Multiple hierarchies with shared members

Hello,
is it just a common practice to have unique parents for hierarchies built on the same Essbase dimension, or it is a system level restriction?
Only in Hyperion Planning, or this is true also on Essbase level?
Is it right that only the leaf nodes can be shared members?
(automatic shared members are created on higher levels for parents with 1 child, so why other shared members not allowed?)
Thank you for your answer!

I'm not sure I follow your question completely, but for shared member rollups the lowest level of the shared rollup can be a level zero or higher member or another dimension. The requirement is that a shared member can not have descendants in the shared rollup, it would be the lowest level.
For example If I have the following primary rollup
Geography
East
NJ
NY
PA
West
Ca
OR
WA
I could have an alternamte rollup like
Bob's Total
NY (Shared)
West (Shared)
You see thar NY is a level zero member and West is a level 1 member but under the alternate rollup the are both level zero members

  • Multiple hierarchies with a shared higher level in OBIEE

    Hello all,
I'm trying to create multiple hierarchies for a shared dimension in OBIEE. I have gotten these to work in the past when each hierarchy for the dimension all shares the common “grand total” level at the top, but I now I'd like multiple hierarchies that share a common higher level that isn't the grand total level.
Here's what I'm trying to do with a Customer Geography hierarchy. I want to give the user the option to drill from the customer "Country" and go either into "Cities" or "States":
    Grand Total level
    --->Country level
    ------> State level
    ---------> Customer detail level
    ------> City level
    ---------> Customer detail level
So "Country" is the common parent of "State" and "City", and "State" and "City" each have" Customer detail" as the lowest level. The Admin Tool let's me build exactly this in my RPD (with no errors/warnings), but when I go to drill on Country in an Answers report, I don't get the option to navigate down to State or City; it just automatically drills into the underlying states -- never shows cities.
I guess I was hoping there'd be a pop up option to ask the user which path I wanted to drill down on (kind of like what shows up for multiple navigation targets in an Answers request).
Am I missing a setup step in my RPD for this multiple hierarchy? Is a shared higher level multiple hierarchy even possible in OBIEE?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

Thanks mma for the help. I thought I saw in your reply this link as well to RittmanMead, but it's not showing up now?
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/files/Advanced%20Development%20using%20OBIEE%20(ODTUG%202008).pdf
Anyway, on slide 37 of Rittman's presentation, that screen shot he has of Country, City, and State is exactly what I am attempting to do. I was hoping my issue would be a bit more straightforward than the recommended ragged hierarchy work arounds, but I may still have to do something like that in the end.
This issue just seems more simple than ragged hierarchies, because I start from the same level and end up back at the exact same level (instead of different destination levels as can be the case in ragged hierarchies). I don't know -- maybe my example is ragged as well.
If Rittman got that hierarchy in his screen shot on slide 37 to work like I'm trying to, then that would be perfect. :)

  • Load rule to update alternate hierarchy with shared members more than once

I have a aso cube with an alternate hierarchy that is not stored because the shared members appear more than once. Below is how my alternate hierarchy looks.
    Dept
    Class
    VolumeLevel
    StoreNum
where StoreNum is the shared member.
I build the cube using eis every weekend. The VolumeGroup changes everyday, so I was thinking of using a sql load rule to update the outline everyday. Assuming that the data and the aggregation does not get cleared. Is it possible to do it using sql load rule?
    Thanks,

You can check here if you are satisfying the conditions for creating shared members under the Hierarchy (refer to Alternate Hierarchies). Plz note that rules for shared members are different in ASO world.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_dbag/frameset.htm?acrtapdb.html
Otherwise there is no reason why you should not be able to create a shared member.
I am able to create a hierarchy using a sample file like this ->
    EN_MAIN, EN_500000
    EN_500000, EN_49999
    EN_ALT, C_500000
    C_500000, EN_49999
    ENTITY (Multiple Hierarchies Enabled)
    |-EN_MAIN (Stored)
    |--EN_500000
    |---EN_49999
    |-EN_ALT (Stored)
    |--C_500000
    |---EN_49999 (Shared)
The rule file has only "Allow Property Changes" on.
    Thanks,
    Sunil

  • Reporting on Multiple Hierarchies (with EvDRE)

    Hi all,
I have a question regarding multiple hierarchies in one dimension. So if we have one member that belongs to different hierarchies:
    1) can we access it with EvDRE? (I've tried it without success).
    2) if not, how can we report accessing the appropriate value (that is, accessing the appropriate hierarchy?)
I would like to be able to access its value and setting up an expansion based on both hierarchies.

  • ITunes on multiple computers with shared external library?

Hey guys. I thought I might pick everyone's brain here. I just purchased a MacBook Air with just 128GB SSD but that should be fine as far as local storage. I have an iTunes library that is over 350GB and it grows everyday so even the 256GB storage wouldn't have been enough for me. I have multiple computers and also have an iPod, iPad and iPhone. They all sync via my MacBook through an external hard drive right now and this is the only computer I currently sync to.
Since I have a Mac Mini as well as a iMac, I want to see if there is a way that I can wirelessly share the external hard drive with the itunes library in it and all the computers would be hooked up to it going off that one source and itunes library. I buy music from not only itunes so I import music all the time to itunes and also want to make sure that it will update to the computers that are connected to the library automatically as I wouldn't want any inconsistency's when I need to sync one of my devices to one of my computers.
I hope there is a way to do this, and if there is can you please help me out and explain or point me in the right direction at least to where I can find out about this?
It would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Just a thought. Should I somehow open iTunes on MBP2 using MBP1's Library file??
both Macs can access the same library file, however, only one at a time !
to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
or, you could have two separate libraries and keep those in sync using third party tools such as Syncopation, TuneRanger or SuperSync.
for purchases from the iTunes store, you could set up _*Home Sharing*_ - it can be configured to automatically transfer new purchases to home shared libraries.
Can I create a script to have MBP1 always save the iTunes Library file on the shared hard drive?
    no need.

  • Multiple facts with shared/non shared dimensions

    Hello All,
I have a scenario where we are using multiple facts in OBIEE. Fact1(Inventory Onhand) is joined to all shared dimensions, and Fact2( Forecasting Values) is joined to few shared dimesnions so the joins are like:
    Fact1 with Dim1, Dim2, Dim3, Dim4, Dim5, Dim6..
    Fact2 with Dim1,Dim3, Dim5
I have given the physical joins in the physical layer, later in the logical layer I pulled the fact2 in to to the fact1(multiple LTS) and then set the aggregattion levels for the non conformed dimensions. This was working fine for me but the customer was not happy with this. He doesnt want to have different levels of data in to a single fact.
What are the allternate possible solutions to implement this in the busines layer?
    Any ideas/inputs are highly appreciated.
    - Abhi

    Hi,
I have done the same as explained above. But here the issue is we are getting duplicate data.
For Ex: if i have one common dimmension attribute and two non confirmed dimension attributes with a measure. For non confirmed dimension have different value and for all these values the common dimension attribute is same. Then the common attribute will repeat for all non confirmed dimensions.so, here automatically the Corresponding measures also repeating.
    Common Attr non-Confirm Attr1 non-Cnfirm Attr2 measure
    123 abc xyz 1000
    123 bac yzx 1000
    123 pqr mno 1000
If you observe the above exapmple the confirm dime attr is same for both non confirm dime attrs, so the measure values also repeating here. If i see the data base i have measure data only for ABC record. For Remaining two records it is 0, but here the value 1000 is showing for remaining two records as well.
Please let me know if any one face this issue earlier.

  • Problem with automatic downloads on multiple computers with shared storage

I have a main Windows computer I use to rip my CD's, download Digital Copies from DVD's, buy iTunes movies, and sync my iPhone/iPad.  My iTunes library points to a shared location on a MediaSmart Windows Home Server as "\\mediasmart\itunes\music".  I have turned on automatic downloads on this computer so it downloads music/apps/books if I buy something on one of my other devices.
I also have iTunes installed on the above mentioned MediaSmart Windows Home Server to serve content to my Apple TV's throughout the house and I point the iTunes library to the same location as the above Windows computer - which is local to the MediaSmart server - as "d:\itunes\music".  I do this because the main Windows computer is also used as the main system for the house - quicken, AnyDVD, etc. and I don't want to impact performance on that computer if I decide to watch a movie on one of my Apple TV's.  Anyway, to avoid having to manually copy music and books to the MediaSmart server, I enabled Automatic Downloads.  In short, it works as advertised.  Now, if I buy a song on the main Windows computer it gets automatically downloaded to the MediaSmart server and added to the iTunes library in the Purchased playlist - which is exactly where I want it to go.  However, I just noticed last night that I now have multiple copies of those songs that are "Automatically Downloaded".
As an example, on the main Windows Computer I recently bought the song Gasoline.  It was placed in a folder named "\\mediasmart\itunes\music\kicking harold" and the song was named "01 gasoline.mp4".  Then....within a few minutes the MediaSmart iTunes automatically downloaded the song Gasoline and placed it in "d:\itunes\music" BUT named the song "01 gasoline 1.mp4".  I figured iTunes would be smart enough to actually check for the physical song before re-downloading it and creating another copy of it.
Is there anyway to fix this or some setting I am missing?  I hope the above makes sense.
    Thanks for any assistance.

Yes it makes sense, and no I don't think you're missing some obvious setting. I think iTunes needs to gain some optimisation in this area. For instance if I make a purchase on my iPad I see iTunes downloading an independent copy instead of letting the download complete on the iPad and then copying it over to the PC via Wi-Fi. Hopefully these issues will get tidied up as iTunes in the Cloud meets the real world, though it probably wouldn't hurt to add your feedback.

  • Question about upgrading iTunes multiple computers with shared library

    Greetings,
I have a question about upgrading to the current version of iTunes.
Currently, my household uses 3 Mac computers (2 Powerbook 17in laptops and a Mack Mini). We are all (currently) on system 10.4.11 (with iTunes 9.2.1). Between the 3 computers we have a shared iTunes music and video library on a networked high capacity hard drive.
We recently purchased an iPad. In order to make it easy for updates and to use media from our iTunes shared library I decided that we should upgrade the systems on our home computers to Snow Leopard. I have ensured that all the computers have at lease 2 Gb of RAM and adequate hard drive space.
The only possible problem I see is that one of the Powerbook laptops uses the old Motorola processor. (This is one of the last Powerbooks to use that processor.) I don’t think this computer can be upgraded to Snow Leopard.
My question is, if I upgrade 2 of the computers (and iTunes in the process), will I still be able to access the shared iTunes library using the older computer with the older system and iTunes? Will the upgrade process change the iTunes library in such a way that the one older computer will no longer be able to properly access that library?
Are there any other problems I might encounter having a mixed system/iTunes environment?
    Thank you,
    Tim

  • Install Arch on multiple machines with shared cache?

    Hi!
I would like to install ArchLinux on about 8 machines (all using the same arch). I thought that the best way to do this would be a central shared pacman cache on my server, so that I don't have to download all package twice and thrice.
The only problem I have are during the installation. Am I right, that during the installation Arch expects the packages to be mounted to /src/core/pkg instead of /var/cache/pacman/pkg. The other thing is that I don't know whats up with the /var/lib/pacman/{sync, local} folders. Where are they expected during the install process?
Are there easier mehtods to have a ArchLinux install with local packages?
    Thanks in advance

Personally I use a squid cache proxy to keep a copy of the packages that will be used across the various computers.
    The interesting sections of my /etc/squid/squid.conf file are;
    maximum_object_size 500 MB
    refresh_pattern abs.tar.gz$ 0 20% 4320 refresh-ims
    refresh_pattern db.tar.gz$ 0 20% 4320 refresh-ims
    refresh_pattern files.tar.gz$ 0 20% 4320 refresh-ims
    refresh_pattern pkg.tar.gz$ 10080 90% 43200 override-expire ignore-no-cache ignore-no-store
    The patterns will
    * Cache all pacman packages for at least a week.
    * Check the server if the database has been modified since it was last accessed.

Hello!I trying run calculations like this:Fix("01/10/2002") CLEARBLOCK ALL;EndFix;Fix("02/10/2002") CLEARBLOCK ALL;EndFix;Fix("03/10/2002") CLEARBLOCK ALL;EndFix;Some members maybe invalid, and the calculation ends without finish the outers. There's some workaround? Thanks in advance, and sorry about the terrible english! :)

True, CLEARDATA is very slow. Try this:"01/10/2002" = #Missing;"02/10/2002" = #Missing;"03/10/2002" = #Missing; All three should clear in a single pass. If it does not work, let me know.Good Luck,Tim

Could some one suggests the steps to build an Alternate Hierarchy in HFM via Shared Memebers. I am facing the problem while selecting options for "IMember" or "Idescendant"?
It is urgent, any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me that you are trying to create the entity again as opposed to re-using it from the Member List. Follow steps below:
#1 - Start Hyperion Financial Management Client (Start-->Programs-->Hyperion-Financial Management-->Financial Management)
#2 - Click on the Manage Metadata option to the left
#3 - Click on the Open File button (assuming you have an existing file)
#a - Browse and locate your metadata file
#4 - Click on the Metadata Item drop down box and select entity
#5 - If Parent 1, Parent 2, Co A, Co B have not been created, create them now. Place Co A and Co B as children of Parent 1.
#6 - click on the tab that says Member List (by default its on Member Attributes)
#7 - Locate Co A and Co B and drag them to Parent 2. This will add them to Parent 2.
#8 - Save your file of course
    Hope that helps.

  • Building alt hier w/ shared members

Hi all,I have a question about building alternate hierarchies with shared members. Here's my situation:* I have a location dimension containing all stores, their districts, regions, etc. This is the primary hierarchy and the stores (level 0) are not shared members.* I have several alternate hierarchies under the location dimension containing store groupings. These store groupings contain stores as shared members. What I'd like to know is can I build and update the alternate hierarchies using load rules? And does this require that I rebuild the primary dimension each time I update the alternate hierarchies? The alternate hierarchies (store groupings) change on a frequent basis. Hence, I'm looking for an automated solution using load rules.Thank you in advance.

Since alternate heirarchies are shared, if you try to just rebuild them, it will only add members to the existing heirarchies and possibly duplicate members in them. You will need to rebuild the primary heirarchy to get the alternate heirarchies to build properly. The way I do it is1.create a dummy file with one member in it. 2, Build a load rule that removes unspecified3. do a dimension build of this file followed by your normal build of primary and alternate dimensions as one build request, either through esscamd within a beginincbuild endincbuild routine or through maxl as ONE import dimension statement

  • Multiple shared members in ASO outline

<BR>I am building an outline with one primary and three alternate hierarchies within one of the dimensions of an Aggregate Storage (ASO) cube. All of the leaf members in each of the alternate hierarchies are shared members of a member in the primary hierarchy. The non-shared member is a leaf in some cases and a summary point in others. All hierarchies are stored. <BR><BR>When I try to save the outline, I get a long list of verification errors. For the stored members to which the shared members refer, Essbase is complaining that "This member has multiple copies of same shared member in at least one stored hierarchy. For the alternate hierarchies, Essbase complains that "This stored hierarchy has multiple copies of same shared member. Remove extra member or change hierarchy to be dynamic."<BR><BR>However, I did a find on a handful of the members that Essbase was complaining about and in all cases have found only one instance of each shared member in each alternate hierarchy. The same shared member might appear in two or more alternate hierarchies, but I have not found a case where it appears more than once in the same hierarchy.<BR><BR>I have also ensure the following:<BR><UL>The primary hierarchy occurs first in the outline, so non-shared members always appear before any instances of any of the shared members.</UL><BR><UL>There are no shared members in the primary hierarchy.</UL><BR><UL>All members, non-shared and shared, are in the same dimension.</UL><BR><UL>Non of the stored hierarchies contain both a non-shared instance and a shared instance of the same member.</UL><BR><BR>I have tried making the alternate hierarchies dynamic, but query retrievals are so slow that they're completely unacceptable to the client.<BR><BR>Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Is there a solution to this?<BR>

I heard back from Hyperion Tech Support again. Turns out it's not a defect after all. It's actually a subtle technicality in the restrictions on shared members with ASO. The first restriction, which is explained in the outline verification error message, is that you can only have one instance of a shared member within a given stored alternate hierarchy. The second restriction is that you cannot have any shared members within a given stored alternate hierarchy where the non-shared instances of the members are ancestors/descendants of each other. Unfortunately, when this restriction is violated, EAS gives the same error message as it does for the first restriction, so it's a bit harder to debug.<BR><BR>Hope this saves someone some grief.<BR>-Silvester

  • Moving shared members in EIS

I have two alternate hierachies in the customer dimensions with shared members on STORE at Level 0. And I need to perform incremental outline update and data load on the nightly basis using EIS. What happened is if a store is moved to a different parent, EIS can only added the store into the new parent, without deleting the older one, i.e. EIS can't move shared member to new parents. Thus causes us a wrong calculation. Does anyone have a technique or tips to move members on shared alternate hierarchy in EIS?Thanks.Sam

You have the option of "Deleting the Members First" when you run a Member Load.Only the outline is affected, the data itself remains unaffected until you run a calc. Then it will roll up properly.Good Luck,Tim
