what we have.  We will only be using the free DCNM-SAN (Essentials I think it is called).
Hopefully my question makes sense.  I'm really looking to understand whether it is better to keep 6 seperate fabrics or whether it might make more sense to use ISLs to consolidate down to 2.  Whether we keep 6 or go with 2, the concept would remain the same (each host connecting to a single pair of A/B switches and zones to the "local" storage ports) - so both solutions keep all storage traffic within the same switch.  The ISLs would effectively only act as "management" connectors such that it could all be seen together within DCNM-SAN.  Is there a disadvantage to connecting them together?
How would you do it?
Cheers,
David

Although I am not a SAN guy I would connect them together from the start. If the need ever arises to use a target on a different switch you would not face a SAN merge. Furthermore the zoning proces will be simpler you simply need to zone on FABRIC A and B and don't need to determine is the fabric A1 A2 or A3 to which the host is connected.

  • How many wikis and blogs can a user have?

    I recently set up web services. It is true that each user can create one blog and multiple wikis (how many wikis)? This is how it appears at the initial setup. I want to make sure I'm giving the correct information to my users.

    The available rows depends on your available RAM, complexity of equations, etc.. A large spreadsheet with numbers would be very slow. My machine (with 2 GB RAM) conks out with spreadsheets with about 20,000 rows.

  • How many spine nodes will be supported on ACI Fabric?

    Hi Experts,
    I want to clarify how many spine nodes will be supported on ACI Fabric now and future(maximum number of spines)? Because there are some different speculations about that. Someone says it'll be 12, others say it'll be 16 spines. Which  one is correct or others?
    Thanks in advance.
    Paul

    Hi, Paul,
    As today and the roadmap as per my information, We are still looking at 6 spines in each fabric.
    Number of leafs support has more importance which is 200 within one fabric in the upcoming release Q2'15. One fabric will also support approx 100 FEXs as well.

  • How many methods copies will create when i create multiple objects

    Hi
    I have big doubt in java. See the following Program
    class A{
    public int i;
    public static int j;
    public void methodOne(){
    Sytem.out.println("Welcome");
    public static void methodTwo(){
    System.out.println("Welcome methodOne");
    class B{
    public static void main(String[] args){
    A obj = new A();
    A objOne = new A();
    A objTwo = new A();
    In this program how many method copies and variable copies will create when i create mulitiple objects. I am sure that only one copy j variable and methodTwo method (becz both are static) for all the objects. what about the method methodOne and i. Here how many copies will create. Could you please explain this concept very clearly.
    Thanks and Regards

    Class/static variables---Static Memory
    Methods---Methods do not live on the heap or stack.Incorrect. Methods live in the method area, which is "logically part of the heap," according to the JVM spec.
    Instance/Member/field variables---It will create and destroy according to object initialization and destroy.That's very poor English and doesn't really capture what happens.
    policyHolder = new PolicyHolder(); //Dynamic objects will be stored in the heap.
    All objects are stored in the heap. There's no distinction between "dynamic" and "static."
    Class/static variables---Static variables are created when the program starts and destroyed when the program stops.Wrong. They are created when the class is loaded and destroyed when it is unloaded.
    I don't know where you got all this information from, but I recommend you don't use that site. Much of it is just plain wrong, and the rest is very poorly written and imprecise.

  • Multiple (Many) AX? How many?

    Hi all, Looking to spec a build for an oceangoing vessel and am interested in using Apples Airport Extreme's. We would need to expand the network to somewhere around 10 separate access points to cover all the needed areas.
    One requirement is low latency. I was intending on using WDS, but as that may reduce throughput I wonder if thats the best method.
    We are looking for seamless roaming between AP's. Ethernet network (hardwired) exists in each location, so star configuration with a decent switch at the center and a wired server handing out IP's is how we want to go.
    My main question: How Many AX's can I use on a network? I'd love to hear that I can scale them up to the limit of the protocol.

    Hello bobdole369. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    With a roaming network, the biggest limitation will be the number of available radio channels you would have at your disposal to prevent interference between the AXs. In practice, you would want each adjacent AX to be at least 3-5 channels apart from the next.
    A WDS would suffer the greatest loss in total bandwidth as bandwidth would be cut in half for each base station added. The maximum number of base stations in the traditional 802.11g WDS would be 21. On the other hand, the newer 802.11n AXs also support extending their "n" network with better results than the WDS. At this point in time, I am not aware of any limitations on the number of base stations that can extend the main base station ... so your star pattern suggestion would certainly work here.

  • How Many Times Can I Use The Same Serial Number For Adobe Creative Suite 4?

    I have design standard and was told I can use the same serial number on multiple computers. How many time can I use it? And say I install it on the maximum number of computers, but get a new computer, can I uninstall it on one of the old computers and use it on the new one? And can I use the programs on both computers simultaneously or do I have to use them one at a time?

    Broadly speaking, it depends on the type of license you have.
    Specifically, if you have a single license then officially, you should only install it once on one computer.
    Practically, (unless it has changed with CS4) you maybe able to install it on more then one computer, BUT can only run one instance of the software at a time. You can not run more then one instance of the software concurrently; i.e. you can't run Dreamweaver on Computer 1 and Photoshop on Computer 2. That would be two instances, and is not permitted.
    This is my understanding. I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong
    Fred
    Sorry Fred you are wrong.
    If you have a single license you can install it on as many computers as you like. you can only activate the suite on two computers at anyone time. Work and Home or as many of us do it Desktop and Laptop. You can not use the computers simultaneously. You only have 20 activation/deactivations so use them wisely. Student versions only have one activation. You can not break up the suite installs the suite is considered one application.

  • HT5622 How many family members, computers, iPods,iPad,IDs can you have on one iTunes account?

    I'm just trying to sort out some iTunes I'd issues.  Does anyone know how many total iPad iPods can be used with one Apple ID?  Or how many apple  IDs your can have with one iTunes account? Or does each person need there own Apple ID or Apple account? Thanks

    You can't have multiple IDs on one account, but you can use multiple IDs for different purposes on the same device.
    Just use the one AppleID for iTunes and the AppStore so you can all share your music and app purchases. Then each person should have their own individual AppleID with associated iCloud account for mail, contacts, calendars, iMessage and FaceTime.
    You don't have to use the same AppleID for all services.

  • How many users can be on creative cloud

    How many users can be on creative cloud

    Hi,
    With each subscription you are allowed to download on two different machines, but you cannot use the apps at the same time. So, in short the answer is just 1 person per Creative Cloud subscription.
    "Adobe has moved to identity-based licensing with a technology that will not support multiple same-product subscriptions, so you can only buy one membership per Adobe ID.  If you need two subscriptions to Creative Cloud, you will need to purchase each subscription with a unique Adobe ID.
    When you install your software, you will be required to enter the same Adobe ID that you used when purchasing your membership, for the following reasons:
    - To help ensure that the person who subscribed is the same person who is installing the software
    - To enable Adobe to send you important account information in the event your subscription is about to expire or cannot be charged to your credit card"
    Information is from the Creative Cloud FAQ

  • I already have an iTunes account but need to open a new one as I have many apple products but am limited to how many I can use my iTunes account on. How do I open a new one please. Thanks

    Hi I already have an itunes account registered to my address and email address.
    The problem is, I have many apple products but i'm limited to how many products I can use one itunes account for.
    How do I open a new itunes account for the same address please.
    Thanks for your help.
    Sam

    Well, you can probably do it, but then you also have to buy the products again to use them from the other account since they cannot be transferred or shared between accounts.  So if you have 7 computers and want the same movie authorized on all of them, you'll have to buy the movie twice and then authorize some devices on one account and others on the other.
    Do you really have >5 devices, or is it just that you have a lot of devices authorized that no longer exist but are tying up authorization slots?  If that's the case, you can deauthorize things.

    I have no idea how to do multiple accounts but you may need to create a new e-mail address (plenty of free ones out there).

  • How many different iPods can I sync with my single iMac user/iTunes account?

    Good Day to All,
    Can anyone tell me how many different iPods & iPhones can I successfully consistently sync/integrate using my one "user account" in iTunes on my iMac? This ist situation:
    I have always (and only) synced etc. my iPhone with my one iTunes UID which is under my ONE "User Account" on my  iMac. Recently, my elderly folks gave me 2 iPods they have never used. One is a little silver 4GB shuffle (the little guy with a built on "belt clip" & it verbally tells you what song and artist is playing. The other is also an iPod shuffle ( only 1GB), also has the metal "pinch to open; belt clip"; also no display, however it came with a little USB Dock and THIS ONE has all of the user controls on the face of it in a circular patter of course..
    To have COMPLETE successful "interaction/integration/syncing" etc (with no issues/complications etc) with my iTunes currently and previously only used with my iPhone, do I have to create two new additional "User Login/accounts" on my iMac (one for each iPod) to have all three if my devices work perfectly fine, or can I just use my same iMac login (UID) & iTunes that I use with my iPhone and have no worries?
    (ie: I created my girlfriend her own iMac login UID which she has always used for backing up/syncing etc her iPhone with HER iTunes library etc)
    In short, does iTunes have the ability to have multiple iPods & my iPhone under my one existing iTunes account AND using the same single iMac login/UID I've always used with my iPhone?
    Obviously, I know I could create an iMac login for my mom's, another for my dad's & create them both their individual iTunes accounts, but they really don't want to have to worry about dealing with all that. I'm teetering between just treating them as my iPods and mixing/adding their limited CD's into my library (again, if iTunes allows multiple iPods etc as explained above..
    OR; my other thought would be (again, if one iTunes account can integrate the two iPods as seperate devices and to just create ONE iMac UID login and ONE iTunes account under my dad's name, and use that one account for both of their music, both of their iPods, importing their CD's into the same iTunes library, then when syncing etc. just doing selective transfers/sync's of the specific music for each iPod... Even then, will iTunes be able to differentiate the two as far as backups/restored etc? I think  answering my own question as I type due to the cloud... For completely individual cloud interaction/integration, I would def need to create each of them their own iTunes accounts, otherwise they will have all of each other's songs on their devices.. (ie: And my dad def doesn't want to worry about skipping over my mom's Journey or Aerosmith tunes to get to his Willie Nelson and vice versa for example.
    (Sorry sooooo drawn out; thinking outloud) I guess it seems obvious that since all their digital music has to be on my iMac, I really should create them each their own iMac UID login as well as their own individual iTunes Acounts to insure cloud services work easily for restores/backups etc...
    Thanks for stumbling thru my thought processes here (if I didn't lose ya long ago); I'm exhausted and throwing thoughts at the classroom board to see what sticks.... The best easiest way that is.. (The two aren't always the same obviously!)
    Thank you all for your precious time and consideration and most if all; YOUR PATIENCE!! Any confirmation if the options and suggestions are greatly appreciated. You know, gotta take care of the folks & what is the simplest for them as just end users is the most important or they'll NEVER bother with them in the end...
    Respectfully appreciative,
    DB

    You can use as many iPods with one iTunes library as you want.

  • I'm a school tech coordinator. Many computers and many iPads. How many Apple IDs can I have per device, and how many devices can have the same Apple ID? To make my life easier, I'd like 200 devices to all use the same Apple ID.

    I'm a school tech coordinator. I have many computers and many iPads. I apologize if there is a some place that has all the rules governing the use of Apple IDs. I looked, and I even tried to get the answers from multiple Apple rep's. I couldn't find the answers.
    How many Apple IDs can I have per device?
    I want to use the same computer to sync and backup many iOS devices. The iOS devices would be associated with different Apple IDs.
    I may load apps under a school Apple ID and have users load their own apps under thier own ID.
    How many devices can have the same Apple ID?
    Can I use the same Apple ID on all the computers in a lab?
    Can I use the same Apple ID on all iPads for a particular grade level?
    Are the rules different for iOS devices and computers?
    I know that there are limits on "authorize" and "de-authorize" and how frequently those things can be done.
    Recently I heard that for the life of an iOS device, it can only be associated with five Apple IDs. That is not good for a school giving iPads to students in a 1:1
    To make my life easier, I'd like 200 devices to all use the same Apple ID.
