Multiple IMAP-accounts in Mutt.

I have been struggling with Mutt for a while now. It works as it should when only working with one IMAP-account, but if I add more, only the last one is active. I have searched the manual about it but it is quite cryptic for me.
I can use offlineimap and manually change the directory within Mutt, but if I connect to the imap-servers directly I can't see any way of changing account...
Any ideas?
/F

Anyway, you can do the same also with isync/mbsync, where you can either list explicitly the folders you want to sync, or catch the wanted folders with patterns.
Nowadays I actually use mbsync, because it is more protected from deletion (I do never want to delete mails from gmail!), it allows you to force pull or push syncs and gives meaningful error messages (being written in C instead of python). I uploaded to the AUR a version of isync with some important patches from fedora.

  • Mail.app handling multiple IMAP accounts

    Hi,
I find it really hard to use multiple IMAP accounts with Mail.app. The way it displays IMAP accounts is really ugly and very confusing. At best you have one Inbox which displays all the Inboxes on your accounts. Then you have separate drafts, sent, trash treelike view for your accounts "special" mailboxes and then again some-kind-of-tree-view of your IMAP account - which by the way doesn't always even display! It depends if you have checked save trash/sent/junk/etc. messages to server or something which really doesn't have any logic in it. Also it doesn't display all the folders like Inbox (which is combined mailbox at the top which I explained). Then you can drag mailbox from your IMAP account to the "panel" which I think only copies and is not shortcut.
Could you please do something to this instead of adding some ugly templates for sending your holiday pictures to your mom. I think that Mail.app should be developed to more "professional" usage, rather than develope features that teaches people to use their mailclient as a personal spamming tool for horrible HTML-mails.
ps. I'd also like to turn off that stupid embedded-attachemts. Attachments are attachments and not a part of the email content thanks.
    -edit-
you can see a screenshot of my Mail.app at work. I use more mailboxes at home and it's way more ugly. There should also be somekind of "don't display" -options as it displays some horrible Exchange-folders also.

  • Mail - Multiple Imap Accounts - Sent Folders

I have multiple Imap accounts set up in my mail.app. I know of the feature to set the the sent mail folder. But what do I do with multiple imap accounts and multiple sent folders? When I would like all my accounts to have the correct sent items.

Not every IMAP server requires that you use that command -- if not needed, then the options for that command will be gray when you select an individual Sent mailbox from the Sidebar. Are you saying there is no black triangle beside the Sent icon, even though you have sent a message from the account?
Control click on the Inbox of the second IMAP account, and choose Get Account Info -- there, under the Quota Limits tab you will see all the folders that currently exist on that IMAP server. What do you see?

  • I have multiple imap accounts on thunderbird, but the last two accounts will not show messages in the inbox.

I have 7 imap accounts some with several subscribed folders. One is a gmail account. The others are from a personal .com. Everything works fine, including the gmail, except the last two accounts added will not sync the inboxes. The sent boxes sync fine, but I see no messages in the inboxes of just the last two accounts added. I know the imap server is working properly as the messages received to these accounts can be viewed via webmail, and the inboxes sync just fine on my email on my phone. I have been over and over all the settings from account to account. What am I missing. Please help.
    Thank you.

  • Multiple IMAP accounts on same domain - collisions?

i am migrating to mail.app (from entourage) and starting to set up several of my mail accounts, i am also switching many of my accounts to IMAP.
I currently have three IMAP accounts from the same domain in mail.app (admin@, need@ and offer@) and it seems as if every time mail checks the server there is a problem with one of the accounts. but it is never the same account, and not always one... every 5 minutes (currently) when mail.app checks at least one of the 3 displays an alert. setting it to "online" works every time.
Is it possible that 3 accounts are too much at once (from the same domain) the 3 other accounts on different domains always work. Is this a known issue?

I've got the same problem - and maybe it's not the answer You want to hear .
I've solved this problem by changing to Thunderbird. I didn't find the correspondig config switch in Mail.app; in Thunderbird I can reduce the number of "persistent connections" to the mail server. It seems that my provider (he uses PLESK) has a limit of simultanous connection to one server, so my 4 Email-Accounts can not be reached at the "same" time.
If I reduce my accounts to 2, I can reach both of them.
Maybe someone else can tell You (and me) where to change the settings of Mail.app; I gave up!

  • Multiple IMAP accounts + automatic retrieval

    Hello,
I have a 6790 (surge)... I was getting automatic email w/o any problems. But then I added another acount, and bang, it just stoped checking email.
Now I have to go into the inbox, and tell it to get the emails... very annoying... I want my automatic retrieval back!
    Has anyone encountered this issue?
    Thanks,
    Alfred

    Solved:
For incoming mail, I had switched the connection type to: default... if this is set, it won't work. You need to set it to an actual connection... in my case, I choose "Rogers Internet" and it not works, for both accounts.
    Cheers

  • IMAP accounts consistently offline

This is more of an annoyance than anything. I have 3 IMAP accounts and they always, always show the caution triangle. Clicking on it gives me the Alert box with:
"The server error encountered was: The attempt to read data from the server "xxxxx.xxxxx.com" failed."
But I can send and receive email just fine. Wondering why this happens?

OK gang -- I have a solution to try for this.
The problem -- at least in my experience -- is using a Apple Mail program to access IMAP accounts served by PLESK.
The root of the problem is the number of simultaneous IMAP streams originating from a single IP address -- a problem if you have multiple IMAP account on one Mac or have a number of email users behind a router (sharing the same external IP address).
This problem is exasperated if an office buys iPhones for their staff -- as this double the number of IMAP streams in an office all hitting the PLESK served IMAP service.
    Here's the fix:
    1) Login to the Plesk server as root.
    2) Change directory:
    cd /usr/lib/courier-imap/etc/
    3) Edit the imapd file (I use the emacs editor for this)
    emacs imapd
    4) Find the line that begins with set MAXPERIP=
    5) Change that line to read set MAXPERIP=40 or set MAXPERIP=60 (or higher if needed). Mine is at 80 currently.
    6) Stop and Start IMAP services:
    /sbin/service courier-imap stop
    /sbin/service courier-imap start
This fixed this issue for me. This fix works on PLESK 7.x.x.
NOTE: I'm in the middle of migrating to PLESK 8.2.1 -- and this fix can't be applied as written because the MAXPERIP parameter is set via a variable in 8.2.1: -maxperip=$MAXPERIP
If anyone knows where to set the $MAXPERIP variable onder PLESK 8.2.1 please let me know.
    Hope this helps you!

  • A hint if you use multiple mail clients to check one IMAP account

    FYI:
Mail.app in leopard turns on an advanced "push" mail feature automatically, called IDLE. This can cause strange problems when you use multiple IMAP clients to access you IMAP server.
For instance, I have a computer in my office and one in my lab. Normally Mail.app is running on them both constantly. After installing Leopard I would sit in my office delete and move messages from my INBOX, and when I went down to the lab I would find those emails still in my INBOX and also in the mailboxes I had moved them to on my office machine. In very short order I ended up with multiple copies of emails in many places and no ability to actually delete mail.
Originally I thought this was a bug with Leopard Mail.app, or a problem with compatibility between Mail.app and the UW IMAP server that I use. I wasted significant time searching on the web for possible solutions.
It turns out that the IDLE feature (that is automatically turned on for you in Leopard) was the cause of my problems. Turning this feature off (in the Advanced pane of the accounts setting) on EACH machine caused me email to return to its previous functional state.
If you only use one IMAP mail client the IDLE feature is nice, it pushes new mail to you as soon as the IMAP server receives the new mail.
(note -- IDLE is also automatically turned on in Thunderbird)

Assuming you're on a NAT'd network, DNS services can cause all sorts of weird errors with the mail server, including spontaneous name changes.
To verify local DNS services, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities and issue the following harmless diagnostic message:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
You'll need to enter an administrative password for the sudo, might see a one-time informational message around the usage of sudo, then you'll see some host and network configuration information, and finally an indication that either no changes are required, or that there are local DNS or the network has configuration issues.  Also, make sure you're not using .local or .arpa as the top-level domain within the DNS services.
Public DNS for the mail server can also cause communications issues, if that's not configured correctly — that won't cause the issue you're seeing in the logs here, but it will cause inbound mail to not reach your server, and outbound mail from your server to be dropped by the remote server.  To verify your public DNS, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities and issue the commands discussed in this thread or this thread and confirm that your internal and external MX record and your internal and external forward and reverse DNS settings are all correct.

  • Multiple gmail accounts in mail.app via IMAP - how to delete messages

multiple gmail accounts in mail.app via IMAP - how to delete messages so that they are not stored on gmail and not in All Mail therefore either.
i know that dragging messages to the GMail.Trash folder deletes it in Gmail, but doing that for multiple accounts is a hassle!
anybody else struggle with this, solved it?

i have still not figured out a solution to this. very painful - the fact that messages iwill not be using ever again and with large attachments, just sit there in all mails and slow down mail.app for me, fill up search results with stuff i don't want to see and fill up space on the HDD. the attachments as a result often are stored 3-4 times on the HDD!
some geek here must have solved it - come on!

  • Error using multiple email addresses in IMAP account

Thanks for reading - any help, advice or direction you can offer is very much appreciated!
Here is my situation: I use a single IMAP account with several email addresses. If it's important to know, they are all set up as aliases, so I can receive mail in one single account at all of the addresses and can send email from any of the addresses through the same SMTP account.
This behaves radically differently in Mail (iPhone and iPad) under iOS 6 than it did in iOS 5, and I need the behavior I had in iOS 5.
I am seeking help in figuring out how to make iOS 6 Mail behave the way iOS 5 Mail did.
Here's how I set it up in iOS 5: I used the primary email address (also my login for the IMAP/SMTP account) to set up the account on the iPad. This all worked. Once it was set up, I went back to settings and added the other email addresses as a comma-separated list in the "email" field after the primary one.
Then, when I went to compose a message (from mail, or from any other app), the default "from" address was the primary e-mail address (the first one listed), and it allowed me to tap on the "from" field and select a different one.
This changed in iOS 6, like this:
I set up the account the same way as above. With just the primary e-mail address it was fine. But when I added the other addresses and saved it, it seemed to choose one address at random from the list as primary (not the first one, not the last one, not the one first or last alphabetically, just one in particular - and the same one each time I tried this). Then when I compose mail, it defaults to that alternate email as the "from".
    So:
I need to have it default to the primary email address as the "from," I need to have all the alternate emails available to me to choose from, and I need to have it all set up as one account. I have tried to set up a second account on the iPad with all the alternate email addresses, but since the IMAP and SMTP logins are the same, the iPad won't let me.
Any ideas, suggestions, direction, solutions, etc. are very much appreciated!
    Details: iPad 2nd gen. WiFi+3G, iOS 6

I think this is a bug, and I've reported it as such. More reports usually equals faster service: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
For now, I've come up with the following work-around:
    1. Leave your multi-account as-is set up on your iPhone, but remove your preferred default e-mail address from the list
    2. Set up a new e-mail account with IMAP access (i.e. Gmail or whatever)
    3. Create a new IMAP e-mail account on your iPhone/iPad with the details of this new account for the IMAP (receive) settings, but with your original e-mail account's SMTP (send) settings. Also, set the "Email" field in the account setup to be your preferred default e-mail address.
    4. Set this new mail account as the default in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Now, when you create a new message, you should see that your default "from" address is correct - since it is the only choice for the new mail account you set up in iOS. As long as the SMTP settings are correct, it doesn't matter that your IMAP settings don't match.
You should still be able to select any other "from" address as well, which will use your original multi-account settings, which are also correct.
All of your received mail will come in through your original multi-account inbox, and your new account's inbox will likely stay empty.
It seems like I'm forgetting a step here, but this should give you the right idea for a workaround if it isn't exactly right. Feel free to add corrections if you find them.

  • How do I sync multiple email accounts on ipad

So I'm now, dubiously, the lucky owner of iPad mini with up to date software and iMac with latest software.
It now seems apple have decided they don't want me to use more than one email account and so have stopped me being able to sync them ? Even for apple this is breathtaking in its arrogance and fascistic nature...
    Anyone any ideas?

By synchronize, I suspect you mean that reading or deleting a message on one device will result it its being read or deleted on the other device. If so, this is only possible for IMAP accounts or exchange accounts. This is not an iPad limitation but a limitation in the email system protocols. iCloud mail is an IMAP system; so, iCloud email will synchronize automatically. There could be a slight delay in this, but it works.
Many email systems (Comcast may be one of the more common) are POP accounts. Those won't sychronize at all regardless of device used.
If by synchronize you mean that you can have the account on multiple devices and that's all; no problem regardless of the system. But, remember that you will download all your POP messages even if you have read and deleted them on another device. That can be a pain.

  • Can Multiple email accounts on Galaxy S4 sync with iCloud & non-iCloud email?

Hello… has anyone successfully set up multiple email accounts (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T/etc.) on their Samsung Galaxy S4 Jelly Bean 4.2? I searched the forums and it has been said that configuration settings depend on the combination of wireless service provider + device model + email providers + Android version.
My S4 is from AT&T and if this scenario can't work, I have to cancel my contract in a few days (although that would be the last resort). From checking the forums, not everyone has been able to get the S4 to work with iCloud. In my case, I hope to sync up with iCloud and non-iCloud email which might be trickier.
Here is one thread that helps with settings, but doesn't seem to address multiple or non-iCloud accounts: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22435596#22435596
    Some background info…
Although Gmail just works on Android devices, I plan to primarily use Apple/Yahoo/AT&T email (at least initially).
I don’t yet have Apple mail/iCloud, but plan to. I am partially switched to the Mac (Mtn Lion), but haven’t completed the jump from Windows.
I don’t have an iPhone (so hopefully that makes the setup less complicated.)
I mostly care about email on the S4 (I’m not concerned about syncing up contacts, calendar, music, etc.).
Apologies for the long post, but hopefully I’ve included the necessary background info for the questions below:
Is it possible to setup multiple (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T) emails on the Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T so that they sync nicely?
From the S4, if I reply to an email, will the Sender in the email reply be the same account which received the email? Or, (as I’ve read in the excerpt below) will the Sender for all email replies from the S4 be set from a fixed/primary account?
Although the first two questions above are the most urgent for now, I'd appreciate pointers if you see something that should be changed in the configuration settings below.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks to everyone for the various bits that helped lead me in the right direction. For those who need lots of detail, I hope the below helps. Please don't ask me about any other specific Android phones as I'm not expert but thought someone out there could benefit from my experience.
    INCOMING SERVER SETTINGS
User Name: username (do not enter @me,com or @mac.com)
    Password: (enter your password)
    IMAP server: imap.mail.me.com
    Security type: SSL
    Port: 993
IMAP path prefix: p##- (you can find this by checking your account settings on your Mac. Mine was p03- so that's what I entered here)
    Press NEXT
    OUTGOING SERVER SETTINGS
    SMTP server: smtp.mail.me.com
    Security type: TLS
    Port: 587
check the box next to "Require sign-in" if it's not already checked
User name: username  (do not enter @me.com or @mac.com)
    Password (enter your password)
    Press NEXT
Your phone will check the server settings and you should be able to see your email now.
And another poster provided these additional tips…
Definitely select SSL/TLS and accept all certificates
Now here's the zinger: Authentication should be LOGIN
After figuring this out, I finally (after many hours of searching and testing) got to my outgoing server settings, which are: smtp.me.com
    NONE for security type
    Tic "Require Sign-in"
    Authentication is PLAIN
And another poster's question about the Sender's email address for multiple accounts…
Managed to get this all set up however, Android only seems to allow you to send from your primary address and only reply from your primary address even if a mail was sent to one of the other addresses.
Any ideas how to get around this as I have three addresses beneath my primary which I need to both send from and reply from.

There are a few posts with general info relating to setting up an iCloud email account on Android here if you search though.

how can i create multiple icloud accounts for my family members

Thanks...  I appreciate the reply.  Since I wrote the previous email, I actually went and changed my apple id (the main id) and the documentation I looked at said iCloud will set mail up automatically(?)...  I had it working before.
Also, I tried to manually set up the ID via the Mail Accounts screen(s) and I can't figure out what my server information is...  Pop or Imap?  What's the outgoing server and the incoming server?
I typically have never had problems setting up mail accounts (in apple mail) with no problem.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  • Multiple iCloud accounts on same device

With multiple MobileMe accounts (on the same device), only the 'primary' account would 'push' email. The other accounts would need to manually fetch the email.
Has this changed with iCloud? If you set up multiple iCloud accounts, will they all have email 'pushed'?
What about Contacts and Calendars? Will changes get 'pushed' to all accounts or just the primary account?
If Contacts and Calendar changes are not pushed, how can a device be updated with the latest info? With email, there is usually a 'Get mail' button or at least you can set a schedule so messages will get fetched, but there's no such facility for Contacts and Calendars. So if there's no push, how can they keep in sync?
I'm hoping that even if email push only works for the primary account, it WILL work for Contacts and Calendars, even on the other 'secondary' iCloud accounts. Can anyone confirm this either way?

Updating this myself as I have some more information.
The secondary iCloud accounts seem to get mail pushed to them, even on iOS devices which suggests that iOS 5 now does indeed support IMAP IDLE as I cannot see how this would occur otherwise.
However, an odd thing has occured on the Mac. A day after setting up the 3 iCLoud accounts, during which time it has all worked perfectly well, this morning OSX has modified all the accounts, all by itself. It has self-created 3 MobileMe accounts, named the same as the iCloud accounts were and those have now all been renamed 'iCloud'. The iCloud accounts now have Mail turned OFF and the new MobileMe accounts have that turned ON. IOW, the new MobileMe accounts have taken over the email duties.
There's 2 oddities about this, well more than 2 really.
Why create these new 'email only' accounts as type MobileMe which will soon be entirely defunct?
Why would it do this at all? Why not just leave the 3 x iCloud accounts, as they were?
How has it done this all by itself? Shouldn't such account creation be a manual process by the user?
It doesn't seem to have affected the functionality, but I am at a complete loss as to what is going on here. So if anyone can shed some light on it I'd be grateful.

  • Multiple Email Accounts Don't Seem Possible. Yet Mail Help Says It is!

    Hi,
If you go to the Mail help menu and type in "multiple", the result shows that you can enter multiple email address into an account during setup, separated by commas. Great if you have several emails under the same domain ([email protected], [email protected], etc.)
The problem is this - the User Name is the full email address, so although I can enter my four email addresses under one domain, I cannot enter them as four separate user names, only one will work.
Am I missing something here? It's got me confused!
    Thanks for any replies.
    Hugh

Using an IMAP e-mail where you have several email addresses say ,...... @mac.com, ,[email protected] and [email protected] all pointing at the same server inbox yes you can use the comma separation method.
Emails sent to any of those addresses arrive on your computer altogether as YOU have just ONE user name !
If however you have differing POP and/or IMAP accounts each with differing user names POP inboxes and even SMTP sending systems you will have to set up each email account one by one.
Mail will allow you to have them combined into a single inbox on your computer.
You will also notice a triangle appears to the left of the inbox ,click on this and you will be presented with individual account inboxes within the main inbox
