Multiple image/version name search

At times customers send me a list of their favorite shots in Word or Excel. The list contains the image numbers from my Nikon D200. I would like to copy and paste the entire list somewhere in Aperture so it can gather these images for placement in a book. Is that possible ? If so, how.
Thanks for any help.

Can't be done automatically, you'll have to select the images manually, if you like to see it in future versions of Aperture, use Apple Feedback here:

  • MDM: Search for images in the dialog window "Select Multiple Images"

    Hi,
are there possibilities to search for images in the dialog window "Select Multiple Images" (if you want to add a image to a record)?
I know the possibilities to sort the images and the possibilities with the data groups. But I don't know a possibilities to search for a single image.
    Thanks for any help!
    Best regards, Melanie

    Hi,
From the question you asked; its not much clear what your clear requirement is; but if its what i get then the solution is:
How is that you want to select the image? With Image view or By viewing the image itself ? For it when u select "Select Multiple Images" you can find two as "Available Images" and "Selected Images" and in between u can find some buttons, after "All, Add, Remove and None" you can find two buttons "Thumb Nail" and "view Details". I think you can use these buttons for your solution.
When you select "Thumb Nail" button you can see the image in real and select the image.  OR you can select "View Details" and check the file name or path or the requirement as required.

  • Copy Settings to multiple images - STILL A NOT WORKING AFTER MANY VERSIONS!

I have reported the problem of pasting settings to multiple images for many versions and this simple bug is STILL present in LR4!
In develop module, make changes to an image, click Copy button, select settings to copy.
Now, select a range or a number of images to which you want to paste the settings, click Paste button.  Guess what?  Only the first image gets the settings!
This functionality should work and is even documented in the manual.  There are other ways of copying settings but I can never remember how to do this.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a genuine bug that only seems to affect a few people (I did a web search for V3), or do people just not use this function?
Please developers, fix this bug if it really is a bug!

    Thanks Dorin for the information.
I guess I am just frustrated that the program does not work the way it is documented.  There are two very prominent buttons, Copy & Paste and they don't work as documented or as you would expect them to.
With sync you have to navigate menus to do what one click of the mouse should accomplish.  All I want is some acknowledgement from Adobe that this is a bug and for it to be adressed.  As a long-time IT person I know this would be VERY easy to fix.  If it cannot be fixed then update the documentation.
Oh well, enough said.  I still love LR!!!

  • Can I search for multiple images simultaneously in Aperture?

Can I search for multiple images simultaneously in Aperture?  For example, search for 'Image2.jpg, Image3.jpg, Image5.jpg' by image name, out of different folders?

dusan -- your best procedure is likely to be to type the first file name (without extension) in the search field of the Photos View, and then mark that file either with a Flag or a color label.  (You might clear all Flags prior.)  If you have a lot of images or a slow computer (or both ) you may have to wait a few seconds.  Aperture will show "Loading ... " on the left side of the tool strip while it churns through your images.
Then hit backspace twice, and type "60".  Mark the file found.
    Repeat with variations.
Then go to Flagged view, or filter the whole Photos view for the color-label you used.

how to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

Within Aperture you have Images, which are constructed on-the-fly from two files (the Master and the Version).  You get an image-format file _only_ when you export an Image.  You select the file name (usually a scheme) when you create an image-format file (that is, when you export).  Look under "Aperture→Presets→File Naming" for built-in Presets.  You can, of course, create your own or customize any provided.
The Preset is applied to only the file newly created by your "export" command.  It is not applied to the Image in Aperture (unless you rename your Versions or your Masters).

  • Can I search for a LIST of version names?

I often have clients resent me with a list of photos they want. Sometimes this is over 100 photos from a couple thousand. Currently I just cut and paste one by one the name of the image into the search box and then mark that image as a select.
Is there ANY way (fingers crossed) to expedite this? I WISH I could past a list of file names into the search box and get the list in return. Can anyone offer better advice for how to make this process more efficient?

Say I have a project of 300 images and want to find say 10 images.
While I can do this visually one at a time and add them to an album, I will be doing this fairly regularly.
I'd like to give it a comma separated list of names and then click to create an album.
I don't think this is possible at this time..

  • Delete Versions/Delete Master and All Versions w/ Multiple Images Selected

When I select multiple images from a project (one image has a thicker white line around it and the other selected images have a thinner white line) and then select Delete Master and All Version the ONLY image that gets deleted is the one with the thicker white line. Whereas if I were to choose Delete Version all of the images are deleted?
Am I not able to perform Delete Master and All Versions on multiple files? It is not working for me.

  • Images with same version name/numbers getting mixed up...

I have an album of ducks I photographed. I just noticed that a couple of the last ones are "weird"
The thumbnails are of the ducks while the images are of other birds I photographed... i cannot figure out what is going on... but something is messing up inside the app... I was going to delete the album but I can't now because a number of pictures are using the same version names...
i hope this makes sense and someone can make sense of it for me.

Your Previews are rattled. A whole range of options here:

Identical Version names should have nothing to do with this (but -- hey -- always learning).

You're question is hard to follow. Are you looking to rename your master files to the version name? Or are you looking to do something with IPTC caption field and the masters?

  • File name, filename, image name, version name???

    Hi guys,
All above terms are used in Aperture 3 Help. When I go to the Metadata Inspector/General the only field available is Version Name.
Do they all mean the same?
    Thanks,
    Raphel

Aperture is a database.  The core record in Aperture is the Image.  The database is a list of Images, with a whole bunch of data about each Image stored alongside the Image as one record .  (You can get some sense of this by clicking Photos at the top of the Library tab of the Inspector and changing to List View.)  Apple doesn't like the word "database"; Aperture databases are called "Libraries".
Every Image has a Master.  The Master is a file.  It is the image-format file that you imported into the Aperture Library.  Those files have names.  That is refered to as the File Name.
When the User Guide needs to indicate the inclusion of a file name in a field or as a variable, it is written as "filename".  This is, I'm pretty sure, now standard practice (e.g.: "Insert the file name in 'filename'.").
The Image is created from a Master + Version pair.  The Version is, literally, a text file of proprietary instructions that tells Aperture how to adjust (hence "adjustment" in Aperture, and not "edits") the Master to create the Image.  Every Image has a Version (and a Master), but the Version of the first Image created from the Master has no instructions (i.e.: "Don't make any adjustments") and is treated as though it is invisible.  The default name of the Version is the file name of the Master.  The name of the Version is used as the name of the Image.  You can use any name you want for your Versions.
On the Metadata tab of the Inspector you can have shown:
    - the Version Name.  It is editable.
    - the File Name.  This is the file name of the Master file.  It is the name used by your OS to reference the file.  To change it, you must go to "Metadata→Batch Change".  You should never change the file name of any Master except through Aperture.  It is possible to use Aperture completely and never change a Master's file name.
To see both of the above in one Metadata view, change the Metadata Preset (using the drop-down) to "File Info".
Rest assured this is a confusing topology, and is not spelled out anywhere I have seen.  This is just what I understand from using Aperture.  (If anyone knows better, please speak up.)

  • Just the Image Number, Not the words "Version Name" prefix.

When making a contact sheet, is it possible to just have the image number under each photo and NOT the words "Version Name"?
    Thanks.

All images are inherently rectangular. You can not save the image without the transparent canvas. However, you can use CSS on your web page to cause otehr items such as text to encroach on the area of the image.

  • Show file size in Cell Extras? (Either Compact or Expanded, or anywhere in Grid for multiple images simultaneously)

I've searched and seen several suggestions saying to change Metadata to Exif & IPTC to see the file size, but that's for only one image at a time. Under Cell Extras (both Compact and Expanded) I see options for Megapixeps, Cropped Dimensions, File Name, Extention, and a bunch of other options, but no file size. I suspect this is because file size isn't a metadata field and simply a file attribute (that may be incorrect, but regardless...) is there really no way to have file size visible in the thumbnail cells in Grid view in the Library? I'm trying to reduce redundancy and viewing file size of multiple images at a glance based on my Library Filter criteria would be a huge help. Thanks to anyone who can help sort me out!

Sure. I have a catalog with 22,000 images indiscriminately imported from hundreds of folders and multiple drives from this year alone (partially lost a RAID array to a corrupt index and recovered a dump of the files so I'm terribly disorganized juggling emergency redundancy backups wherever I had 50 gigs here, 100 gigs there, and working to clean up and organize my photos one year at a time ), including raw, jpg, websized jpg, png, tiff and psd (flattened and with layers/adjustments) and am now trying to identify my keepers and delete unnecessary files. I have 22 terabytes of personal files and photography spread chaotically and while I now have proper discipline when saving variants, I didn't always and want to remove unneeded, rejected, and duplicate images. I don't expect to be caught up for months or longer depending on my free time and sanity. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as keep the raw delete the rest. Sometimes I have multiple PSD documents with different version names and edits, sometimes with multiple layers, and I have to use a variety of information to identify which one is indeed the correct one to keep...or open them all/both.
Often, file size can be an indicator for me and aids in making the decision more quickly. For instance between 2 psd files with the same Megapixles I'm often able to identify the flattened version vs the layers intact version by file size if it wasn't properly noted in the filename, which unfortunately due to a combination of bad or evolving practices and being tired or rushed happens more often than I'd like to admit. One I just came across that brought me here searching was 3 similarly named and appearing PSD files of a panorama, all with the same MP/dimensions. One was flattened, one was the original stitch, and one was flattened with a few masks, adjustments, and an extra layer, and being the one I'd want to keep. Filesize helped me quickly identify which was which. Also sometimes dimensions are misleading, like when a panorama is first created and uncropped, its dimensions are larger, but a tighter cropped image with multiple layers and a larger file size indicates to me that it is newer and more finished, even though smaller dimensions typically indicates a crop and may not be a 'master' copy. Additionally, 2 images with different names but the exact same file size are very likely duplicates (at least in my workflow) but 2 similarly looking images with the same dimensions could be retouched/not, sharpened/not, have noise reduction/not, and I'd have to view them in detail to determine if they were in fact identical. For my purposes (since these are my personal fine art images & I have the raw files incase I occasionally mess up) I'm often willing to trade an educated guess for my time. Seeing identical file sizes on 2 apparently similar images is good enough for me to delete one.
I can select them individually and check...it's not a horrific problem. But it would save me time so I was hoping I had simply missed how to view that. My reasoning is 'why not' have the option available with all the others? Me personally, I don't care about megapixels when I already have the dimensions, that's just redundant and honestly much less helpful than LxW. File size would be an additional tool I would use, though. There are other examples but the main thing is that I do spend time checking filesize, and specifically when comparing multiple images, so having it displayed in the cell would be a time saver for me.

  • Is there a way to add multiple images at the same time to Keynote 6.0?

I just brought keynote after searching online about adding multiple images to a presentation all in one go - I couldn't do this on the powerpoint version I was using but there were multiple references on google to being able to do this on keynote. I purchased it and now can't get it to work! Any ideas anyone? Thanks

Do you mean like dragging in multiple images and having one image go on each slide? If so, you just drag the images into the Slide List on the left instead of onto the slide. From this prior post.

  • Bridge CS4 won't output to pdf multiple images with same filename

Hiya...my googling efforts have thus far failed!
I've got CS4, and in Bridge, I created a New Smart Collection to find all filenames in a folder containing "." or ".jpg" - which in turn searched through all the subfolders like what you used to be able to do in Photoshop CS3.  Very simple stuff, but all the images are jpg's, but in multiple folders (I don't want to move them out of the folders, as the files came from an external source, and there are heaps of folders, and I don't want to pdf each subfolder seperately as it will take forever).
The problem is that some of the files have the same filenames (again I'd prefer not to rename, as it happens a lot on this project, and they are all over the place).  So whilst Bridge will show the thumbnail images correctly in the content tabbed screen in my New Smart Collection, but once I've done the Output to PDF thing, for example, instead of showing both different images it has pdf only the first image but repeated it twice.  And this happens multiple times throughout the pdf, the more times the same filename is used, the more times the first image gets repeated.
I know that it is messy to have multiple similar filenames, but why can't bridge just place the image anyway?  It allocated a space for it on the pdf and does show it in bridge, it just doesn't seem to survive the transfer to pdf well.
The only other thing that I have done is use the below link (which was posted on another adobe forum thread) to create a custom pdf output template (nothing too fancy, just number of rows / columns, size, font etc).  But I've tried using the standard bridge templates and it does the same thing.
    http://www.proficiografik.com/2009/08/03/save-custom-pdf-output-template-in-adobe-bridge-c s4.html
Any help would be appreciated...even if to tell me that I am being unreasonable!
    UPDATE 16/11/09
Just to let you know that I seem to have resolved the bug inadvertently with one of the Adobe updates. The below is the link for the AdobeOutputModule-2.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.zip which was released on 2/19/2009 - which allows for headers & footers to be placed in the Ouput pdf. I finally installed it today, and everything seems to be working fine now (i.e. I can pdf multiple images with the same filenames and the pdf will actually show each different image rather than repeating only 1 of the images).
Must have been a fix installed in the contact sheet templates that get installed with the update - not sure why the original version was corrupted, but I've left that with the Adobe guys (I submitted a bug report - and they were able to replicate the problem but hadn't fixed it as yet).

When I click import from disc I am asked to choose a disc and then I get this message:
The following photos will not be imported because they are already present in the catalog. To see these photos in the catalog select 'Show in Library' (the import will be canceled).
This is followed by a long list of images. If I click 'Show in Library' I can see all the images with the same filename. And then they start to automatically write over those images with images from the disc. However they keep the same metadata and keywords from the previous images. If I click on Import and deselect the "don't reimport suspected duplicates" box, it imports only the images that don't share filenames and none of the images that do.
Is there a way of setting the "Don't reimport suspected duplicates" box in preferences?

  • How to create a pdf file from multiple images ?

    Dear All,
I want to create a SINGLE page pdf file from two or more page size images that are combined to make a single page pdf. Again, this question is on pdfs that are made out of several, atleast  two color images and a black-and-white mask for one of them.
I have such pdf files from an unknown source (the producer is edited out) whereby there are three tiff images, obtained using the well known pdfimages extractor.
When I want to make a pdf out of tiff or png or other image formats, I right click and tell Adobe Acrobat to make a pdf.
However, I dont know how I can give a command to select say,  three tif images and specify which is the mask for which and then join  them in a way that I get the pdf from the composite of the two color images and a mask for one of them.
    Please help me out.
I am a little familiar with the pdf structure skeleton and when necessary, fixed xref tables in one of my favorite editors. A few years ago, I also wrote a bunch of javascripts to make some annotations and needed some automation and used some itext type libraries. However, I need your help in this problem as I am now rusty and forgot some of what I studied to solve my earlier problems. This is a new problem for me. Gentle hints from you would be very nice to help me in this problem. Please specify if necessary what manual and pages to read. in the pdfspec.

Well, ascii format or uncompressed format that is human readable. I
know its a binary file, but human readable ascii version of it.
I hope you can give me some stanza and various other approaches
possible so I can select or combine things for myself. I see only a
