Multiple FF4 Navigation toolbar customize issues

I experience weird behaviors when customizing the Navigation toolbar (and other FF4 toolbars as I recall):
Every time I move or remove the last item (the one on the most right-hand side) in the Navigation toolbar, the following occurs:
- The New Tab "+" button on the Tab bar disappears
- The whole Navigation toolbar is blanked out
- The menu bar (if displayed) is grayed out
- All the toolbars disabled in View stay visible when closing Customize and Customize itself is grayed out, not offering the chance to fix this problem.
If I close and reopen Firefox 4.0, the menu and toolbar appear and the Customize feature is selectable, except that the Navigation toolbar is blank, so I have to redo all the customization again.
On another note, when customizing toolbars, there is no visual indication telling you which toolbar it is you are modifying. Since the height of the toolbars is very small, there should probably be a tooltip or some visual aid (the toolbar name) showing if you are dropping items on the Navigation or another toolbar.
See 'more system details' for steps to repro.

hello mu695,
I have read your entire book of complaints (excuse me if I describe it in a way that you don't want, I intend no harm with this).
and sadly enough I'll have to inform you that what you ask is not something that can be solved in a simple 1 2 3 solution, the toolbars and addons provided to firefox are mostly from thirth-party hosts or developers. this means that we cannot easily command them to change something.it is depending on those third-party developers themselves when toolbars and add ons get updated, however you might expext an update from google soon as they are known to be fast-responding to these kind of events. also to add to this bad news, I have to inform you that the way the toolbars look and behave is designed within the base of firefox, and as for that they can't be resolved in a day, it would take a lot of work and an entire update to change them,
which is sadly enough just not possible for 1 user.
however, I did summarize and file in your text with the developers they are very busy at the moment though, but if there are more people who have the same problem/ feeling as you then you might expect it to change soon in a future update.
I am sorry about the inconvenience that I can't do any more for you but I hope that you will keep using firefox, and that in one of our future updates your request of easily resizeable, customizable and organizable tool bars will be fulfilled.

I see "Add New Window" but..."Add New Tab" button does not exist in the Window -Customize Toolbar any longer, and not on my Navigator toolbar. Where can I find one to put on my Navigator toolbar, please?
Thanks

It's the "+" on the Tab bar. You can move it to the Navigation Toolbar if you prefer. When you start Customize, the + moves to the far right end of the Tab bar. You can drag it where you want (see attached image).
Any luck?

• 18.0.2 update undid customization of navigation toolbar & caused tabs to be greyed out

I just updated Firefox to 18.0.2, and a whole bunch of problems cropped up:
1. All my customization of the navigation toolbar disappeared! Things out of order, things there that weren't supposed to be there, and things not there which were supposed to be there. I had to completely redo it. All of the other toolbars (which were also customized) were fine though.
And then when I restarted Firefox after redoing my customization, it got messed up again – all of the items were there and in the right place, but the separators were gone! ...Except on one window. I am at my wit's end!
2. All of my tabs are greyed out except for the ones which I have clicked on and loaded.
3. Gmail is displaying oddly.
Please help me to get everything back to normal, or if it is not possible, please advise how to go back to the previous version of Firefox. Thank you.

• What should I do to keep icons from disappearing from the navigation toolbar every few days? These are icons I dragged to the toolbar from the Customize screen.

I have several icons on the navigation toolbar that I dragged from the Customize screen. Every few days these icons disappear. In order to get them back, I have to drag them again from the Customize screen. How can I keep this from happening? I'm using Firefox 8.0.1, but the same thing happened in earlier versions.

• Navigation toolbar cannot accept flexible space

I customize the navigation toolbar to include a flexible space at the end of the URL field. The purpose is to ensude that all the standard buttons are avaialble to the right of that field. I hit DONE and there is no change to the toolbar other then the 'X" ( stop this site) is missing and not accessible. The "x" become accessible only if I move it to the left of the URL. I can only get 4 radio buttons to the right of the URL??

Have given up and returned to FF 3.6.16. Like the FF4 concept but not ready for launch.

• I cannot get the STOP button to appear in the Navigation Toolbar, even after going through the suggestions; it will appear when the Restore Default Set window is open, but disappears as soon as DONE is clicked

The X for STOP loading the page does not appear in the Navigation Toolbar. If I do the right click, select Customize, Restore Default Set, it appears; click Done and it disappears. I have disabled the theme; disabled all extensions; reset the toolbar & controls; unchecked the acceleration. No luck.

Starting in Firefox 4, the Go, Stop and Reload buttons are combined in one button at the right end of the URL or Address bar. The button changes depending on the activity:
*green Go arrow when typing in the address bar
*red Stop ("X") button while page is loading
*gray Reload (circular arrow) when page is finished loading.
Separate buttons are possible:
#Open Customize Toolbar window by clicking Firefox button > Option > Toolbar Layout '''''OR''''' clicking View > Toolbars > Customize if using the Menu Bar '''OR''' right-click in an empty space on a toolbar and choose Customize
#Stop and Reload buttons will show separated between the address bar and the search bar
#drag the buttons anywhere on the Navigation toolbar
#*order Reload-Stop will combine into one button
#*order Stop-Reload will remain separate buttons
#*or drag a "Separator" from the Customize window between Reload-Stop and they will remain separate
#click Done at bottom right of Customize window to finish

• Bookmark Toolbar entries not showing up in blank space allocated for them under Navigation Toolbar.

Using Firefox 3.6.13 and 4.0b8. Both are not showing up my Bookmark Toolbar entries. The item does exist. I've used Firefox for years and that toolbar has always showed up. Confirmed that it still exists and was not inadvertently trashed by viewing item and listing when opting to Manage Bookmarks. The item is checked off for display in the menu drop-down (View-Toolbars-Bookmark Toolbar), the space where it would normally display my entries shows up directly under the Navigation Toolbar, but it is blank with no entries displayed.

In the View menu select Toolbars, and then Customize to open the customize toolbar dialog. With the customize toolbar dialog displayed, there should be an icon with the label "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on the bookmarks toolbar. If it is not there, drag and drop the icon called Bookmarks from the customize toolbar dialog onto the bookmarks toolbar. There will be 2 icons called Bookmarks, the one you want will have an icon that looks like a sheet of paper (it does on Windows, I believe it is the same on the Mac).

The "Go back one page" button on the Navigation toolbar doesn't seem to work on certain pages. On clicking this button, the focus stays on the same page and does not move to the previous page. The previous page does not appear even in the right-click context menu of the Back button. However, I am able to go back one page using Internet Explorer.

Try to open the right-click context menu of the Back button and see if you can go back further.
The current active entry in that list has a bullet in front of it.
If you hover an entry in that session history list then it shows the direction by adding an arrow at the left.
You can left click an item to open it in the current tab or middle-click or Ctrl left-click an entry in that list to open that link in new tab, just like you can with other links.

• Can I shorten the search bar in the navigation toolbar?

In the navigation toolbar, right after the settings icon, is a long search bar. Can I shorten this or get rid of it completely?

The location bar and search bar have a flex property that makes them take all available space on the toolbar. If you remove the search bar via View > Toolbars > Customize then the location bar will take that space. If you place the mouse pointer between the location bar and the search bar then you can change the relative wide of both by dragging the resizer left or right.

• After installing 9.0.1 twice on Win7, Firefox does not open websites in the navigation toolbar. Nothing happens when I put in any normal web address.

Firefox now takes an enormously long time to open now that I have upgraded to 9.0.1. The bigger problem is that the navigation toolbar where I enter web addresses does not function when I hit the enter key or by selecting the small arrow key right next to the web address. Win7 64bit, no detectable viruses.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• Missing Main/Navigator Toolbar JDEV 904

I would like to know how to reset the look and feel of the Main/Navigator toolbars within JDEV 904. When I select View -> Toolbars - the toolbar is displayed, but only as a bar of one pixel height :(
I have tried to resize/drag n drop/open/close/minimise/maximise this "single pixel bar" - but with no success.
Can someone provide me some pointers on resetting the JDEV gui environment please.
thanks
Miles.

Hi Miles,
This is a known issue with JDeveloper 9.0.5 or earlier when you've terminated JDeveloper forcibly (e.g. killed the process by ctrl-c, task manager or a forced shutdown in Windows) while it's exiting. The cause of the problem is that the ide.properties file in your system directory has been corrupted.
To resolve it, copy ${jdev.home}/jdev/multi/system/ide.properties to ${jdev.home}/jdev/system9.0.4.x.x/
This issue is resolved in 10.1.3 (toolbar items are defined in extension manifests, which not written during termination of the ide).
Thanks,
Brian

• How can i get rid of the Google Bar that is located to the right of the "awesome" bar on the navigation toolbar?

this is the Google search window/bar that seems to be automatically placed on the navigation tool bar. since Google is my home page, i don't want it to also appear on the nav bar.

Go to View | Toolbars | Customize. You'll see a panel appear. Drag anything you don't want in there including the Search bar. I don't use it either.
You can drag it back out again if you decide later you want it again.

• How to show bookmarks on the navigator toolbar using userchrome?

Hello, I am suing Firefox in the kiosk mode using R-Kiosk, and I have hidden the exit button, urlbar and searchbar in fullscreen using userchrome. I would like to put my bookmakrs instead of the urlbar, using userchrome - simple drag and drop does not work for me.

Did you try to customize the Navigation Toolbar and remove the location bar and search bar and move the Bookmarks Toolbar items to it?
View > Toolbars > Customize
You may need this extension if you want to leave the search bar.

• None of my installed personas include the navigation toolbar in the theme

Regardless of which persona I have downloaded, none include the persona theme over the navigation toolbar. Instead I have a grey strip from the default skin (just that one toolbar) that cuts through the middle of the theme. I have changed the tabs around from resting on top to the old position underneath without any result. I have tried switching on and off the menu bar option again with no result! I have also tried re-booting... still no result! Until I upgraded to FF4.0 I hadn't used persona's before. An interesting thing is that when I change to a normal theme the bar changes colour! It just doesn't like persona's!

No, what you're experiencing is not normal.
Try booting whilst holding down the Shift key - this will allow you to boot into Safe Mode, disabling third-party kernel extensions, etc. Your Mac will be slow to boot and will operate sluggishly. That's normal. If you can get in using Safe Mode then you have some start-up item that doesn't play well with Mavericks.
Call back,
Clinton
