Multiple finder crashes on brand new MBP
I just purchased the 2.53 GHz MacBook Pro two three ago and have had a ton of finder crashes and restarts. It's not been anything worse than annoying, but it's still very disconcerting to have the desktop disappear for a few seconds. At least it always comes back.
I can not reproduce the crashes reliably. However, they do seem to happen almost exclusively when I'm navigating through a network drive. The mounted drive doesn't have to be from the same machine, either. It can be from my Windows desktop (CIFS mount), my OpenBSD server (Samba/CIFS mount), or my Airport Extreme with my 750 GB Seagate FreeAgent Pro drive attached to it's USB port (formatted on this Mac).
The crashes don't seem to occur when finder is in the background; only when I'm actively using it.
I've also had a few other applications crash, but nothing nearly as much as finder (11 finder crash logs so far...)
Anyone have any experiences like this?
I've not yet run Apple's diagnostics, but will be doing so tonight.
Well, I got the Apple store to swap out the MacBook Pro due to a scratch on the display's case. The store Genius didn't know why the finder was crashing. He didn't find anything in his internal support system, either. I also spoke to an enterprise support tech, who just happened to be there for another reason, and he wasn't sure either. Both techs did say that the build of OS X for the new MacBook/MacBook Pro is different than their normal one. I assume this is due to the new hardware and new driver requirements.
They looked at the crash logs I have and weren't able to determine the cause. We all agreed that the hardware wasn't likely the cause, but couldn't be 100% certain.
Well, after the swap, I've already had one finder crash, and as such expect many more over time. I figure this is an OS bug and Apple will eventually fix it. My past experience with OS X (pre 10.5) shows that this feature should be stable.
The store Geniuses suggested I keep sending the crash reports to Apple, as I have been. So, I'm closing this issue and will just deal with the finder crashes for now. At least none of the crashes has actually brought down OS X.

Aperture 3 not working on brand new MBP???
Just tried to open Aperture 3 on my brand new MBP and I get this error message:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
I downloaded A3 from the Mac Store, I've deleted it and re-installed and still get the same message. My MBP is running 10.6.8.
Any ideas, hope you can help.
Thanks!Hi, Thanks! The solution on the Macrumors forum worked! A plugin manager issue!
I've copied the solution below for anyone else who may run into the issue.
Turns out it's a simple fix.
For those with the same problem:
1. Navigate to: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
2. Delete the PluginManager
3. Get a new copy of the PluginManager. (You can copy one from a friends macbook) or use the one hosted here: http://qvenon.com/files/PluginManager.zip
Thanks again!

Hey i bought a brand new MBP like 6 months ago and now it won't charge
i bought a brand new MBP like 6 months ago and now it won't charge. I tried using a friends MBP charger of the same year as my computer but it still says not charging at the top right corner of the computer screen where the charging symbol is. This problem just happened out of nowhere because it was working the day before then the next day it just stopped working saying it is not charging. I tired doing all of the suggested techniques to fix it but not luck.
This is the battery report is when my MBP is either connected to my charger or my friends charger which works perfectly on her computer.

Kernel Panic and a strange sound on a two days brand new MBP 17" i7
I just got a brand new MBP 17" i7 two days ago. Already had two issues:
1. On the first day while the computer was doing an automatic software update I heard a loud horn type sound coming from within the machine. After that the screen turned grey with the Apple logo and a status bar underneath. After that the machine returned to the "normal" screen and keep working.
2. Yesterday while trying to set up a mighty mouse the computer gave me the kernel panic screen. I turned the computer off and then on again and everything seems fine.
I contact Apple and they gave me two options for my peace of mind:
1. Take the computer to an Apple Genius bar
2. Send the machine back to the store
I own an iMac and a Macbook and this things had never happened before. I don't think it's normal for a brand new computer to do things like that.
This incidents took place within the first two day of receiving the computer, but maybe down the road or as I start installing programs like Final Cut Studio 3 or Office for Mac, things could complicate...
What do you recommend?Hi there.
The noise you heard and the status bar is usually the result of a firmware update being installed. Nothing to be concerned with and in fact will probably happen again if they just swap out the machine.
The kernel panic may have just been a fluke but you could try running the Apple Hardware Diagnostics that actually shipped with the machine to rule out hardware. If the tests come back ok then you could try to just re-install the OS.
Good luck. -
Magic mouse lag on brand new MBP
Hello,
I received my MBP 15" (Mid 2012) several days ago. But my Magic Mouse doesn't work very well with it. The cursor lags every several minutes to one hour or two, and lasts for several seconds to several minutes every time. I don't mean that the movement is slow - when it happens, the cursor doesn't follow the movement of the mouse very well, it seems 'jittery'. The cursor may "jump" to the destination 0.3~1 second after I moving the mouse. I tried everything I can do but the problem is still not solved. Here are what I've tried:
* Setting my router to 5ghz band
* Turn the mouse off and on.
* Turn the mouse off, replace the batteries to new ones, and turn on.
* Restart the computer.
* Remove the mouse from the list of Bluetooth devices, and pair again.
* Reset PRAM and SMC.
* Disable WIFI.
* Unplug everything in my room that has a wireless receiver, including Xbox, Apple TV, etc, and remove the batteries of their controllers.
None of the above works! However, I also have a Magic Trackpad which also uses Bluetooth but it works fine. I tested the Magic Mouse on my old MacBook Pro and it works without any problem. The distance between the mouse and the laptop is less than 2ft.
Mouse still works fine on my old 2010 MBP.
Brand new MBP 15", 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM.I had the same problem with my new Retina Macbook Pro and my Magic Mouse that worked fine on my previous 2010 Macbook Pro. At work I don't have a wifi network so I share my ethernet connection via wifi so I can get internet on my iPhone and iPad during the day. After reading this thread I tried turning off the internet sharing and it has cleared up all lag issues with the mouse.
Just thought I'd share my fix. Hopefully Apple can clear up whatever issues are causing this so I can get wifi back to my devices at work. -
How much does OSX take up on a brand new MBP HD?
Does anyone know on a Brand new MBP 128 SSD drive....how much is allocated to the OSX?
Thanks in advanceYou do need to install Windows twice - once under Boot Camp and once under Parallels - but you can legally use the same CD with the same licence for both installations. There is no need to buy two copies.
There is a program called Monolingual that will assist in removing the additional language support. Be care, as it has removed the components needed to run Rosetta for some users who were not as careful as they should have been.
Parallels has to run from within OS X, but some people have had success running Windows off of an external drive. I have not tried it, but the instructions can be found HERE. -
FaceTime problems on 3 brand new MBP 13 Retina, Apple has given in
Hi All,
After recieving 3 brand new machines (MBP13 Retina) in Dec 2013 and Jan 2014, Apple does not believe they can deliver a proper working brand new machine. They also won't look into the problem and hope i can accept this faulty machine.
Is that what Apple is turned into? A company that doesn't believe they can fix their own machines? Or do they not care anymore about their customers and their product?
The person I'm facetiming with cannot hear me when we talk at the same time. My (3 brand new, but all 3 faulty) machines will mute me, so the other party cannot hear me. It is back to the walky talky ages again, 'over'.
Since I'm a great believer of Apple, I cannot believe they won't fix this problem and just keep on selling and delivering brand new MBP 13 Retina machines that don't work.
Does nobody at the Apple company care anymore, is there no company pride?after a week of working on this problem the last straw was spending 3 hours being helped with this problem by 1mb.com after which time they asked me either to take out a years support at £129 or pay for help from a better qualified technician! As I only received my IPad last week I am going to send it back tomorrow. why doesn't Apple respond when it is obvious from all the discussions that there is a problem? Considering the price of the iPad I feel thoroughly disillusioned and cheated as well as frustrated by spending so many hours to no avail. this was not the only problem I've encountered but it is the one I've wasted most time trying to resolve./

Help!!! Brand new MBP with Santa Rosa Kernel Panics when started with external HD firewire 800 after 20 sec...
I don't know what it could be???
Do you???
Thanx
JayI'm actually having a similar issue and I don't think its related to networking at all.
I'm currently working in a corporate environment where we deploy pre-built OS X images to machines. I recently upgraded my images to 10.4.10 before we got our first Santa Rosa machine. This image was built on a MacPro and worked on all Intel Macs down to a MacMini CoreSolo. When I deployed my prebuilt image to the SR MBP, it caused a kernel panic immediately.
Further investigation revealed previous builds of OS X, including 10.4.10 upgraded from any other model Intel Mac will kernel panic the SR MBP. Going backwards the SR Build of OSX will not work on any previous model Mac, as any other build typically does, but causes severe graphical distortion, as if it does not have the display drivers for the other Macs.
To make a long story short, I think your issue comes from the fact that your external hard drive has an older build of OS X 10.4 than the SR MBP will run (even though you may have upgraded it to 10.4.10). Anyone who can corroborate my story with some more testing, please chime in.
I haven't found a solution for this issue yet other than keeping a seperate Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo image for my deployments. -
HT4796 System information shows files on my brand new MBP that I can't see anywhere in Finder?
I'm brand new to Mac's. Very good with PC's but don't know my way around these machines very well. Bought a brand new pro today and started to do migration assistant at startup to transfer my itunes music and films from my windows pc to my mac over my network. I left it for 15 minutes and the bar didn't even move (transferring like 60gb) so I thought screw this and cancelled it on my pc (can't cancel on mac) and that canceled it on my mac too. I started over to just do my music as that's all that I really needed (10GB). Again it took too long so I canceled and thought I'd do it later and continued to set up my new mac. I then went into about this mac and under storage it says I have a load of files (below) but I can't find anything in Finder so where are they and are they some of my files that transferred over before I cancelled or are they system files (seems excessive to me to have over a gig of audio)
Also when I go into finder and show all my files all I can see is this
so where are all them files?
Not tech savvy with Mac at all btw but I will be soon as I learn fast and am generally very good with computersNo, it is normal. As I have said, there is a large quantity of system files that come with your mac. 1.22gb of music covers default ringtones, alert sounds, etc. 5gb of apps covers the default applications included with your mac. The movies and photos are probably icons and other media included in applications. You really have nothing to worry about.
If this was a decade ago you would and should worry, however things seem to be progresively getting larger. -
This is the first time I've been disappointed with my mac. I've had them for years and never had any issues with any software.
The problem starts when I try to import photo's (both drag and drop and from a camera). It freezes for 5 secondsish- then shuts down. Everytime. Then I open it up again and tell it to import the photo's that weren't imported, and it crashes again. Its a cycle!
I was using Aperture on my old MB and decided to go back to iPhoto on my new MBP. Thinking this was a bad idea.
I don't have any 3ivx or whatever it is installed on my computer. It's 2 months old. Ive done a software update, everything is looking good. It's Version 9.21.
Here is the error report. Help if you can.

Why does my brand new MBP crashes all the time?
I have baught this mac 4 days ago and since day 1 it crashes. Everything freezes and i have to do hard reset. I cant even use the Force Quit Application. Its getting worse day by day and i am really frustrated about this. Anyone got a clue whats goin on?
return it for another new one. You shouldnt have to deal with this on a brand new mac.
-
Fact: Motion 3 crashes on the new MBP's. Anybody find a solution yet??
This is bad. I've had to reinstall the operating system 3 times and still no luck. Even the "Genius's" at my local Mac store are baffled.
Has anyone out there figured this out?Sweet! I cannot wait for mine to arrive this week. i actually went
to the apple store to check it out i can not wait for its arrival. i was very impressed
Im going from a 1.25ghz PB with only 512mb ram to the new MBP with 4gb
of ram. Talk about a major upgrade (yes!!) As a fellow web/multimedia designer
I know I will benefit from this upgrade. I really hope to be more productive
with having dreamweaver, photoshop, flash etc all open at once. A sImple RAM upgrade
could have solve some of my problems wIth my current PB...but this new machine is just
beautiful and durable and will really help me work easier. My current PB will be my side project and back up for now. 5 years I've waited to upgrade........ and glad i did. -

C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txtHi,
If the issue still exists check in safe mode. If the issue does not persist in safe mode perform a clean boot troubleshooting to find the conflicting 3rd party software.
Here is how:
Step 1 Safe Mode
1. Restart your computer.
2. When the computer starts you will see your computer's hardware being listed. When you see this information start to gently tap the F8 key on your keyboard repeatedly until you are presented with the Windows 7 Advanced Boot Options screen.
3. Using the arrow keys, select the Safe Mode option you want.
4. Then press the enter key on your keyboard to boot into Windows 7 Safe Mode.
5. When Windows starts you will be at a typical logon screen. Logon to your computer and Windows 7 will enter Safe mode.
6. Do whatever tasks you require, and when you are done, reboot to go back into normal mode.
Step 2. Clean Boot
You are required to perform a clean boot to find the program that is causing this and then disable or remove it.
Here is the procedure to do it:
Clean Boot Troubleshooting:
1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
User Account Control permission.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the
password, Or click Continue.
2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup items check box.
4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
5. Click OK.
6. When you are prompted, click Restart.
7. After the computer starts, check whether the problem is resolved.
If the issue is resolved check which third party is causing the problem, referring the link given below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
8. Also you need to uninstall and reinstall the problem software on your computer.
Reset the computer to start as usual
9. After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
