Multiple iPad sync on one computer fail

I am confused about how to maintain two iPads on one computer. Try it and I get dialog boxes threatening to erase all the content on one iPad. Do I creat multiple libraries? That seems risky in light of the "threat" message in the dialog boxes. Is there a simpler way. Why can't I just plug iPad #1 and iPad #2 into a computer and have iTunes recognize that each one should have a separate library? This seems really silly.

I have only been an Apple person for about a year and a half, so I call on the Apple gods for help.
My dad and stepmom each have an iPad (1st and 3rd generation), but share a laptop (Dell Latitude). They want certain apps on their iPads, but don't want them to sync to each others.
I thought the best idea was to set up two iTune accounts (using their separate email addresses). I thought I could log in iTunes with one account, set up one iPad, then sign out, sign in the other, and repeat the process.
My dad just got the 3rd generation one, so I set it up from brand new. When I plug it in to sync, even under his iTunes account, it syncs all apps I want, so I was happy. When I try to run updates for it wirelessly, it asks for the password associated with my step mom's address and account ?!?
What can I do to set up (2) iPads on same computer and keep apps from appearing on each iPad when they want to have their own apps?

Yes, multiple iPhones can sync with a single computer. I do not know the limit, probably harddrive space of the computer. Just open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer, select iPhone in left column of iTunes, click Sync button of iTunes. When done, connect other iPhone and repeat steps. You can keep the iPhones information different and always separate or you can restore them from the same back-up and keep them similar.

Uncheck the option to automatically sync new apps to the device.
Other than that, syncing is by device.
Connect one device, tell iTunes what to sync, then sync.
Connect second device, repeat.
Connect third device, repeat.

Yes, just plug it in to the computer, when iTunes is open in the second user account and you will be asked if you want to change the the sync settings on your mobile device.

My wife desperaely needed to back up her iPhone (been over teo years). I didn't want to do this given that she woulde lose two years worth of data, but we decided to plow ahead. I hit the update button and was advised that there was an earlier backup from last fall. I said I wated to use that back up. Unfortunately it was a backup for my daughter's iphone 5c and now my wife's phone is simply a clone of the 5C. What can I do to pul at least some of her account information back out and show her iPhone again on the devices list?

Each person in your home can have their own Apple ID provided it is tied the their own separate email address.
iTunes permits up to five authorized computers connected to a single Apple ID: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
For this all to work well, however, each user in your household should have a separate user account on the computer they commonly use.

The computer that I had my iphone apps synced to has died and I don't know how to get access to my apps on the new computer. I'm using a Windows pc. I understand that I can only have my apps synced to one computer at a time, but the former pc is dead.

My HP Touchsmart died the other day. My husband works on computers as a hobby and was able to get me up and running on a Dell laptop in no time. I have tried deauthorizing all the computers associated with my account, that did not work. I had this problem once before and finally ( after much blood sweat and tears ) was able to deauthorize the old computer, but it was in working order. Two of the computers that are listed under the iTunes Wi-Fi Sync setting are no longer in use, the HP had my apps synced to it and the other had everything else except my photos, which are on a third computer that is still in use. Please forgive for information overload but am trying to give all the info that I think could be relevant. Your help would be appreciated so much!

Or better yet... try a search, I'm certain you'll find a solution to whatever issue you're experiencing.

The title of my initial post is a bit misleading. I already took a chance deleting one of the iPhones, hoping if I deleted the wrong one, I can still reauthorize it (all with the same Apple ID acct, so not subject to 90-day waiting period, right?) The iTunes database just updated itself, and it says I have 4 "devices" "in the Cloud", but 5 "computers" associated w my account. How can I find out what computers are associated? Isn't there a list I can see? I dont have a clue what computers they might be. If I use the "Deauthorize All" option, is it a pain to add them all back in. I assume I would have to log in from each computer to reauthorize each one. Would I have to be running the newest OS or version of iTunes to reauthorize? I think I have a PowerBook G4 Titanium with an older OS and iTunes. I'd like to keep that authorized, if possible.

If you see Devices in the big list on the left-hand side of iTunes, it should show the name of your iPhone right below it. You can right-click (or hold ctrl and left click) on the name of the iPhone there, and choose "transfer purchases from iPhone".
If you're on iTunes 11, you won't see the big list of the left until you go to the View menu at the very top (where you see iTunes/File/Edit/View/etc) and choose Show Sidebar. Then do the same thing: right-click or ctrl and left-click on the iPhone's name below Devices and "transfer purchases from iPhone".
It'll ask you to authorize the computer for your Apple ID if you haven't yet; to do that, you just type your Apple ID and password in when it asks. If it says you are not authorized but doesn't automatically give you an option to do so, then you can go to the Store menu at the very top and choose "authorize this computer".

Yes, so what's confusing... Did you not restore the backup of your data, contacts, pics, apps, music, etc. to the new hard drive after you replaced it or reformatted it or whatever you did? If so, then you can just sync your data back.
If not, please try searching the forum. This has been addressed hundreds of times here.

It is true that all iPhones can only sync to one computer. Syncing to more than one computer can be accomodated somewhat, as in one for calendar and contacts and one for music, but it can cause problems.

-Transfer iTunes purchases to the compuer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discusssed here:
Copy music
- Connect the Ipd to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not contain synced media like apps and music.
