Can you connect more than one ipod to itunes and can one ipod sync with two computers? I am wanting to get an ipod for friend who is ill and want to put some music on it for him so would like to connect to my itunes to put the music on but then can he connect to his laptop as well and add music on ipod

i am trying to manage three different ipods through the one Itunes, all with very different tastes, not sure if I am doing it the best or easiest way so does anybody have a simple solution on what you're supposed to do, to keep it all simple!

If you have created a new Windows user account you need to log out and then log back in with your original user name. By default each Windows profile will have an independent iTunes library.
If instead you managed to create a new library within the same profile. click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key, keep holding until asked to create or choose a library. Click Choose and navigte back to your original which should be at <User's Music>\iTunes.

in which case Selected Playlists is probably the best approach. Simply create a playlist for each device, Alice's iPod, Bob's iPhone etc. and sync the device with the appropriate list.

we have 2 iphone 4's synced to the same itunes account for apps and music since the day we bought them, but each has a different icloud acct. they have both been updated on the same itunes account with every update that has come out since we bought them in december of 2010. nothing on either phone has ever been lost or duplicated. having said all that, maybe i'm missing something here, but we have had no problems. we do have itunes setup to sync manually. i do believe i'm a piker compared to lawrence finch, but i'm just telling you what happens in my house. maybe check with apple? is there a store near you?

I recently purchased two ipods for different family members. Can both be used on the same computer. I seem to remember seeing a blurb in the user agreement for itunes that said the program was only for one ipod. Can anyone elaborate?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
a) Sharing a single iTunes library
b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod

Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
*Separate User Accounts*
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

My wife and I both have our own iPod Nano's. Of course, we don't always share the same taste in music. I know we can make our own playlists, but is there a way to customize iTunes so that it only puts her songs on her iPod and only puts my songs on my iPod.
Also, is any solution someone posts good for a Mac or a PC - my wife's coworker who has a PC has asked the same question since she has multiple iPods at her home.

For reference for future users that are reading this thread for help. I have tested this with our different iPods.

Method 2 will work in that you can create a playlist or playlists [in iTunes] and can select which playlists go to and show up on different iPods. However, please note when using Method 2 that you won't save any iPod space on any iPod as all the music from iTunes will still be placed on all the iPods. It is convenient in that you can have only your playlists show up on your iPod [or show up on different iPods as Playlists that go to each iPod can be selected for each iPod (when) inserted].
This is complicated to explain, but when you select Sync Music to an iPod (which you'll want to do for all iPods since it's all about getting music to the iPod) you'll get to select which Playlists show up on individual iPods [that is currently connected to the computer] but in a nutshell all the music will be on all the iPods (the music is just hidden away from sight but still uses up the same amount of memory on each iPod).
This makes my head hurt thinking about it. But you should avoid method 2 if you need to save space on a specific iPod. If you have plenty of space on all your iPods and only want to see different playlists on each of them, then method 2 is fine. You don't set iTunes to manual, you set the iPod. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:

Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

However if the iPods are also being used with multiple computers then you'll be using the manual method regardless and not any form of auto-sync. I have had an iTunes account on my laptop for years, and have it currently hooked in withan iTouch.
My fiance just recently bought a new iPod, and I am wondering if I can hook her new iPod to my laptop w/ the iTunes account, and not ruin anything?
Also, she is about to buy a new laptop, so if she can put music on her new iPod from my iTunes account, when she puts her new iPod on the new laptop, will it wipe it off?

I have 3 iPods - a mini, a nano, and a regular kind. How can I synch them all to the same computer containing iTunes? I also want to download different contecnt on each, as I have far more content than the amount of space on the nano...and of course, I use them for different purposes.

You could also create multiple user accounts. iTunes libraries are separated by uer account, so a new account will have an empty library.
To set up another User Account in Windows, open Control Panel, and select User Accounts. Create a new account (see the sidebar for help) and then log into that account. (You can use fast user swiching to leave yourself loged in and switch between the two accounts. Just go to Start -> Log Off -> Switch User) Once you are logged into the new account, open iTunes and you will see an empty library ready for you to fill with music. Hope this helps!

Go to your computer's System Tray and try ejecting. If you can't eject, there is an application that is trying to access your iPod.
Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx and download ProcessExplorer.
Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555665 and follow the instructions under Resolution.
Note that this is a good, general process any time you can't access any file.
In my case an update to RealPlayer installed a program called RecordingManager that was accessing my iPod.

Registering multiple ipods using the same apple id

I just purchased a new nano for my wife. I was about to register her ipod using my apple id and itunes account so we could just use the same account to order music. Am I able to do this? I did not continue just incase registering her nano would "de-register" me video ipod.
