Multiple Headphone Setup

Hi All I'm knew to Logic 9 and have not been able to find information on how to setup multiple headphones. I have an Apogee Ensemble and a Nady HA 1x4 stereo headphone amp. I'd like to send individual headphone mixes thru the ensemble and logic to the talent. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Multiple Headphone outs question

    Hi there,
    I recently asked for a bit of help getting my home studio setup sorted and I just need a bit more advice please!
    While I'm experienced in the live room of a studio, I'm still very much an amateur on the other side of the glass! Basically I'm just putting together a basic setup to track some demo's / ideas with my band. So far, I've got a Motu 8PRE interface running the drum and instrument mics into Logic and the outs from the 8PRE going to the monitors. My question is this...
    How do I set up multiple headphone outputs with independent mixes so band members can have a custom mix in their headphones? I'm having a hard time figuring out how this would work and have no idea what I need to do in Logic to set it up, and also what hardware I might need.
    If anyone could explain this, both how to set it up in Logic and the kind of hardware I would need that would be fantastic!
    Many thanks in advance

    1) Yes
    2) Sorry - I assumed that box had 8 outs too - I assumed wrong. You could get an additional multi-channel interface which accepts ADAT inputs as well as analog, which would give you great flexibility. MOTU makes several - better yet check out RME, Focusrite, and others. There are dozens on the market - it depends on your budget and future expansion plans.
    3) Yes, or a headphone distribution system - but again, your budget will determine this. Hear, Furman and Aviom all have systems. Or for much less, Presonus headphone amps. Depending on your physical set up, you might need a snake unless you're using an already wired recording room.
    Good luck.

  • Using multiple headphones

    I currently use logic 8 and a saffire pro 40 to record live music. What I want to be able to do is have 5 headphones- one to each person playing- with a different mix in each. For example, for the lead guitarist, I want his instrument louder in his headphones so he can hear clearly over the drums, without changing the volume on the recording.
    I have read of a few ways of doing this, but they all seem unnecessarily complicated and I can't get them working properly in practice.
    Any advice is much appreciated (pitched at a novice level)!
    Thanks

    You'll need multiple independent outputs, and send an independent stereo mix to each. The way this is usually done is to use sends to busses, and set up your alternative mix by varying the send levels on each channel to each bus.
    It can be quite complicated or messy if you really need total control over multiple headphone mixes, especially with complicated mix setups.
    Easier still is to have independent stem mixes, rather than complete mixes (so for instance, you could have stems of drums, keyboards, bass, vox, bvox, guitars etc so you could vary the stem levels for each mix.)
    In any case, you'll have to have an interface that supports 5 or more stereo outputs, and some way of connecting those line level outputs to headphones.

  • Multiple Headphone / Monitor Mix

    Just wondering how to get multiple headphone mixes?
    Running 2 (soon to be 3) daisyied FirePod's. They each have what seems to be 8 ins and 2 outs. I'd like to be able to give a separate mix for each output (like a soundboard with 4+ monitor knobs on each track). Anyone know how to do this?

    Thanks for your reply, and yes, I have the output selected in the channel strip.
    I acutally did get it working last night right before I called it quits, but still am having one odd issue.
    I set my channel strips up to send to the coreect outputs (backing track to mains, backing track with click to monitor mix), but the click kept jumping back to the main mix.  I would set the output to monitors, but when the tracks would play the click track would suddenly play through the mains, and the drop-down output selector would read "Main"?????
    I thought it was something at the Concert level, so I changed it there as well, but still no luck.
    Haven't ruled out that some of this has something to do with my Mbox Pro settings, but I see nothing there that would be causing issues.
    Ever heard of a output changing like that?  This happened repeatedly, I kept chaninging it to monitors, it came chaning itself back....crazy.
    Thanks again for the help!

    I just received a brand new iPod touch as a gift. But when I try to play music on it the speaker is extremely slow. When I plug in headphones I hear nothing. Tried multiple headphones. Tried a restore.  It never dropped or anything

    Try here:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    You said you restored the iPod. Was the restore successful, that is, it went though all the steps without errors?
    Try a restore to factory settings/new iPod if yuhave not doe so so far.
    Are you  using the headphones that came with the iPod? Are you inserting the plug fully
    Have you tried another set of headphones in the iPod?
    The speaker is not that loud.

  • My ipod headphone jack is only allowing sound in one headphone. i tried multiple headphones to make sure it wasn't the headphone but the jack itself. i have a ipod video 5th generation.

    Had you brought the same pair of headphones to the Apple Store with you and they worked there?  If you hadn't, the wire or plug on those headphones may have failed.  Try a different pair if you can and see if those work.
    Hope this helps

  • Using multiple headphones with apple tv and projector?

    Hi,
    I own a Barbers where we have an apple tv set up with a projector (through HDMI). It would probably be a good point to say this is attached to the ceiling
    As we're trying to take things to the next level, i was wanting to provide over-ear headphones on the waiting area for people to listen to whatever is playing on the screen.
    Currently, i have tried a 20m long audio jack (connected to the projector and a headphone splitter) which dulls the sound dramatically to the point of it being unlistenable. I have heard of splitters with amplifiers to boost the sound but i was wondering if there was another way?
    As apple TV uses airplay i have tried to research into this with little to no luck. As we are a fairly new business i'm trying to keep costs low.
    The guy from apple advised to buy sonos PLAY1 and said that these work with air play (which wasn't true so i had to send this back, later finding that only the sonos bar works with airplay)
    I like to think of myself as fairly tech savvy but this is starting to get out of my league. Is there any fairly simple solution to achieve multiple headphones that'll recieve the same sound without loosing too much volume?
    Rob

    Hi,
    That's because the ATV only allows one iTunes library to sync with it, you can however stream up to 5 computers

  • Multiple Monitor Setup for HPE-180t w/ NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 (only one DVI port)

    I am wanting to connect mutliple montitors via DVI connection to my HPE-180t.  My graphics card is the NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 which has 3 ports (VGA, HDMI, DVI) and does support mutli monitor display.  What is the best way for me to connect multiple monitors to my desktop?  I would like for all of them to be connected via DVI.
    Thank you so much,
    Angela
    ``````````````````````````````````````````
    old computer: HP Pavilion PU131AV / a1050y, Windows XP MCE, SP3 32bit, Nvidia GeForce 6600, Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 3.20 GHz, 2GB of RAM
    new computer: HPE-180t, Windows 7 Pro (64bit), Nvidia GeForce GT 220, Intel Core i7-930 quad-core CPU @ 2.80 GHz, 8GB of RAM
    What is the end goal you are attempting to acheive?  Are you looking to clone all three monitors or each monitor to be independent of the other (extended display)?
    This document covers how to configure the monitors in Windows 7.  I didn't see the GT 220 listed in the specifications, so I take it this is one purchased separately for the unit.  Most video cards require multiple monitors to be connected to a different port (to truly achieve a multiple monitor setup).  Since the card only has one DVI port, then the other ports (HDMI and VGA will need DVI adapters).  An example of an HDMI - DVI adapter can be found here.
    The tricky part will be using the VGA - DVI adapter as DVI ports are typically DVI-D which makes it a pure digital signal.  VGA is analog, so the adapter will need to be special if the monitor is using a DVI-D port.  If it is a DVI-A or DVI-I port, then a standard VGA - DVI adapter will work.  If it is a DVI-D port, you will need an active VGA - DVI adapter.  If it is DVI-A/I, then a passive adapter will work.  This is an example of an Active VGA - DVI adapter.  For that adapter, a VGA cable will need to be connected to the VGA port with that end connected to the VGA side of the adapter and then being connected to the DVI port of the monitor.
    Provided the video card supports 3 monitors, this would allow all monitors to have a DVI connection.  Keep in mind that the VGA port will still deliver an analog signal as opposed to the DVI and HDMI ports.  The card specifications do not really say how many monitors it supports, but it most likely does support three monitors.
  • Multiple RAID setups in one Xserve?
    Hi hope you can help me, we are a small architecture practice in the market for a new server and we are considering an Xserve and Xserve RAID system. I would quite like to set up the Xserve unit to use two of the drives in RAID 1 to mirror the operating system. My question is it possible and/or wise to have multiple RAID sets in the Xserve RAID unit? For example using four of the bays for 4x500Gb in RAID 1 (1Tb storage) for projects, and then using another 2 bays for 2x250Gb in RAID 1 as well for say Mail, maybe even another 2 bays for holding user home accounts. I understand that with share points this isn't strictly necessary but it seems to make sense to keep functions separate across hard drives for quick replacements. Or is this a lot to ask of a single RAID controller?
    Also how easy is to add storage to an existing RAID set-up without destroying the data?; say we wanted to increase the 1Tb project storage to 2Tb easily.
    Thanks for your help in advance.
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Andrew,
    I think you are over complicating you setup.
    If you do multiple RAID sets the you are really anti-optimiziung. If you asked "How can I get the least performance and lowest capacity out of a RAID?" then I would suggest three mirrored disks w/ spare per controller.
    You would have far better performance and capacity if you were to put two drives in the Xserve to mirror, then set up your RAID as RAID 5 across 6 disks with 1 spare (default config).
    With Disk Utility you can build multiple file systems on the RAID, so you could slice it up, but again that could be wasting space.
    When you get the RAID setup as one file system do not share the root. Set up sub dirs to share:
    /Volumes/Raid1 --your RAID root, aka mount point.
    /Volumes/Raid1/Mail -- mail
    /Volumes/Raid1/Users -- Home dirs
    /Volumes/Raid1/Projects -- your production storage
    /Volumes/Raid1/Backup -- Save disk images of your server and workstations here.
    And yes, changing the size of a file system means wiping it out and restoring from backup.
    Also consider the 750GB drives, it's a lot more storage for not that much more money.
  • Mountain Lion seems to have broken my multiple-monitor setup.
    I have a 6-monitor setup, which has been working fine for the last 5 OSX updates... but now, three primary problerms:
    - one of the screens is half-dead. I can mouse to it and the curor appears and moves around, but the screen is otherwise black and nothing will appear on it. I can't even set a background on it.
    - my primary desktop space which is 2560x1600 keeps reverting to 1024x768 when I reboot which of course re-messes up the desktop layout.
    - in fact, all of the configuration changes with respect to displays get lost with reboot... resolution and screen locations with respect to each other... Agh.
    I'm sincerely hoping many others are experiencing the same thing, so I'll know Apple is working on correcting the issue.
    .. anyone else?
    Well, I'll reply to my own message in case anyone winds up here and wonders what to do.  Here's what I did... I reverted back to Lion, restored perfectly from Time Machine to where my machine was a few days ago and I'm back in business.
    This is the first time ever I've had to revert a Mac OS upgrade, but the simple fact seems to be this is a bug and perhaps an update or two from now I'll try again... once someone else has confirmed multiple video cards are properly supported.
    Needless to say, my machine is completely factory parts... the cards came purchased with the computer and I haven't modified anything.  None of this wrong driver, IRQ conflict, DMA channel issues and whatever else I thought I left behind when I switched from PC to Mac.
    First time for everything, but perhaps Apple missed a QA cycle or two before pulling the trigger on this one.
  • Lightroom user - Multiple SSD setup & SATA III availability - suggestions?
    Ok, this is a convoluted question (in my mind), but I'm going to ask it anyway. Also, I realize that none of this is probably going to make a ton of difference, but every little bit helps.
    This is my current setup:
    -120gb Corsair Force GT - Windows 7, Lightroom 5 and CS6 (among a few other programs)
    -240gb Corsair Force GS - Lightroom catalog and working files
    -7200rpm Seagate HDD - Final copy jpg storage
    -Other specs: i7 2600k, 24gb RAM, GTX 560
    The SSD with Windows & Adobe software usually runs pretty close to 20gb free, so I'd like to get a larger & faster SSD to clone to. I'm thinking of getting a Samsung 840 Pro 256gb.
    So, assuming I keep the exported files on the HDD, I'd have the 3 SSDs (all fast, but the Samsung would be the fastest) at my disposal. Here are my questions regarding the SSDs:
    1) Would it be advantageous to split up the Lightroom catalog and the working files onto two separate SSDs? Or would you suggest keeping them together?
    2) Should I use the Samsung 840 Pro for the OS & programs? Or would a different use help to maximize overall performance?
    A second part to this scenario - my motherboard only has 2 internal SATA III connections (the rest are SATA II obviously). If I don't pursue a new mobo, which I'm not going to at this time, which of the two SSDs (and associated purposes) would you put on the SATA III connections?
    Thanks!
    Are you experiencing performance issues with your current LR System and in what areas (Develop module, Export, etc.)?
    Your current 3.4GHz  i7 2600k quad core processor should be provide good LR performance. There is also no guarantee that moving to a higher-performance  4 , 6, or 8 core processor will improve things inside LR. We've actually had cases in the LR forum where performance is worse with certain high-performance processors (6 and 8 core).
    Multiple SSDs don't add much LR performance improvement on a properly functioning system. Running all your SSDs on SATA III versus SATA II ports is unlikely to produce any "measurable" LR performance improvement since you're already at the point of diminishing returns.
  • HP ENVY 700-000t multiple monitor setup
    I have an hp envy 700-000t, and I want to setup up a second monitor. When the monitor is plgged in, my computer doesnt detect it, and it reads no signal. Is there a compatibility issue with my computer?
     Test your monitor on another PC to make sure that these components work successfully. Toggling the F4 key will electrically contact the second display. Press f4 to alternate the computer screen image between 4 display states:● PC screen only: View the screen image on the computer only.● Duplicate: View the screen image simultaneously on both the computer and externaldevice.● Extend: View the screen image extended across both the computer and external device.● Second screen only: View the screen image on the external device only.Each time you press f4, the display state changes. After each toggle, you will need to go to Window 8 setup multiple monitors and see if your second monitor is discovered.
  • Multiple extreme setup
    I am trying to set up a large area (school) using multiple extremes that are connected to the current ethernet network. Should each extreme have a different name or the same name. Is is easier to save the configuration from one and import it to another? I will have a total of about 8 in one building and I would like a seamless transition from one extreme to another if the laptop is moving. Suggestions?
    Welcome to the discussions!
    You'll be configuring what is known as a "roaming" network.
    +Should each extreme have a different name or the same name.+
    It will be easier to track things if you assign a different +device name+ or +AirPort Extreme Name+ for each AirPort Extreme, but after that each Extreme will be configured exactly the same way with the exact same wireless network name, security and password. Each must also be configured as a "bridge".
    +Is is easier to save the configuration from one and import it to another?+
    Might be a bit quicker using the export and import feature. Then all you should really have to do is change the device name or AirPort Extreme name for each new configuration.
    +I would like a seamless transition from one extreme to another if the laptop is moving.+
    The "roaming" network will accomplish that goal. Post back if you have additional questions or need more information on the setup.
