Multiple FTP locations on different drives in Server

I've been working to set up an older Power Mac as a location to back-up my ReadyNAS. The ReadyNAS has an automated function for FTP back-up to an FTP location on my network.
I've put two 1.5TB drives in the OS X server. I have about 1.7TB of data on the ReadyNAS. I had hoped to backup about half of that to each of the drives in the Power Mac Server.
However, I can't figure out how to set up 2 FTP Share Point locations, one on each of the drives, so that I can set the ReadyNAS to back up some of its directories to one drive and other directories to the other.
The data is actually mostly static. Once I do the initial backup the incremental ones (what's changed) will be relatively small.
Does anyone know how to set up multiple FTP share points on different OS X Server drives?
Thank you in advance for any enlightenment.

Thank you for the quick response. My problem is how to have the system "know" which backup job it is and switch (without user intervention) to the right Share Point and drive.
I have 6 shares on the NAS with ~760GB and would like to have those backed up to Drive 1. Then when the job starts with the 1 share with 800GB I want that to back up to Drive 2.
That's what I can't figure out how to do automatically. It seems like you have to manually go in and change the Share Point and then manually start the job.
Is there a way to do that in OS X Server without me getting involved?
Thanks again,
BflatBlues

  • Folder location in different drives

I'm not exactly sure how to phrase the problem but I'll try to explain.
I use a work laptop for may itunes (Dell, with XP). We have a central server that automatically backs up everything on the 'P' Drive of the laptop (work folders) every time I click it into the network in the office.
We have drive space for 'personal' use on the C Drive. This is where I keep my itunes folder, as if I try to keep it in the P drive it backs everything up to the server and clogs it up. The laptop won't shut down if that happens as it says I've exceeded my space.
Despite the fact that in preferences it says the folder is located in "C:\itunes" it keeps creating a 'My Music' folder in the P drive. If I delete this folder then when I open itunes again it is empty. So I have to drag in the folder from the C drive to update it, resubscribe to podcasts etc. As the folder unloads into itunes a new My Music folder automatically creates in the P drive, meaning it will all happen again! It is doing my head in!!
An additional irritant: when it transfers Apps into itunes from the C Drive folder it asks me if I want to 'replace the current google application' that is apparently already in itunes. How can it be in itunes already if it is empty and all I'm doing is putting the same folder back into it every time?
Why does it keep creating a new folder and why does deleting that folder delete my itunes library even though it is contained in a different folder on a different drive?
Not sure if I've explained that clearly enough!
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Despite the fact that in preferences it says the folder is located in "C:\itunes
Setting iTunes prefs -> Advanced simply sets the locaion of the iTunes Music/Media folder. It does not set the location of the iTunes folder, which the default location is \My Music\iTunes\. This contains the library files, which tells iTunes where/what everything is.
We have drive space for 'personal' use on the C Drive. This is where I keep my itunes folder,
Is this the \iTunes\ folder an in it is the iTunes library.itl file, iTunes music library.xml, iTunes media folder, Artwork folder, Previous iTunes libraries folder and a few other files?
If so, hold Shift and launch iTunes. Select *Choose library* and select the *iTunes library.itl* file in this folder.
iTunes will not create an iTunes folder in \My Music\.

  • Backup up with TM at 2 locations, 2 different drives - FYI

In case anyone is curious about backing up a laptop to 2 different drives with TM when at 2 locations ...
The Scenario: I work at home a lot, as well as at the office - using my MBP laptop in both locations. At times I also travel. Up to now I've used Tri-Backup and Super Duper to do backups. At home I have a Mac Mini with several Firewire drives attached, and this acts as a file server for my Mac and my wife's. We both do backups to these drives. At the office, and when I travel, I use a large portable USB drive for backups. I also have a portable FireWire drive to make a bootable copy using Super Duper and carry around with me, just in case. [I actually had my laptop's internal drive crash while on a long trip and ended up using the bootable drive to boot from the rest of the trip - a real life saver!]
Now with TM, I wanted to do a similar thing - here's the outcome, in case you're interested.
I originally set up one of the Mac Mini's Firewire drives for the TM destination on Saturday, and after a lengthy all-night backup, my MBP continued doing the every-hour thing on Sunday. TM worked like a charm!
Today at the office, I used TM's preferences to define the portable USB drive as the destination. It began doing a new full backup and got that done (a bit faster than using the Mini's mounted drive over the home's network). Then it began the hourly backup. Before going home, I unmounted the external drive. At home I remounted the Mac Mini's drive over the network and changed over to it using TM's preferences. It soon began doing an hourly backup.
BTW, as long as I'm home, when a network backup is done, the drive is unmounted automatically and later remounted without my have to do it. However, when I get home and change the TM's destination drive, I do have to remount the Mini's drive manually so the preference window lists it. Then I can choose it and the laptop uses the network drive until I leave for the office the next day.
I occurs to me that I now need to do one final test - if I create a new file while at the office, and it gets backed up during an hourly backup, will it get backed up at home to the other drive? Or will TM think it got backed up once (and assuming it hasn't changed since) and it won't back it up again?
    I'll report back.

This is a follow-up: Yes, TM can use two destination drives and keeps the backups straight.
I added a new file to the desktop and had an hourly backup take care of the file. Later, I switched to the second TM destination drive and did an hourly backup. The file was backed up again to the second destination drive.
So... If you use one TM drive to do backups at home or wherever using a remote mount and would like to use a portable drive to take on trips - you can set preferences in TM to use that portable drive for backups while on the trip.
And when you get home, you can go back to the network drive and have all new files created on the trip (that were backed up on the portable drive) re-backed up to the home drive. Sweet!

You could define one separate reports-server for each user, and configure the path for it in the reportsserver's conf-file. In the formsweb.cfg, point to a different env-file for each user, in that env-file, place thename of the users reports-server. retrieve it using TOOL_ENV.GETVAR and use it in the call of your report.

  • Import 800K photos (many duplicates) into Aperture from multiple folders in one hard drive.

I have a hard drive with 800,000+ photos in it, many are duplicates after I have made multiple back-ups to different drives over the years and then transferred all the photos to this new drive. The photos are located in different folders but are all in the same hard-drive. How do a import the photos in the easiest/fastest way? How will they get sorted, by date? Is there anyway that I could delete the duplicates without losing photos? I have many photos with the same file name (but from different cameras), tumbnails, edited photos etc.
    Very thankful for your assistance!

    Hi,
You can import photos from multiple folders.
Just click File >> Get Photos and Videos >> From Files and Folders
Now select the folders you want to import photos from (they should be at same level in the directory, say all folders in My Pictures) using Ctrl+Click, tick the checkbox for 'Get Photos from subfolders' if not already checked and then click 'Get Media'.
    Hope that will help

  • Creating same files on Different FTP Locations

    Hi All,
    My scenario is like this
IDOC which is coming from SAP has to be sent to two FTP locations (XYZ20082210.dat both same structures)...
Can any one please give me the best approach to handle this...
I know i can do this by creating in two ways
    1) Using 1:N mapping
but this also i dont think the right approach as i need to duplicated the same Message Type and rename into 2 Message Type and use in the 1:N mapping.
    2) creating 2 Message Mappings and two Interface mappings and two recievers ..
But this one XI processess the Mappings two times which is not good as we recieve multiple Idocs at a time...
Please suggest me a suitable approach for which way i can achieve by more Optmizing ...
    Thanks and Regards,
    sridhar reddy

    Hi Sridhar,
If you want to work out this issue using OS command, then you configure your receiver file adapter to place the file in one folder say 'Source' . Let your two destinations be Target 1 and 2 in the network. Paste the below two lines in notepad, edit the path names and save as .bat extension.
    xcopy D:\Source\.* "
    NetworkPath\Target1"*
    xcopy D:\Source\.* "
    NetworkPath\Target2"*
If you receiver folders are in Windows network :
You should run the above mentioned bat file to copy your messages to the destination in network.
Note :  XI can NOT execute a OS command/ shell script on the receiver FTP server. The OS Command for the file adapter only runs on the system in which the Adapter Framework is running.
If you receiver folders are in FTP Server :

  • New PC and want to move library to a different drive location from original PC

I've just built my self a new PC and would like to move my iTunes music to my new PC.
I know this is a pretty straight forward thing to do as I have done it on more than one occassion before without any hassle.
It's a little different this time though, I need to move the libary to a different drive from the default location as my C: drive is an SSD and can't fit my entire libary on it.
I've got my iTunes music folder backed up on an external drive, I thought it would just be a case of installing iTunes on my new PC copying my music to the drive I want it on and telling iTunes that this will be my new storage location.
After a bit of playing around I managed to get iTunes to see all my music again.
I'm having trouble getting it to find my cover artwork though and my old ratings and playlist count.
Does anyone know how to restore these?
Also do I have to have 2 iTunes fodlers on the computer? 1 in the stanard C: drive loaction and 1 where I now have all my music. Can I not just have it all on the 2nd drive?
If I copy the 4 libary files from my backup into the new folder it gives me my old ratings and playlist count back but loses all the artwork and most of the files have broken links to them.
Sorry if I've not explained what I am trying to say very clearly, thanks for any help.

In iTunes under Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn off Keep iTunes Media folder organized, then click OK.
Use Edit > Preferences > Advanced to change the media folder location to D:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media, then click OK. If iTunes asks to consolidate or move any files at this point say no or cancel.
Open the menu File > Library > Organize Library... tick Rearrange files in the folder "iTunes Media", and click OK.
In iTunes under Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn on Keep iTunes Media folder organized, then click OK.
Open the menu File > Library > Organize Library... tick Consolidate files, and click OK.
This should rearrange the media folder into the current structure with the minimum amount of physical file moves.
At this stage you should find that iTunes is now looking for your mobile apps at D:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications. Check the properties of a single app just to make sure. If all is well you can reclaim the space on C:.
If it were me at this stage I would now close iTunes, then copy the library files and album artwork folder from wherever they are on C: into D:\Music\iTunes then shift-start-iTunes and choose the library at D:\Music\iTunes. It is at this point that the library is now truly portable.
Having made that work I would then close iTunes, move the iTunes folder up to D:\iTunes and shift-start-iTunes to open it, but that's my preference.

  • Trigger Between two DB located on different Server

    Hi Everyone,
According to my project requirement I need your help to create a trigger on one table employee of my 10g DB located on server 172.128.1.62, which will trigger for any Delete, Update and Insert and update the same on its duplicate table located on different server(172.128.1.201).
    Eg:
Table EMPLOYEE (on 172.128.1.62) refer as A
    SrNo        E_Name      Salary
    1             Fizzz           5000
    2             Albert        8000
    3             John          6500
Table EMPLOYEE (on 172.128.1.201) refer as B
    SrNo        E_Name      Salary
    1             Fizzz           5000
    2             Albert        8000
    3             John          6500
Now If I update table A and change salary of John from 6500 to 7000 and delete Employee Fizzz from table A
Then I need a trigger to get fired and update the same in table B
After table A updated table B should look like:
Table EMPLOYEE (on 172.128.1.201) refer as B
    SrNo        E_Name      Salary
    1             Albert        8000
    2             John          7000
I already scratch my head but did not find anything, Now this is became very critical requirement, Please somebody help me to achieve this task.
    Thank you very much,
Fizzz. Edited by: Fizzz on Sep 22, 2011 4:36 PM

I would not consider doing it myself with triggers. It will practically be guaranteed that at some point in time your data in B will by out of sync with A.
There are several methods of doing replication. At least two technologies can be chosen from:
    [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10706/toc.htm]Advanced replication
    [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10705/toc.htm]Streams replication
Both can be setup in various ways ranging from simple two-database one-way replication that refreshes periodically (for example a fast refreshable materialized view) to multi-database multi-way replication of complete schemas.
We have had success with relatively simple materialized views for one-way replication of tables from one database to another. Read chapter 3 in the Advanced replication guide ;-)

  • Lightroom will not accept caches on different drives for multiple catalogs on different drives

I have three catalogs:  one for my work files, one for botanical pictures (>200,000 pictures on a network drive) and one for everything else (about 90,000 pics). (i have been forced into this because the keyword files for each set are very large and interfere with the keyword files for the other files.)   Lightroom has become very slow, so  I keep the catalogs on different drives, some ssd, some not.  I read that you should keep the cache with the catalog.  so i changed my preferences to do this.  but lightroom insists on using the last cache.  so if i switch to my work catalog from my botanical catalog, Lightroom still uses the botanical cache.  is there any way to fix this?

What cache are you talking about? which preference?
I mean, the only "true" caches I know of are:
ACR cache, whose location is fixed, and
Preview cache, which is *always* with the catalog (unless you go out of your way to link to another drive).
(there is also a "negative" cache, but it's not really exposed to the normal user..).
So, I'm assuming you are talking about the preference to keep presets with catalog, no? But then it still isn't clear what the problem/issue is, or what is the observation about cache usage: "lightroom insists on using the last cache" - what does that mean, how have you concluded it, what did you see?...
You're not confusing presets with a cache are you?
Is this the preference you're talking about?

Does anyone know how to install SQL on a different drive using the SQL4SAP.VBS script. Does anyone know how to change the destination drive in the script? We have run out of space on C!

In the SDC under 'Installation and Upgrade Guides' you can find an installation guide for installing SQL Server 2005 manually. And then you can choose whatever drive is suitable for you.

Yes, I think most of us do understand what open source software is. It sounds as if you don't. Here's some information:
Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is available in source code form: the source code and certain other rights normally reserved forcopyright holders are provided under an open-source license that permits users to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the software.
Open source software is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner. Open-source software is the most prominent example of open-sourcedevelopment and often compared to (technically defined) user-generated content or (legally defined) open content movements.

Yes, Tom Wu of Stanford wrote a paper on something called Secure Remote Access Protocol. It's a form of Asymetric Key Exchange and has nothing to do with hacking anything. It's actually intended to protect data.

My redo logs show that they are on the f: drive and the f: drive doesn't exist on the new server (recovery). so when I'm all done I get an error saying that it cant find the redo02.log. Any ideas?

no problem, thanks for the reply.
    Here's what I tried in the init.ora
    LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT=('F:\ORADATA\ORCQA08','D:\ORADATA\ORCQA08')
I didn't even create the spfile I figured I could do that later.
The datafiles alll go to the correct drive, here's my restore statement:
    run

  • CS5 install on case-sensitive file system - can't choose different drive (Mac OS)

I just upgraded my macbook pro to a new drive and 10.6, and chose 'case sensitive' HFSX, 'cause I'm a heavy command line user and wanted the maximum BASH experience.
I'm trying to install the CS5 demo to try some web design tools, and the installer immediately says "Installation to case-sensitive drives is not supported. Please choose a different drive location to install." So case-sensitive drives aren't supported; crappy but fair enough.
The error message leads me to think that I can just choose a non-case-sensitive drive to install to, but I never get a chance to pick one - I click on the installer and it goes straight to the error message.
So - how do I pick a different drive to install to? Am I just an idoit, is there no way to select a different drive, or will it not install on a system that even BOOTS from a c.s. drive, regardless of the format of the drive that CS5 is installed to?
I called the support number, and the poor fellow on the other end suggested I re-download the demo, and if the new download fails call Apple support to report my 'drive error'.
I'm hoping to avoid an entire backup-reformat-restore and lose CLI compatibility just to try some demo software.
    ch

That is part of why I would prefer case sensitive by default.   I know some server packages do the folding for you, same as some web servers do not differentiate between 'htm' and 'html' when people type in requests, but most of the time the backend server is going to be case sensitive and it is not safe to assume (or hope) that the service will fix things.  Compensating for mistakes is fine, but allowing such silent corruption is not a terribly laudable things and it encourage people be careless.
Every once in a while I do encounter someone submitting some work where their configuration values and file names do not match, and 'well my laptop silently fixes it for me since it does not care' is a poor excuse.  And if I sent broken filenames upstream or even worse commit them to be used on a server, that is a pretty significant professional failure.
Back to Adobe specifically, I have been trying the suggestion on poster mentioned in where one installs the Adobe applications to a case insensitive drive then copy over the installed files.  This does not quite work out of the box, but for reasons I would be hard pressed to believe are Apple's fault.
For instance the first error I encounter is the inability of Bridge to load:
    "@executable_path/../Frameworks/WRServices.framework/Versions/A/WRServices"
When I go look inside the app directories I can see that in Bridge the file has been named 'awrservices', but in Illustrator it is correctly named AWRServices.   So it looks more like a problem in whatever version control they are using.  The only way I can picture (which my adminitialy limited knowledge of what I am sure is a large and complex project with all sorts of legacy issues) that the installer toolchain factors in as a problem is if they have mismatches in their own scripts/packaging and have been depending on HFS's bad behavior to hide the problem.  I can understand not wanting to invest the time to pay down the technical debt on such an issue, but having such errors in your configuration causes long term headaches.
And I say this as someone who worked on just such a project, moving a software suite that had legacy code stretching back longer than Adobe has existed as a company.  This conversion included moving from a case insenstive filesystem to a case sensitive one and yeah, there were lots of problems that the old FAT32 system hid from us, but it really paid off over the long run to fix them rather than try to twist the code to compensate.
Having said that, if the problem is really that they do not want to go update their filenames (in version control or config files), then you can always add folding to your loaders.  I have had to do that a few times due to upstream people developing on case insensitive systems and sending data files with incorrect file names.  This is an old class of problem, and while I can empathize with the struggles project managers have trying to get approval for paying down technical debt, the problem never gets better on its own and usually gets worse.
Which is why I responded with so much grump to the 'I never needed it' argument since that is exactly the type of customer comment that marketing tends to point to in order to push such things off the schedule.  This is the type of thing where the customer does not really know what they want because they are already accustomed to broken behavior and most of the problems are hidden from their immediate view.  It is easy to cover up the limitations since modern UI (and their search capabilities) can handle this.
It is not just arcane developers stuff, and it is the same transition that people have made with things like spaces, quotes, and parentheses, where years ago users believed they had no need for them since they were not using them, but they were only not using them because they did not work.   Today try to tell a modern user they can not put (, ", ) or even ' ' in their filenames and they would rightly question why this piece of obvious functionality is not working since today they are used to it working and no longer automatically compensate for it.
I also find it ironic that by default OSX hides a number of file extensions, so from the user's perspective you can have multiple files with the exact same name displayed to them, so you can get display issues where 'foo' is the same as 'foO' if both have .txt, but 'foo' and 'foO' are not the same if one has .txt while the other is .pdf.  Add to this confusion cases like 'foo.txt' and 'foo.pdf" both being shortened to 'foo'.

  • Multiple Instances of OEDQ on a single server

    Hi,
I am running a Linux Machine (Linux 2.6.18-308.1.1.0.1.el5), on which I have the latest version of Oracle 11g release 2 installed.
I have an instance of oracle Enterprise Data Quality tool running on an apache-tomcat-7 server. Port 8080
Now I have a requirement of Installing another instance of OEDQ on the same server, but a different APACHE_HOME directory and a different Port Number (8081).
So the question is, Can we install multiple instances of OEDQ on a single server?
If so, what are the prerequisites to be maintained.
I did my bit of tries, but ended up having issues with some java errors.
I have posted the error message below.
    SEVERE: Context initialization failed
*org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'casemanager' defined in class path resource [conf/casemanagement.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'casedao' while setting bean property 'caseDAO';*
The complete Error Log in the Catalina.out file is pasted below.

    Hi,
Multiple instances of EDQ on a single server is technically possible provided the installer takes care to avoid port conflicts. It is not the case that there is a single port used by an EDQ server, for example.
For various reasons, it is not officially supported; attempting to diagnose issues on custom installations on Tomcat is especially difficult and we do not provide documentation on this. In general, the requirement usually comes up for Dev/Test instances (as there is no performance advantage of using multiple instances on a single server), where we would recommend the use of virtualization where this is a requirement.
    Regards,
    Mike
