Multiple iPhone questions, no obvious answer

1. I have two versions of the same song available (and paid for) as ring tones. They are present on iTunes on the ringtone category but only one will download to the phone. The phone refuses the second version of the same song. I deleted the shorter version from my ringtone library, hoping that this would force the new ringtone to download. There isn't any way to delete a ringtone from the phone untethered from iTunes. I really want the longer version. Even if I check the specific ringtone from my iTunes library, it does not sync to the phone. I can't get rid of the shorter version no matter what I do. Any suggestions (these are iTune purchases, not some third party conversion).
2. I have "auto" email check turned OFF. Nevertheless, whenever my phone is logged onto a wi-fi network, it still checks for the email and dings at me incessantly. If I want to check email, I have it set for manual checking but it is still doing it automatically.
3. I have the latest (1.1.4) firmware on an otherwise virgin iPhone.
4. Is there any sequence of button pushes equivalent to a "reset" in the iPods. I don't want to restore the phone; I want to reset it.
Thanks for your help here.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem I was after (the ringtone issue), but now I know how to do a soft reset.
I managed to solve the constant email being pushed to the phone. Turns out that the problem originated from my yahoo mail account. I didn't realize that an advanced preference available for yahoo is "auto push". In order to stop the email from coming to your phone, check to see if "auto push" is enabled. If so, note that it overrides the "manual" setting for email checking. That problem is fixed.
The only remaining issue is how to get the iphone to recognize two different ringtones from different parts of the same song. That problem continues to bug and vex me. Help!
An observation. To those of you waiting (impatiently) for a 3G iPhone. Don't expect miracles. I have a 3G verizon (EVDO) phone. The network speed for things like YouTube videos, for surfing the net, etc are simply not significantly different. Me. The only thing I'm waiting for is software 2.0 and the customized applications that will be available for the current phone.
Finally, you know a new iPhone is coming when one of the major case suppliers (Speck) is discounting its entire inventory of Gen 1 iPhone cases (50%). This can't be a coincidence and it does suggest that the new iPhones will layout buttons, or speakers, or some combination thereof differently, and will be slightly different sized. Not a novel revelation.

  • Using multiple iPhones questions

    Hello all,
I have had my iPhone 4 for over a year and am very happy with it. My father is thinking of getting one also, however I need some clarification on a number of issues.
    1. Is it possible for two iPhones to be backed up to iCloud without sharing contacts/pictures etc.?
    2. Will the 'find my friends' app work between two iPhones with the same apple ID? I do want to use the same ID as I have all music/apps stored and ready to sync between the new device.
    3. Will there be the same gamecenter account on both devices?
What would you suggest?, Could I make a different apple ID account for the new iPhone but still sync any purchases from my main apple ID?7
These multiple accounts seem very confusing. I will try and sum up what I would like to be able to do:
    - Separate contacts/photos backups to iCloud
    - Different gamecenter/findmyfriends accounts (between the two iPhones)
    - Access to purchases from my main apple ID (for both iPhones)
    Thanks in advance,
        -Ozzy

we have 2 iphones, and one apple id, and when we upgraded to ios5, and backed up to the cloud - all of our contacts merged together...i am here on the discussion boards to try to figure out how to handle this as well

  • Silly question with obvious answer.

I have an older Macbook pro with firewire 400 so for migration assistant to my new i5 iMac should I use a firewire 400/800 cable. I know it's a dumb question but just want to make sure before purchasing cable.

    Hi Ed-Eye BRC
You will need a 6 to 9 pin FireWire cable or if you already have a FireWire 400 cable then a Sonnet 6 to 9 pin Adapter will do.

  • Multiple Iphones question...

We just bought my son an Iphone to use and he wants music on his phone but I do not want to set up an account for him as he is still young? Can I plug his Iphone into my Itunes account or will it affect it somehow? He likes the same sort of music I do so it wouldn't be a matter of different music, just wanted to make sure it wouldn't affect my Itunes account

It will not effect your account.
Open itunes, connect iphone, select what you want, sync.

  • Use multiple iPhones with 1 instance of iTunes?

    Hi Guys,
Be gentle with me as this is my first post and I'm not sure if this is correct discussion board, anyhow...
I have been tasked by my bosses to do some research on the possibility of using iPhones as a business communication, email and document device to be used by the senior management of my firm.
Basically, what we need is to be able to "sync" calenders, receive email, share documentation and contacts all using one instance of iTunes. This is to enable us to keep their data uptodate and identical etc.
The users also have the option of using iTunes at home to do non business work i.e. upload music and videos.
I am aware of the apple configuration tool to create multiple but identical "profiles" that can be applied to each and every phone.
    My questions are:
    1. Can we use one iTunes account (billed to the company using one credit card?) that can used by several staff at home? Or do we need to create accounts for every user?
    2. Is there any applications that can help us "sync" all phones either connected to our business version of iTunes or even "over the air"? Bearing in mind that if the user connects to iTunes at home it doesn't wipe important data!
    3. Can anyone recommend applications that we can preload onto the phones that will assist the user becoming familiar with the functionality of the iPhone? This would help us as we wouldn't have to show each and every user how the iPhone works!
    4. Lastly any advice on applications that would give us the ability to control and maintain all these instances of iPhones easily and without giving us a major headache?
    Thank you for any advice.
    MC

You should check into MobileMe. It's an Apple service that allows you to sync mail, contacts, and calendars over the air to your iPhone.
My wife and I both have iPhones and use MobileMe to keep them identical in terms of contacts and calendars.
You could use one iTunes account with multiple iPhones, however, you're not going to get over the air syncing.

  • Setting Up Multiple iPhones On One iTunes Account

Our business supplies iPhones to our technicians out in the field and I've set each phone up under the same iTunes account.
Can someone please help me out on the below things that I need to be able to manage?
I need to be able to back up each iPhone to the work iTunes account on a regular basis, so that I can restore the data if needed. (Windows pc)Is this just a matter of plugging the phones in and setting up as a new iPhone and giving each one a individual name (tech 1, tech 2 etc)? I know it will mean that they'll loose all data and I'll have to set each one up again.
I would like it if each of the phones can share any apps purchased (music is not used but some productivity apps have and will be purchased)
I need to ensure that none of the phones share any user sensitive data (messages etc)
I had a massive issue with all the phones recently - They were duplicating iMessages accross all the technicians phones.
I've rectified this by disabling iMessages, but is there some way i can allow them to have iMessage without all the phones (which are on the same work iTunes account) duplicating messages or any other user sensitive data?
    Thanks in advance!

Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers. I have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

  • Multiple iphones on one Gmail account?

    Hey all,
    So... The question is thus:
Can you use one gmail address on multiple iphones?

Sure. You can access the same email account with an email client on different computers and with the iPhone's Mail app on different iPhones.

  • Multiple iPhones and one iTunes Library

I have a question about multiple iPhones and one iTunes Library.
    Currently I have 3 PC's, 2 iPods and 2 iPhones.
My PC had the iTunes library on it and everyone was just listening to mine via the iTunes sharing.
Well I bought a Buffalo LinkStation and told itunes to move my library to M:\My Music\..... and then did a Consolidate Library which in turn moved all the music from my C: drive to the M: drive.
My wife's computer has it's own Library with no music (only app store apps, and ringtones).
Now my question is what happens if I tell my wifes computer that M:\My Music\....... is her new location of the library and restart itunes. I am pretty sure this will work fine. But what happens if she syncs her iPhone now? Will all my apps now be on her phone and she will lose hers? She does have her own itunes store account with her own apps. Is there a way to have it so only her apps are on her phone and my apps are on my phone? Can she choose different playlists to be synced than what I have?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Brad

Since the three of you are using separate iTunes accounts, then you each need to run your own itunes, which should be logged into the itunes store using each individual account.  For that, on a laptop, you each need to have your own computer accounts.

  • HT2693 How to download pictures from multiple iPhones with the same Apple ID?

I have multiple iPhones (e.g. iPhone 4S, iPhone 5) registered under the same Apple ID however i only manage to download the pictures in my iPhone 5 via iCloud.
How do I retrieve the remaining photos that was uploaded to iCloud previously from my older iPhones with the same Apple ID?
    Pls help!!!

    Hi edristiew,
Are the photos that you are referring to still in Photo Stream? Remember, Photo Stream has limits which are outlined in this article:
    iCloud: Photo Stream limits

If the photos are still stored in Photo Stream, this resource may answer your questions about how to extract them (Mac or PC):
    iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ

If the photos are no longer in Photo Stream, but are in your camera roll, you can import them to your computer:

  • ITunes with multiple iPhones

Does anyone know if it's possible to have multiple iPhones set up on a single iTunes account? If so, how do you do this? I already have an iTunes account but will have a second iPhone in the household... want to be able to share/sync music library, apps, purchased music, movies, etc. Any ideas?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Claudia

My question is a  bit different. I have not yet been able to wean my wife off her dying Dell. While she has iTunes on it sync fails so she has not backed up her 3GS phone in ages. She has different music, pictures, and apps than I do, and we do not want to share these. So I want to sync her phone (and iPad as well) to my Macbook Pro, but keeping things separate. The responses and Apple material regarding syncing multiple phones to a single Mac talk about shared music and media libraries and do not seem to talk about apps.
I'm afraid if I try to sync her devices to my iTunes it will wipe out her apps and media. Can anyone confirm or refute this?
    Thanks

  • Investigating iPhone - Questions

    Greetings --
My wife and I are considering updating to a smarter phone from our Palm Centros (which we use a lot) to the iPhone. We had considered the PRE but but are not comfortable with the "cloud computing" aspect.
    Anyway, a couple of questions:
Multiple users (one computer), Windows/Outlook and the iPhone. How well does this work?
When converting, we both use the Memos in the Palm platform and Outlook does not appear to have a "Memo" option. Is there some way to convert our memos over to the iPhone?
I am sure there are other questions that I haven't though of. These are the two that immediately come to mind, however.
    Thanks in advance ...

Yes, iTunes will handle it. On one user account on my Mac, I have 2 iPhones, an iPod Touch, and a whole bunch of iPods syncing. One nice thing, if you both use the same iTunes Store account - apps need only be purchased once and can be used on multiple iPhones/iPod Touches (and like music, iTunes will maintain separate app lists for each device).
Notes is an iPhone app, one of the default Apple apps on the iPhone. There's also a Notes category in Outlook, and that syncs with the Notes app on the iPhone. Not sure how you'd get the memos from Palm into Outlook, though. There are also 3rd party apps in the App Store that also have a desktop client, and sync over Wi-Fi. One of the well-reviewed ones is Evernote (iTunes Store link).

  • Can Siri bring back more previouly asked questions and the answers?

Can SIRI recall previously asked questions and the answers provided?  Or can you only see and read the last request to SIRI?

No. If you swiped down from the initial Siri input screen, and only saw the one conversation, then that is all there is to see. Again, not sure how long it stays there for. I just checked my iPhone again, and I can still see the info from the last conversation, which included several questions and answers. Looks like it saves all of the Q&A from the previous conversation.
So, if you have made multiple requests and gotten multiple results, you can see all of those. But it appears to need to be all in one conversation with Siri.
    Cheers,

  • How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account.  To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

  • Multiple iphones using one itunes account

I'm fairly new to the itunes world and was wondering about the ability to sync multiple iphones to a single itunes account. I have the iphone 4s and have it synced with my itunes account...my boyfriend recently left the dark ages and is now using my old iphone 3gs, unfortunately he doesn't have a computer or access to the internet way out in tim-buck-two. We were curious as to whether or not he could use my computer with itunes already downloaded on here...of course he would have his own apple ID. Will he be able to have access to all my playlists and music so he can use my music as well? I sure would appreciate any help anyone can give me!

This is great news as I've been struggling with this issue for some time. Mainly because my wife is a little old school and likes to put music on CD's and this solves that problem. Thanks again!!
