  • HT1689 Ipad "apps" will not update (was 14 items, now 9).  Ipad used extensively in Europe & UK for a month.  Condition has existed since our return to Canada.  Followed steps as listed in Support to no avail?

Help with multiple Ipad app updates.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like two (or more) different Apple ID's were used when Apps were purchased and originally downloaded and installed.
Another possibility might be that maybe some Apps were downloaded in other countries during your travels, and might not be authorized by the developer or by Apple for use in locations other than the country of origin.
To change the active Apple ID, navigate to Settings, Store, and touch the active Apple ID shown. Then Sign Out, and sign in with the other Apple ID(s). Now go to Apps, and Check for Updates. Once updates are installed, you can again sign out, and sign back in with the other Apple ID used most often.
My wife and I share her iPad. Initially I downloaded the apps I wanted to use with my Apple ID, and 'her' apps using her Apple ID. That system works pretty well, except for updates. To update everything installed, I had to log in with one Apple ID, download updates, and then log in with the other Apple ID to finish.
It wasn't a problem when there were only 10 or 15 apps, for each of us, updated infrequently. When it reached more than 100 apps for each of us, it became inconvenient to do the dual updates.
When I upgraded her iPad to iOS 5.1.1, I deleted most of 'my' apps (most were free anyway), and reinstalled only 'her' apps. Then I re-downloaded most of my free apps from the App store, this time using her Apple ID, to make future app updates easier.

  • Viewing multiple iPad screens

I know there is an App that will allow me to view multiple iPad screens on my MacBook. Can anyone help me with that?

That's news to me.  There isn't an app that I know of that allows general viewing of iPad screens.
There are some apps like Teamviewer that will share what the app is doing.  Understand, it will only share its own screen not other apps screen.

  • HT4623 After requesting updates for several apps on my ipad 2, yesterday, the screen image of the app continues to say "waiting." Each app is stuck in waiting mode. help

Yesterday, I was updating several apps in the app updates section in the app store icon. I requested update for Facebook and two other apps. Now those apps are stuck or frozen. Under the icon on the screen it says, "waiting." On the store app page screen, it says, "instaling." I cannot get into either of those apps. What do I need to do to unfreeze my facebook and the other app? Thanks, gracefromok

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • How can I install one app on multiple iPads at the same time?

We have a volume purchasing account, but when purchasing an app we get multiple serial numbers that all seem to need to be entered individually. The iPhone config Utility will not sync multiple iPads at the same time. Am I missing something? This cannot be the method for mass deployment, it seem too complicated.

You can do a  backup of you iPad then restore the backup to many devices.

Use VPP.  Select an MDM.  Read the google doc below.

  • Is there a way to display multiple iPad screens on the same television screen simultaneously?

Is there a way to display multiple iPad screens on the same television set concurrently?  The idea is to let multiple individuals do something on their iPads in a timed window and then display the results of each iPad users answer concurrently on te same television.

Devices that display two, four, or even eight video signals on a single monitor are available in the video security market. Maybe you could find something there that would do what you want. A quick search on "security tv screen multiplexor" (without the quotes) yielded millions of pages; several on the first page looked promising if you don't mind composite video.

the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support  (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).

    Yes that's completely feasable.
Actually there is another way to install apps ad-hock that i was not aware of (this does not require the devices to be attatched to the Mac with the SDK and project, it can use any computer or distribute via your LAN:
    iOS Developer Programme:Ad Hoc Distribution
With Ad Hoc distribution you can share your application with up to 100 other iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch users. Through email or by posting it to a website or server, users can download and install your app.

  • Multiple iPads, need to be able to Push apps from home office

We have sent iPads out to all of our external sales reps and regional sales directors (about 17 total).  Each one has a different Apple ID because we forward our exchange e-mail to their Apple ID's,and we do not give out the password to their Apple ID's so they can't download whatever they want onto the iPad.  Some iPads were not sent out with the necessary apps to do business, and we would like to be able to push Apps from one computer to every iPad (this may become necessary in the future for all of them if we want to have them have new apps and not have 17 different iPads mailed back to the home office).  I saw the help page of sharing multiple iPads with one computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495), but does this also work with Apps and not just music?
At the home office all computers have XP and we have no Macs. Are we even able to push if we have XP?
Thanks for any help, even if this isn't possible.

Unfortunately alot of the apps we need are free, so this could work if we get Paid apps but the main app right now doesn't seem like it would work with this (Salesforce for iPad). Thanks though!
I'm trying to find the right people here to find out what security measures we have in place to prevent the logging out part, but another thing I thought of could be to create another apple id for the iPads just for the store. I know my personal phone has two apple id's because my original one (connected to the store) is so old that it can't be used for Find My Friends, but I don't know if we could have another apple id on the ipads (the one for the e-mail would be different for each one, the one for the store would be one I or someone else at the home office manages just for iPad apps). Hope that made sense.
It does turn out that we have one Mac and one computer with Windows 7 (Mac is a development computer that doesn't have much memory left and Windows 7 computer doesn't have a monitor yet plus it is also for testing), so I'm going to ask my boss if I can get a dedicated Mac for this or a new operating system. I also need to ask for an iPad so I can see what the users see, but thats another story.

  • One non-VPP app on multiple iPads -- what's the current best practice?

So I've been playing around with Apple Configurator and think it has the potential to be useful in deploying multiple iPads (in this case, 18) to a client.  I've been able to configure one iPad, take a backup of it, and then easily deploy that backup to 2 iPads.  I've also been able to automatically install free apps... to a point.
In this particular test I set up an old version of Pandora I had on my Mac to be installed on my test iPads.  I intentionally chose an old version of the app to see what would happen when it needed an update, assuming that it would ask for the personal iTunes account I originally used to download it.  And sure enough, my assumption was vindicated -- after this iPad was prepared by Apple Configurator, I went to the App Store, attempted to update Pandora, and was prompted to enter my personal iTunes account password.
I figure that the next step would be to create an iTunes account specifically for downloading apps intended for deployment to clients, and I'm guessing I should just create individual iTunes accounts for each client, download the required apps, and configure each device to use that iTunes account.  But is this viable?  Is there some limit to how many devices you can associate with one iTunes account?  Is this really the best they could do?

This is a challenge.  On our enterprise owned non-shared devices we ask the user, if they need to install apps that are non VPP, to use a personal iTunes account.  Though the devices are owned by the enterprise, and have enterprise security policies on them, we allow the users to put personal music photo's etc on them, and back them up on home, not work computers, with iTunes.  I think most users of non shared devices feel they are "personal" devices and treat them as such.  We do put an IPCU profile on them, and do require encryption through Exchange Server policies.  Shared devices, where 1 device might be used by a number of employees in one day (say in an Emergency Department for registrars), we associate with a enterprise created iTunes account that has the same name as the Exchange account used to attach the Exchange security policy to the device.  We use restrictions on these devices to block app purchases, safari etc.  In the case of the shared device, free apps would be installed by IT using the enterprise created iTunes account.  We are in the process of getting an MDM which we expect to simplify all of this.  My opinion ( for what it's worth) is that Apple is  becoming much more enterprise aware and is moving toward making the scenarios described easier to deal with.  iOS devices started as consumer centric devices but are being adopted in large numbers now by business, BYOD or otherwise.
